he's so annoying i hate him /j /pos
they’re so cute hhhdjdjgkdjfj
ur cooking with this hold on
I'm not sure this is so much of an AU rather than a limited event that happens sometime outside the main plot (like the ashk chapters) but I think it's worth rating anyways. Here, Hanako is one of six idols in a boy group and Kou is apparently his manager! There's not much information on the AU aside from basic introductions but based on this art of Kou trying to comfort Hanako before a fan-event, it's clear that they're on pretty friendly terms.
I mean just look at them. I know this image is a gag but Kou’s radiant optimism paired with Hanako’s underlying nervousness is so fun!! Hanako already likes to hide his personal issues under a front so add the stress of being an idol and you get an anxious mess waiting to explode. Though Hanako tries to keep it under wraps with playful banter and such, Kou is very perceptive and sees right through him. He’ll give him a few odd pep talks and generally hype him up. While Hanako thinks Kou’s wording is rather…ominous at times, it’s hard to stay down when Kou’s genuine hope wears off on him. Now with Kou being Hanako’s manager, he’ll obviously be there every step of the way to support and reassure Hanako whenever he needs it which makes for a sweet dynamic.
Generally speaking, I’d like to think their dynamic is friendlier than most work relationships because Kou doesn’t come off as a very uptight professional manager and Hanako knows he can mess with him without many repercussions. Just as much as Kou has to keep Hanako in check, Hanako likes to keep Kou on his toes. And by that I mean Hanako likes to pull pranks on his manager ❤️ From hiding in Kou’s office to jump scare him to replacing Kou’s clipboard papers with pictures of himself, Hanako has a lot of fun with Kou. Obviously Kou isn’t a big fan of the pranks but he’s glad Hanako’s comfortable enough to pull them.
Of course, with the whole boss/employee dynamic comes a slew of issues in the context of a romantic relationship. Most companies have a fraternization policy (especially in cases of positions of power) along with idols having a strict no dating policy so whatever becomes of their relationship has to remain a secret. The two of them trying to navigate their feelings under all the media scrutiny and possibilities of getting fired would be absolutely disastrous and I love it.
i like yuri a normal amount haha (dont they look so cutieful 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕)
omg yuri festival date 💕💕💕💕💕

I know everyone wants his yorishiro to be Kou but listen...Mitsuba's scarf was a gift from Tsukasa and if Tsu is really as innocent as they say, I want these two to become better friends. I want his yorishiro to be the scarf
*EDIT* I want to expand on the symbolism of giving somebody a scarf, not just in books but as a whole; it is far more than just to keep him warm. In Japan, giving someone a scarf symbolizes a deep connection, a bond between two people, and a reminder of a loved one, ESPECIALLY somebody you care deeply for. Not only that, but the scarf is RED. Red is the color of love. Have you ever heard of the "string that binds us together"? Please, for the love of God, let Mitsuba have a yorishiro so he will be stronger and live. See where this is going?
Tsukasa and Mitsuba have been bound quite LITERALLY by "The Red String of Fate"
Kou pretends to be Tsukasa’s friend except Tsukasa finds out and leaves but Kou does the k drama run to the train station to apologize and ask for his hand in friendship and Tsukasa is like “wait for me?” And Mitsuba enters his homophobia arc because Kou is now like a lovesick Victorian widow
“How do you fall in love with someone who isn’t even HERE?!”
“Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”
LMAOOOOOOOOO Kou’s dramatic ass so would

i love mitsukou more than i love myself 🗣️🗣️🗣️
can you guys tell that i like koukane a normal amount hahaha
Akane treks down the path, grumbling as he pushes against the low branches. Jeez, when was the last time the gardener maintained these plants, surely the president knew about this... unless that guy purposely left it there to annoy him! Why else would that asshole leave these stupid branches this low... Tch, Akane is 100% making sure that guy never touches his very tasty, made with care, takoyaki.
As he reaches the front door of the Minamoto house, Akane hears a faint crash in the background. Jesus, never one boring day here. He moves his hand to knock on the door when it suddenly opens, with Tiara barreling out with a smile on her face. She bumps into Akane, making him nearly trip over the stairs if it weren't for someone grabbing his arm. Thank god, he was worried the food was going to get smashed.
