In 2022 American food company General Mills announced it was divesting from Atarot as a direct result of pressure from human rights groups, activists and others. Basic summary of the news about yesterday's far-right terrorist attack so people outside Brazil are properly informed of the situation.

The culprit, Francisco Wanderley Luiz, was 59-year-old keymaker. In the most recent elections, he ran for congressman by PL (same political party as former president Jair Bolsonaro) and lost the popular vote.

A few days before the attack, he posted veiled threats on Facebook, and one very explicit message namedropping 4 public figures around Joe Biden's level of leftism, which he refers to as "the shitty commies" and telling "you icky old men have 72 hours to disarm the bomb in your houses. The game begins on November 13 17:48 and ends at the 16th" accompanied by a comical amount of bomb emojis.

After the threatening messages, the terrorist wrote the phrase "for shit statues, you use dynamite" on his house's mirror, put on a suit themed after The Joker and drove his car on a 24h10min trip from Porto Alegre to Brasilia. He arrived at the Supreme Court, made a thumbs up sign to a group of confused witnesses in a nearby bus stop, and walked toward the Supreme Court's statue.

He threw a bomb at statue, which bounced off Looney Tunes style and hit the terrorist's head, killing him instantly. No one was harmed by the terrorist attack except for the culprit.

According to acquaintances, the incident happened because the culprit was emotionally disturbed by his divorce.

Enemies vs cowards

With few exceptions, it is more accurate to divide most politicians into two broad categories: Enemies, and Cowards. The enemies are those politicians who are legitimately opposed to your policy goals. The cowards are those politicians who may agree with your policy goals, but will sell you out if they must in order to protect their own interests. Embrace the idea that we are simply pushing to elect the cowards, rather than the enemies. Why? Because the true work of political action is not to identify idealized superheroes to run for office. It is, instead, to create the conditions in the world that make it safe for the cowards to vote the right way. Under this framework, you can set aside the tedious feelings of disappointment that come with holding moral views while also supporting any politician. Will your favorite candidate do something bad? Almost certainly. After all, they are cowards. The onus is on us to give the cowards a soft path to the moral choice. The education necessary to equip citizens with the facts; the persuasion necessary to move public opinion to the right place; the organizing necessary to mobilize people to fight for the right thing. These things are the substance of “politics.” Elections can be seen as just another organizing task, one in an endless procession of efforts necessary to arrange the chess pieces of power in a way that will, eventually, produce the righteous outcome.

EXCLUSIVE: “You Have Been Warned”: Republican Senators Threaten the ICC Prosecutor over Possible Israel Arrest Warrants

Read the full letter, obtained by Zeteo, which threatens sanctions in defense of Netanyahu.

“Target Israel and we will target you,” the senators tell Khan, adding that they will “sanction your employees and associates, and bar you and your families from the United States.”

Rather ominously, the letter concludes: “You have been warned.” In a statement to Zeteo, Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland said, “It is fine to express opposition to a possible judicial action, but it is absolutely wrong to interfere in a judicial matter by threatening judicial officers, their family members and their employees with retribution. This thuggery is something befitting the mafia, not U.S. senators.”

While neither Israel nor the United States are members of the ICC, the Palestinian territories were admitted with the status of a member state in April 2015. Khan, a British lawyer, was appointed as the ICC’s chief prosecutor in February 2021, a week after the court had already decided, by majority, that its territorial jurisdiction extended to “Gaza and the West Bank.”

On Friday, The Hague-based office of the chief prosecutor published an unprecedented statement on Twitter, calling for an end to threats of retaliation against the ICC and attempts to “impede” and “intimidate” its officials. The statement added that such threats could “constitute an offence against the administration of justice” under the Rome Statute.
