(Hi it’s the same person who asked abt the Austria ships!) Since you are the biggest Austria fan, I was wondering if you have any Kugelmugel head canons, specifically their relationship with Austria. Thanks 😊
Hi again!! :D Omg, 'biggest Austria fan', I don't know >/////< But hehe, sounds good~ (o//u//o) <333
I like Kugelmugel as a character (and his character design is great!) although I don't think I have many headcanons about him specifically (note by future me: it turns out I have more than I thought, and I didn't even know lol). ... Btw I use he/him for them, I hope you don't mind!
I think Austria is quite fond and protective of him. He is aware that he hasn't been the best parental figure for Italy when he was little, and although he has made up for it later on when Feli was a little older (like, preteen onwards), he's very happy to have someone like Kugelmugel in his life, it feels a little like a chance to start from scratch with a young Personification and be the kind of caretaker he didn't manage to be in the past due to his own immaturity and younger age. I headcanon he had also tried to take this chance with Ludwig when he was a kid, but because Ludwig left his side relatively early to go live with Prussia, Roderich feels like the chance to prove himself of being a good father figure was taken from him once again after Feli gained independence and left his household. I think, in general, ever since he became a little more mature about his role (circa from late 1600s onwards), he has had the wish to get something at least vaguely resembling an actual family, which would explain the kind of dynamic AusHun+Teen!Feli ended up with even long before Roderich's official union with Erzsebét. But I digress-
So because of this, I think he's very attentive in his relationship with Kugelmugel and he feels sort of blessed that a Micronation happened to be born on his land. I think Kugelmugel actually lives on his own most of the time, but he's free to come over to Roderich's house whenever he pleases. Think of, pretty much, like a little boy having a treehouse that he loves SO MUCH he sometimes even sleeps over there (except instead of "sometimes", it's almost always), but it's not like he's banned from entering his actual family house lol
Canon mentioned that Austria was the one buying Feli clothes when he was still in his house, and it is implied by the similarity of their attire that he does the same for Kugelmugel:
I have this headcanon that, when he did that for Feli, he'd often bring him along and they decided what to buy together, he didn't really impose his own choices on Feli when it came to that although he might've "nudged" him towards the direction of a specific fashion style. So I can imagine him doing something similar for Kugelmugel, he buys him clothes and sometimes brings him along too to choose, and lets Kugelmugel add his own twist to the outfits (also because if he doesn't, Kugel will just give him a headache ranting over and over about how its all about art and symbolism lol).
He also gets him art supplies as a gift (again, something he probably did with Feli as well because Feli is shown to be allowed access to them even back when he was a servant child) and, even if he often thinks Kugelmugel's thinking process and artistic ideas make little sense, he just lets him be and is glad that he can enjoy his awkward, most likely eternal childhood in peace instead of being forced through all kinds of political burdens and expectations like he was.
Remember how, when the other Micronations ask Austria about Kugelmugel, he feels the need to warn them that he's a little weird but makes sure to also tell them to treat him well? I just- This is so freaking important to me????
It's like, Roderich is aware that Kugelmugel is not an easy child to get along with, because he lives so much inside his own world and it's hard to pull him out of his artistic and philosophical train of thoughts, but instead of forcing him out of it (which, as I said earlier, is probably something Roderich himself went through as a child/teen whose wish would've probably been to just be left alone to play music nonstop), he respects him for what he is even if he doesn't always understand him. He would rather ask others to be respectful of Kugelmugel's special interests and not to feel disappointed/frustrated at him, instead of asking Kugelmugel to pretend and perform to be seen as "more palatable" for fellow Micronations (which is what Austria HAD to do for centuries to survive and thrive as an Empire, letting go of his genuine sides and weaponizing his entire demeanour in order to have something worth offering in marriages and alliances).