"Thanks Minamoto-kouhai, you got quick reflexes," Akane lets out a relived sigh as he straightens himself up. Kou nods but seems more prioritized in scolding Tiara than whatever Akane just said. Whatever, at least the food is still okay. He watches them for a few moments before heading inside.
Akane walks down the hallways towards the dining room, making sure walk really loudly as he walks past you know who's room. That's for being an asshole. Well, maybe he's the asshole for makin all this noise... but who gives a crap, it's the president we're talking about, when has that dude ever been a good person.
He reaches the dining room and places his food bag on the table. He sets up the table, grabbing the bowls and utensils from the drawers he long memorized from his multiple visits. Akane places everything down neatly, making sure nothing looks horrendously out of place.
As Akane checks the angle of Kou's bowl for the millionth time, said guy walks in with an energetic girl bouncing around the house like it's nobody's business. You know what, good for her.
"Hey Aoi-senpai, thanks so much for setting up the table, seriously. And you also made dinner too, so I'm really grateful..." Kou looks like he's about to sob... jeez, he really must be thankful.
"It's no big deal, it gave me an excuse to test out your recipe!" Akane grins as he pulls out the chair for Tiara, who gives him a hug before sitting down. "This test round went really well, I can't wait to make this for Ao-chan!!"
Haha, this was definitely for Ao-chan, after all, he wouldn't do this just for anyone else haha... Kou snickers as he sits besides Tiara, "I should've guessed. Well, did it go well?"
"See for yourself," Akane proudly opens the box, showing off the perfectly round takoyakis, the color a crisp tan that could make anyone's mouth water. "The world's most perfect takoyakis, if I do say so myself!"
"Woah...." Both Minamoto's eyes were as big as the takoyakis, filled to the brim with amazement. Akane grins, feeling warm all over. He really likes this feeling, maybe he should keep making them food.
"Thanks for the food!" They both exclaim before digging straight in. Akane also made some other things, like shrimp stir-fry and some rice, but he was mostly proud of his takoyakis, so he didn't really care to brag about the side dishes. Hey, he made the food, he gets to pick favorites. Plus, he knows they're good, Ao-chan loves them!
Everyone was eating really well, which made Akane really happy honestly. He's glad they like his food, otherwise he probably would've died right then and there if they hated it. Especially if Kou hated it, because Kou is the best cook he knows right now. If Kou didn't like his food, he would disappear off the planet.
Tiara finished first, eating really fast in a concerning way. Akane was a bit amazed she didn't choke on her food... she should really eat slower... Kou seemed to try to get her to eat slower but gave up half way. Kou's a good big brother, Akane admires that about the younger guy... it reminds him about Mirai's gluttonous appetite... but with no manners at all! Tiara thanked Akane and gave him another hug before rushing out the room, showing very good manners unlike a certain clock keeper...
Kou sighs as he watches his sister run out the room. "Sorry, she can be a bit impatient..."
"It's okay, I'm just glad she likes my food," Akane pushes her chair back in, feeling all warm and fuzzy from this atmosphere. Seriously, maybe he should make these guys more food, this feeling is great. He reached out to eat another one of his fantastic takoyakis, but it seemed like Kou also really liked his takoyakis, since he too was reaching for one... and unfortunately for them, there was only one left.
Aw man... it's okay, he could just make more next time. Just when he was about to let Kou have them, Kou took it and offered it to him. Akane blinks but shrugs. Hey, if Kou didn't want it, he'll take it!
It was really good, he should make this for Ao-chan next time! And also make more for the Minamotos, since they really loves his food (and not because he's in denial about his feelings for a certain someone haha that's so funny).
Thank you everyone for participating!! The next month's character is Kou!! The form will be up tomorrow (when I wake up lol) so stay tuned for that!!

Anime//Manga
Nene and Aoi’s friendship doesn’t change and it is a problem.
Aoi is the first friend Nene makes at the academy, so they have known each other for a while.
Nene is sweet to Aoi, she consistently worries for Aoi well being when she is in danger, and shows great care for her, always going for Aoi when sharing her romantic woes.
The manga shows mostly Nene venting about love, while Aoi engage but never bring up her own problems. Aoi is guarded and rarely vulnerable with Nene, something that over the years, we are told Nene have noticed.
