I fixed some of the problems that were bugging me with the original drawing >_>
Neurodiversity strikes again with my Shazam! Hyper-fixation,,,,
Here’s my take on the character of Billy Batson. It’s kinda mostly based off of the 2019 film but also a little bit on the new52 comics soo yeah >_> ⚡️
Lol this is actually my first time drawing a superhero so it’s kinda outside of my normal comfort zone
My Darla redesign, and also my work in progress for her superhero form!! 💜✨🔮⚡️
I know I won’t get a chance to finish this tonight because normally going from the building/sketching stage to line art is at least an hour or two, not to mention coloring and shading LOL.
I’m still not exactly satisfied with the current proportions/pose, but it’s bedtime for me rn,,, I’m very sleepy haha.
But, I also redesigned Darla to give her a fuzzy oversized sweater and some stripped leggings! I also gave her some necklaces and soft winter boots! :D
Enjoy~ ✨
Here’s Freddy’s design for both his regular form and his superpower form! ⚡️🩵
I was hoping to actually pick a different color for Freddy’s chest emblem however, I wanted to save a golden/yellow color for Mary’s design instead. But that’s okay I think he still works with a monochromatic and blue kinda vibe sooo yeah :)
Kinda a more interesting post for tonight. This is a comic page mock-up that I did for the third act of my Shazam story! ^_^ ⚡️
The idea here is that this is kinda the “inside” of the spell that allows Billy to share his powers with his siblings. In this scene Billy’s has just gotten ahold of The Wizard’s staff, causing it to activate its magic. So, we see a glimpse of Billy and all his siblings starting to magically float off the ground during the final battle against Black Adam. Showing that they are being affected by a spell of some sort.
Then, suddenly Billy is transported into this “mind palace”, that is a kinda like a shared liminal space to represent the connection Billy has formed with his siblings over the course of the story. When Billy is transported here, he finds shadowy figures of his siblings standing in the middle of a black, shadowy, fog.
He quickly approaches them, scared and confused. He’s unsure of what is happening, because he’s just not that familiar with magic yet. He’s trying to talk to Freddy, and ask him for help, but Freddy is not able to respond/interact with Billy. This shadowy figure is kinda like a “placeholder” for Freddy, and the other siblings as well. So, that’s why he’s unresponsive in this scene.
However, while this spell is happening, Tawny is trying to get through to Billy. Shouting at him to say the magic word, “Shazam” and complete the spell. Then, once Billy hears Tawny’s voice echo through this liminal space, he says the magic word, completes the spell, snaps back into reality, and sees that he’s temporarily empowered his foster siblings with the powers of living lighting. Meaning, this is my introduction to the Shazamly! Yay! 🎉
Once the spell is completed these shadowy “placeholders” for his siblings will be replaced with their actual consciousness, and they’ll look like their normal selves. Meaning, that when they all are using the powers of Shazam, they’ll have a shared liminal space where they can sense each other’s connection. However, we don’t see this “setting” again for the rest of the story, because it’s not really relevant once Billy has successfully opened his heart, and shared the powers with his siblings.
It will be relevant again if/when I write more stories in this universe. But for now, I’m just focusing on Billy’s origin story and putting the Shazamly in the third act.
But yeah, I just wanted to share this little snippet from the third act of my story. I have pretty much finished outlining my first story completely. I just don’t want to post it here yet, until I’ve turned my outline into like an actual screenplay or something lol. If you’re wondering what I’ve wrote,so far, it’s basically like if the 2019 Shazam film had more of a focus on fantasy and found family, instead of a focus on horror and wish-fulfillment. Which are all good themes but, I just wanted to tell my version of this story, and double down on my favorite tropes. :^).
So if you like Shazam, fantasy, found family, or just fan made stories in general stay tuned, I should have time to format and post my story, in its entirety, pretty soon!
Enjoy~✨
Kalypso’s Powers~ ✨🌀
Here is some of my writing for my version of the Daughters of Atlas. Since they’re from the magic realm I thought I would make their skin colorful, similar to the gods from Disney’s Hercules.
This is just a little story sample I had in my mind when I was envisioning how I want her powers to work. The way they work in Fury of the Gods is cool and all, but I wanted to add something more fantastical and visually wicked.
And don’t worry guys once the Shazamly comes to Billy’s rescue the curse of madness gets reversed. Just having his family around him to validate that magic is real, and to check in on him is enough to reverse the damage done to his psyche and return his arms/veins to normal.
Although, please do be warned, Kalypso’s curse is no joke because once the curse has fully corrupted a person, there is no cure to their madness, and their mental state will be permanently altered.

INT. SUPERSTORE - NIGHT (YEARS AGO)
A young BILLY, no older than four, stands near a shopping cart. His mother, MARILYN, a tired woman in her early 20s, rummages through her purse as she stops pushing her cart. She glances at Billy.
MARILYN
Stay right here, baby. I'll be back in a sec.
