Summary: The Doctor and the fam are hanging out on the TARDIS one day when they realise they haven’t seen you or The Master all day, none of them quite expect the sight that greets them when they find you.
Warnings: none
A/N: Reader is gender neutral in this. Also yay! I finally have time to write and post! I have a lot of fics planned, so hopefully I’ll be able to find the time to write them over winter break, tho I do have a shit ton of uni work still to do 😅
It was quiet, that wasn’t completely unusual on the TARDIS, but considering the recent addition of The Master to Team TARDIS it had The Doctor on edge. He’d begrudgingly joined them on their adventures after The Doctor had come across him moping about at the edge of a deserted galaxy, The Master hadn’t even been destroying anything, he was just sitting all alone on what he’d called an unimportant planet. The Doctor, of course, had been concerned by his uncharacteristic behaviour and had forced encouraged him to join them aboard the TARDIS. Understandably, her fam had objected, especially after he started to occupy himself by finding as many ways to inconvenience her friends as possible.
It had been eight months since The Master had joined them, and he had yet to stop annoying Graham, Ryan and Yaz - despite the numerous interventions and talks she had had with him about it. Much to The Doctor’s surprise, she never found you complaining about The Master’s antics, though she had suspected that he had developed a bit of a soft spot for you. After all, you had been the first out of her friends to welcome him - probably helped by the fact that you joined the group after The Master revealed himself, and thus only met him eight months back.
Recently The Doctor realised that she’d grown used to this new normal, that she was used to the occasional yelling of her friends after The Master had yet again hid half of their clothes, or simply jump-scared them - often accompanied by The Master’s maniacal laughter. However, she had yet to hear anything like that this morning, not one complaint about missing items from her fam, not one cackle out of The Master, she hadn’t even seen anyone all morning.
It was almost peaceful.
Which definitely meant that something was wrong.
Quickly The Doctor got up, abandoned her tools, and headed in the direction of the kitchen. It was about lunchtime, which meant that her friends would probably be gathered together making food, she just hoped that one of them would have seen The Master. Of course, she’d usually just ask the TARDIS where he was, but the circuits she’d been upgrading were the internal communication circuits, so that was currently out of the question.
“FAM!” The Doctor exclaimed as soon as she rounded the corner, standing dramatically in the doorway to the kitchen.
All of her friends had startled as soon as she appeared, it made her feel bad, but she currently had more pressing matters to focus on.
“Have any of you seen The Master today?!”
“…uh, no?” Ryan was the first to answer, still looking a little shocked from her entrance but trying to play it cool.
Graham took a dramatic sigh before answering, “Not yet luckily.”
“I haven’t either, why’re you asking?” Yaz replied, pausing making her lunch and turning all of her attention to The Doctor.
“It’s quiet, too quiet, and I haven’t seen him since last night. Which most likely means that he’s up to something.”
Graham groaned, “Why do we have to assume he’s up to something? Can’t we at least wait until after lunch to assume he’s doing something evil?”
The Doctor simply gave him a look, causing him to groan again, though he put his sandwich down. However she was quickly distracted by a nagging feeling in the back of her mind, she was missing something, something obvious. She looked back at her friends, and then she realised.
“Where’s Y/N?”
Her friends seemed to only notice your absence once it was pointed out, all looking around the room before looking back at The Doctor with blank faces.
“I haven’t seen them since last night.” Yaz told her.
“Me neither.” Ryan and Graham agreed with her.
Suddenly The Doctor felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. You were clearly The Master’s favourite out of the fam, what if he’d done something to you? Naively, The Doctor had hoped he was developing a soft spot for you - but what if it was simply an obsession? What if this had been his plan all along, to get close enough to harm you?
The fam seemed to come to a similar conclusion, horror dawning on all their faces.
“You don’t think-“
The Doctor didn’t give Ryan an answer, just turned around and ran through the TARDIS halls. She’d been at the TARDIS console most of the night, so at least she knew the two of you were still on board. Her first instinct was to head to the library, both you and The Master spent a fair amount of time there, it would have been the perfect place for an ambush.
The Doctor slowed once she entered the library, and she could hear the footsteps of her fam slow down as well. The library was surprisingly quiet as well, but The Doctor was still on edge. The fam followed her and she weaved her way through the aisles, coming to a sudden stop right before the rows of bookshelves gave way to one of the reading areas.
Nothing could have prepared her for the sight that greeted them. On one of the plush purple sofas The Master was laying down, fast asleep. That in itself would have been enough to shock The Doctor. However he wasn’t alone, you were laying next to him, curled into his side and fast asleep as well.
Huh.
The Doctor had known that The Master was developing a soft spot for you, but she definitely didn’t suspect anything like this. It was almost cute.
“Are they- Are they actually cuddling?” Graham was the first to speak, slightly startling the rest of them despite his voice being barely above a whisper.
“Uhhh… yeah, certainly seems like it.”
“Does anyone else think this is horrifying yet adorable?” Yaz queried, gaining agreement from the rest of them. “Glad it’s not just me.”
“What do we do? Do we wake them up?” Ryan asked.
“Yeah, what if he’s done that hypno- whatsit on Y/N?” Graham butted in.
“Hypnotism, I mean it would be a very odd thing to hypnotise Y/N to do, but we can’t rule it out I suppose.” The Doctor’s thoughts were zipping around in her brains, desperately trying to find all the signs she missed.
And there was so much she missed.
The Master’s ‘practical jokes’ had been lessening lately - both in frequency and maliciousness. The Doctor had chalked this up to him finally starting to settle in properly, but maybe that was the result of him spending more time with you? She hadn’t seen you around as much either, but with four humans plus The Master on board, she had hardly noticed. Then, the most obvious, there was the fact that the two of you had started to pair off more on adventures. Honestly, she had just thought that you were becoming good friends!
Maybe you were just friends? After all, friends were allowed to hug each other. Sure, the position you were in definitely leant more towards romantic entanglement rather than platonic, but that didn’t always mean something.
Just when The Doctor was about to reply, she and the fam were distracted by movement on the couch. You stretched slightly, but then snuggled even closer to The Master, your face smushing into his neck as you smiled. In turn The Master hummed contentedly, somehow bringing you even closer and wrapping his arms around you protectively. The Doctor could have sworn she saw a smile on his face.
Okay, probably not just friends.
The Doctor didn’t know what to do, she hadn’t considered this possibility. Regrettably, she was not prepared for The Master being romantically involved with you at all, which meant that she needed time to think. Putting a finger up to her lips, she turned to her companions and gestured for them to return the way they had came. For now, you and The Master had no clue that the rest of them knew about whatever was going on between the two of you. So, she had time to think, to observe the two of you, to find out if he was hypnotising or manipulating you, or if whatever this was was something genuine on both your parts.
Once they were back out in the hallway The Doctor explained everything to the other members of the fam, all of them agreeing to keep an eye on the two of you. The Doctor then walked off back to the console room, she needed to be alone with her thoughts for a little while.
——
You were warm and cosy, that was what you registered first. Of course, it wasn’t unusual to be warm and cosy when you woke up, but these days it was a new constant in your life, all because of one (alien) man. The Master.
When he had come onboard the TARDIS eight months ago you, you would have never imagined how your relationship developed. He’d pissed you off at first, especially since most of his ‘pranks’ had been directed at you. Once he had decided to take all of your jumpers and hoodies, just after you had returned from a particularly frosty adventure in Antarctica, causing you to confront him.
“You!” You sneered accusingly at The Master, who was lounged on one of the sofas in the library.
He placed his book down and raised an eyebrow, “Can I help you?”
“Give me my jumpers and hoodies back, now.” You tried to sound demanding, but you were still shivering from the lingering cold.
“No.” He smirked at you.
“No? What do you mean no?! I’m cold! I need layers to keep warm!” You pouted at him, unable to keep up the scary demeanour.
He chuckled slightly, “Well, that’s easily solved.” And then he lifted up the blanket that was laying over him and shuffled to make room for you.
You simply stood there in shock, not quite believing that The Master of all beings was inviting you to cuddle with him!
“Come on love, if you stand there any longer you’ll probably end up freezing to death.”
Hesitantly, you stepped closer and closer to the sofa, until you were stood inches from The Master, looking down at him. He offered his hand to you, and you gave him yours in turn. Then, slowly, he pulled you down into his hold, and covered you with the blanket. With his warmth enveloping you, you soon stopped shivering, though you didn’t leave him.
After that, cuddles in the TARDIS library became a regular for the two of you, soon turning into cuddles and kisses in your respective bedrooms, sneakily holding hands on adventures, and being there for one another behind closed doors. You loved him, not that you had told him yet, but you truly did.
Part of your hesitancy towards telling him was due to the fact that you were still keeping your relationship hidden from your friends. It wasn’t as though you didn’t want to tell your friends, you just didn’t know how to tell them, and you were scared for their reactions.
