Hats off to the record of the year nominees

Personally I feel like the pressure of the media would be hurtful at a young age. How do you feel about all of these young artists appearing in the media recently? (People like Rebecca Black, Justin Bieber and Willow Smith.)

Damn. I wasn’t very famous and I wasn’t very young (around 19), but when Fall Out Boy “Made it,” it messed with me quite a bit.  I can only imagine how it would be for younger kids. One of the problems with all of it is that fame automatically means backlash. I’m a grown man, I’m comfortable with myself. If someone were to tell me that my record sucks or they hated my show, I can handle that. If I heard that when I was 19? That would’ve broken my heart and it definitely did the multitude of times I heard how bad my band was. You will hear that, no matter what. You’ll hear you’re great too, but nothing sticks with you like an insult. Knowing that, and the pressures a teenager already has on them, I’d think it’d be really horrible to be in the public eye so young. A lot of the ways we utilize celebrity gossip as entertainment or “News,” basically amount to large scale bullying.

I say this of course acknowledging that there are way bigger problems in the world, way harder lives, and way harder places and times to be a young person. My heart goes out to the victims of the recent tornadoes or the civilians living in Libya right now. Tragedy and trauma are obviously harder. 

Still, I can’t help but feel guilty that when I saw that “Friday,” video, I laughed my ass off and showed it to a friend. It didn’t dawn on me until that video had over ten million plays how cold that was.  I’d like to sincerely apologize to Rebecca Black. Sorry to be one of those mean faces in the crowd.

YES. And I was thinking earlier today how that really is, like, hopefully such a sign of Patrick feeling comfortable, in who he is and who his band is and who Pete is and who their fans are lol.

This angle is so devastating. The way Pete giggles and smiles the whole time. The way you can hear Patrick’s giggle and stutter after Pete calls him love.

Also re: Patrick’s outfits (maybe someone has already talked about this idk) I found it interesting that the majority of them were outfits or costumes he didn’t choose for himself whereas iirc more of Pete’s were stuff he dressed himself in. I have some deeply parasocial thoughts about this. 🧐

YES. Most of Pete's were his own fashion choices but I honestly think Patrick's fashion has been so consistent over the years that they showed him in a t-shirt and he was like, "Yes. That's me in my t-shirt-wearing years. When I wore a lot of t-shirts." Then there was another photo of him in a t-shirt and he was like, "Yeah, another t-shirt. Still the t-shirt wearing years."

What I find most hilarious especially was I assume they chose the outfits they did for Patrick to get reactions from him, and so they chose him in the Wentz Is Whack t-shirt and were like, "Ooooh, he's going to talk about Pete now!" And instead Patrick was like, "That's me in a t-shirt, next pictures. Oh, this is me in a music video, LET ME TELL YOU ALL ABOUT WHAT PETE SAID AND ME AND PETE AND HOW COOL PETE IS AND HOW WE WORK TOGETHER AND WHAT PETE'S COSTUME WAS."

Like hahaha do not try to predict that you can make Patrick talk about Pete Wentz, he will talk about Pete Wentz exactly when HE wants to, okay?
