So Very Excited To Start This Book! With Practice, InshaAllah, I’ll Improve My Arabic. Radwa Ashour

So very excited to start this book! With practice, inshaAllah, I’ll improve my Arabic. Radwa Ashour is a novelist, critic, and Professor of English literature in Egypt. Granada is the first part of a trilogy and was named Best Book of the Year by the General Egyptian Book Organization in 1994, and won first prize in the first Arab Women’s Book Fair two years later. The book sends us on a journey as we try to remember the lost shards of Islamic Spain. A work of historical fiction set in the aftermath of the Castilian takeover of the lone Islamic kingdom of Granada in 1492, Granada tells the story of an extended family grappling with the consequences of that political catastrophe for the Muslim community. I have never been so excited to delve into a paperback as I am now. I know once I’m done I’ll need the English version.

This is amazing!! WATCH AN EPISODE! Arthur in Kaqchikel anybody? hehe..

Seriously, this is a great place to learn Lakota. Each episode is only ~13mins long!

Each episode includes:

“Episode Script”  |  You can practice reading along with the script while you’re watching - and practice reading out loud yourself!

“Episode Vocabulary”  |  These are great learning tool- take a look at them before watching an episode and again afterwards, it’s amazing how much you’ll pick up.

“Comprehension Questions”  |  Some of these are actually pretty tough if you are just starting out, but being able to answer them can be a great goal to work towards!

~ A Sufi Story: The Water of Life Once upon a time a wise man said that the day would come when all the water in the world, except that which had been collected and gathered for oneself, would disappear and then different waters would come

to replace what had been lost. But, the wise man continued, anyone who drank the new water would lose their mind. So, one man, took the prophecy seriously and he began to store up water for the coming of the drought. And, the day that had been predicted came and every body of water was emptied out and dried up. The man who had stored up his own supply of water drank from it, while many died. Then, as suddenly as it had gone, the water returned again and the lakes and rivers and streams and wells and ocean all filled up with water again. People thirstfully drank this water and then they went crazy. But the man who had listened to the wise mans prophecy continued to drink from his own supply and he kept his sanity. He was the only sane person left among the madmen and therefore he was called crazy. After a time of being criticized by all as a crazy man, even though he thought and felt that he was the only one who was sane, he poured out his own water onto the ground and he drank the new water. He lost his mind, but, all the madmen now decided that he was sane and welcomed him among them. ♥