Pushing those thoughts to the back of your mind you stretched and finally opened your eyes. Your first sight was The Master, still asleep, and you took a moment to appreciate him. Then you took in your surroundings and your heart leapt in your chest as you realised you had fallen asleep in the library, where anyone could have walked in.
“Master.” You shook him slightly.
He woke with a questioning hum, sleepy eyes looking at you with curiosity.
“We fell asleep in the library.” You half-whispered.
“…And?” The Master replied.
“Anyone could have walked in and seen us!”
“Mm, but they didn’t love, otherwise we would have been woken up.” He told you, his voice still rough from sleep, as he pulled you closer again.
You didn’t reply, instead giving him a worried look. He sighed and sat up, moving you with him.
“It’ll be okay love,” He cupped your face with both his hands, observing you until he seemed satisfied that you believed his words - and you did believe him, even if you needed a little reassurance sometimes.
The Master smiled at you, “Come on, shower and breakfast is in order.”
“More like brunch by now.” You retorted, checking your phone to see that it was already past 11am.
The Master chuckled and lead you out of the library.
——
In the past week, nothing out of the ordinary had happened, at least nothing that was out of the ordinary for your life. A couple of trips back in time, a couple adventures on distant planets, an ungodly amount of running, and sneaking into The Master’s bedroom once your friends had gone to sleep each night. Yep, completely ordinary week for you.
Which is why your friends’ strange behaviour made absolutely no sense.
You couldn’t quite explain it, but they’d been acting weird around you, jumpy as though they were keeping something from you. However there weren’t any holidays coming up and your birthday had already passed this year, so their weird behaviour was worrying you.
You’d tried asking all of them about it individually, The Doctor had pretended not to hear while doing some engineering on the TARDIS, and the other three had come up with various excuses that you didn’t believe. It frustrated you that something was wrong but they weren’t willing to tell you. Luckily, you still had one person on the TARDIS who wasn’t acting weird around you.
You knocked on The Master’s door and let yourself in. His living space was becoming one of your favourite rooms on the TARDIS, it had dark wood panelled walls and an overall regal look with lots of purple accents. There was also a lot of clutter, mostly little projects and pieces for said projects. Occasionally you’d ask him about whatever he was working on, and he’d talk you through his whole process (secretly you’d only ask him to hear his voice, but he didn’t need to know that). He’d also gotten used to you being in his rooms, hence why you walked right in.
The Master was sat on his couch, reading a book that he placed on an end table once he saw you.
“Hello, love.” He grinned at you, making room for you to sit down next to him.
“Hello Master,” You smiled at him, cuddling into his chest as he wrapped an arm around you.
He hummed and nuzzled your neck, “How are you today, my darling?”
The combination of the pet name and him speaking so close to your ear caused you to shiver. It almost got rid of the knot of worry that had nestled itself in you, almost. The Master seemed to notice something was wrong, as he pulled back slightly so he could look at you properly.
“Have you noticed the others being kind of… off, this week?” You queried, not quite knowing how to word it.
“Quite honestly love, I don’t pay much attention to anyone else on this ship.” He smirked, and you rolled your eyes.
“You and I both know that’s not true, you may not like Ryan, Graham or Yaz, but they’re still my friends - which means you still keep an eye on them at the very least.” You retorted.
“Mmm, you know me so well.” He leaned in to kiss your cheek, causing you to relax further into him.
It had surprised you, at first, just how physically affectionate The Master was. You’d assumed after the first cuddle session that it would be a one off, that he’d kill you if you ever mentioned it to anyone (not that they’d believe you), but he’d only gotten more and more cuddly as your relationship had grown.
“Okay, yes, I have noticed they were behaving stranger than usual this week. I’d just assumed it was something to do with me, and I didn’t care enough to find out what.”
“Definitely not just you, they’ve been weird around me too. I tried to ask them what was wrong but they all made up little excuses and scurried off. The Doctor even pretended she didn’t hear me!” You exclaimed gesturing wildly, “I just- they’re my friends, and I’ve obviously done something to upset them, but I don’t know what!”
You flopped back into The Master’s hold and sighed, for a moment he simply held you close, rubbing circles on your back.
“Look, whatever it is they’ll probably get over it soon enough. It can’t be that bad if they’re still talking to you.” He reassured you, already helping you feel much calmer than you had all week.
“But, what if they found out about us somehow?”
“The Doctor probably would have kicked me off the TARDIS already love, and your friends would have helped her.” You glared at him, unamused.
“No they wouldn’t, I wouldn’t let them.”
The Master’s expression softened.
“Of course not love, I’m just teasing. I’m sure that whatever it is will be forgotten about soon enough.”
“Hopefully.”
“In the meantime, would it perhaps help if I could take your mind off them for a while?” The Master suggested, leaning in to kiss you again.
“Hmm, I think it might.” You replied with a giggle, kissing him back eagerly.
——
As The Master had predicted, your friends soon went back to normal. You still had no clue what had caused their strange behaviour, but you didn’t bring it up again. Instead you focused on your adventures and your relationship with The Master, separately of course.
After a few rather hectic adventures, The Doctor had decided that you all needed a bit of a break, in the form of a 38th century cruise spaceship. The Doctor had explained that there were many fun activities taking place on the cruise, but the main one was the ball. An evening of dancing, eating and socialising to help you and the rest of the fam relax a bit.
You were all looking forward to it, and you could tell The Master was excited too - not that he acted like it. Sometimes you thought he tried a little too hard to protect his reputation, but then you remembered just how lucky you were that he allowed you to see the real him when so many others were denied the chance.
Currently, you were in the TARDIS wardrobe getting ready for the ball with the others. You had elected to wear a simple black suit with a dark purple lining and accents, partially because you liked the look of it, and partially because you thought it would go with whatever The Master decided to wear. You may be hiding your relationship from your friends, but you still wanted the subtle sign that he was yours (and you were his in turn). Exiting your dressing room you smiled at Graham and The Doctor, both wearing suits as well.
“Nice suit, it suits you!” The Doctor told you, looking very pleased with her terrible pun.
You rolled your eyes and huffed out a laugh while Graham simply groaned. Ryan exited next, wearing a suit as well, tho it had a neon-coloured cubic pattern speckled over it. Then The Master exited.
He was wearing a black suit as well, though it had flowers embroidered in dark grey thread on it. He’d paired it with a reddish-purple waistcoat, a matching bow tie, and a dark grey shirt. He looked stunning, and in that moment you found yourself yearning for the freedom of a more public relationship, simply so you could tell him just how good you thought he looked. Instead you raked your eyes over his body and gave him an appreciative look, knowing he’d understand.
To your surprise he seemed to do the same to you, his eyes studying your appearance in a way that made you blush slightly, and giving you a far more suggestive look than you had given him. He was usually very subtle about your relationship, especially in front of The Doctor, but you weren’t going to complain in this moment.
Just then Yaz walked out of her dressing room, though your eyes lingered on The Master for a few moments longer. Taking advantage of the distraction, The Master winked at you, causing you to grin coyly before finally turning your attention to Yaz.
She was wearing a lovely rose gold coloured dress, it wasn’t overly flashy or attention grabbing, but you knew she’d still get a fair amount of admiration at the ball (though you suspected most of that would come from The Doctor).
The Doctor soon lead you all out of the wardrobe into the console room, piloting to your destination. You gazed in awe at the ship once the doors opened, it was decorated in a baroque-esque style and almost made you feel as though you didn’t quite belong in the ship. Still, you followed The Doctor through the hallways until you came to the ballroom. It was stunning, the room itself had the same baroque-esque look to it, though it was even more extravagant. Instinctively, you looked back to The Master and grinned, gaining a soft smile in return.
“Alright fam, all the food and drink should be good for human consumption - but if you’re unsure just ask! Let’s say two hours of mingling, then we’ll reconvene back here?” The Doctor addressed you all, gaining agreement before everyone started to dart off in different directions.
You had hoped that you would get some time alone with The Master, unfortunately it seemed that Yaz had other ideas as she invited you over to the bar with her to get some drinks.
An hour later you had finally managed to ditch your friends, it wasn’t as though you didn’t like hanging out with them - of course you did - but at an event like this you’d rather spend time with your partner. Once you found him you felt yourself relax, previously unaware of how tense you’d been without him. Larger social gatherings like this definitely made you anxious, but having The Master by your side helped a lot, mostly because you knew he’d never let anything bad happen to you.
He smiled at you and then nodded his head to the entrance. Intrigued, you followed him as he lead you out of the ballroom.
“Where are we going, Master?” You queried, grabbing a hold of his hand.
“You’ll see.”
