thank you for 4 followers, how do you guys feel about more "rat metal" posters? I think they're neat
started: Aug 2023 status: abandoned
last year I had this wonderful idea to make a big articulated dragon thing (a childhood dream come true) ideally it would be made out of thin wood sheets (balsa wood?) and have bolts for joints - I guess the plan was to make a cardboard and toothpicks sketch and then a pattern to have it all laser cut (if you can even order smth like that), but I stopped at the (unfinished) sketch
it took days to cut out the segments (with the hind legs being remade entirely at some point) and I wasn't satisfied how the limbs connect to the torso (because I didn't plan it) - it would probably have to be remade/fixed a lot more, but I simply got (very) tired of it
now, the wings were supposed to be the really cool part, with hinges to allow them to move up and down, inner bones made of wire and some fabric for the membrane.. this never went anywhere and stayed as an idea in my head (one shitty cardboard wing sketch was made)
as of now, the dragon has been taped together to prevent everything falling apart, and is hanging from the ceiling to watch over when I sleep (first pic)
fought hard not to delete this post will never finish it because I stopped caring, so here's the full sketch (remember, workplace is your second home)
based on this poster
up drawing everyone's favorite character (work in progress)
the idea is based on a Polish socialist realism poster thing - for now it only says 'REMEMBER' with the rest cut out, but I'll obviously translate the slogan if I finish the drawing (then you'll find out what it is that you shouldn't forget about) I wanted to do this for a very long time, because I can't get over how Jayce looks exactly like the type of idealized men that the socialist propaganda posters would depict, and I find it extremely funny not only that, but also the slogans that were used back when Polish People's Republic was a thing are now hilarious
I also can't unsee how he kinda looks like or has the same weird, kinda cursed(?) energy as Alex the Lion from Madagascar, so that's what I used for his head for now (it is also great at conveying all of the feelings I was feeling when spending hours on the drawing) I've had a 4 months break from art and (as always) ended up setting the bar way too high, so this will most likely take forever I hate how I have no idea what I'm doing, but instead of actually learning I'll be wasting hours trying to figure things out on my own and getting angry with myself, because everything takes so much time and still doesn't look any good - I really wish I could work on my skill consistently and learn like a normal person, maybe then I wouldn't be so far behind despite (theoretically) doing digital art for half of my life
anyway, that's probably how my posts are going to look like for the most part, because I need a place to ramble (I have no one to talk to), which I used to do a lot on insta story; still figuring out how to do this on Tumblr without scaring people off with walls of text

at first I taped my hand with masking tape to draw the segments directly on it and then trace them onto paper, but it didn't help much as they would end up not matching each other anyway - I got fed up with it very quick and just freehanded most of the parts
yes, at some point I tried sewing it onto a woolen glove (it was way too thick) - ended up sewing my own glove out of a stocking and used WHITE THREAD, because I didn't believe any of this could be done anyway
thought it will be impossible to glue the segments to the glove, because it had to be done when wearing it - the polyurethane glue reacts with the fabric, gets hot and melts it, so it would probably burn my skin and then stick to it forever
I managed to evade that with wearing a latex glove underneath, although I could still feel the heat; it then had to be cut out from the inside of the gauntlet somehow
I honestly thought I wouldn't be able to ever put it back on (thought it would all fall apart), but it's wearable, just takes some time to adjust it to fit and you're ready to pet the rat!
the sewing is definitely the weakest part - besides visible white thread there are holes on the sides that I can't keep up with repairing next thing is there's nothing on the inside of the hand, just the plain stocking, where I should probably put some thicker fabric elements I'm looking forward to make an improved version - I have a lot of ideas and some more cans, but nothing more so far
anyways, it still is the coolest thing I've ever made; maybe that's why I'm anxious about making a new one
this is fine, regress is fine
🟥 ABOUT ME a guy, a looser and a creative mind loves to make stuff, decent at photography, struggles with drawing, enjoys shitty comics and collages, knows basic 3D, bit of a nerd and (formerly) a huge Arcane fan
🟥 TAGS #hor.art - my art #ask🍞 - are open #horeblog - reblogs #sthory - stuff I would post on insta story (shitpost, life updates); it usually gets deleted after a few days #katalog okazji - Polish supermarket flyer made entirely out of jokes
🟥 OTHER 🔻 sorry for not reblogging much, I couldn't decide if I want my blog to be original content only or not 🔻 if I don't follow you back, it's most likely because I'm easily overwhelmed and already consume way too much content; I hardly ever follow anyone these days 🔻 if you follow me on Pinterest, keep in mind that sometimes it won't let me view/respond to comments or edit my own posts
