hello!! I'm starting to look into information on Lucifer, and I'm running into some road blocks. I was wondering if u knew if thr author Asenath Mason was a good source or not? i am incredibly hesitant about accidentally stepping on a landmine, so to speak

So I have not managed to get through any of her books in full but she did multiple collabs with E. A. Koetting who is a murder-encouraging nazi charlatan and some with Michael Ford who is also very sketchy when it comes to fascism (explained in the linked post by @alephskoteinos) and she also wrote multiple books on Qliphoth (appropriating and bastardizing Kabbalah, which many Jewish people stated is harmful) so I wouldn't call her a good source.

From books written by practitioners, from what I remember The Luminous Stone edited by Michael Howard was nice. I can't say agree with everything, but I recommend it because it shows many perspectives on Lucifer from those who work with her, without, you know, nazi shit. Unfortunately I don't know any books specifically on Luciferian practice worth recommending, but learning more generally about working with and veneration of entities in general can be a great help because while many things may differ, many principles are pretty common. Also if witchcraft is your thing, more folklore-based practices can incorporate Devil figures much more often than ones shaped by Wicca, so there are many options of including Lucifer, especially in his more folkloric aspect.

From academic works, Children of Lucifer by Ruben Van Luijk and The Devil's Party edited by Per Faxneld and Jesper Petersen are good for general history (they speak about Satanism but also about Luciferianism bc it is very intertwined). They will not give you a guide on how to practice, but will give you a general understanding of many ideas common in Luciferianism and where they come from which is very important. Another personal favorite is Satanic Feminism by Faxneld, which is an exploration of how Satan/Lucifer started to be connected with liberation (feminism in particular) in 19th century.

Origins of Satan (written by a professor but more accessible than academic works are from what I remember) is an important read on the politics of how Satan was used to "demonize" various groups of people.

Also Paradise Lost but imo when you get more context on its role in Satanism, Children of Lucifer should suffice.

Luciferian feminine - without appropriation

One of the most popular beings venerated in modern Luciferianism (as well as Satanism), besides Lucifer himself, is Lilith. That is unfortunate, as she is a being exclusive to a closed religion. People will say she is an ancient goddess and not originally Jewish - that is not true. Jewish Lilith is connected with certain other beings and classes of beings, but is not the same, and the whole story with her being the first wife of Adam and becoming wife of Samael is Jewish. As I’m not Jewish myself, I will link @will-o-the-witch ’s blog. She wrote extensively on Lilith appropriation and misconceptions surrounding her. Quite prominent Eisheth Zenunim, Agrat and Naamah are also exclusive to Judaism.

However, there are many fascinating feminine figures a Luciferian can research and potentially work with that are open. They come from various places, but all have some established connections with Lucifer and the infernal.

First of all, Eve is often contrasted with Lilith and depicted as some docile ancient tradwife archetype. And this makes totally no sense, because Eve ate the fruit, and shared it with Adam. She was the one who dared to reach for knowledge and give it to humanity, and was misogynistically reviled for it in Christianity for centuries. The story of Eden is so important in modern Luciferianism, and yet, Eve remains tragically underappreciated. People will say they want to reclaim a reviled feminine figure and that’s why they appropriate Lilith, and at the same time completely remove Eve’s agency from her story.

image

Speaking of Lucifer, he is not strictly male - they are a fallen angel, which makes them nonbinary. They are a very androgynous, fluid, shapeshifting being. And while masculine depictions are more prominent, there’s lots of lore with her assuming a feminine form as well. If you want to explore Luciferian feminine, I think feminine aspects of Lucifer themself are really worth looking at.

Some other demons associated with femininity are: Astaroth (connected to ancient goddess Astarte), Vepar (depicted as a mermaid) and Gremory (depicted as a beautiful woman). That said, none of them should be approached with the assumption of being women or always presenting feminine in any culture’s terms. They’re not women, they’re demons, and they are not bound to any human concepts of gender. They will do whatever they want. The same applies generally to any being of angelic origins. (Please note that while grimoires include many open spirits, they also include a lot of appropriation so check origins of things before diving into stuff. This is not just about entities - you can very much approach a non-exclusive being with techniques that are bastardized elements of Judaism.)

image

The goddess Diana in Aradia is depicted as Lucifer’s partner, and Aradia is their daughter who came to Earth to teach oppressed people witchcraft. While the book’s authenticity is still disputed academically, it influenced modern witchcraft greatly.* It can be particularly interesting for Luciferian witches, as well as anyone whose Luciferianism is connected to social justice.