Unbeknownst to Billy, Marilyn is a local weed dealer within her community. She begrudgingly brought Billy along for a late night “meetup” since she wasn’t comfortable leaving him home alone at his young age.
As Marilyn rushes away, Billy's attention wavers, captivated by two young children playing with action figures and dolls. Their laughter fills the aisles as they run around, screaming and cheering.
Billy walks away from his mother’s shopping cart and approaches them with wide eyes.
BILLY
Woah! What toy is that?
CHILD 1
It’s Star Commander Ultra! He’s the bravest hero in the galaxy.
The younger of the two children chime into the conversation to brag about their toy as well.
CHILD 2
Well my doll is Princess Butterfly Sparkle Glitter, and she’s the bravest and the coolest in all twelve galaxies!
CHILD 1
There’s only one galaxy, Macy.
CHILD 2
You don’t know that.
As the two children settle their differences, they agree to let Billy in on their game as they run around the store shouting and having fun.
Suddenly a mother rounds the corner and shouts for her children to come. She makes a vague comment that she’s done shopping and they’re leaving the store now. The children hurriedly say bye to Billy as they run off to go catch up with their mother.
Billy is suddenly left alone. Anxious, confused, and unable to find the shopping cart where his mother told him to stay.
Billy frantically looks around. Panic sets in as he realizes he's lost.
Billy hurriedly rounds a corner, running face first into the legs of a police officer. A young blonde woman, OFFICER LINDSAY as he falls onto the floor.
OFFICER LINDSAY
Oh, whoopsies! Haha, that’s alright bud. You okay?
Although Billy is too stunned to reply, Officer Lindsay helps Billy off the ground. Her concern deepens as she looks around the store, realizing this child is unattended. She takes it upon herself to help Billy find his mother.
As Billy and Officer Lindsay roam the store looking for Marilyn, they eventually find her in a heated discussion with some of the employees at the store, supposedly about her suspicious activities. Marilyn’s face drops, as she realizes her son is being escorted by a police officer.
As Billy runs up to his mother to give her a hug Officer Lindsay is giving Marlyn a deep, powerful scowl as they are locked eye-to-eye.
EXT. SUPERSTORE - NIGHT
As MARILYN is led away by other police officers, OFFICER LINSDAY returns to BILLY, kneeling down to his level.
OFFICER LINDSAY
Hey bud, how do you feel about coloring books? If you want we could color together in this book that I brought with me.
She pauses for a moment as Billy looks around kind of confused, supposedly unsure of where his mother is.
OFFICER LINDSAY (CON’T)
I could really use your help with coloring these tigers, if you wanted to help me out.
Billy agrees, as is unaware of the circumstances that are going on around him, but he follows Officer Lindsay’s lead as she distracts him from the situation at hand.
Officer Lindsay takes Billy's hand, leading him away from the arrest of his mother. The shouts of the night slowly blend together as we fade to the next scene. Between scenes we timeskip to ‘current day’.
INT. SOCIAL WORKER'S OFFICE - DAY
As we transition scenes the sounds of the night slowly blend together into the sound of Billy’s social worker’s voice, MRS.KELLY. She is calling Billy’s name, trying to get his attention. BILLY (14) sits in a worn office chair outside of Mrs.Kelly’s office. Arms folded, staring off into space.
MRS.KELLY
(echoing during scene transition)
Billy… Billy.
Billy lightly flinches as he snaps back into reality, realizing he is being called.
MRS. KELLY
Come on in, let's talk.
Billy haphazardly tosses his backpack onto the open chair next to him as he does some light stretching, making himself comfortable, as he is evidently in no rush to sit down.
BILLY
Ah, how could I forget, ol’ reliable. You know, instead of you guys spending all this time and money trying to put me into a foster home, I could just live here instead.
They sit across from each other, the atmosphere charged. Mrs.Kelly is clearly annoyed with his snarky tone.
MRS.KELLY
Billy, you know we're running out of options here. I’m really gonna need you to get your act together.
BILLY's eyes narrow, a trace of bitterness in his tone.
BILLY
Uh-huh.
MRS.KELLY
You already know why you’re here.
BILLY
I do.
MRS.KELLY
And you already know what I’m gonna say.
BILLY
True.
Billy loosely crosses his arms as he settles in his chair, getting ready to imitate Mrs.Kelly as they speak over each other.
BOTH
(synchronized)
That I brought you in here today to tell you that you’ve been assigned to a new foster home.
Mrs.Kelly sighs, clearly familiar with Billy’s tone.
MRS.KELLY
Look, I know it's been a tough year for you. But this time has to be different.
Mrs.Kelly shoots Billy a serious look, piercing through his playful demeanor with an authoritative gaze.
MRS.KELLY (CON’T)
This time, you've got to give them a chance.
Billy's gaze hardens, his frustration bubbling beneath the surface.
