Daily Oracle Reading for 6-9-16 <3 Joy: Rejoicing in the present. This card keeps coming up for me lately. I've been feeling drained and laden down with stresses and worries. I haven't taken a lot of time for my own pleasure and enjoyment. That is what this card is about, having joy in the moment and being present. Often times, I'm not present. I'm so worried about my future that I forget to enjoy the now. I forget to experience the beauty of the moment I'm currently in. This card is a gentle reminder to have joy, right now in our present lives. Halloween Oracle by Stacey DeMarco (Blue Angel Publishing) Card descriptions are derived from card manual but in my own words and interpretation.
Hereās a quick-and-dirty list of things that I think sets up a good foundation for someone moving forward with magic work and why. Theyāre also in order of what I think is best approached first. (For a time reference, I recommend the whole thing taking at LEAST a year, but individual steps and overall length will vary in each person.)
Learn basic magical theory. What is happening when you cast a spell? What is grounding? How do correspondences work? Why is X step or tool important? Learn about what it is youāre doing before diving into actual casting. Have a basic grip on how it works.Ā
Some form of divination, even if itās something as simple as a pendulum. Other people wonāt always be there to help you answer questions, validate your interpretation of something, or offer direction. Having some form of divination under your belt helps you avoid dependency on other people. You can more easily answer your own questions, check your own intuition, and take matters into your own hands.
Protection and Cleansing. No matter what path you go down or what type of magic you end up doing, these are two things that every magic worker needs to know how to do, and know how to do it well. They also tend to be fairly straightforward to learn. Cleanse your space, cleanse yourself, cleanse that object, cleanse your grandma. Then protect them. Learn how to set up wards and shields, which brings us toā¦.
Basic energy work. Youāve probably already run into it a lot by this point and itās fine if youāve already picked up some things. But now is the time to really focus on it and get comfortable with it. Learn how to confidently sense whatās around you and interact with it, fix gaps in your wards and shields, project your intent into things, you get the idea. Energy work will always be there in a pinch and requires no materials besides your body, and is extremely versatile. Plus, most paths really require at least a base-level understanding of it these days. Canāt hurt.
Start honing your specific path. Hereās where the cookbooks, the old graveyards, the skulls on the shelf, the fairy figurines start really coming into play. If you have an idea of what sort of path youād like to follow, start really getting into the meat of it! What does it look like? What are the first steps to that type of magic? If for now youāre still eclectic or arenāt sure, then just read what interests you or try more advanced general spells than you have so far.
Go back and do it all again. Thatās right. You can also put time into your path or your regular research, but go back and pick up those old books from step one. Read the old articles. Return to the basics and see how your views have become more nuanced, or how you disagree. What details flew over your head the first time? Can you pick up a new form of divination or try something new with your main form? Could those wards and shields be stronger? You get the idea. Once youāve revisited it, you should have a really solid foundation that will help you no matter what direction you take next!
Other stuff to study on the side: Local folklore, mythology, and types of spirits. You may not want to work with spirits, but sometimes spirits want to work with you! So itās good to have an idea of what to do if they pop up.Ā What plants grow in your area? Whatās edible? What is used in healing?Ā What plants are NOT edible in your area? Whatās poisonous?
If you think thereās another important step that you recommend that I didnāt include, feel free to add it! :)

how did you get into witchcraft/the occult? (i don't know if "the occult" is a great way to describe what you do, sorry if thats a poor word choice š)
Hello :) the occult is a fine way to put it! Well, in 2014 I had a major life changing event that made me really think about who I was, and my spirituality. Ā I began to study some pretty mainstreamĀ ānew ageā subjects, like energy, chakras and the like. Ā I began to dig a litter deeper, but around that time college started and I kind of got overwhelmed. Ā I never really got into witchcraft though before. Ā Into my first year of college, I started to question even more than before about religion (I was raised conservative Christian) But it made me really wonder, Ā So I started visiting metaphysical stores out of curiosity. Ā I found myself instantly drawn to the idea of a witchcraft, quickly collecting witchcraft books and many pentacles. Ā I felt such a deep connection to the idea of being able to tap into the energy around me and the elements. Ā I have a real love for the spiritual aspects, such as the pagan Gods and Goddesses, and also the spells and rituals. Ā At this metaphysical store, I began to take a tarot class. Ā I started studying witchcraft even more, reading everything I could ( and sometimes that wasnāt always helpful.) But when I found witchcraft, I knew it was for me. Ā It was a long process overcoming some of the things I was told in the church (no disrespect though, I still honor aspects of my old faith.). Ā At first, I pushed myself in the direction of Wicca, but I have now taken the path of what I like to call an eclectic witch, using bits and pieces of paganism and other positive religions into my practices!! I hope this helps!! Feel free to message or ask more qās! My inboxes are always open!! have a great day :)