Diana’s role in Aradia is influenced by her role as a Witch Goddess and a Fairy Queen in post-christianisation folklore. Both witches and fairies often have infernal associations in that folklore. The Fairy Queen, or various specific Fairy Queens, were sometimes connected with the Lucifer as the Folk Devil, who could be depicted as their partner and even a Fairy King himself. Interested in folkloric Luciferianism? Check out the Fairy Queen.

While I’m not aware of anything connecting her specifically with Lucifer that wouldn’t be modern, Hekate in post-antique folklore shares not only Diana’s role as a Witch Goddess, but also her connection to the fairies and infernal associations - the depiction of those two in that context is more often than not very similar. William Warner in Albion’s England describes her as Queen of Hell (not simply Greek Hades, but Hell, and possibly the fairy realms as well).

image

And finally, even though she comes from Thelema, not Luciferianism or Satanism, Babalon, the Whore of Babylon goddess, is quite popular among many LHP practicioners, including Luciferians and Satanism. If you’re interested in Lilith because you associate her with untamed sexuality, you can check out Babalon.

As I wanted to include many beings in that post, I don’t have experience with every single one of them, but if you have some questions about Diana or Aradia, and especially about Hekate (with whom I worked the longest) you can send asks, they are very prominent in my practice and I might be able to help.

*cw for a few myths involving sexual assault, and one passage that is antisemitic and anti-Romani. While Aradia is a historically important text for modern witchcraft, it should be questioned and should never be treated as a literal gospel.

Demon-A-Day: Vepar

Demon-A-Day: Vepar

VEPAR – Duke

Color: Green

Incense: Sandalwood

Metal: Copper

Planet: Venus

Element: Water (Under Amaymon)

Demonic Enn: On ca Vepar ag na

Date (Connolly): May 11-20 (Night Time)

Date (Runyon): Oct 18-22

Archangel: Raphael

Origin: ?

Original Text from the Ars Goetia:

The Forty-second Spirit is Vepar, or Vephar. He is a Duke Great and Strong and appeareth like a Mermaid. His office is to govern the Waters, and to guide Ships laden with Arms, Armour, and Ammunition, etc., thereon. And at the request of the Exorcist he can cause the seas to be right stormy and to appear full of ships. Also he maketh men to die in Three Days by Putrefying Wounds or Sores, and causing Worms to breed in them. He governeth 29 Legions of Spirits, and his Seal is this, etc.

Other citations of note:

In an initiatory context, Vepar is a spirit who is of the Leviathanc Spirits, of the subconscious and water. In this, Vepar appears in dreams as a fluid-like gray mermaid who has deep blue or black eyes. Vepar may gather and guard servitors who go forth by the dreaming gnosis, and reveal secrets of the self long buried.

From the Luciferian Goetia by Michael Ford

Vepar is an excellent deamon to invoke if you want to explore your emotions or behaviors prior to making a change. Good for cursing toxic emotions as well.

From the Daemonolatry Goetia by S. Connolly

Vepar is a great water demon, and can ensure safety when you’re out and about in her domain. She can also work in more figurative affairs, and helping you understand your emotions and protecting you when you feel like you’re out in unknown territory. She’s also pretty good at keeping men away and at bay. She also goes by Vephar and belongs to no other demonic hierarchies.

Demonic Ranking System: Fabulously Dangerous

So she’s really into making men suffer, which is fabulous and all, but that probably means she could fuck you up if you mess things up. She’s great for keeping you safe and making you feel good, and also for fucking up other people. So, mess with at your own risk, and you should probably cover up any wounds with some festive band aids. Just in case.

SYMBOLISM OF BAPHOMET

SYMBOLISM OF BAPHOMET

Baphomet is obviously androgynous, with female breasts and the very phallic caduceus, representing the union of male and female.

The wings represent spirituality and ascension while the goat’s head represents sin and the animalistic nature of humans.

The wings represent Air and birds, the scales on its belly represent Water and fish, and its hooves represent Earth and mammals. The torch represents Fire.

The gesture that Baphomet is making with its hands represents the Hermetic Principle of Correspondence, “That which is above is like that which is below.” The “above” is the macrocosm, either the literal universe at large or the divine realms. The “below” is the microcosm, life on earth or the human body itself. And if you affect one, you affect the other.

