synopsis: Your relationship with Renjun was strictly professional, albeit amicable. He would create beautiful ceramic vases that you’d commission for your display, and you supplied him with a collection of seeds he’d use to grow his own personal garden in his balcony. Renjun always felt like you two were walking around a glass vase that would break with a single wrong step, but sometimes he feels like he needs to make that first step into finally knocking it over.

a/n: idk man in japan vocaloid’s sort of having a revival and i’ve realized how creative a lot of these songs are. so i have to give a shoutout to balloon/suda keina for creating “i touched a vase.” he makes beautiful music. also “flos”. the first thing i described when i listened to both songs was “oh man it’s such a renjun song” so this fic was born. 

The place that Renjun feels at ease the most is his studio. The low hums of the pottery wheels reverberated across the vast emptiness of his four white walls as he continued to shape his recent work. A string of sighs escaped his lips as he continued to dirty his fingernails with the smooth batter of clay. He’s shaped a myriad of ceramics, but his fingers can never be satisfied. Did he put too much clay? Was it not enough? Is the shape suitable for the design he thought of painting?

He was always a perfectionist—even more so after meeting you.

“Do you remember Jung Jaehyun?” Yeri asked as she swept a stray piece of hair out of her face and tucked it behind her ear. Her other hand rested lazily on the steering wheel of her car, the road ahead was straight and empty enough that she didn’t have to worry too much about the traffic around her. It still made you nervous, then again, most cars made you nervous. It wasn’t that you hated them, just a few poor decisions by drivers had caused more than enough in insurance claims to last you a lifetime. Something inside of you thought you were a magnet for bad luck.

Notes: This was a request :) I wasn’t sure if you wanted gender neutral or not, or if you wanted anything specific with Cupid! Jisung, but this is what I ended up with! I hope you like it and enjoy since this was quite fun and a nice prompt to try and get out of this writers block,,

Jisung peeks around the side of his menu, watching you take another sip of water from your cup. This is probably the 5th blind date he’s set you up on, but every single one has failed. When you turn in his direction, he immediately hides behind the menu again, only looking around when he’s sure you’ve looked away.

“Gosh, why are you so hard to deal with?!” He’s whispering to himself while pulling out his phone, finding the app he needs to shoot another arrow at you. Jisung watches the screen, guiding the small arrow along until it’s about to hit your neck. He hesitates only for a moment before letting it pierce your skin, looking up just in time to see you swat at the same spot.

“Are there mosquitoes in here or something?” Your voice is faint from where he is, but the slight dilation of your eyes and the shimmer that’s supposed to happen doesn’t, making Jisung groan again. He lets his head fall into his arms, softly banging his forehead against his crossed arms before peeking over at you again, only to find that you’re gone.

“Hey, what are you doing? I thought you said you weren’t going to spy on me this time?” Jisung jumps from his seat, pushing his glasses up and straightening his clothes as you laugh at him.

“I came to spy on you since you said you’d give this guy a chance! What happened with Soobin?” You sigh, pulling the seat across from Jisung out.

“He was sweet, a really nice guy, but just… I didn’t feel anything with him. You don’t have to keep setting me up on dates you know.” Silence ensues as Jisung leans back in his chair, running a hand through his hair.

“I know, I just want to see you happy though.” You purse your lips, glaring at him with a slightly annoyed expression.

“I’m perfectly fine right now, thank you very much,” You pause, “especially since you make me happy too.” Jisung wills the heat in his cheeks to stay back, the waitress with his drink saving him the trouble.

“Thank you! For my, uh, hot chocolate and cake?” You raise a brow, watching the worker smile at Jisung and slip a paper on the table beside his plate.

“It’s on the house, my number too.” She’s not even out of earshot when you fake gag, giving her a sarcastic smile when she turns to glare at you.

“Let’s just go, ok?” You stand before Jisung can say otherwise, hurrying after you while grabbing his drink and taking a large bite out of the cake.

“Wait-!” He starts coughing, quickly hitting his chest in an attempt to clear his throat.

“Your legs are long, you’ll catch up just fine!” You can hear Jisung whine, but you refuse to turn around and instead continue speed walking back to your house. You’re still a bit irked, both because of Jisung setting you up on another date and now that waitress from the cafe. It hurts, if you’re being honest, having Jisung continuously try to get you to date someone when you like him, and that girl only added fuel to the fire as a reminder that you’re definitely not the only one.

“Are you mad?” Jisung’s timid voice snaps you out of your thoughts, making you feel guilty for a split second before you remember you’re annoyed at him.

“No, just a bit annoyed. I’m still not sure why you keep trying to set me up with all these guys.” You give him glare before stepping up into your apartment building.

“I already told you, I want you to be happy, you know?” He doesn’t sound very confident though, so you roll your eyes and jab the up bottom for the elevator.

“And who are you to decide that? You’re not responsible for finding someone for me to love!” Jisung mumbles something underneath his breath, but you don’t quite catch it and grow more irritated, hitting your floor number so hard Jisung snaps his head up to look at you in concern.

“Look, I’m sorry, ok? Can you maybe go on just one more date? Then I’ll be out of your hair, I promise!” You don’t answer him, walking out of the elevator when it opens to head towards your door. You type in the number key angrily, not even holding it open for Jisung so that it closes in his face. While he’s hurriedly typing in the code too, you’re in the kitchen pouring yourself a glass of water.

