there is a troubling trend ive noticed within activist spaces - that many people define an identity as the pain that comes from the oppression of it. you hear this in phrases like 'to be a woman is to suffer' or in discussion of trans dysphoria as if it is a universally similar and easily identifiable experience.

and there's a very understandable reason this happens - the formation of these sects of activism was to both offer solidarity and comfort for the pain of oppression, and to challenge the systems which inflict it.

the trouble with defining identity through pain is that it does not seek to form or understand a world in which that pain does not exist. that is to say - we SHOULD speak of the ways women suffer under the patriarchy, but someone's womanhood cannot be denied if she does not suffer due to the circumstances of her life or whether we personally as observers can see her suffering.

in the same sense, i think we need to remember as part of our activism, we are seeking a world together where the pains of our oppression do not exist for those that come after us. i want to imagine a world in which trans people do not have to experience the same pains of dysphoria that i did, where they can simply be themselves and have access to the life they feel most comfortable living. i do not want to draw the line in the sand for those that come after me to be 'you have to hurt as much as i did for me to take you seriously'.

we can find solidarity as comfort for our pain, and we can come together to make a world with less of it too.

do you respect trans people who look like their agab, whether they want to or not?

do you respect transfems with body/facial hair? transfems who don't wear makeup or dresses or skirts? transfems with low voices? transfems with short hair?

and do you respect transmascs who don't bind? transmascs who wear makeup or dresses or skirts? transmascs with high voices? transmascs with long hair?

do you respect trans people who don't "pass"?

If this bill continues to gain more and more bipartisan support, the chances of it passing are going to increase. If this bill passes, everyone’s private information is going to be at a high risk and, depending on which state you’re in, very important topics are going to be wiped off of the face of the internet and free speech won’t be an option.

Please, call your senators, send your senators an email, or send a physical letter to your senators. We need to continue fighting and put an end to this dogshit bill.

here's to trans men with anger issues. here's to trans men who are loud or raise their voices without realizing, neurodivergent or otherwise. here's to trans men who get irritable or frustrated or impatient easily due to trauma, neurodivergence, mental illness, pain, or other disabilities, here's to trans men who can't take care of themselves, here's to trans men who can't stuff down their emotions, here's to trans men with violent intrusive thoughts, here's to trans men who snap without meaning to, here's to paranoid and psychotic trans men who become scared or hostile toward others without causing violence due to delusions and hallucinations, here's to trans men who struggle with homicidal ideation

here's to trans men who are bitter and angry and don't want to get better, here's to trans men who have tried to recover from trauma and have failed, here's to trans men who can't access proper mental health care because they aren't taken seriously, here's to trans men with mental health care trauma, here's to trans men who cope poorly with anger and hit inanimate objects and do "scary" things that don't actually hurt other people physically or emotionally.

here's to trans men with complicated mental health issues who need help but get insulted and called mean, rude, scary, shitty, assholes, dicks, jackasses and abusers. here's to trans men being human, too, and struggling with things just like anyone else. that doesn't make us evil, we are heavily traumatized by cisheteronormative society. here's to trans men who don't hurt other people but get told they do because people won't let men struggle with their emotions. i love you. you're loved. keep your chin up.
