“ i don’t really care . i had … nothing better to do , “ and her statement isn’t meant to be taken as mean , that much is proven by the crassness and lackadaisical nature , as she kicks her feet up and down on the seat mindlessly . eyes linger on his form , gauging his every move , before nodding . “ i like hot chocolate . if you … don’t mind . i can make it , though . you look … weird . i don’t want you to burn yourself . “
“ cool, no worries then. ” lacking tact was common place in halloweentown, it was only natural to be direct so salem didn’t take her words personally. nimble fingers ran through wild hair before he shook his head. “ i’m all good. this is how i am usually, ” he assured, moving to begin boiling the milk for the sweet drink. food was hard to stomach when he stayed sober long enough to feel withdrawals so non-alcoholic drinks had become his best friend.

Elva frowned, putting her hands on her hips. “Yeah, yeah, you can’t stay out of trouble. It’s nothing serious.” She shook her head, “You know what Salem, I–” She paused, unable to actually swear even given the circumstances, “I am really upset with you!” She shook her head, “If you think for a second I ended our friendship because I didn’t want to be around you, you’re more of an idiot than I thought. I cut everyone out because I didn’t want to hurt them. Because I wanted to protect you from me.” He knew that. He had to know that, “And I have been…” She looked down at her feet, her snowflake pendant glowing, “I have been so alone because of that. But it was worth it because everyone I loved was okay. But if you’re going to screw up and get yourself into trouble anyway then what did I do that for?” She demanded, angry at him again. “Now, I’m…I’m not going to be that person anymore. You’re going to get your shit together if I have to drag you to rehab myself–do you understand?”
Regret and hurt melted together as she yelled at him, telling him her most honest feelings. “But we never asked you to do that! I lost you, Elva. I lost someone that I lo-- cared about.” He caught himself just in time, wanting her to see that it should have been his choice if he wanted to take the risk of being her friend or not. His head was starting to spin more than usual. What did she want from him? He was a loser, plain and simple. His life was so screwed up and the only escape he could see at this point was to literally run away back to his home town. “I’m not going to rehab,” he spat out suddenly, focusing on the word like she had slapped him with it. Going to rehab meant announcing to everyone, including his family, how royally screwed up he really was.

“Yeah I’ve been coming into town more recently to visit you guys.” He smiles. “What have you been up to?”
“ Uh -- hanging out with friends.” None that Jack would recognize except Elva. “Work.” He shrugged. “Nothing here as fun as back home.”
he can’t outrun the sentiments that poison his body. they make him sick, vulnerable, w e a k. they rot him inside-out.

how do you heal from such internal damage? in reality, he knows he can’t. ——— but there’s no way he’ll be eaten alive by his own conscience.
he resorts to drugs, to alcohol. to the numbness it gives him no matter how temporary.
Taking a walk while high as kite, Salem felt that it was the best way to pass the time when he was in a good mood. However, taking that walk alone in a forest may have been a mistake. If anything was amiss, he failed to notice as he brushed his fingertips along low hanging leaves, giggling as it disturbed the water dew that had begun to collect on the delicate nature. It made him think of all the fanciful things that he missed about home and he started lamenting out loud until a new voice caught him guard. “Who’s asking?” He asked with a roguish grin as he turned to face the owner of the voice.

Irey was on her way back to the school late at night. She was just getting back from talking with her dad in the forest, letting him know about what she heard. As she’s walking, she hears someone talking out loud about Halloween town and it intrigues her instantly. She sees this someone stumbling through the forest and she can tell that maybe they’re intoxicated in someway but regardless she walks over to them. “Hey you know about Halloween Town?”

“But you’re not sure?” Though phrased like a question, her tone made clear that it was anything but. That certainly seemed like something one ought to know about themself. “Well, you have to tell me all about what that’s like. I’ve never possessed someone myself. Never really saw the appeal of it.”
“That’s what I said.” The former ghost boy was hardly concerned with details, he had and always would be the reckless type. “Uh --- it’s like putting on a costume but with more feeling.” He chuckled, having no better way to describe the sensation. High or sober, he was no word smith.

“ really ? “ closest thing to happiness from her is the small inflection in tone , before she looks at the other , shrugging gently , “ i need more medication . i’ve been HAVING migraines more often and … i don’t know why . hoping for a … stronger advil or … or something . UNLESS you have some . “
salem definitely had something stronger than advil. it was no secret to his siblings that he been making a mess of himself lately, the reason was still locked up tight in his mind. “ uh --- you should go to a doctor. they’re like, responsible and know about that shit. ” strong painkillers could easily lead down the road salem was on and he might be a hypocrite for it but he would never risk his little sister following him down that path.

“Me!” She said gleefully as she stood in front of him. Not a smart thing to do considering here she was walking alone at night in the woods but she knows nothing would dare to hurt her. She can tell he was on something by the grin on his face. “I’ve heard stories about that place, very interesting stories, that makes me wish I could have the chance to visit one day.” Irey remembered hearing things from Lock, Shock, and Barrel when they talked about Halloween Town and it just made her want to go badly.
His eyes followed her movements, easily able to keep track of her in the dark. Maybe it was a Halloween Town thing since they lived in grey days and dim light all the time. “It’s the best place. I’m going to go back someday for good.” Someday when he could figure out his mess and get his life cleaned up.
It took the former ghost a moment to remember who the woman was. It had a been a bad night for him when he met her, he honestly remembered very little about their talk but he felt comfortable in her presence, at least. “Oh, hey! Yeah, it’s pretty strange but I like it. Reminds me of my dad.” His dad who was the king of Halloween but also loved all things Christmas, including the chilly snow.

Maleficent had been interrupted at the damn festival. But there was no reason to give up. This little abomination from Halloweentown presented a great opportunity, especially after some research. He had been a ghost in his home world, and the transition to human was not always smooth. “Hello stranger.” She said, her sweet princess form bouncing towards him in the snow. “Weird weather we’re having, isn’t it?” Some chaos she wasn’t responsible for but definitely approved of.
