is this at all accurate
just a little thing i noticed!! spoilers for danganronpa despair time chapter 2 :)
i was rewatching a little bit, as i havent kept up with the series in a while and needed a recap. i screenshotted the rules because i got an odd feeling.
i noticed something. rule 14 is a bit vague. it says:
'All murderers must be held accountable for their crimes.'
i know this is definitely supposed to refer to execution but it gives me a weird feeling idk i feel like there could be a twist to this? again, could be for a more sinister effect, but the rules of the blackened and what happens in the case of a murder are explained earlier, in rules 2, 3 and 4.
so i had a bit of a thought?
we know that levi is a murderer, right? he admitted it himself.
rule 14 says all murderers must be held accountable for their actions, not just blackeneds. levi said he was never held accountable for his actions, because hope's peak cleared them or something i forgot?
so isn't levi technically breaking a rule??
sorry if im kind of clutching at straws here but i feel like this would be a good twist, like maybe him and ace get executed together considering ace is a blackened and levi supposedly admitted to breaking school rules
not sure tho, even if it was true monotv has been lax on rules, he let arei put a rope around his neck etc i don't think it's too likely
any feedback on this? tagging it as a theory, but it's more of a rant thingy :D
well said :D
not really related but i think it'd be funny if after all the buildup levi just kinda died
like arturo just fails or smth and its rlly anticlimactic đ
anyway very cool
now, and hear me out, here is how acevi can still win (a thesis)
i have my personal suspicions that aceâs line âi needed a reason to hate youâ has implications about his friendship with taylorâconsidering the only thing we know definitively that levi and taylor have in common is that they are both people that ace, at some point, has considered a friend. taylor's death is vaguely alluded to in a line of dialogue where ace states he doesnât want a third death on his handsâa line that also shows he feels responsibleâhowever, we can assume that taylorâs death was not maliciously aceâs fault, as aceâs motive secret is about his eating disorder; if he had truly committed a murder by the standards of the law, chances are that would have been written instead (see: levi, min). this being said, i believe that ace was deliberately hostile towards levi in an attempt to drive him away and discourage any form of friendship out of fear of deepening any pre-existing attachment he may have felt towards levi in the earlier half of chapter one.
levi, in turn, is shown to be confused by this, though we can gather from his lack of empathy or internalised morality that said confusion doesnât stem from a place of anger, nor spite. subjectively, i believe that levi was, in some genuine way, intrigued by ace and his seemingly erratic behaviours, and this lack of overt distaste or hatred prompted ace to deliberately press his buttons, trying (and ultimately succeeding) in breaking leviâs composure. levi snapping at him, in some way, comforts ace, affirming his self-deprecating belief that he is incapable of being cared for, speeding up the process that he believes is inevitable; that levi will tire of him.
upon the revelation that whether ace lives or diesâand more broadly, ace in general is of no concern to levi, ace is very quickly forced to come to terms with the fact that all his efforts were effectively meaningless, and ultimately it would not have meaningfully contributed towards leviâs opinion of him. in a way, he mourns this; in his efforts to drive levi (and honestly, the entire cast) away through hostility, he placed a target on his own back, resulting in an attempt on his life from nico. in his final hours, ace is able to see the broader picture formerly, obscured by the tunnel vision given to him by his own debilitating anxiety, but is ultimately too proud (or too scared) to apologise to levi directly, doubling down on his efforts in the conversation they have post-trial.
i believe that ace did not necessarily account for forming an attachmentâmuch less any form of attraction to levi, and that this oversight only further infuriated him. this culminates at the end of chapter 2, wherein levi is shot, perhaps fatally, and ace has to confront himself and the person he has tried to be throughout the narrative. in his final moments, not only does he plead for his own immediate executionâsomething he has been, quite literally, scared to tears by, with his general fear of death being highlighted continuously the entire seriesâbut delivers a monologue to arturo in open defiance of his own vices, encouraging him to save leviâs life and not be petrified by the same fear he himself has now succumbed to. i am of the incredibly strong opinion that this dictates a strong level of care, or at the very least responsibility for levi and his wellbeing.
how will this culminate in acevi still winning? through levi. if he survives to chapter 3, which he very well may, he will be left to contemplate this; to attempt to unpack aceâs motivations for both his hostility and his seemingly unprecedented choice to face his own death to save leviâs life. while i think itâs unrealistic to expect any sudden empathy for ace in a hypothetical levi character arc, ace would undoubtedly occupy his thoughts well into later chapters.