Austria's character development, especially when it comes to his behavior as a parental-like figure, is HUGE and he's possibly the only character who underwent something like this. Because other characters who have been shown in similar roles (England, France, Sweden, Spain, Turkey, Prussia, etc), afaik, don't show nearly as much development in this aspect, they're either decent at it from the start or will never be. Austria literally goes from a lowkey cartoony "evil stepmother" trope in the beginning of Chibitalia, to someone hinted to truly care a lot about the characters he deems as some kind of adopted children.
Another evidence of this is with Germany in Buon San Valentino. While there's that humorous bit about Austria being sort of tempted at the idea of Germany practicing sex on him, for the rest of the strip he truly acts like a sort of parental figure to him, with Ludwig asking him advice and Roderich going as far as wishing him good luck with his date and asking him to come back before he falls asleep or else he'll worry.
His character development is freaking PEAK.
I honestly do not think Kugelmugel shows his affection much, he's extremely focused on his interests and he acts like nothing else matters much to him. He's not rude, at least not intentionally, but he has none of Feli's need for physical displays of affection and he also overthinks "the art of speech" too much to put into thoughts how he feels about Austria as a caretaker, but he is grateful to have him in his life although he might not often show it.
I think he mostly shows his appreciation by never missing a chance to gift Austria art pieces he made for him at any occasion (occasion can also simply be "I felt like it"), and while Kugelmugel doesn't put into words his liking for Roderich's cooking, he knows the kid liked it when he goes "that thing, it tasted good. I wouldn't hate to eat it again" or something along those lines. Austria also probably tried to teach him how to play piano or violin, but I don't think Kugelmugel is particularly inclined to music. He can play a bit, but would rather listen than play. ... Speaking of which, wouldn't it be cool if Kugelmugel experienced Synesthesia? I think it'd be very fitting for him! <3
Heeeey I have finally time to draw again!
OMG THIS IS BEAUTIFUL
At some kind of negotiations, except they share a singular braincell and they fight each other who gets to use it.
[Loads of yapping under the cut.]
This was supposed to be set in 1605-ish, around the outsets of Jülich succession crisis. Let’s pretend a fucking lamp is not there okay??Prussia is still a Polish fief duchy, so kinda irrelevant? Well, nevermind, he got dragged in as it is Anna of Prussia who carried Brandenburg‘s Electors‘ claim to Jülich-Kleve. And along with her husband, the Elector‘s son, she was in favour of more decisive actions regarding Jülich, as far as a pre-emptive strike. Whereas the Elector himself hesitated, supporting a more cautious approach.
At that point Prussia knows what is coming.(okay, maybe Brandenburg‘s Elector marrying the younger sister of his own son‘s wife juuuuust to make sure no other family ever gets a chance to claim Prussia was a bit too— nevermind). He got the point. He knows he has no other option really, and that he and Johann are kind of…stuck in this ever since the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order happened to be a Hohenzollern. And thus he makes what he can out of it, trying out what strings he can pull and when.
After all, he‘s painfully aware that Johann may seem like a schemer with a long-term plan, but in fact? Will hesitate and push for neutrality when a firm decision is most needed. If Brandenburg is good at something, that is masking his indecisiveness with cautiousness. And Prussia wonders how, or rather when he will be able to use this to his advantage…
[this writing stuff is very experimental and very much a WIP and both interpretations and characterisations are subject to change !!! Be warned !!!]
Oh, yeah looks like I have my time to create stuff back? I was just testing that one technique when you draw stuff in grayscale and then colour it. It‘s torture, but damn, I like the result. Shit took 4 days to render. And I just gave up on the bg sorry not sorry.
Meh, It’s always „how do you get along?” and not „how do you even get. there. at the first place.” I was just thinking – 700-ish km between Berlin and Königsberg. Imagine. 2-3 weeks horseback through swamp sand and shit and you’re there except it’s too late and noone cares. Must’ve been hell.
By the way physically they‘re..? 15-16, I would say here? Brandenburg is a bit older, not really much, but he‘s taller lol.
