"Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night May become a wolf when the wolf's bane blooms, and the autumn moon is bright."
Lover I donāt know how to reach you anymore. Iāve struggled with how to tell you but I fill the void with busy conversationā¦keep it rolling so itās not obvious how either of us have changed. Youāre so enraptured with your fix and how it molds your world that Iām a hit on a pinball machine and you just want DING DING to my moves. Round and around you spin but you never land as an ace in my rounds. Youāre gone. Rolling thru my everyday as a moment I canāt grasp, a move I never took and I cling to the hope that if I make one alteration I can avoid the altercation and carry you from point A to B and bring us both home but home is a concept that we both have left for dead as weāve moved from A to B to C to numbers and our equations donāt equate to anything we thought would beā¦ā¦ā¦us.
Youāre gone. But Iām here and youāre there and we are forever moving, like stars, rotating around polite and sincere ways to avoid what we both know would be the conversation to collide our beliefs with what we think our fears would bring to what we are in our natural state- a fear. That neither of us are right, but both searching, fervently, for a solution to what we believe is life and how to cure the symptom we have come to call hope. And I hope this finds you well. Because If it doesnāt, I donāt know how to tell you I am scared. Scared of what might find you if I donāt lie and tell you that I donāt know how to hope for something you continuously show me to have proven false. You are not alone but I am not with you. I try to stay in your field of vision but what I say I see is a dream that I fear is but a dream within a dream. And we are not free.
Desire turns us into ghosts.

āIn the 1930ā²s, Carl Jung became interested in the ancient art of alchemy. While alchemyās outward agenda was transmuting base metal into gold, Jung thought the alchemistsā work was also a projection of inner workings reflecting a process of maturation and development within the human psyche. Mermaids appear in alchemical texts and engravings as guides leading the alchemist on his way. An engraving in one alchemical text shows two mermaids leading the alchemist. One leads him in the direction of the baby; the other leads him to the city of God. In alchemy, the mermaid is a guide to the nature of the human mind, representing both what is human and what is animal and the necessity of reconciling the two into a coherent and lasting whole. The main difference the alchemists and others is that the alchemists saw, believed in, and followed their mermaids - even when they led in two different directions. One alchemical text contains this motto:Ā āLet nature be your guide; follow her with your art willingly, like a footman, For you will err if she is not your companion on your way.ā Jungās wife, Emma, wrote that as a symbol the mermaid wants toĀ āentangleā us in āreal relationships.ā She drags a man underwater not always to drown him, but sometimes to bathe him in the waters of life.
Mermaids are symbols - and who knows, maybe actual beings - that have been with us throughout history, reminding us of our relationship to the objective world, the rhythms of nature, the sound of water crashing on a beach, the way light moves across the surface of a wide bay, and the corresponding ripples of feeling they create within us.ā ~Theodore Gachot fromĀ āMermaids: Nymphs of the Seaā
