Me trying to upload AO3
On this day 54 years ago (April 25, 1967), the Beatles began recording the song “Magical Mystery Tour”. The song would become the title of their third film, the surreal and psychedelic Magical Mystery Tour. The film was burned by critics, citing a lack of coherent plot line and sloppy acting. The movie was Paul McCartney’s attempt at motivating the band to work again after the untimely death of their beloved manager Brian Epstein.
Crying my eyes out when I started watching the Now and Then documentary.
The video started with Come Together's opening riff, how symbolic is that?
"I am ready to sing for the world." John Lennon says, not something we heard for the first time.
But still it made me cry.
I really lost it when John's voice came through with the help of technology. Paul announcing and "then, there it was John's voice crystal clear":
and know it's true, it's all because of you. And if I make it through, it's all because of you.
And then with the additions of Paul's bass, Ringo's drums, George's guitar, violins and orchestra in beatlesque fashion, of course it's going to be amazing.
It's the last Beatles record.
How gut wrenching and beautiful. Four lads from Liverpool still conquering the world in 2023.
They finally had enough
Can we talk about Your School?
Recorded in 1984, never released (except a clip on Oobu Joobu)
We're gonna talk it out someday All that is nearest and dearest I want it, you want it, they want it too And me? I want to love you Come on baby ... what have you've got Tell me that I learned a lot in your school, your school... I never thought [it meant/I'd learn] so much I'm just a poor fool in love, your school... I never felt the gentle touch until ..... I met you Oohhh you better tell me all you know Concerning this situation oohhoohooh I'd like, you'd like it, they always do... Me? I still wanna love you
I can't help but interpret this as Paul desperately wishing for a really deep and public reconciliation with John.
Two lyrics it puts me in mind of:
I never give you my number I only give you my situation And in the middle of investigation I break down
You Never Give Me Your Money
and
You must have learned something in all those years
How Do You Sleep
what if I just jumped off a bridge