Eventually the two of you came to another ballroom, though it was completely empty. There was a layer of dust over every surface, giving you the impression that this room hadn’t been used in a long time. The distant music from the party echoed through the halls into the ballroom giving it a haunted feel, but not a creepy kind of haunted, mor like the sort of haunted feeling you got from a placed that had so clearly been loved once, as though that love and warmth was still living in the walls.
After looking around the room you turned back to The Master, only to find him stood with one hand behind his back and the other stretched out towards you.
“Care to dance, my love?” He asked you charmingly, causing you to blush wildly.
“Of course, Master.” You replied, taking his hand eagerly and grinning.
He pulled you in close and began to guide you through a waltz, in time with the music from the ballroom. In that moment you felt as though you could spend the rest of your life with him, even if it was just the two of you alone in the universe, you’d always feel content by his side. That realisation seemed to finally give you the boost of confidence you had needed.
“I love you.”
The Master stopped dancing, looking at you with a mix of shock and awe.
“What?”
“I love you, Master. You don’t have to say it back, I just wanted you to know.” You told him truthfully.
“I love you too, so much.” He replied, grinning wide with tears in his eyes.
The Master leant in to kiss you, and your lips met his halfway. You’d kissed him hundreds of times before, but this time felt different, it felt perfect. The two of you started dancing again, still keeping in time with the music but completely lost in each other’s presence. The Master moved his arm around your waist, you rested your head on his shoulder and let the world fall away around the two of you.
——
The Doctor had been keeping a close eye on both you and The Master in the past few weeks, and to her surprise she had seen nothing sinister, nothing potentially dangerous. In fact, all she had seen was subtle glances and secretive smiles between the two of you, she’d caught both of you looking at the other while they were distracted, and neither of you had anything but love to look at each other with. On one occasion she’d even seen the two of you holding hands when faced with a particularly terrifying enemy!
The Doctor had known The Master for nearly his whole life, and therefore always knew that he had a softer side to him. What she never expected was for him to develop feelings for a human, considering his general hatred of Earth’s sentient inhabitants. She’d had her reservations at first, knowing full well that whatever was going on between the two of you could just be another one of his schemes. However, given how secretive the two of you were, and all the little interactions she’d witnessed, The Doctor believed that The Master had genuine feelings for you.
Nevertheless, The Doctor had continued to keep on the eye on the two of you - just in case. Therefore, she noticed pretty quickly when the both of you disappeared from the ballroom. At the end of the day The Master was still The Master, no matter how much progress he had seemed to make these past few months. Luckily, the rest of her fam had noticed your disappearances as well.
“Come on fam.” The Doctor started to lead the way out of the ballroom.
“Doc, are you sure we should go looking for them, I mean what if they’re, y’know…” Graham asked, looking rather uncomfortable.
“Snogging?” Ryan snickered.
“Yes, we should, because there’s still a chance that Y/N could be in danger.”
The Doctor continued on through the halls, looking through each of the rooms to see if she could find the two of you. Finally, she came to another ballroom and was surprised by the sight of the two of you slow dancing in each other’s arms.
Well, at least you weren’t in danger.
It seemed that she had sped off a bit too quickly, as Ryan, Graham and Yaz soon came jogging up behind her, startling both you and The Master (who hadn’t noticed her approach). For a few moments everyone stood and stared at each other in complete silence, no one knowing quite what to do. The Master still had his arms around your waist, and The Doctor could see that he tightened his grip on you, as though he was afraid you’d be taken from him.
You coughed, gaining everyone’s attention, “So, uhhh..”
“You two are together?” Yaz asked.
You looked to The Master and smiled softly, getting a small smile in return. “Yeah, we are.”
There was another moment of awkward silence before you spoke up again. “Wait, none of you seem surprised?”
“We caught you two sleeping on one of the library couches a couple weeks back.” Ryan told you, causing you to playfully hit The Master’s arm.
“I told you!”
The Master rolled his eyes, “How was I supposed to know? I was asleep as well!” He laughed along with you.
“Is that why you were all acting weird around us?” You queried.
“Yeah, sorry about that cockle, it was just a bit of a shock is all. Still is to be honest!” Graham chuckled, putting all of you at ease.
“How long have the two of you been together anyway?” Yaz asked.
“Uhh, just over four months now - right?” The Master nodded in response to your question.
“How did you two manage to keep it a secret for so long?” Ryan exclaimed.
“Lots of sneaking around, though it does help when your partner has alien hearing that’s at least 10 times better than humans’.” You replied, smirking in a way that showed how much you liked showing off about The Master.
On the way back to the TARDIS Graham, Ryan and Yaz asked you quite a lot of questions, most of which you answered happily while holding The Master’s hand. Despite having watched the two of you for the past few weeks to make sure this wasn’t just another one of The Master’s schemes, The Doctor finally felt as though she could relax. You were safe, and both of you were happy, she was glad that The Master had managed to find someone who he could be himself around, someone who he could love. Stopping just outside the TARDIS doors, you turned back to look at her.
“You’re alright with this, yeah?”
“You’re happy?” The Doctor asked, addressing the both of you.
“Very.” You replied, while The Master simply looked down at you and nodded.
“Good, I’m happy for you - both of you.” She made sure to address The Master, who looked slightly surprised before he rolled his eyes at her.
“Now, movie night?” She suggested, gaining nods of approval from everyone.
It was going to take some getting used to, but The Doctor was truly happy for the both of you. Later that evening she looked over to see that you had both fallen asleep in each other’s arms, she smiled looking at the two of you, glad you had each other.

------------------------------------------------------------
The Master didn’t like being seen as weak, but he knew that you were his weakness. He knew that he needed you. You were his other half. You made him better. You never once asked him to change, despite the fact that you never wanted to kill or manipulate people or planets. You were always there for The Master when he was stressed about his plans for universal domination or when something he was tinkering with wouldn’t work out just right. The Master needed you, always and forever. He needs you.
It was so easy for The Master to be filled with hate. He loved hurting people, he loved revenge plans and plots, but he never felt hate towards you. He loved you. The Master loved you more than the hate that filled his life before the two of you were together. He hadn’t told you his feelings yet. He was always bad at that, telling you his feelings, but you always treated him with kindness and patience. You never pressured him to do things out of his comfort zone. That just made The Master love you more, though.
Being in love with you made The Master anxious. He couldn’t remember being in love before. He might have been, but it was easy for him to imagine that he had never been in love before. When he first met you, he was overcome with a wave of protectiveness all aimed at you. He hated the fact that The Doctor spent their time picking up random Humans, but mostly out of jealousy about the fact that he didn’t have anyone. However, The Master hated seeing you with The Doctor because he knew that she would get you killed. The Master couldn’t understand why he felt such protective feelings, but he decided to not ignore them and to seek you out.
Over the months of the two of you interacting, both of you grew closer and you left The Doctor, under conditions, of course. You accompanied The Master as a friend, but that obviously expanded to a more romantic connection. Now the two of you were months deep into a committed relationship, but he was unable to tell you how much he loved you. The Master wished to be better for you, though. You were always there for him, and sometimes he felt as if he needed to be there for you more than he was. Especially to be there for you in more emotional and emotionally intimate circumstances.
The Master looked over his console to check the time. It was about five in the morning, Earth time, so you would still be fast asleep. The new machine he was trying to build wasn’t working out as he wished it to, and his new plans had a massive plot hole in them that he didn’t know how to fill. He was incredibly frustrated, and his brain felt as if there was a fog shifting heavily through it, clouding over the information he was trying to seek out.
The Master didn’t require as much sleep as you did, but, in the past, cuddling with you always calmed him down and helped him think. Either wrapping himself around you or being held securely by you somehow managed to always cause things to fall into place in his sometimes disordered mind. So, The Master cleared up his little work area as much as he could and walked down to your shared bedroom.
The Master slowly and quietly entered the room, so as to not wake you. Upon seeing you, The Master smiled. You were cocooned, in the middle of the bed, in the purple comforter that the two of you shared. Your head was laying more on his pillow than yours. You looked incredibly content. The Master silently took his shoes off, then his clothes, leaving him in only his underwear and socks, then climbed in beside you.
You were only wearing his old black hoodie, from one of The Master's previous regenerations, and underwear. Your skin felt cold under The Master’s touch, you should have worn some pyjama pants or socks or something warmer. The Master cuddled up behind you, nuzzling his face into your neck. He brought his arm around you and placed his hand over your heart to feel it beating. He loved doing this. It reminded him that you were alive and that you were real and with him right now.
You stirred a bit because of the warmth of his hand on your chest and mumbled some incoherent words and phrases. The Master tried to hold you a bit tighter in an attempt to not wake you. It worked for a moment; the pressure of The Master’s body around you brought you comfort in your sleep. However, you stirred out of your sleep due to the change in temperature of the bed.
“Master?” You tried to turn around, but The Master’s arms were placed firmly around you.