The words on its arms, “solve” and “coagula,” mean “to separate” and “to bring together.” They summarize the alchemical process.

The torch on its head represents intelligence, divine knowledge, and enlightenment, the soul over the body. The pentagram on its head is upright, putting spirit above matter.

The white and black moon represent the sephiroth Chesed and Geburah (respectively), therefore the qualities of mercy and severity (respectively).

The caduceus in its lap, in addition to being a phallic symbol, is representative of magical power, healing, and bringing together of opposites. (Apparently also eternal life.)

The circle behind the caduceus is reminiscent of the Ouroboros, representing the Principle of Mentalism — all of the universe is in the mind of God. It also apparently represents the atmosphere, probably the “cosmic Void,” prima materia.

Baphomet is a personification of the process of magic. And yet for some reason, all people seem to remember is the goat’s head.

so i might be stepping out of line making this post but i feel it needs to be made so yolo i guess.

i know a lot of millenials have a sort of knee-jerk negative reaction towards abrahamic religions (really mostly christianity and judaism) and i understand. really, i get it. my dad is a pastor, and he used his religon to abuse, demean, and control me at every opportunity. he regularly tells my sisters that he’s “so sad im going to hell” and other sundry passive aggressive nonsense, so trust me i get it. i understand how a certain religion can be triggering to someone.

but there is a very important point here, and i really hope you understand this.

you cannot let it make you prejudiced, and, let me be clear here, im talking specifically about antisemitism.

i know exactly whats going on in your head, because for a long time it was what was going on in my head. you hear the word “judaism” and you have flashbacks to sunday school and the old testament and all the times you sat in a church and felt personally attacked, and you associate that with judaism and jewish people because most of the things that upset you were in the old testament.

you can have your triggers, but you can’t let those triggers become an excuse to further marginalize a minority thats already attacked from literally every position of power there is. every major religion has leaders who are antisemitic, every country has a history of marginalizing jewish people, every person on the planet grows up in an inherently antisemitic world and has to unlearn that sort of toxic mindset.

and maybe this post should have been made by a jewish person, or somebody with more education on the subject than me but i think its really important that people don’t let their personal experiences with organized religion turn them into the kind of prejudiced person that hurt them in the first place.

as a romni i have a shared tragedy with jewish people, so i feel like it was easier for me to step back and be like “woah, your thought process here is super toxic and you need to stop” but i feel like a lot of white christian-raised people don’t really have that touchstone and need somebody to be like “wake up, what you are doing is wrong”

🗻🌊Skye’s Landlocked Sea Witch Tips🌊🗻

I’ve seen a lot of aspiring sea witches being discouraged due to not living anywhere near the ocean. And I’m here to tell you that you can still be a sea witch and be landlocked! Being landlocked will only hinder you if you let it.

So, let’s get going!

🌊Making Your Own Sea Water🌊

🗻🌊Skye’s Landlocked Sea Witch Tips🌊🗻

You will need:

🌊A jar/air tight bottle. I find a swing cap bottle works best

🌊Sea salt, eyeball amount depending on jar size

🌊Warm spring water

Ground and centre. Listen to ocean sounds and visualise and feel the power of the sea. Connect with the ocean by doing a Sinking/sea centering.

Pour the water into the jar. Add the sea salt. Mix until the salt has dissolved.

Hold the jar in both hands in front of your heart, saying:

“🐚 Mother ocean, from whom life flows, Bless this water with your love and nurturing power, your endless beauty and strength, For this I am grateful. So mote it be 🐚”

(Feel free to replace mother ocean with the name of your sea deity, if you have one)

Close your eyes. Continue to hold the jar at your heart and visualise the ocean. With your hands, feel the sea’s energy emanating from the jar. When the feeling is strong, open your eyes. Your sea water is ready to use.

🌊🔊Sea Sound Scapes🔊🌊

🗻🌊Skye’s Landlocked Sea Witch Tips🌊🗻

Your sea water can be placed in a bowl and you have the ocean right there. Combine that with the sound scape, listening to the waves coming in and going out. Synch that with any spell work you want to do regarding waves, tides, giving things to mother ocean etc. With me, I place things in the bowl and then pour the water and item (if it’s eco friendly) in the stream near my house.

