Been reading about 1930's Italy for a fic then something something back then, boys Nico's age were trained to become soldiers, pledge their loyalty and all that.

It got me to thinking that MAYBE part of the reason why Nico likes Mythomagic so much is because something in him remembers how it felt to strategize and to win. Something like the thrill of observing and finding your enemies' weak points and knowing exactly when and where and how to attack.

Nico and Hazel

They both have powers ove eachothers "domains" but the reason they don't use it is because of mental blocks

Hazel doesn't control the dead, and shadows (as much as nico) because it reminds her too much about her time in the fields, but she can control them

Nico has just never tried and built up a sort of mental block , so he can't do it but he theoretically could control them if he wanted, as shown in the titan's curse, and the battle of the labyrinth

Nico was always responsible and protective of his sister

still a nerdy extrovert but more controlled

basically takes Bianca's role in the first few scenes, but is more talkative and detective-like

Let's Bianca make her own decisions even though all he wants to do is hide his sister in his jacket and protect her from the world

Bianca becomes a Hunter

Nico just says something like " It's alright I was going to be older than you anyways"

But he feels bad, he just doesn't let it show since he knows, that Bianca is her own person

Goes on Quest

Doesn't die in the graveyard

But when they get to Mount Tamalpais, I'm going to say it's always sunny and never rains or anything, and Nico dies

Holds the sky so the goddess can be free while they fight, but Percy takes it from him cause he doesn't want him to die, as Nico is so young and new.

Tries to protect someone and gets killed

doesn't get turned into stars, and goes to the underworld

is the fav child cause he's older

Comes to Bianca, when she's upset and about to do what Nico did in BOTL while leaving the hunters, but Bianca's fatal flaw is holding grudges and she still resents Percy

Brings Hazel out during HOO ,

free rein of the underworld. so completes his role

Bianca just likes the hunt and is afraid of death so she joins, and Nico is more fine with this (still not happy)

The Canals

What if Frank had pushed him into the canals. And he just didn't resurface

now bear with me here, what if that's why Nico is so powerful, like at 12 yrs old he was more powerful that Bianca ( I know we don't have proof but still)

There’s something to be said about Nico and Bianca being so close in age and Bianca feeling like she had to raise him rather than just be his sister. Nico doesn’t see it that way he doesn’t want Bianca to be his mom he just wants her to be a sister and a friend and ally. Nico sees it as the tow of them equally looking out for each other equally. You see how protective he is when Thorn disrespects her and Nico almost told him to go shove the great army up his butt. 1930s Italy patriarchy Italy raised Bianca to take care of everybody in her family and not expect to be taken care of and looked after in return. Nico always knew that was bullshit. Maria raised them both to look after each other equally. Maria raised Nico to be aware that people (men) won’t take Bianca seriously and that he needs to be there to stand up for her. Nico is all but willing to throw hands for her. He tried to go on the quest with them. He tried to sneak off after the hunters to protect her but Percy stopped him because he’s “too young”. And that’s the only reason he made Percy promise to protect her if he wouldn’t allow Nico to do it. Hes only one year younger than her. Maybe a year and a half but that’s not much of a difference. I can’t imagine how angry Nico was at the world cause they didn’t let him go on the quest specifically to protect Bianca and she ended up dying. How Nico must have blamed himself just as much as Percy. Blames himself for not finding a way to follow them for not finding a way to protect her like he was raised to do. That’s a big part of the reason why he was so attached to her. They were each others protectors.

(Sorry if I’m rambling here I’m a bit sleep deprived and not sure if my points are getting across)

I think when Bianca was born a girl Maria was very worried for her because of the environment and time period they lived in. So Maria straight up asked Hades to make a boy to protect her just in case Bianca standing up for herself is not enough. Just in case. Because humans in numbers working together are so much stronger than humans working alone. Maria didn’t ever want her baby girl to feel alone in the fucked up world they lived in. And she knew it wouldn’t be the same to be there as a mother because she’s mortal and Bianca is demigod and needs someone to relate to and was worried Bianca could never relate to anyone or anything and feel alone even if her mom is right there. So Maria asked Hades for a boy. And that’s Nico’s whole purpose in life is just to be there for Bianca. That’s why he’s so attached. And that’s why he’s doesn’t know what to do where to go and doesn’t even know who he even is after she died. Because that was his whole life. That was his whole reason for living. For existing. Now it’s all gone. If there was only a Nico because there was a Bianca first, then if Bianca ceases to exist then, does Nico cease to exist too?

Just to add to this (but with the underworld kids)

Nico and Hazel's eyes change color according to which gem is nearest to them, or whatever their normal eye color is if there isn't one near (Bright, bright gold for hazel, and dark but multicolored eyes for Nico like a gemstone). But both of them naturally have sweet eyes, that are kind, but learned their scary stares

On the other hand, Bianca has the deepest darkest eyes (that don't change color) , this changed slightly after she became a hunter, but she and Nico both have intimidating stares (Bianca was born with it, but Nico learned it from her), while Hazel has a stunning wolf stare.

Nico di Angelo with the biggest doe eyes. Big, wide, adoring brown eyes. People can't help but fall in love when they see those eyes.

Will Solace with the most feline eyes. Pretty, upturned, cynically curious, blue eyes. People can't help but be uncomfortable when they see those eyes.

Nico di Angelo who had been stereotyped as unsettling and strange (he can be BUT) he has been looking out for and helping people nearly all his life.

Will Solace who has been stereotyped as unthinkingly optimistic and trusting (he can be BUT) he is curious, chooses his battles, and helps people through tough love and unconventional guidence.
