In Defence of Mabel Pines
I’ve been seeing a lot of hatred towards Mabel, and I want to defend her because I think people are being way too harsh.
Before I get into this, let’s all remember that Mabel is 12. (13 by the end of the series) Yes, she knows the difference between right and wrong, but she is still a child, so of course she’s going to be childish and selfish sometimes, she’s a child.
“She teases Dipper all the time!”
It’s what siblings do! My brothers tease me all the time, and I tease them back, it’s just how siblings treat eachother!
“Mabel is so selfish! Dipper had to give up Wendy so Mabel can get Waddles.”
No. Mabel was so upset about Waddles because not only had they gotten attatched to eachother already, Pacifica had won Waddles, where Mabel suspected she was going to abuse Waddles, and/or eat him.
Does this look like a good pet owner to you? If this was your pet, would you be upset?
So of course Dipper was going to resolve this for Mabel. It was the right thing to do. He has other opportunities to spend time with Wendy.
“Dipper also had to give up his job as a lifeguard for Mabel, just for another dumb crush.”
Again, no. If you remember, Mabel was trying to help Mermando REUINTIE with his family. She gave him up so he can be with his own kind again.
This was not just a dumb crush moment. Out of the goodness of her heart, she was trying to help him. So, yeah of course Dipper was going to help in the end, it was the right thing to do. Again, he has other opprtunties to spend time with Wendy.
“Okay, but what about Sock Opera when she won’t help Dipper because of Gabe?”
Okay, here you’re right. She was being selfish here, but you know what she also did in that episode?
Not only did she have to face Bill on her own, but she also beat him, giving up her play for her brother. Sure, she should have done this from the start, but this was a nice moment of development for her, and also, she did apologise.
“Mabel was being beyond selfish when she was mad at Dipper for chasing his dreams.”
If you ask me, both of the twins are equally at fault here.
Yes, Mabel was being selfish here when she wanted Dipper to stay with her, but she was having the worst day of her life. She felt so alone in this moment, she felt betrayed by Dipper, have you never had a bad day where you become unreasonable? Dipper should have spoken to Mabel first before accepting Ford’s offer. Mabel may be able to make friends with anybody, but Dipper is her best friend. Her brother. There’s a difference between friends and sibling bonds.
“Mabel also caused Weirdmageddon! It’s her fault.”
Seriously? You’re really blaming a 12 year old child, who had no knowledge over the rift, who also got decieved by Bill? Ford told Dipper not to tell Mabel about the rift, this was crucial infomation.
How on earth was she supposed to know not to trust anyone when she was never told what Bill was after? Ford got tricked by Bill, Dipper has been tricked by Bill, but they’re let off the hook. But when Mabel gets tricked by Bill, it’s suddenly all her fault? That’s really not fair, she’s a child. You know is to blame for Weirdmageddon? Bill Cipher.
Can you really blame Mabel for not wanting to go back to reality after the day she had? She thought her world was ending because Dipper was leaving, she was hurt. Scared. But in the end she came through. because she will always be there for her family. Even though she may be selfish sometimes, she’s not as bad as you think, she is just a child. she’s not worth being hated over.
For me, I just have no plans and just write the chapters just like that (at least one of my books)
On the other hand, I just leave a daft and write the chapter with my imagination going on (my one-shots mostly)
But if I have a really good idea, then I listen to my music while staying focus on that chapter/Oneshot.

Hey kids! If you’re a filmmaker, animator, or storyboard artist and you don’t know what screen direction is, you might want to read this.
For the record, there are always exceptions to the rule in filmmaking, which is why I pointed out 3 examples here.
I’ve also found that comic books tend to NOT take screen direction as seriously as film does, but I’m still on the fence if this is wise or not. My favorite comics pay close attention to screen direction so as to not confuse the reader.

Hey guys, Recapkid here. Remember when I promised a compilation on harassment in the fandom due to anti-shippers/fandom police a bit back? This the best I could do as one person with a lot going on in my life, but I promised I’d make this document and drop it before I left the fandom, so here it is.

Be warned going through the document there’s a lot of heavy material in it because it’s all things coming straight from the mouths of a group of people looking to hurt others. While I know this can’t fix anything hopefully it can at least expose the extent of how bad it is and make more people aware.
I am sure this document does not even begin to cover the full scope of it at all because many people have had more personal experiences, and I had to leave out some of the stories that were more convoluted in their explaining in favor of stuff that was more direct and to the point, but it’s a start.
I was really heartbroken to see so much harassment take place in this fandom, and I wish there was more I could have done. Hopefully though putting this out there in the open in a compiled place will at least shed some light to what anti-minded people (and yes there are definitely shippers that are anti-minded) end up perpetuating. Especially going forward into other fandoms I want people to be aware of what is happening. This sort of behavior should never be acceptable and it’s sad that fandom, my and many others safe space, had turned into such a hostile environment over the years. I remember back when fandom used to be very chill and fun for the most part. At this point it’s harrowing to try to figure out how to even begin to undo the damage fandom police have caused.

Also, yes. There are methods of catching someone’s IP. Even under a VPN.

Next time you get hit with anon hate?
Casually remind them you can very easily take this to the next level. And they can earn jail time while you lay back in your chair, having saved yourself and everyone else from a violent criminal.
Your online actions have real life consequences.
Make sure they learn that.
(Just in case there’s a “the police wouldn’t do that” - Yes. They absolutely would.
Or a “I can handle it.” No. That person will continue to harass others as well. And one of them may not be as strong as you. So do it for them and everyone else.
Or a “It’s not that severe.” Yes. It is. People have died because of this. It really is that severe.)
Take action. And make sure the lives of these bullies are truly wrecked.

This is a picture of my best friend. Normal photo, right? Well, look closer in the back where the yellow circle is. Can you see the face?
This isn’t just some normal chain letter. My friend died 3 nights after this picture was taken, the police having no idea how he died considering he was 18 and perfectly healthy.
It turns out a boy died in that room a few years ago. He was murdered and then a few nights later he was found dead in his bedroom from his skull broken and slowly bleeding to death.
If you don’t reblog this within an hour, you’ll hear a soft whimper for 3 nights straight. On the 4th night, the boy will come from your closet while you’re sleeping and kill you for not helping us put his soul at rest.
This is not fake. 3 people have already died from not passing this on.