thank you for reading keep in mind i am a sad little man with very strong and very biased opinions on things i have too much time to talk about â¤ď¸
drdt spoilers and all that, i had another thought, this is a brain dump and not a coherent thought
spoilers for drdt
ok so ive seen whit timeloop theory makes sense i think its cool but what about full game timeloop theory (.. that only whit can recall.. because he's just.. like that.. idk)
i mean hear me out the game says 'all murderers must be punished', theres the theory that all of them contributed to a death somehow (edit: and thats why they are being punished by playing the killing game, theoretically), thats all well and good but can anyone actually KILL teruko
like she survived being stabbed. and the guns and stuff
maybe the game keeps looping because of teruko specifically, that's why xander has to kill her, because they're stuck in the game. on more of a clutching at straws note, maybe him and eden were the survivors of the last game, and realised they had to die to restart the loop or something after learning the truth and to kill teruko
'i wasnt expecting her to attack me like that' eden could be crying because she doesn't actually want to attack xander but like. she gotta kill him dude. idk. idk where im going with this :(
but that would be cool if it was a plot point because it gives eden cool relevance without making her evil or a mastermind
anyway yeah point is the killing game only continues because teruko lives. if teruko dies, then they can finally get out of the loop? maybe?
essentially it's like. purgatory. because people go to purgatory as a temporary waiting room for their sins to be purged and cleaned and stuff, they can't leave until they've paid the last penny etc
teruko is the last penny i guess
it gives them a plausible reason for xander to kill teruko, he might not remember the last loop but whatever his source if, if its linked to the loop them he's kinda taking one for the team tryna kill teruko idk
also davids weird treatment towards teruko idk
maybe he had a little conversation with xander before matthewsman kicked the bucket and that's why he's acting all weird IDK
IDK ANYMORE THATS JUST A THEORY
any thoughts? at all? i might just be going crazy again lol ty for reading :)
(edit #2: try not to use 'idk' in a sentence challenge, level impossible)
spoilers for drdt. like, all of it so far. as of ch2 ep16.
whit as a character just isn't adding up for me. his reactions to things have been wrong up until now, or at least not as prominent as other characters. not necessarily saying he's a mastermind, or evil, or a david-chiem-type character, but i don't think he's who we think he id
whit has been shown to struggle to hold in his laughter in the middle of a class trial about the murder of one of his classmates, which is definitely an inappropriate reaction, but the fact that he's holding back a laugh at an unintentional joke shows that he isn't forcing amusement in the complete wrong situation. charles seems used to it by now to be honest, but uhhh idk
he's also become a fan favourite, being paired alongside charles as a good ship dynamic. understandably, whit has become a lovable character, serving (slaying) as some form of comic relief. but his reactions seriously give me a weird feeling. even if he's masking his emotions, to do it to this level, in this situation, feels wrong to me. it might just be a personal feeling about him, i do think he's funny and i like whit, but cmon man that is THE MOST SUSPICIOUS MAN IVE EVER SEEN
for example:
whit appears nonchalant after the gruelling, emotional class trial that him and his classmates have sat through for hours? hours game time and real time, i believe. whit is so casual here, and it bothers me - he doesn't look tired at all, worn out, he doesn't even seem to CARE.
more of whit's apathy:
this is the most concern i remember whit showing until this point, and it's directed towards charles. and not their classmate who has just been shot and is, like, violently bleeding out.. it's a bit inappropriate? he doesn't express shock about levi's sacrifice, he just seems to be anxious for charles.
this makes me wonder if whit is maybe more detached than other characters? sure he acts as a comedic character, but is he doing this deliberately? it's not making the mood better, no matter how much he tries, he should've figured that out by now. how is he capable of just keeping a mostly straight face (or, well, happy face) throughout two whole class trials? and an execution (one one so far)
then, there's the first instance of something extreme from whit:
im not sure what to interpret this emotion as. i initially took it as whit being utterly shocked, taken aback, maybe he has claustrophobia? looking into it more i still don't know what to think. he might be hateful, or having some sort of flashback or whatever, but whatever it is it looks dangerous.
this is more emotion than he shows towards xander's death, min's execution, arei's death, levi's sacrifice. and it's towards a locked door. that's why he could have claustrophobia, maybe some that's trauma-related. this could be explored further in the upcoming chapters if we're lucky. :)
sorry if im going into too much detail!!! he's just sus to me at the moment!!! and i miss levi and i miss ace and i am a very very very sad person and i want them BACK!!!!!!!! anyway hope this was fun to read i guess idk maybe perhaps
more spoilers
uhhh so now he's shot, you could technically say he's been 'punished' of sorts, but i think it's pretty far fetched lol

everyone suggesting whit is claustrophobic and nobody suggesting charles is claustrophobic and that on top of all the blood in the trial room, everyone possibly being trapped there without elevator access was enough to make whit get mad at monotv. we spent a lot of the trial talking about levi not having an inherent sense of empathy, but whit is the one whose sense of compassion feels most screwy to me.