But when Nene says “Sometimes I think that she only gets close to me,” She is severely overestimating how much she understands Aoi, most of her interactions with Aoi are with a friendly persona.
When I say ‘friendly persona’, I do not mean Aoi is faking liking her, her friendship with Nene is genuine, Aoi only have two people she is deeply attached to at the start of the manga, and Nene is one of them. I just mean Aoi always shows off her cute and cheerful side, even when she isn’t feeling like the ‘cheerful girl’ she displays, her approach is always the same.
Her words here are condescending as hell but she still acts cutesy and friendly: It comes off as superficial. And a lot of what she says is pretty fake, just things that people expect a popular girl to say, things we know she doesn’t believe in or relate to:
“It’s all about experience!” “why don’t you date him just to try it out?” as if she ever dated someone, or viewed love and relationships as something to try out and move along, instead of a concept she is scared of.
But no matter how different from her personal beliefs Aoi’s words are, no matter how long Nene have known her, she always falls for the ‘popular girl’ approach.
Nene is confident Aoi is the girl everyone loves: She always pictures Aoi with a cute smile, oblivious in her throne, able to get any guy she wants.
And yet, even with that mental image, Nene doesn’t know what being popular really means.
When Aoi visits the stage, Nene is confused as to why she would ever go here.
Akane is the one who gives Nene an exposition on Aoi, dropping hints that her life is not a sea of roses.
When Nene hears this, she ignores that her friend was put in situations where she was pressured to do things she doesn’t want to, often in isolated places, to the point she constantly need to be protected, or how Akane looks troubled that this is a recurring problem. Instead, she focused on Akane’s devotion.
Nene’s fantasies of popularity are sugar coated, so she subconsciously undermines Aoi’s troubles and focuses on Akane’s behavior, which fits her personal reality that being popular is amazing and “Boys will do anything for Aoi, she is so desirable!”
Attention is attention, and since Aoi gets lots of attention, Nene puts Aoi on a pedestal: Give her a life devoid of issues.
Her view is in part Aoi’s fault. There is truth to what Akane said here:
Nene doesn’t ask about Aoi’s life, or go in dept about her own, but Aoi is the one that consistently plays along, she is the one that keeps the focus on superficial topics and make an effort to only shows Nene her cheerful and cutesy side. It makes their interactions feel empty: there isn’t a single instance in the manga where they have a talk that isn’t about boys, or school rumors, which are always used to move the plot along, not expand on the basis of their established friendship.
There is a mutual lack of interest to change what they have: Nene because she is content with the way things are and see no need for change, and Aoi because she is Aoi.
With Nene’s view of Aoi in mind, the lack of depth in their interactions, and Aoi’s playing along with the cheerful popular persona, I am not surprised Nene didn’t notice there was something weird with Aoi on the Grim Reaper Sacrifice arc.
Of course Aoi is so chirpy and playful after being kidnapped by a demon, nothing can phase her! Of course she knows the exit, that’s a popular girl for you!
The cute and smart Aoi is the only Aoi she knows well, so unlike Akane, Nene fully trusted her words and reasonings, falling in the hole.
Somehow, something as big as this betrayal doesn’t change her view on Aoi.
The only Aoi focused thought we get outside a chapter recap is “Sumire looks like Aoi.”
Which clearly has the “cute girl everyone can’t help but love” in mind.
When she does think about Aoi in the severance/rescue arc is always about the lifespan dilemma, not Aoi’s strange behaviour or why she acted like that. There is no wonder as to how Aoi feels, or if she did something wrong herself to be ‘thrown in the trash’, there is no thoughts at all about this other side Aoi have shown. No reflection.
Her view hasn’t changed in the slightest, just look at the way she talks about Aoi with Katakuri in the red house.
And we know that’s not true.
It was never true.
Nene is still her friend, she may be oblivious to a lot but she has been by Aoi’s side for years, so she knows more about Aoi than an average person would. She noticed Aoi genuinely loves and is proud of her plants.
She also knows Aoi has a crush on Akane and the knowledge made her discard him from being a possible crush option despite once upon a time finding him cute and worthy of dating.