BILLY
(challenging)
A chance? How many chances do I have to give? How many "homes" will I go through before you guys actually start listening to me? I don’t need a fake family to play pretend with. I have a family, I have a mom, they’re out there, looking for me.
Mrs.Kelly's expression softens, a mix of empathy and weariness.
MRS.KELLY
Billy, We’re not going to have this discussion again, we’ve been over this. You can do whatever you want when you’re 18, but for now the state is responsible for you. Which means I’m responsible for you, and I need you to try and play along, just a little longer.
Billy's guard waivers for a moment, feeling frustrated and unheard. His snarky attitude now takes a backseat to his more quiet exterior as he momentarily exposes his feelings of rejection and helplessness.
BILLY
But I’m tired of it. I just wanna make my own decisions instead of you guys and your “agency” shoving fake families and broken homes onto me like I’m some sort of charity case.
Mrs.Kelly leans back, sighing. She knows she's dealing with a determined young man who’s clearly had a rough start to life.
MRS. KELLY
You’re not a charity case, you’re a young man. A young man with a bright future ahead of you, and we’re just trying to do what’s best for you.
Mrs.Kelly pauses to make sure she has Billy's attention despite his sudden drop in bravado.
MRS.KELLY (CON’T)
I’m trying to do what’s best for you.
Billy nods, a hint of a reluctant acknowledgment. He lets out a sharp scoff.
BILLY
Yeah, I've heard that one before too.
End. ⚡️

Here is a new Shazam design for my version of the story!! ⚡️
My idea was to have the adult Shazam look a lot more like his child-counterpart. I think this will help both characters seem like the same person, with the same internal struggles. Because Shazam isn’t Shazam without Billy Batson, ya know?
That baggage from his past, and his struggles in the foster care system breeds empathy within the character, and I think that empathy is a good way to keep a hero motivated to do good.
I was thinking on how I was gonna write the connection Between Shazam and Billy. So far what I’ve been thinking is Billy’s internal struggle in the story is that he’s worried that he is unlovable and he will never find a place where he truly belongs. That’s kinda why he has so much urgency to find his birth mother, because he’s craving that support system he had for the first few years of his life…
( writing continues below… 📝)
These feelings of worry, shame, guilt and overall just kinda feeling like a burden accumulates within him over the years as he grows up in the system. Being passed on from house to house with pretty much all of the adults in his life stripping him of any personal autonomy he had. Like the adults in his life don’t really care about his wants, and they never listen to his concerns. They just keep passing him around his entire childhood.
That lack of stability, and that lack of autonomy really make him feel isolated and sad.
Billy is in distress that he pretty much has no say in where he lives, who’s in his life, or even the amount of personal items he gets to own. And he feels kinda helpless that his fate is kinda being locked in this cycle until he turns 18. Because every time he runs off, he gets caught. Then he’s back at square one.
Then this connects to Shazam because once he receives the wizard’s powers he becomes an adult. Then in that moment he realizes he does have a lot of power he never had before, both in the sense of flight and super strength, but more importantly the power to make his own decisions.
However, since he is a child he does kinda turn towards the more reckless side of things. Like how we see in the 2019 movie. Using his powers to ditch school, test his abilities, finding ways to get money, and then learning how to buy things he wants. He kinda leans heavy into these habits at first because he’s never been presented with an opportunity to make his own decisions before. He’s never really had the opportunity to do what he wants.
Then over the course of the story shows Billy starting to navigate all the freedom he’s been given. Watching him learn to use his powers for more selfless acts of heroism instead of only for his own self interests.
Having his background be one of a kid growing up with no control in his life, knowing those feelings of isolation and helplessness makes him more empathetic. He’s an “adult” that’s a lot more empathetic towards children and the less fortunate because he understands them.
He’s more willing to stop and listen to their concerns.
He’s more willing to help them solve their issues, because he is one of them.

Okay, so here is a design reveal for my slightly older Freddy! ~⚡️💙✨🦋 As well as some slight adjustments for my older Billy design. I’m still gonna have to go back to Freddy’s younger design and re-work some stuff lol >_>.
My versions of these characters are ever evolving. So please enjoy the ride, and keep your hands and legs inside the vehicle at all times. I think in this version, I wanna make it about 2 years after Billy’s origin story, so that makes Billy 16 and Freddy 18, if I’m remembering how I planned the story correctly,,, lol
Also, for the symbol on Freddy’s shirt, it’s like an alternate version of those Volcom shirts that used to be really popular in the early 2000s lol. I kinda wanted to show that Freddy’s kinda like an artsy-rebel type character, and I think those shirts are very reminiscent of those vibes lmao. 💀
But yeahhh, enjoy! ~✨

My Rock of Eternity work in progress! 🪨⚡️🐅🌴✨
When I post the final for this I’ll probably write a little blurb of text that explains some stuff about The Rock of Eternity, and how it’s kinda a physical manifestation of The Wizard’s heart.