“Go back to sleep, love. It’s too early for a Human like yourself to be awake.” You were still tired, but you loved being in his presence, so naturally, you wanted to keep talking to him.
“When do you come to bed?”
“Only a couple of minutes ago. I tried to not wake you up.”
“You’re so warm, though.” You successfully turned around in The Master’s arms this time, after prying his arms off you momentarily. Your eyes were still closed, but you moved to kiss his face haphazardly. The Master smiled and chuckled at your sleepy state, and he pulled you closer to his chest until you were practically laying on top of him.
You kissed The Master’s face, neck and chest, and any part of him that you could reach, every once in a while, as you asked him some questions about his day. The two of you had spent the majority of the day apart because he was busy with his newest scheme, and you were trying to plan a party for your best friend on Earth.
“What were you doing? Did you finish that one thing?” The Master was shocked that you could form somewhat coherent sentences when it was obvious that you were still in a sleepy haze, but he was willing to talk until the two of you became so sleepy you couldn’t speak anymore.
“No, I think I tried too hard to push a thought-cube into a gravity converter and the whole machine I was working on didn’t appreciate the change either.” The Master caressed his hands up and down your back beneath the hoodie you stole.
“I’m sorry. I’m sure you will think of something. You always do. You are so smart.” The Master smiled as he felt you nuzzle into his neck again. His feelings were bubbling up again. He didn’t feel like he could hide them anymore. And if you didn’t respond well, you probably wouldn’t remember because of how tired you were. So, The Master thought that this would be the best time to reveal his true feelings.
“Can I tell you something, Y/n?”
“You can tell me everything, Master. I will always be here for you.”
“I love you.” You opened your eyes and smiled up at The Master.
“I love you, too. I have for a while.”
“Me too. I should have told you earlier.”
“Yes! Yes, you should have!” You suddenly popped up from where you were cuddling into The Master’s chest and pecked him on the lips. The Master chuckled, kissed you again and then returned the two of you back to a cuddling position.
“Let’s go to sleep, yeah? Then see where the new day takes us?”
“That sounds lovely, Master.” You shifted slightly to kiss his cheek one more time, and then you nuzzled back into his chest, occasionally kissing him there before eventually falling asleep. The Master fell asleep soon after you, holding you tightly to his body.
The two of you slept soundly until around midday in Earth time. Neither of you always got the privilege of a quiet, domestic life together. You both enjoyed your hectic life in space, travelling throughout time and hopping from adventure to adventure. But both of you appreciated the softer moments of your lives together, given how rarely they happened. You loved each other so much, and sometimes spending a morning in bed together was all the two of you needed to make a day memorable.
These are the last 24h with Jodie as the doctor.
Reblog to give to the person you reblogged this from hot chocolate and a comfort blanket
I will be reposting my Did You Miss Me? Series on this blog eventually.
I really want to expand it to include some of the hints of The Master's presence in The Flux and The Specials. And I will obviously be including The Master's role in The Power of The Doctor.
It will be a lot to rewrite and organise so I'm not promising a specific date right now, but hopefully, I will have something soon.
I might even make two endings because I can't choose between the two ideas in my head.
But I do have one question, more about The Flux and if I understood it properly. Was The Master actually responsible for The Flux? The conversation The Doctor had with Time made me think that he was, but I could easily just have misinterpreted everything.

You could feel the Cybermasters staring at you. You knew that they now consumed the flesh of Gallifreyans, but, because of the way that their blank black eyes were following your movements, you assumed that part of their hardwire was still enticed by Humans. Or maybe the Cybermasters still retained some of their Gallifreyan memories and they did not understand why you, a Human, were the companion of The Master. Either way, you didn’t like them, and you wished that you weren’t here in their presence.
“Oh, but we have one more surprise in store for you, Doctor.” You could see from your hiding spot that The Master jumped up onto the platform where The Doctor was imprisoned. He got close to her to taunt her as he spoke. It looked as though he was looking through her, trying to see if he had already broken her or if his next act would accomplish that. Suddenly, The Master turned on his heel to look directly at you. His face was still tainted with hatred for The Doctor, but his face quickly morphed into comfort upon seeing you.
“Come forward, my love.” You looked around at the Cybermasters, some of whom were glaring at The Doctor, some followed The Master’s every move, and the others continued to watch you. You looked back at the Master. He turned slightly further to where The Doctor could not see his face, and he looked at you softly and motioned for you to come forward. You only moved a few steps forward before The Master turned to taunt The Doctor some more.
“My brave little Human, being so strong for their Master. They never aligned themselves with you, Doctor. They were always on my side. How does it feel, Doctor, knowing that someone you considered to be your friend was my companion all along.” The Doctor struggled to utter something, but she eventually managed.
“T-that’s not true.”
The Doctor’s eyes flickered to you where you had halted because a Cybermaster got too close to you, which caused you to freeze in place. The Master followed his best enemy’s eyes and saw you curling into yourself and cowering away from the closest Cybermaster.
The Master immediately rushed down the steps of the platform to you. He shooed the surrounding Cybermasters away from you. The Master brushed the palm of his hand against your cheek as a question of whether or not you were okay with him connecting with you telepathically. You nodded into The Master’s hand.
The Master placed his forehead against yours and reached his hands up to stroke your temples. You could feel him knocking on your consciousness. You let him in and instantly a wave of calm passed over you. You heard him speak in your mind.
“You are safe with me, love.”
“They scare me, Master.”
“I know, but they will never hurt you. Especially with me here to protect you.”
“But what if -”
“Shhh now, love. You have to trust me.” You fell into The Master’s arms and wrapped yourself around him. The Master quickly returned the favour and wrapped his arms around your torso tightly. You could feel him rest his head on to of yours and rub his hands up and down your back.
“I’m sorry for ruining your plans, Master.”
“You haven’t ruined anything.”
“You wanted to be intimating. Cuddling me isn’t intimidating.”
“Well, it would prove a point to The Doctor, while also getting you away from my pesky Cybermasters.”
“What do you mean?”
“Walk with me, love, please.”
The Master pried you off of him, but then tightly clasped your hand in his. The Master led you to the centre of the platform in front of the trapped Doctor and wrapped his arms around you, again. He pushed your head against his chest so the beat of his hearts could calm you. The Master then began to rub his hands up and down your back, as he did before.
“See Doctor, Y/n has always been my companion. They are my brave little Human and I am their strong Master.”
“N-no -”
“Don’t struggle, Doctor, it’s not worth it. Everything is over for you.” The Master then directed his attention back to you. He tilted your chin up with his fingers.
“Now, what should we do, my love? Entrap The Doctor in our TARDIS, destroy her here and now, or something else?” You tried to turn your head to get a glimpse of the Cybermasters, but The Master grabbed your jaw force you to look at him. This, plus the telepathic connection still being present, The Master got his answer. The Master suddenly picked you up and carried you back to his TARDIS.
“Guard The Doctor until I return. Kill her if she tried to escape and kill anyone who tries to save her. I’ll be back in a moment.” The Master stated toward the Cybermasters, who instantly jumped into action.
“Where are we going?”
“Just a little mid-scheme break in the TARDIS, my love. Then I will go back and destroy my best enemy.” The Master walked to his TARDIS, with you still in his strong arms, and piloted the two of you to a different time and a different area in space. Once The TARDIS landed, The Master then carried you to your shared bedroom and laid you down on your and The Master’s shared bed.
“What about me? What will I do?” The Master climbed into bed with you and placed a kiss on your forehead. The Master then manoeuvred you to where you were laying in his arms and facing him.
“You are so brave for me, my little Human, but I don’t want you around those pesky Cybermasters. I can feel your fear for them. I don’t want to continue to put you through that, so you will stay here in The TARDIS. Our point was fully made to The Doctor, you’re mine. You helped me show her the truth beautifully.” The Master caressed your face lovingly, trying to express all his love, care, and protectiveness for you.
“Are you sure that everything is going to be okay?”
“Everything is going to work out perfectly, my love. Now, let’s take a little nap, yeah?” You nodded, then nuzzled yourself into The Master’s torso. The Master immediately wrapped his strong arms around you and held you tightly as the two of you slept off the fear and adrenaline of the stressful situation the two of you were just in.
I am writing some notes on an upcoming fic requested by a lovely anon (thank you so much by the way because I love this idea). The fic is similar to The Snowmen/The Bells of Saint John, Eleventh Doctor/Clara storyline, but with Dhawan!Master and The Reader.
But I don’t know where to have the reader in the past be located.
I had an idea about something revolving around Guy Fawkes. Like The Master goes there for a fun relaxing trip to just burn down Parliament, but then he meets the past Reader and falls in love. The Master becomes incredibly protective over The Reader and saves them from being beheaded.