whit appears completely undisturbed through multiple people's brutal deaths. levi gets bullets through him and everyone's freaking out about getting him medical treatment ASAP, except whit. whit's primary concern was that charles didn't close his eyes and saw all the blood from it. the only things whit ever brings up with any sense of seriousness relate to charles. this goes beyond ship fuel or mastermind/traitor bait, i'm half beginning to suspect this ultimate matchmaker is just a very dedicated yandere
credit to @nullin-void for the generator i think
i just watched the new episode, a little bit late! it HURTS :) anyway, i saw some parallels, and i wasn't sure if i was clutching at straws, so i'm going to put them here!
taco and oj with knife and suitcase?
taco's character was playing dumb and she was going to backstab right at the end
suitcase doesn't play dumb but come soff as a pushover initially and is also labelled a backstabber
knife seems to have a somewhat high opinion of himself (unless i read that wrong) and it means he can be kinda a bitch
oj also has a VERY high opinion of himself and can definitely be a bitch! oj narcissism core!
there's also the physical size! suitcase and taco short, knife and oj taller, suitcase and taco wide, oj and knife kinda same wideness
suitcase and taco, both originally had no arms (before taco uhhhhhh.. magically had arms idk i didnt watch season 1 im sorry im not a real fan đ
going by this logic, taco was initially going to backstab oj at the end of season 1 but failed
were suitcase and knife a way of mephone4 retrying the trope? too much character development happened to just label them as that now, but is suitcase supposed to win the season like taco was supposedly meant to? or would knife win like oj did-
this is what happens when you give inanimate insanity to a little LOSER. it will make its little THEORIES. and be a little SAD.
anyway did i miss anything that links to this? :D
(edit: i know he made iii to make it more lighthearted bc season 2 got too depressing and shit but was that what he initially meant to do with season 2? and then it got depressing anyway?)
DRDT CCHAPTER 2 EXECUTION SPOILERS AND MORE
just watched drdt chapter 2 episode 16. you know what that means!! time for a rant!!
LEVI TAKING BULLETS FOR TERUKO??? I WAS SO SURE IT WAS GONNA BE ACE THAT DID IT AND HE CAME OUT OF NOWHERE
HE'S MY FAVOURITE I AM ACTUALLY SO WRECKED
also may make a seperate post about this but whit is WAY too chill. this is the first time we've seen him lose his cool briefly, and it's when they're locked in. i think he could have some form of claustrophobia.
ace's execution was so fucking cruel. in the end, he got himself killed because he was so scared. it was anticlimactic, it was immediately overshadowed by someone else, nobody really mourned him at ALL. ace didn't get a buildup, and he died knowing that the one person he considered a friend could die the longer he lived on. that is FOULLLLL.
also. ace said that he'd have a third murder on his hands. arei, levi and.... who?
veronika was so annoying this chapter. im sorry but she actually got on my nerves so much. girl. shut up im trying to watch my doomed yaoi
i still don't trust eden
hu jing kinda average, j kinda average, nico kinda average
david not much screentime, but he seemed shocked when monotv was actually unconscious at first. maybe he genuinely believed that couldn't happen? does he have a reason to think so?
im not sure whats up with arturo, smth to do with his sister, not being able to save someone? i actually missed most of the arturo lore and i dont care enough about him to look back
sucks to be charles right now, but i was more confused as to how whit was more concerned about CHARLES than the classmate(s) in front of them literally about to DIE. i know the fandom loves whit but he is giving me so many red flags i have to say it. ill make a post on him soon. i DO NOT TRUST WHIT YOUNG.
eden kinda mid rn but i just don't like her so im biased..
it was very interesting to see teruko's self-blame this chapter and her beliefs coming out more to the viewer. her talk with monotv was so interesting. so monotv really is just a robot - but why was it so sinister in that one scene very early on in drdt? yk red face smile face. we haven't seen that come up again, and monotv hasn't shown many more examples of sinister behaviour. i wonder if that was an example of monotv being controlled maybe??
im wondering if ace helped to kill mai? she could be the third death? i saw someone say that the game could be punishment for them all for what they did to/their connection to mai, and i think that's an amazing idea
also another part on levi. he's trying his best to understand ace, so much, and yet he just can't. i was very intrigued to see how frustrated he was (ha. divorce arc.) but also the fact that he put teruko's life before his own despite having more difficulty than the others is just. wow. like, anyone else in that room had the opportunity to save her, in the same way, but it was LEVI that stepped forward. and for teruko of all people.
i may have to make seperate posts i just wanted to get this out quickly while the episode is still fresh!!! ^^ sorry if missed anything!!!
