Erin Reed has presented a new version of her Anti-Trans Risk Assessment Map over at Erin in the Morning.
She writes:
The elections have tightened across the United States, and anti-trans ads have become a major part of the 2024 campaign cycle. As such, the risk has substantially raised for nationwide laws targeting transgender people in the coming years for both youth and adults. For states, the state of Texas has been upgraded to Do Not Travel, only the second state to receive such a recommendation. This comes as Odessa, Texas becomes the first city in the nation to pass a $10,000 bounty on transgender people inside of bathrooms.

I think a big reason trans men do not appear in media as often as other queer identities, as well as historical erasure to a point, is because it goes against many women's experience with challenging bigotry. I cannot tell you how many pieces of media exist with "girl dresses as boy to get Privilege or Respect she wasn't given before, but has to reveal she is A Woman by the end as she has to prove women can do The Thing TM too and it's more 'honest' to her identity'". With a lot of trans masc/man historical figures there is constant fighting over whether it was really a women fighting the patriarchy and not a guy struggling with being trans. There is a book about "female husbands and the women that love them" for Christ's sake. We are constantly interpreted as on the border of being super hurt/proactive women for the sake of that class's conscience, and anything else is "taking away" from women's more important issues, supposedly. I'm just tired of all afab people having trouble with their identity being funneled into the "women good, patriarchy/men bad" pipeline or else. It feels like me talking about being a man, even in a trans context, is unacceptable because it *might affect a women at some point
reminders for today:
if you or someone you know might need it in the next few years, purchase plan b. the shelf life of plan b is 4 years, and we might not be able to access it as easily as we can now in the days ahead.
if you are larger/plus size: go online and purchase ella instead of plan b. plan b is less effective if you aren’t under 160 pounds.
if you can, purchase books that project 2025 is looking to ban.
mass deportations are starting. if you see ice vehicles or agents, yell ice raid and la migra as loud as you can.
if someone asks who you voted for, keep your mouth shut. they’re fishing for traitors.
if anyone, anyone at all asks about your neighbors or their legal status in the us, you know nothing. don’t be the reason that their family is separated.
if anyone asks about your religion or lack thereof, keep it vague. this administration will look for any excuse to persecute you.
your friends are trans or queer? for the next four years they’re not. don’t expose anyone’s status as a trans or queer person to anyone else, even if you think you can trust them.
did someone you know get an abortion? no, they didn’t. they were never pregnant.
in short, don’t be a snitch, and keep to yourself these next four years. we’ll make it through this even if it seems hopeless at times.
we can survive this. we’ve survived before, and we’ll survive again.
Interesting trend among transmascs & how terfs apply rhetoric to them that I've noticed:
If you are conventionally attractive and discuss taking hormones or getting surgery, terfs will lament that they can't keep losing beautiful women to the brainwashing of gender ideology and that you shouldn't transition because you're so beautiful and so good.
But if you're conventionally ugly and discuss taking hornones or getting surgery... terfs usually cut right to the "well you're just mentally ill and can't make decisions for yourself" or more immediately to the "well you just want to get ahead because being a woman is hard and difficult and being a man would be easier, gender traitor"
Why are pretty people afforded the "gentle*" rhetoric? Because terfs find them inherently more worth "saving" than the ugly people? Perhaps because terfs think that pretty people are inherently more "moral" and willing to listen to "reason?"
I just find it interesting that conventionally attractive people are treated differently than conventionally unattractive people. has anyone else noticed this? am i just crazy?
*this rhetoric is not gentle and is an act of violence against transmasculine people regardless of its intent. trying to detransition any transmasculine person for any reason that isn't that person's own desire to detransition is an act of violence.

PROTESTS ARE HAPPENING. THEY ARE JUST NOT BEING COVERED OUTSIDE OF LOCAL MEDIA OUTLETS. DO NOT RELY ON MAINSTREAM MEDIA.

Saying that man and woman are the only genders is actually LESS nuanced than saying that earth, water, air, and fire are the only elements.