I also use this technique to place myself at the beach through the senses. Hold a seashell or touch some sand, taste some salt, listen to ocean sounds, have an image or video of the sea, and if you can (I struggle with this) have a scent that’s ocean themed. I’ve struggled to find one as most scented candles labelled sea breeze smell like soap… And with this, you can perform rituals and workings centered around that water you made. Through your visualisation skills you can be by the sea, even when you physically aren’t. Cool, huh?!

💙You Are Ocean💙

The ocean is within you. It’s your blood, the sweat, your tears, your breath, your pulse. The ocean has a rhythm, so does the human body. We’re 65% water. And what’s even cooler is we also have a tide. The moon affects the body’s fluids, just like it affects the ocean. These ideas have really helped me with my craft because being landlocked, I’m sometimes like “how can I connect with the sea?” So knowing I have a tide and the rhythm of the sea, which is like the rhythm of pulse, just totally blows my mind and amazes me!

💧💦Inland Water💦💧

🗻🌊Skye’s Landlocked Sea Witch Tips🌊🗻

Now this is something that kinda quenches my sea thirst. If you can, travel to a nearby lake, river, stream etc. Sit near it. Connect with it. Follow your intuition and connect with its energy. Ask Mother Ocean/Your water deity to help you.

Honestly, I’ve been in meditation near freshwater and the smell, if I focus enough, reminds me of the sea air and it literally transports me in my mind and senses to the beach. And that’s one of my vital tools in my craft. (talk about water being adaptable and water witches doing the same, eh?!)

🛀🚿Bath & Shower Magic🚿🛀

🗻🌊Skye’s Landlocked Sea Witch Tips🌊🗻

🌊Bath bombs. Look up their ingredients to know the correspondences, or, just make up your own. Lush are honestly amazing and their products have been used a lot in my bath rituals

🌊Sallllttssss! You can make a saltwater bath, meditate and relax and really tap into that ocean energy

🌊Bath tub altar. Have a little altar going on when you take a bath. Shells, candles, incense, trinkets you’ve collected or purchased, statues. Anything you have that makes you feel connected with the sea

🌊 You can use crystals that correspond to water if you like. Aquamarine, moonstone, fluorite, amethyst, labradorite, selenite and rose quartz are just a few examples. If you’re putting crystals in your tub please research which ones are water safe!

🌊Herbs and oils. You can add these to your bathtub. Please research again. Some herbs are toxic and some you may be allergic to. The same with oils, as some people have allergic reactions to them! I don’t often use herbs and oils for this reason. I get irritated skin very easily. I use coconut oil in my bath for purification and I just looooove coconut oil and the scent. Also its amazing for your skin! I use lavender oil and that’s literally it. I use oils outside of the tub, though. For candle dressing and other spell work.

🌊And if you don’t have a bathtub, all of those above ingredients and can be made into shower scrubs! They’re super easy to make and there’s a tonne of amazing tutorials around online!

🌊Meditate or work in the shower. Feel that water flowing down and through you, allow it to cleanse and charge you. Go with your intuition and explore the possibilities

🌩🌪️☄️Weather☄️🌪️🌩️

🗻🌊Skye’s Landlocked Sea Witch Tips🌊🗻

Weather. It all begins at sea. Snow, rain, thunder storms, winds, hail. Its all from the sea. The water is ocean water that’s traveled to the land. Weather magic is just a more expanded form of sea magic. Go out and let the rain cleanse you, collect weather water of any kind and make your sea water with it! Feel the power of a storm and focus on how much energy the sea has during that time. Feel her with you when you are on land! Remember to stay safe when practising weather magic, too.

🐚✨Seashell Magic✨🐚

🗻🌊Skye’s Landlocked Sea Witch Tips🌊🗻

And if you have seashells, they have amazing uses and correspondences. Offering bowls, amulets, charms, talismans, runes, charging items and so on. I highly recommend the book Sea Magic by Sandra Kynes as a lot of the tips I’ve given you were inspired or taken from that book :)

A quick PSA regarding seashells:

If your shells are store bought, they may not be ethically sourced. Some craft stores sell them by the many so try to be wary of this. It’s down to your moral compass whether or not you decide to use them in your craft. And if you do choose to use them, I advise cleansing them before any magical use. Furthermore, do not purchase nautilus shells, starfish or seahorses. Nautilus shells are endangered. Star fish and sea horses are taken alive, then killed to be sold in stores.

I really hope this helped! Have a swishy day! 🌊💙And if you have any questions, feel free to ask :)