Or something revolving around Shakespeare. I was thinking about the show Will again because I miss it. So, the past Reader was the child of the owner of The Globe theatre. They help out with everything: setting up the stage, working with actors, creating the props, dealing with the bills, and sometimes even acting. The Master goes to The Globe in an attempt to destroy it because he found out that The Doctor likes Shakespeare, but then The Master sees the Reader and abandons his plans in order to spend more time with the Reader.
If anyone has any different ideas about cool things in history that the past Reader could be a part of, I would love to hear your thoughts.
The two ideas that I had have corresponding future lives. Obviously, the present Reader is different from the past Reader, but I want The Master to meet the present Reader when he was reminiscing about the past. So, they meet in a situation that references the past.
I know that I could do something closer to The Snowmen, but I don’t really want the Reader to be a copy of Clara.
Also, the anon who requested this mentioned The Phantom of The Opera, but I don’t know much about French history, other than the obvious French Revolution. But if anyone, especially the anon, wants me to do something referencing The Phantom of The Opera in this fic, please reach out or comment!
I’m really excited about this fic, or fic miniseries, but I am getting so excited that I am getting too many ideas and I can’t think properly. So, any help will be very appreciated! Thank you for listening to my ramble!

You were incredibly gifted in hiding from The Doctor, especially with The TARDIS’s help. But, of course, you didn’t really need The TARDIS’s help to hide. The Doctor had taught you how to hide from danger and monsters and rogue aliens well. He should have suspected that you would have used your newfound skill against him one day. He knew that this wasn’t a menacing act delivered by you, it was more of a tease. If you weren't so mad at him because of his timer-themed tantrum, The Doctor would have tried to persuade you into playing a game of sexy hide ‘n’ seek, that is, if he could ever gain the courage to ask you out on a date first. Or given the current circumstances, if he could find you within his labyrinthian ship and win back your affection.
The Doctor knew that this was a game to provoke something and you were winning. Every second that passed, The Doctor wished to admit so many hidden feelings to you. He also knew that he had to do something big to end this stalemate and regain your favour. The Doctor was currently sitting in his study, having just torn down his planning board dedicated to finding The Master. He made a copy of one of his favourite pictures of the two of you and nailed it to the centre of the cleared board. He prepared to plan out the best way to woo you, but he couldn’t help but become distracted by our beautiful face smiling at the camera. The Time Lord smiled sweetly at the memory.
The photo was taken by an alien couple that thought the two of you were the cutest couple they had ever seen, even though you both vehemently denied being together. Despite that, when the picture was being taken, you held onto The Doctor so tightly. You leaned against him with your whole body and your arm was wrapped around his shoulders, pulling him into you. The Doctor firmly kept his arm around your waist, but he resisted your pull completely. The Doctor noticed how your body felt against his, then, and he reconised the feelings that had been floating in his brain for some time. He leant back, almost a bit in shock, and stared in awe at your beautiful face. He couldn’t believe that it took him so long to notice how much you meant to him. That day, The Doctor knew that he was in love with you.
Your smile, in the photo and the memory, was infectious. The Doctor couldn’t stop looking at it! You were so excited and happy to be on that planet with him, exploring and existing in his world without fear or hesitation. Now that the doctor was looking at the picture more closely, he noticed something new. You could clearly see The Doctor looking longingly at your face, his eyes shining brightly with affection toward you. Looking back on it, that probably added to the alien couple’s assumption that the two of you were in love with each other, at least on The Doctor’s part. He mentally kicked himself for acting like a shy lovesick puppy, incapable of saying his feelings, but always following you around, instead of acting on his feelings, but he was determined to fix that now. The Doctor collected some strings and connected the dots between things you loved and things you and The Doctor shared together. He knew what he had to do to show that you should be with him.
The Doctor then went out on a little shopping adventure, coming back with items sold in bulk, hauling them toward his study. The Doctor told The TARDIS to keep you away from his private kitchen if you were to venture out. He did not think that you would break, but he wanted his surprise to not be spoiled in any way. True to her word, The TARDIS kept you away from The Doctor as he laid out his plan.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You were beginning to grow bored with your plan. You really cared for The Doctor, more than you had ever cared for anyone. You loved The Doctor. That was obvious now. Before the moment when you really first showed your feelings when the two of you almost kissed in his private kitchen, you had always suppressed your feelings for him. You were rerouting that action, now. Maybe if you had confessed your feelings sooner then you wouldn’t be alone in your room wallowing now.
You sat in the middle of your room, staring at a picture of you and The Doctor on a tourist planet. The picture that the alien couple that came up to the pair of you assumed that you were a couple had taken. Of course, both you and The Doctor denied their assumption. It killed you to hear him say that, but then you could clearly see in the picture how The Doctor looked at you adoringly, only adding to your confusion on whether or not The Doctor liked you. You wished that this stalemate would make The Doctor do something, but nothing had happened yet.
You recently asked The TARDIS to let you and The Doctor cross paths, but you could feel The TARDIS prohibiting and rearranging some of your adventures through her walls. You assumed that this was The Doctor not wanting to interact with you. Every moment since that fateful day when you started this stalemate was riddled with anxiety for you. You wondered if you were mistaken about shared feelings.
The Doctor was shy about his past, but you were able to wrangle out some of his stories. The weight of the other companions The Doctor had travelled with and loved ones of The Doctor plagued your mind. You would wake up early in the morning and cringe at the memory of the two of you almost kissing. Voices in your head screamed that The Doctor was uncomfortable by your actions, that you crossed the line and he only ever saw you as a friend, and now because of what you did, he would want you to leave his home, he would want you to leave his life. You knew that he was too kind and adorably awkward to ever ask you to leave, so you thought that it would be kinder to him to do it yourself.
You decided to go to the main kitchen, after multiple attempts to open your door which was somehow locked, in the hope to meet The Doctor and make some hot chocolate and maybe make some cupcakes, as well. You thought that this would prevent you from making a horrible mistake. However, your venture was halted, after The TARDIS finally let you out of your room, when you saw that a chocolate cupcake was placed outside your door, neatly settled inside a purple cupcake wrapper. You knelt down to pick up the dessert, inspecting it for any peculiarities. It appeared to be a normal Earth cupcake until you inspected the bottom of the wrapper. Lifting the cupcake above your head, you saw The Doctor’s handwriting spelling out the words ‘look to your left.’ When you did so, you saw an orderly row of cupcakes aligned along the centre of the hallway and curving around the corner of the hall, falling in line like tin soldiers.
You went back to your room to collect a couple of plates to carry and collect the cupcakes on your journey. You reached down and picked up each cupcake one by one. Like the first cupcake, each new baked good in the line had The Doctor’s handwriting on the bottom of the wrapper.
‘Please’
‘continue’
‘to’
‘follow’
‘the’
‘trail’
‘of’
‘cupcakes’
‘until’
‘you’
‘reach’
‘my’
‘private’
‘kitchen.’
There was a break in the row of cupcakes, but you could see it continuing down the hallway. In the middle of the break, there were a couple of large baking trays with Hersey’s chocolate Kisses, weirdly one of your’s and The Doctor’s favourite chocolates to share, spelling out the words, ‘I know that you are incredibly considerate, but you don’t have to collect all of the cupcakes. There are too many for you to carry.’ You felt conflicted leaving the treats, but the plates you were holding were already covered in cupcakes. And your arms were now becoming quite tired.
Once you reached The Doctor’s study, the door was wide open, the row of cupcakes continuing straight through the study and into the kitchen. You crept into the room slowly, unaware of what you were about to encounter. You rounded the corner, stopping briefly to look at and reminisce over where the two of you almost kissed for the first time, before seeing a smorgasbord of baking confections and a tower of baking timers, including one that looked surprisingly similar to the baking timer that your aunt had gifted you. The Doctor was standing bashfully amongst the food and objects, he kept looking for happiness in your eyes to reassure him. You were more in wonder because of everything before you, but you smiled brightly when you finally met his gaze.
“I bought you a replacement timer.” The Doctor turned around and picked up a timer before handing it to you, your hands brushing against his as he placed the item in your hands.
“Like the one your aunt bought you. I’m sorry for throwing your property into a supernova. I had no right to do so. Even if it did upset me greatly.” You smiled at his gift, but also at his ramblings. He had no right to be this adorable.
“About that, do you want to explain all of this?” You smirked cheekily, placing the timer down on a surprisingly free space on the table you stepped closer to The Doctor, who followed your movements and stepped even closer to you. You really wanted to know why The Doctor threw all of those timers away, why he was doing this now, and what he felt about that fateful day in this kitchen.
“I think you know, Y/n. You are the smartest person I know.” He tilted his head and smiled to hide his fear. He knew that he loved you, but he wondered if you felt the same way. He assumed that you did, but that could be a dangerous assumption if he was proven wrong.
