His voice is quiet, near hesitant. You gape at the table, burdened with an assortment of desserts: petits fours, butter biscuits, scones . . . My God, just how long has he been in that kitchen?

You look up, only to see yet another tray of snickerdoodles in his hands. His gloves——even his mask——are daubed with frosting and cake batter. “. . . You plan on sharing this with the others, yes?”

He cocks his head, ponytail swaying. “They are for you,” he says rather simply.

Your gaze flicks to the dozens of desserts covering the counters, then back to him. “. . . Really?”