Nene values their friendship more than any crush: Notice how Akane doesn’t show up on ‘Nene’s type’ list at all instead of dropping to ‘not her type’, subconsciously deciding he is not an option. Aoi’s feelings are more important.
This genuine care make the way she refuses to change her views on Aoi very sad.
Nene is so sure they are close and she gets Aoi, that she doesn’t understand that the Aoi she knows, who treasures her and loves plants and can feel distant, is just a fraction of the real Aoi. A very small fraction considering how long they have been friends, yet it’s understandable: Nene consistently covers her eyes when Aoi acts out of her persona and shows slivers of personal problems.
She doesn’t want her ‘universally loved’ best friend Aoi, and the Aoi that threw her in the trash to be the same people. She want thinks to stay the same, simple and sweet. To Nene, the cruel one was a brainwashed fake. That’s it. There is nothing else to it, no reason to think about it.
Which is not true.
We never get hints that imply the drug made Aoi do something against her will. Even after she completely snap out of the drug effect, Aoi owns her actions. She regrets it, deeply, but she also connects with it: She knows herself.
It’s because Aoi wasn’t faking it that she was so scared to apologize to Nene in the first place. She is shaking and anxious because it was her, an ugly part of her she isn’t fond of, but still a part of her: Still Aoi.
Nene saw her more unpleasant side. That terrifies Aoi.
This fear that Nene will hate her once she realizes who she is have been around for a while.
One of the few times Aoi was vulnerable and honest with Nene was in chapter 29, when she assumed Nene avoided her on purpose, because she ‘suddenly’ decided to hate Aoi.
When Nene heard this she is distressed, she doesn’t like seeing her friend sad, but there is no “I wonder why Aoi would think that…?”, no matter how unusual this insecurity is from Aoi’s ‘oblivious in her throne’ image, Nene doesn’t question it. We aren’t shown a single panel of Nene thinking about it.
But we are shown her thinking about the way Aoi makes people’s hearts race, which happened only two pages later, but is something Nene can easily fit into her established view on Aoi.
To Nene’s credit, Aoi is trying to distract Nene from her moment of vulnerability here, but it’s sad that it works so well.
“Is this a popular girl skill?” Aoi’s personal mannerisms, no matter how distinct are always connected to that of a “popular girl” in Nene’s head. Is not malicious, but it shows ‘popular girl’ and ‘my best friend Aoi’ are interconnected in her head.
“Is this how you win men over, Aoi?” She doesn’t even suspect that Aoi isn’t a fan of all this attention, that unlike her, Aoi doesn’t want to ‘win over’ any of the boys, even after Akane explicitly told Nene this attention is a problem in chap 24.
Aoi is aware of Nene’s simple view of her. It’s hard not to.
That’s why she wasn’t honest in chapter 96.
We all noticed how scared she was of Nene’s reaction, she even flinched when she went to apologize
But Nene doesn’t ask for an explanation of why Aoi did it, she doesn’t address what happened, she doesn’t want to know about any of Aoi’s problems, truly just chalking Aoi’s actions as “Not Aoi” and being done with this to have her cute bubbly friend back;
So Aoi doesn’t address it either.
Aoi is super relieved that she isn’t outright hated.
She doesn’t go over her emotions about the events, you can feel Aoi’s walls coming back: She falls back to her friendly and cute persona.
She wasn’t putting hearts and flowers in her speech before her apology to Nene.
And Aoi may be naturally cute, a girl that enjoys cute clothes and using cute speech, but she never talks with hearts and flowers when she is vulnerable and honest about her feelings.
We can see how her speech ties with her vulnerability best when she talk cutely with Hanako on the far shore train to distract herself from her bleak situation, but the moment she shares her honest view on Akane her tone change, she drops it.
Aoi is genuinely happy that Nene still sees her as a friend, but when she say she is fine on chapter 96, she goes over the events without adding any personal thoughts, and change the topic the moment she finish giving exposition. Something Nene accepts and doesn’t question further.
Once more, she is giving Nene the perfect problem-less cute friend Nene wants, and their talk feels superficial.
Akane behavior changed drastically after Aoi’s rescue (no confessions, no compliments every second, more physical contact, and so on,) because he confronted her, forced Aoi to open up, and listened to what was the problem, what he had been doing wrong, and did his best to adapt accordingly: He took her off her pedestal while still showing her the attention and affection she craves.