“I want to hear you say it, Doctor.” His face fell a bit at the confrontation, but you stepped even closer to him and clasped his hands in yours, you gave his hands a reassuring squeeze. He looked down and smiled at your intertwined hands giving him the confidence to speak his mind.
“I love you, Y/n and I just want to be with you. I am so tired of this isolation; I want to be with you. You are the best person in my life.” With each statement, The Doctor moved closer to where his forehead was practically touching yours. He bumped his nose against yours before looking deep into your eyes to try and read your face, his eyes were large and pleading for you to take the news well. But you ripped your hands from his. The Doctor was about to apologise for being so forward and rude. But then you hugged him tighter than you had ever before. One of your hands went up and ran through his styled hair and the other gripped the soft, yet slightly scratchy, material of The Doctor’s sweater vest. The Doctor’s head instinctively fell to your shoulder.
“Oh, Doctor! I wish you had told me sooner! Think of what we could have been doing if we actually had the guts to tell each other how we actually felt!”
“How do you feel, Y/n?” He sounded so fearful, and you could feel him shaking in your arms.
“I love you, Doctor,” you whispered into his ear to make it more personal, “I have loved you since I met you. And I want nothing more than to be with you!” The Doctor finally hugged you back, tighter than you were hugging him, and he excitedly picked you up and spun around a couple of times with you safely in his arms. He quickly placed you back down on the ground and cupped your face with both of his hands and stared deeply into your eyes once again, his warm orbs glowing with love. He finally saw you returning his feelings, a couple of happy tears escaping both of your eyes. The Doctor wiped your tears away and lent forward to press a passionate kiss on your lips. The two of you moved seamlessly, clinging to each other. He tried to pull away, being a bit flustered, but you quickly placed a hand on the back of his neck in order to deepen the kiss.
The two of you stayed like this for a while before you both had to separate to catch your breath. The two of you giggled in flustered excitement when you caught each other’s gaze. You moved to hug The Doctor again; comfort washed over the both of you. The two of you were finally together. You kissed up his neck to his cheek until you reached The Doctor’s lips, causing the two of you to enter into another round of kissing until you broke apart again to breathe.
“Do you want to go somewhere more comfortable?” You eventually said, brushing a lingering tear from The Doctor’s face.
“Oh! I would love to!” The Doctor giggly started talking with his hands.
“There’s a planet I recently discovered that is completely made of trampolines! How exciting! And what a comfortable ground to walk on.” He was so happy to finally have you back in his life. Sure, you were never gone, but the isolation drove The Doctor insane, especially when he discovered that he loved you so deeply and he just wanted to share his life and love for adventure with you. He missed having you near him.
“Umm … Doctor, that’s not what I meant. Although that does sound fun, maybe later.” You tried to decline his offer politely, but you really were interested in adventuring with him, especially now with your budding relationship adding a new element to the dynamic.
“Oh, what did you me- OH! Oh! Well, yes, I completely agree with your statement. We should definitely move to somewhere more comfortable.” The Doctor quickly grabbed your hands and pulled you out of the kitchen, but not before you could grab a tray of brownies. He continued to pull you through The TARDIS until you reached his room, the two of you giggled as you both excitedly committed to making up for all of the lost time spent hiding feelings for the other. There would be no more hiding now, no more secretive looks or almost moments. There would be only exciting adventures, intimate moments shared and a lot of baking.

The Master stalked the cold, rainy streets of New London, New Earth. He was there to gain more information about The Doctor for his next scheme, or, at least, that’s what he told himself. Because every time The Doctor was in view, instead of analysing her every move for weakness, he was trying to secretly look past her and her other companions to get even the tiniest glimpse of you. You and The Doctor’s Fam were walking in the middle of the town’s main street with The Doctor leading the herd. The Master was finding it difficult to continue to follow you and the conversation while hiding behind vendors and their carts, trying to lure in tourists, but he managed well enough. He was certain that he looked insane, tarnishing his ego, but he hadn’t seen you properly yet. The Master hadn’t seen you in so long and he just had to see you.
You were cocooned within the herd of companions as if they knew that you were the favoured prey. The Fam had adapted to doing that, keeping you hidden. You were always the target of The Master’s kidnappings, every single one, so they always kept you protected and in eyesight. Except for The Doctor who seemed more inclined to show off than to express overt worry. You always blamed her social awkwardness, but The Master considered it to be plain ignorance. Nevertheless, The Doctor continued her tour guide-like speech about the area.
“Actually, believe it or not, this is the fifteenth Earth since the original. So, we are actually walking on the New New New -” The Doctor continued to rattle off a string of ‘new’s until her point was reached. The Master scoffed at her ridiculousness, how she was always like this, trying to impress Humans with nonsense. He grew even more aggravated when he finally saw your face and how amazed you looked, with bright and shiny eyes filled with wonder. He couldn’t wait for the opportunity to finally get you alone, so he could kidnap you. He ventured to think that maybe one day he could make your eyes shine like that because of something he showed you, but he quickly abandoned that thought. He ignored its meanings and returned to focusing on the task at hand: kidnapping you and terrifying The Doctor and her little pets.
The form of The Fam’s protective bubble loosened slightly. You were still in the middle of their protective circle, but the form was stretched out between two vendor carts. You were still too well guarded for The Master to make a proper move, but as he planned, an eruption of screams was heard from down the street. Quickly those screams came closer and closer to The Doctor, her Fam, and you. The Master had enlisted the help of an emerging villain who was recently wronged by The Doctor to interrupt this adventure. The Master trained them in ferociousness, revenge, and villainy, all in turn for the monster to not hurt you. He made that caveat very clear. If The Master were to be interrogated about this encounter, he would deny the fact that he told his one-time business partner that if they harmed you in any way, he would kill them without hesitation. Death was always a spectacular threat to use in order to get what you wanted, at least in The Master’s mind it was.
The monster, a disgusting beast with long sharp teeth, and even longer, sharper nails, ripped through the crowd of people, wounding the ones not fast enough to get away. The Doctor now turned protective, keeping you and The Fam behind her outstretched arms. She explained the monsters' race, and how they were usually peaceful, despite their deadly appearance, but you barely followed her ramble, too overcome with the shock of your ruined outing. The Doctor continued to vocalise her confusion about this monster’s out-of-character behaviour. This caused the monster to lunge forward, swiping at The Doctor. She dodged his swipe and continued to protect you and your friends. The Monster screamed a jagged cry before speaking of how The Doctor, in an act of self-heroism against the Daleks, caused the death of his family by giving a self-aggrandizing speech pleading for peace instead of actually acting to solve the disaster that was occurring before her. After explaining his story, the monster lunged again. The Doctor yelled for you and The Fam to return to The TARDIS, and after some brief yet urgent arguing, all of you eventually agreed.
It should have been simple, finding The TARDIS, but with the fearful crowd running around each and every way, the task was suddenly harder than before. When you and The Fam started out your return trip, you had your hands clasped tightly around Yaz’s and Ryan’s hands respectfully. They dragged you through the crowds and you were quite thankful for their presence. The crowds seemed to double in both number and fear, it reminded you of when The Doctor took you to see the running of the bulls in Spain.
One side of the crowd surged, curving into an alleyway, and dragging Yaz away from you and Ryan. Your hands were roughly ripped apart. Graham, who was also dragged with that moving crowd, cried out for Ryan to keep you safe and to stay together while he went to search for Yaz. Neither you nor Ryan remembered where The TARDIS was located. The crowds and screaming and running made it even more impossible for the two of you to recognize any possible indicators that both of you were headed in the right direction. Another wave of scared people surged, dragging you away from Ryan, brutally ripping your hands apart. You both screamed to each other and screamed at the crowds to stop, but it didn't help. You continued to be pulled away from your friends and into the moving currents of the ever-shifting crowds.
Eventually, they died out, leaving you alone in a dark alleyway, too dark for the daytime. You crept around anxiously, you had no idea if The Doctor had stopped the monster, it could have been anywhere, and you had no idea where any of your friends had been pulled to. You still tried to look for the TARDIS, even though you didn’t believe that The Doctor would park her anywhere near a dark and dingy ally like this one.
The sound of a glass bottle skirting over cobbled streets distracted you from your search, causing you to turn around and look to where the noise came from. You thought it could be the monster. As soon as you did this, you regretted it. You felt a syringe plunge into your neck. The effects of which were practically instantaneous, making you so weak that your knees gave out and your vision became fuzzy. Someone caught you, even in your daze, you could tell that they were strong, as they picked you up bridal style and carried you with perfect ease. Your head hung limply over your capture’s arm and before your eyes finally closed due to heaviness, you saw the shadow of the individual carrying you. They were shorter compared to the momentous monster that attacked you and your friends and they were wearing a long coat and cuffed pants. If your hunch was correct, you knew exactly who was kidnapping you, giving you some semblance of relief that it wasn't some random person doing this.
