Any advice on making object OCs?
Oh! I appreciate you asking me for advice!
First, I recommend taking inspiration from things from real life. That’s how I made characters like ID and Lab Notebook, those are based on some personal objects I have. But you can take inspiration from basically anything! Even if you make an object oc based on something that’s been done before, you can make something really unique by taking inspiration from a specific item you own.
Second, experiment with where the face and limbs go. Try reorienting whatever object you’re using to see what orientation looks best. Does it work if the object has arms? Legs? Both? Neither? Does it need a whole face? Can it have just eyes? No face? Are there substitutions for the normal face and limbs you could make? Be open to trying stuff.
Third, try not to get too complicated with your design. What appeals to me specifically with objects is they’re pretty easy to draw and don’t have too much detail. Then again, being more detailed can work! Just depends what you prefer.
Fourth, think about how what your oc is affects them. Like how Book from BFB can write a journal in herself, or how Lightbulb from II can glow and electrify things. What can the object do normally? Does it give them abilities? Does it make things complicated for them? You can come up with some interesting scenarios when you explore that aspect of object ocs.
Hope this helps!
I didn't draw anything over the weekend so heres an old redraw I found in my folders!