“Is your silence a yes or no?” Jisung shouts once he finally gets the door open, trotting in after you with a nervous expression.

“It’s a no! How many people do I need to reject for you to get the hint? I’m not going to date any of them!” You slam your cup down on the counter, paying no mind to the water that sloshes out.

“Ok, ok, you don’t have to be so mad… You think I want to keep doing this? It’s not my fault that-!” Jisung cuts himself off, eyes widening.

“It’s not my fault that… Jaemin! Jaemin keeps telling me to help you since we’ve been friends for so long!” You can clearly tell Jisung is lying, so you narrow your eyes at him with one hand on your hip.

“Tell me the truth, Sung. I’ve known you for longer than either of us can remember, I’ll know when you’re lying.” He seems to cower under your glare, avoiding your gaze before you take a step towards him.

“I’m not supposed to tell you, I’m-!” You lunge for him, just barely missing the material of his hoodie before chasing him around your apartment.

“Out with it, come on! I thought we didn’t keep secrets from each other!” You round the corner of the table, fingers ghosting Jisung’s arm before he darts away again.

“This is the only secret I have, I promise!” Jisung glances back at you, yelping when you’re right on his tail.

“Ok, so tell me! I don’t have any secret-!” A shrill scream escapes your lips when you slip on the wood flooring and fall forwards, letting out a groan of pain.

“Are you ok?!” Jisung kneels in front of you, hands hovering over your body like he doesn’t know what to do.

“Just peachy… But I’d be better if you told me what you’re keeping from me. You know I wouldn’t tell anyone.” You sit up and watch Jisung ponder your words, his cheeks puffed up and eyebrows furrowed as he hesitates.

“Ok… I’ll tell you. But you can’t tell anyone! Nobody at all!” You nod eagerly, sitting up straighter as Jisung sits cross legged across from you.

“I’m like a Cupid.” Is all he says, no other explanation given as you look at him in confusion.

“That… Makes no sense, do you think I’m dumb? What are you really not telling me?” Jisung groans, ruffling his hair.

“I’m serious! I wasn’t always one, but it kind of runs in my family? When I turned 18 is when they told me, and I was assigned to help you find someone only two months ago!” You still don’t believe his story, getting up to walk away in disappointment.

“If you were going to lie, at least make it believable.”

“I’m not lying! That’s why I’ve been trying to set you up and follow you every time, I have to be able to see you to shoot the arrow. When you thought a mosquito bit you earlier, it was because of me!” You try to think back on all the times you’d felt a prick during your blind dates, crossing your arms and turning to look at him.

“Ok, then what are your arrows? Prove it to me!” Jisung pulls out his phone and opens an app, pointing to his screen with determination.

“I use the screen to guide the arrow, but only Cupid’s can physically see it. If I prick you with it, you’ll start to fall in love with whoever you’re supposed to be set up with. Here, I’ll even poke you and prove my point. They never seem to work on you for some reason though…” You wait for the feeling of being bit by a bug, staring at your arm when it feels a poke.

“See, it never works! Your eyes are supposed to dilate and...” Jisung trails off, watching your eyes dilate slightly and shimmer over briefly before you blink, looking at him with a raised brow.

“I don’t think it worked, I feel the same.” You watch panic start to set in, his hands waving frantically.

“But it did! You did exactly what was supposed to happen, except it was directed at me. This wasn’t supposed to happen, mom and dad are going to kill and think I was being selfish now!” Jisung continues to ramble, but his last words have piqued your interest.

“What do you mean by being selfish?” He stops mid sentence, blinking in shock.

“I didn’t say that…” A smile starts to tug at your lips, your head tilting.

“Do you like me Jisung?” He shakes his head no, but the bright red that starts to blossom across his cheeks says otherwise.

“No, I don’t! I mean, I like you, but I don’t like like you-.”

“I don’t need a Cupid’s arrow to make me fall in love when I already love you.” You watch him stare at you with wide eyes, realization sinking in when he processes your words.

“You love me?” You nod, smile growing wider when he seems to look relieved.

“Oh, thank god... I’ve been pining ever since middle school.” Jisung’s hands shoot over his mouth, trying to hide his face out of embarrassment.

“You liked me first?” Your voice has a twinge of amusement as you step forward to pull his hands away from his face, Jisung pouting at you.

“Ok, so what if I liked you first?” He’s sulking, but it only makes you coo at him.

“Do you wanna be my boyfriend then? Will that make you feel better?” You laugh when Jisung nods without a word, wrapping his arms around you to bury his face into the crook of your neck.

“You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting to ask that.” You say happily, pressing a sweet kiss to his temple with a soft laugh.

“Yeah, I think I do… Except I wanted to ask you.” Jisung pulls away at that, looking down at you with a gentle gaze before asking.

“Can I be your boyfriend?” You giggle, nodding and pulling him forward for a kiss.

“Of course you can.” You murmur against his lips, feeling him smile before he wraps you in another warm hug

You didn’t mean to make Jaehyun your fake boyfriend, it just happened.

This thing is based on a thing that happened to my friend (minus the Jaehyun coming to her rescue). So you know, if some guy is being creepy to you, just pretend you have a boyfriend/girlfriend/s/o because fuck creepy dudes.
