Persephone is stuck in a time loop. Every year she gets abducted, screaming and crying and grasping for the light, and every year her mother raises hell. Every year they reunite, only to have it all start all over again. We sing the hymn to break them out of it, but since without it they have no reason to exhibit their divine power, they never will. So we sing it again and again.