Nene’s behavior is exactly the same because she likes what they have, and she refuses to change it: Aoi is the same cutesy popular queen as always so she is also the same Nene as always. Their major arc did not change their dynamic in the slightest.
She truly considers Aoi a dear friend, but an unchanging one.
She blinds herself to Aoi’s problems, so she can’t confront Aoi, and Aoi is too cowardly to have an honest talk with Nene that she is convinced could lead to Nene hating her.
They are in a stalemate where Aoi can’t be completely honest with Nene (with far more than Aoi losing feeling in her right hand) and I hope something changes.
I’m going to elaborate on a recent reblog of mine here and say that the “hot take” that Kou is Nene’s best friend instead of Aoi is merely a headcanon, it has no grounding in canon. It holds about as much weight as saying that Teru is Aoi’s best friend instead of Akane, or that Hanako is Kou’s best friend instead of Yokoo and Satou
It’s perfectly fine to have headcanons, I have a ton of them. But it becomes a reading comprehension issue when fanon begins to distort your interpretation of canon. Nene and Kou’s friendship is very beloved in fanon, which leads many fans to overlook any flaws they have in canon (which used to happen with Aoinene a lot). There is also an issue of fans failing to understand that multiple things can be true at once. They recognize that Aoi and Nene’s friendship has faults, and so they characterize their entire dynamic as bad rather than looking at the full scope of things and seeing that their friendship has a lot of good factors too. From what I’ve seen, most fandom analysts seem to be capable of seeing all sides of Aoinene’s dynamic, but the fans who don’t do a lot of analyzing take those points out of context and end up misinterpreting the manga
Let me point out some canon things about both of these dynamics to better explain my point:
• Aoi and Nene have known each other since junior high, Kou and Nene have known each other a couple months at most
• Kou and Nene have been through a lot together because they’re both main characters, and so we see them paired up often. They hang out together after school and team up when a threat appears
• Nene and Aoi also hang out after school for gardening club
• Many of Nene’s character motivations are driven by wanting to protect Aoi. Chasing after her during the Misaki Stairs arc and during the Grim Reaper arc, trying to get her back during the Severance arc, etc. Aoi’s motives are also largely driven by her fear of losing Nene
• Kou’s motives center largely around protecting Nene, but we don’t really see her express that same concern for him. Whereas Aoi and Nene are both somewhat driven by each other, Kou’s desire to protect Nene is largely one-sided (keep in mind that for all three of these characters, their main goals are driven by their love interests so the friendship stuff will take somewhat of a backseat)
• Nene consistently refers to Aoi as her best friend, but never Kou
• Nene overlooks things about both Aoi and Kou. From Nene’s pov, Aoi is this perfect popular girl. Also from Nene’s pov, Kou is her awkward friend. Neither Aoi nor Kou are given much depth until we see things from their pov rather than Nene’s (note- this happens much sooner for Kou since he’s our tritagonist)
• Nene and Aoi are mentioned to hang out together outside of school. They go to the beach every summer and in the karaoke chapter it was mentioned that they’ve done karaoke together. We don’t really see Kou and Nene hang out on their own much unless they’re pushed together by the plot, Hanako is almost always with them (aside from the donut chapter where they hanging out together was still done for Hanako’s benefit)
• Nene notices things about Aoi that no one else does, like that she doesn’t talk about herself much and that she puts a lot of effort into gardening
• Aoi buys snacks to share with Nene at school
So like, if we look at the canon material, it is very obvious that Aoi and Nene are meant to be “best” friends, whereas Kou and Nene are just good friends. Ofc those labels are a bit silly, I feel kinda dumb having to argue this, but for some reason a lot of fans are very insistent on Kou being Nene’s BFF instead of Aoi. I get why fans are more attached to Kou and Nene’s dynamic, as I said they get wayyyy more screen time than Nene and Aoi. But it’s still weird to me that fans use them to downplay Aoinene’s friendship. Both those duos have good and bad sides to their relationships, and it does them both a disservice to portray one as 100% good and the other as 100% bad or less than
And also why are some of ya’ll so pressed that Nene’s best friend is a woman instead of a man. What do ya’ll have against female friendship