It took you a while to actually come to, but in your anaesthetised sleep you had wonderful dreams. You didn’t know if that was just a side effect of the anaesthetic, but they were welcoming and calm, given the circumstances. Upon first waking up, you first felt how rigid your body was, it was clear that he tied you up, he tended to do that, so you weren't surprised, but that didn’t subtract from the fact that the combination of the sedative and rope ties made you incredibly sore. You groaned when you moved your neck from its hanging position, despite not wanting to encourage your kidnapper’s behaviour, you had to express your discomfort at the moment. When you opened your eyes, you saw him crouched at eye level before you, with gleaming amber eyes and a wide smile. He seemed genuinely happy, as he always did when he kidnapped you.
The Master kept doing this. You’ve asked on many occasions why he felt the need to kidnap you. If he kidnapped you as a part of his latest plan to “destroy The Doctor”, you could understand his motivations, but he kidnapped you, seemingly, for fun. The two of you shared banter and jokes, more than you did with The Doctor if you were being honest. When The Master first kidnapped you, you were understandably angry and uncomfortable and scared. You were not present when The Fam met O or when they went to Gallifrey and fought the Lone Cyberman, but from what your friends and The Doctor described, The Master was someone to be feared. Which only caused confusion to plague your brain when he offered you tea and biscuits and even a spare room if you promised not to get into trouble in his TARDIS, as The Master’s torment, then, for his best enemy lasted longer than he imagined. That was many kidnappings ago, and you had taken him up on the offers of tea, biscuits, and a spare bedroom on many occasions. But with each new kidnapping, you were never able to get to the bottom of why The Master acted this way to you. You had your assumptions, sure, but you wanted to hear his reason.
“So why are you kidnapping me this time?” Disgruntled and tired from the sedative and the rope that wasn’t too tight around you, but still incredibly uncomfortable.
“Why else would I kidnap one of The Doctor’s little pets? To torment her senselessly! It’s quite fun!” He leaned forward excitedly, almost bumping your nose with his. The Master always spoke very close to people’s faces, you thought that he thought that this act would make him more intimidating. It might have worked at first, but you were too used to it by now.
“I’m not her pet!” You growled at him, invading his space, as much as you could, given the ropes restraining you to the chair. You were more upset that he used a rougher rope this time compared to your anger over his comment. You were comfortable enough with yourself to not be hurt by The Master’s teasing.
“Oh, really now?” The Master moved back and eventually stood before you, making you look up to him. Sometimes you hated his childish dependence on power dynamics, you were frankly too tired, with the remains of the sedative still in your system, to care about said dynamics. You wanted a comfortable bed and rest, not rough ropes digging into your wrists and sides and ankles and The Master’s fragile ego.
“Yes.”
“Prove it.”
“I’m sorry, I can’t. You see, I have these ropes restraining my movements, so I won’t be able to punch you in the face. As you know, The Doctor abhors violence. I don’t think that the others would want to disobey her, but I don’t really have that much of a problem with rebelling against The Doctor’s quote-unquote wisdom” The Master burst into a fit of chauvinistic laughter.
“So, you’ll kill. Was not expecting that! Maybe The Doctor only keeps you around to change you, like how she constantly tries to disrupt my life and change me.”
“I never said I would kill. I’m not like you, so don’t compare me to you. And I’m not like The Doctor, or The Fam, or any of her other companions either, so don’t compare me to them. I’m me and I just won’t hesitate to protect myself when threatened.” The Master pretended to have not liked what he heard you say, but, quite the contrary, what you had just said was an example of one of the many reasons why he liked you. You weren’t like him. You weren’t like The Doctor. You weren’t like the other Humans that hopelessly followed The Doctor like lost puppies. You were something new. Someone new that completely enticed The Master to his core.
You had a fire of independence and a passion for justice that exceeded The Doctor’s. Where she had to try to be kind or nice, reminding herself with catchphrases and mantras, you never did. The Doctor often failed to register the fine line between justice and cruelty, you never did. Maybe that is why she, truly, kept you around, and why The Master really wanted you beside him. Keeping him from going to extremes like when he destroyed Gallifrey. The Master liked trouble, but he was growing a bit tired of constantly running away from all of the problems he caused with no sense of peace. Perhaps you could have been his peace, but he knew that the damage was done, and he had inflicted too much pain to be deserving of any peace. If he kept kidnapping you, he could still keep you safe and in his life, even if it wasn’t to the extent that he desired.
The Master turned, leaving your comment hanging in the air, and went to inspect something on his TARDIS monitor and leaving you to grapple with your thoughts. You weren’t exactly positive that you could hurt anyone, and you were afraid that he knew that. You wanted to protect people, protect peace and innocence. But you tried to think back to when you were left to fend for yourself in a dangerous situation, and you couldn’t locate a single memory. The Master had always been there, kidnapping you away from danger. You were thankful for that; you were quite privileged compared to The Doctor’s other companions who had to deal with fear and adrenaline and wounds and attacks and loss. You were always safe in The Master’s TARDIS with a substantial array of foods and blankets and warm drinks. But sometimes this made recurring system made you feel weak and inexperienced compared to your friends.
When you really thought about it, you understood how much The Master did for you. He clearly cared about you even though he would profusely deny it, and you couldn’t deny the fact that he was hypnotically attractive. If he was villainous, he wasn’t villainous to you. You saw how he possessed an aura of sadness like The Doctor, they were both so lonely, but The Doctor had companions. You wondered who The Master had, then you realised that he only had his TARDIS and you, if you counted the kidnappings, which you assumed that he did. When The Master thought you weren’t looking, you saw the sadness that pooled in his eyes and the soft touches he would give when controlling the console, almost apologetic for his outbursts. You saw how he was willing to be more vulnerable to you, at least by his standards of vulnerability.
After a long silence, briefly interrupted by TARDIS beeps and wheezing and The Master’s grumbles and mumbles about whatever was on his console monitor, you spoke up again.
“Really, what goes on in that dumb head of yours?”
“I am not dumb.” The Master grumbled, trying to fix something on his console monitor, whatever was on it was really troubling him. You would have asked him, but you preferred to taunt him.
“Yes, you are!” You spoke in a sing-songy voice, knowing that it would aggravate him even more. It worked, he finally turned back toward you.
“How, pray tell, and I dumb?” He crossed his arms in front of himself, leaning against the console. You preferred having his attention on you, and The Master preferred you trying to get his attention compared to the alarms on the console monitor distracting him from the kidnapping.
“Because, if you wanted to go out on a date with me, this badly, you could have just asked.”
The Master’s mouth fell open slightly. He knew that you were smart and observant, but he thought that he was being discreet. He quickly regained composure, though, smirking cheekily and trying to ignore his growing vulnerability. He needed to take back the power in the situation. But you just stared right back, not giving in to the power of his eyes. You swore that he was trying to hypnotise you into submission, to make you forget your allegation, but you fought back against him every time The Master’s telepathic force poked your mind.
He continued to stare at you, slightly uncomfortable that you kept standing up against him instead of quivering and flustering before him, but he knew that if you did that, The Master wouldn’t like you as much as he did. His eyes bored into yours, trying to intimidate you, intensifying his gaze and his hypnotism, but you refused to back down and submit. You saw The Master’s eyes grow slightly warmer before he quickly turned back toward The TARDIS, his shoulders tensed. He gripped his console and eyed the monitor. He spoke again, after a strained silence, still agitated.
“I’m growing tired of you. You will find that ridiculous blue box you travel in just around the street corner.” The Master flicked a few switches, causing the ropes that held you tightly against the chair to drop, and at the snap of his fingers, The TARDIS doors opened instantaneously.
“Now run along to The Doctor before I decide to keep you locked in here forever.” You slowly got up and walked to the doors, still stiff from the binding. Before you exited The Master’s ship, you turned to get one last glimpse of the strange Time Lord.
“You know, if you were to, hypothetically, ask me out on a date… I wouldn’t say no.” You leaned against The TARDIS, and she gave a reassuring hum above you. You weren’t quite sure, though, if it was because of your comment or the sudden physical act.
“Why?” The Master was questioning and hopeful, with an aura of playfulness in his tone. You shrugged in a way to indicate subtleness, but only to disguise your intense feelings for the man before you.
“I don’t know. You don’t seem as bad as the others say you are. At least, not to me.”
“As you pointed out, I kidnap you constantly.” The Master couldn’t help but smile at your innocence and naivety. He could not understand how you could still see him as someone decent, despite all of his evil acts.
“Yeah, but it’s always a part of a scheme to kill The Doctor and her Fam, while I am safe and tucked away in your ship far away from any danger, or it’s right before The Doctor is about to get us into a dangerous situation when I’m stolen away by you. I would put money on the fact that right after you took me, the monster attacked The Fam, and you kept looking at the monitor to check and see whether or not the threat was gone.” The Master didn’t say anything, only smiled bittersweetly at you, after you smiled and waved him goodbye. The Master snapped his fingers again, closing the doors when you fully exited his TARDIS, and mumbled a soft “Until we meet again, Y/n,” under his breath.
