accepting that you’re objectively weird & owning it is infinitely better than being constantly desperate to appear normal to people who don’t even matter to you

Comic by Mariam Naiem
I like to spend time with friends one-on-one. But lately there are three of us. [The silhouettes of the speaker and friend in each scene, except for the first, are always accompanied by a large humanoid shadow looming over them and listening in.] --- "In case something happens, finish my book, okay?" [my friend asked of me as we sat together] "Ok," [I said while the shadowy specter sat next to my friend.] --- "I don't have any plans for afterwards," [my friend in the military said as the specter stood behind them and we looked to the horizon.] --- "How are you?" [I asked as we knelt on either side of the flowers.] "Good! I went to the cemetery and laid an equal amount of flowers to all three of them." [The specter knelt behind my friend.] --- "I don't see my life after the war," [my friend in the military told me from across the table. The specter loomed over them and reached to touch them.] --- "I am sick of this! WHO ARE YOU? We didn't invite you," [I said, confronting the specter. It towered over me.] --- "Yes, you did not," [it acknowledged, revealing a scythe in its grasp and presenting a slip of paper to me.] --- 24.02.2022 INVITATION from Russia.

Yeah sure i was seen as ruining my body and myself when I started to present more and more masculinely yeah sure I was told all my masculine haircuts were ugly and I had horrible clothes and no man would date me with unshaved legs and short hair and my grandparents didn't want a granddaughter with a buzzcut and facial piercing and that women were losing such a valuable young lady but yeah you're right masculinity is never seen as degrading or bad
no, spotify, i don't want to use ai to "turn my ideas into playlists". i already fucking do that with my brain and hands and i do it for fun. what, should i get ai to pet my cat for me? to play my silly games for me? to spend time with my beautiful wife for me? how about i rend you asunder
Crying with my mama—
I ask what the limit to her love is.
She says that there’s nothing,
still some clarity is wanted.
She doesn’t understand
becoming something different,
but I can hold her hand
and she can ask forgiveness.
There’s a
blue sky ahead—
it grows
by keeping promises.
If god
made wheat
for bread,
then god made me to be an honest man.
Daily in communion with my deepest wishes—
shaving in the mirror,
reading science fiction.
Tomorrow and tomorrow, I will learn the meaning,
of the lengths that I will go to be alive, and love, and listen.
There’s a
blue sky ahead—
it grows
by keeping promises.
If god
made wheat
for bread,
then god made me to be an honest man.
I will not repeat the tenets of my born religion,
or lend weight to an argument that I am not sufficient.
I am not determined by the love that I am given.
I am here because I’m here because I’m here,
and it is written.
There’s a
blue sky ahead—
it grows
by keeping promises.
If god
made wheat
for bread,
then god made me to be an honest man.
I will choose myself over the institution.
I will not believe the propaganda that I’m used in.
I can break my heart to own my revolution.
Oh, and I am more courageous for the wanting.
I am more courageous for the wanting.
And I can choose to be
an honest man.
Mama, I won’t plead,
I’m simply what I am—
and you can still believe
whatever that you can.