The Master watched you leave on the console room monitor, when you returned to The Doctor, he flew off to drift amongst the stars in order to plan for his next kidnapping of you. But when coordinates randomly appeared on the data screen of the console, he grew distracted from his task. He thought that maybe he deserved a break from torturing himself by dangling something he could never have before him, maybe he deserved a little trouble at the moment. The Master, strangely, did not know the place the coordinates sent him to, but the message was sent from an old partner in a small overthrow of a corrupt dictator he participated in. The partner had thanked The Master profusely, but he was only in it for the money and to see the dictator, who angered The Master at a banquet, finally and horrifically murdered.
The Master freshened up a bit and followed the coordinates to the meeting place. He strolled out of his TARDIS, confident and excited about a new evil scheme. However, The Master’s face fell in disappointment when he saw The Doctor leaning against her ridiculous blue box. The Master grumbled and rolled his eyes, quickly turning back to his ship. He was not in the mood for another lecture from The Doctor, he had experienced too many of them in his life.
“Why do you keep kidnapping Y/n?” The Doctor’s question caused The Master to halt. Even though he wanted to just fly away and leave The Doctor questioning his actions, he couldn’t resist talking about you, but he couldn't allow his best enemy to know the truth. He marched up to The Doctor, trying to be threatening.
“Because seeing the look of fear in your eyes, Doctor brings joy to my very dark life.” The Master turned to leave, again, even more annoyed with The Doctor’s interference.
“Are you sure that it's my pain bringing you joy? Because from where I’m standing, it looks like Y/n is the one sparking joy in your dark life.” The Master froze in shock. He thought that there was no way for The Doctor to know his true feelings for you. He assumed that The Doctor was too dim to catch on to his, admittedly, uncharacteristic behaviour. He knew that you would never tell her of the feeling you, correctly, presumed he had for you. He knew that you found the banter quite fun and that you enjoyed his company, as he did for you. If you didn’t, you would be kicking and screaming in duress during every encounter, but the two of you were always polite and cordial. How did The Doctor find out about how he felt for you?
“I have no idea what you are referring to, Doctor. I think your mind is growing emotional due to extended time around Humans. Have your pets been making you watch rom-coms?”
“Oh, just admit it, Master. You like Y/n. I know for a fact that they like you, too.” The Master stayed facing his TARDIS, he did not want The Doctor to see his pleased face, but his happiness faded when he realised that the two of you could never be together. For so many reasons it was impossible. He thought that it was simpler to break your heart now than to wait for one of his enemies to kill you or for you to die of old age while he remains young. The Master’s anger was boiling up inside of him. All he wanted was you, but everything would be so difficult if you and The Master actually became a couple.
“Don’t you understand?! Oh! What am I saying?! Of course, you don’t understand!” His rage fully took over him as he turned back to The Doctor.
“Understand what?” The Master just wished his best enemy would drop the subject.
“Y/n can never live with me on my TARDIS, they can never be my companion, and they can never love me! It’s a big enough risk for me to love them! All of the damage I caused, all of the people I’ve killed whose families want to take revenge on me, all of the people who want to see me dead, they will go after Y/n, they will hurt and kill them, just to get to me. I can never allow that! You take so many risks with your pets, Doctor, but I refuse to put Y/n in that much danger. So, I will remain their strange protector, keeping them away from the danger you threaten to put them through.” The Master gave up trying to explain his position to The Doctor, massaging his brow with his hand.
Throughout this discourse the two Gallifreyans had, they had moved and circled each other. The Doctor had allowed you to listen in on the entire conversation via her TARDIS’s listening devices and instructed you to exit her ship when she indicated. After The Master had made his declaration of the love you wanted to exit then and run to him, but stopped at the doors, watching the scene briefly. You thought that The Master was going to attempt to explain himself further, but stopped himself multiple times, he suddenly surged back towards his TARDIS. This time he was fully intent on leaving and never coming back. You rushed out of the doors, The Doctor’s TARDIS making no attempt to stop you, as you ran to The Master and desperately wrapped your arms around his torso, you could feel him tense in your arms, but he knew it was you holding him. It broke his hearts at the thought that he would have to turn you down to your face instead of just running away forever. You couldn’t see The Master’s face, but you assumed that he was regretting following the coordinates. He eventually relaxed, but softly placed his hands on your arms and pushed them away from his body.
“I can’t. I can’t do this to you.” The Master refused to face you, still walking determinedly to his TARDIS.
“I would be allowing you to sign your own death certificate. I can’t let you kill yourself for me. I am an incredibly selfish person, but I refuse to let the only light of my life perish because of my wants.”
You grabbed The Master’s hand forcefully, stopping him from moving. You tried to turn him around to face you, but he stood as still as a statue. You elected to move to his side, resting your chin on his shoulder. You still clasped your hands tightly around his one. You wanted to make this conversation as private as you possibly could. You knew that The Doctor was still overseeing this encounter and you could see The Master’s agitation and uncomfortableness at being so vulnerable.
“I want this. I want you, Master.” He finally looked at you, his eyes big and round and sad, tears were dangerously threatening to spill out and cascade down his face.
“I can’t. I can’t. I would be killing you. I would corrupt you. My selfishness will bring your end before it was ever supposed to happen, all because I want someone to love me.”
The Master continued to mutter self-deprecating comments about how what the two of you could have together was impossible to actualize. You hated seeing him like this. You understood that he had thousands of years of past trauma plaguing him and he should have the opportunity to be open, but in this situation, when you knew that you could ease his pain and he refused to listen to you, all you wanted was to slap his self-depreciation out of him.
You abruptly tore your hands from his and cupped his face, planting a soft kiss on his lips. You moved to pull away, as you had an important statement to make to The Master, but he quickly placed a firm hand on the back of your neck, deepening the kiss. You ventured to think how awkward The Doctor must be feeling at this sight. The Master must have been able to see into your mind because as soon as you thought of The Doctor, he increased his attack on your lips. The two of you parted when you needed to catch your breath. You rested your forehead against his as he caressed your face with care and reverence, occasionally running his hands through your hair affectionately.
“Master, I know that you believe that you are doing your best to protect me right now, but from my perspective, I know that you would never have gotten involved with me if you had any doubt about whether or not we would make it out together. I know that you do what you do in order to protect me, as you did today. I know that you will care for me. And I know that you will find a way to combat my human biology and lifespan, so we can spend more time together. I believe in you. I believe that you love me. Now you just need to believe me and believe in my love for you.”
You tried to look him in the eye, but he skirted your gaze, electing to close his eyes in an act to engrave your words into his memory. He pulled you into a bone-crushing hug suddenly, one arm pulling your torso tight against his, the other wrapped around the back of your neck. Your nose rested between the collar of his purple coat and his neck, and you breathed in his scent of warm smoke and cold mint, a juxtaposition that was very him. You didn’t know if this was the last moment you would ever see him this intimately or ever again and you wanted to remember every nuance in his character that you were allowed the privilege of knowing.
The Master thought long and hard about his possible relationship with you, ever since he noticed his growing feelings for you. He wondered if pursuing you was worth it, given that you were Human and he was a Time Lord, but you were keen and knowledgeable of The Master’s ways. As soon as he saw you, he began drawing up possible plans for extending your life. He had been so wrapped up in his mind about all of the futures the two of you could live, and now he had the opportunity to live out some of those futures. He believed you. He believed your love. Despite how shocked he was about his feelings for you and yours for him, from this moment forward he refused to live without your love and support. He eventually pulled back, still holding you tightly. You couldn’t read his face and grew even more fearful that you would never see him again.
“Please don’t leave me, Master.” You tried to hold him tighter, in an act to plead for your future with The Master, but he pulled your hands away from his body to hold them in his hands.
“As long as you don’t leave me, Y/n.” The Master’s face broke into a genuinely happy smile when he saw the relief that spread across your face. You hugged him again, and he picked you up and spun you around a couple of times. The both of you giggled excitedly.
“I guess it's a good thing I made you pack before this then.” The Doctor spoke up when you and The Master separated. Both of you had entirely forgotten that The Doctor was there watching your confessions of love.
The Doctor was fully supportive of your budding relationship with The Master. She helped the two of you move your suitcases and boxes of souvenirs into The Master’s TARDIS and gave you an emotional goodbye, along with a goodbye to The Fam, and a promise to call and text frequently. Once settled and happy in your new home, all you could do was smile until your face hurt and hug The Master. Both he and you were too excited about the future and your love for the Time Lord to fully comprehend the risks of your new relationship. But at this moment of bliss, the risks were worth it.
