Genji x reader - Under the stars

Being an agent in overwatch was a rewarding yet an enduringtask. The people you’ve met had changed your life for the better. People likeLena, Jesse, Hana they all always made your day much more bearable and youenjoyed every single second you spend with these people. However, the personwho made every waking moment a fruitful and filled with such merriment was noneother than the younger Shimada, Genji. His good natured teasing, sassy commentsand comforting hugs were among the things you loved about the cyborg. The twoof you became instant friends when you first stepped foot in the overwatchbase. You always laugh whenever you recall your first meeting with Genji.

Flash back

This was your firstday as an agent in overwatch. A place responsible for the world’s safety inconjunction with the UN. A place for nothing but serious matter and being aresponsible adult.

You held a box ofnecessary item you needed for the day, mainly consisted of your trainingclothes and couple of other things.

You walked down thepristine white halls, agents quietly conversing amongst themselves. Thoughts ofbeing the new recruit clouded your mind.

‘How will I even makefriends, everyone is so serious around here! I must not disappoint thesuperiors, can’t risk getting scolded on the first day and destroy myreputation before I even start’ you rambled in your mind, lost in your thoughtsyou didn’t realise the rapid sound of heavy footsteps as you turned the corner.

As you turned, you were hit with such a heavyimpact your box flew several meters and you harshly fell on your butt with aheavy weight on top of you. You shut your eyes as you fell.

‘Argh, injured on thefirst day, great’ you mentally thought.

“Oww” you softly letout, slowly fluttering your eyes open and met face to face with a cyborg mask.

“I guess you couldsay, I fell for you” The person who fell on you said with a teasing tone.

Your face immediatelyburned up as you pushed the male off you. He fell with a thud and an “Oof”sound. You promptly stood up and looked around.

Laughter could beheard as two more people rounded the corner.

“Genji! That was theworst pick up line ever” one of the Girls said in her thick British accent.

“Even McCree would’vehad a smoother line Gen” The other smaller girl laughed.

Their gaze then fellon your sheepish form standing there. You tried to avoid their gaze.

“OH! You must be thenew recruit, I’m Hana!” the smaller girl introduced herself as he made her wayto you and hugged you. You hesitantly hugged back.

“Sorry about this,love. I’m Lena by the way” The British girl said as she held out her hand. Youshook it and introduced yourself.

The male began gettingup, rubbing his behind.

“That loser is Genji.I bet you didn’t expect this sorta welcome here” Hana laughed.

“Far from it actually,didn’t think I’d get rugby tackled by a ninja” You laughed as you looked atGenji.

He let out a heartfeltlaugh which made your heart flutter with excitement.

“Didn’t think a littlegirl like you could throw me and my charm off that easily” He replied withtraces of teasing and good natured tone.

A smile graced yourfeatures as you giggled at his retort. You held out your hand for an actualintroduction.

“Let me introducemyself properly, I’m [y/n] nice to meet ya” You smiled.

“I’m your friendlyneighbourhood ninja, Genji” He said as he shook your hand with a firm grip.

Lena and Hana lookedat each other with a clear grins as they knew it would blossom into somethingmore than a friendship.

You spent all day, every day with the cyborg whenever you had days off. The pair of you became inseparable after that day. Even during missions where both of you were paired, it was always seen as asuccessful mission. Then you two would often lounge on the roof under the stars and just crack jokes with each other. It was always soothing andcomforting having him near you.

Today, Genji was deployed to a mission and you were stuckwith paper work. You longed for his upbeat and fun nature, it was deathlyboring without him around. You sighed and looked over at the clock.

‘Almost over, just 25 more mins’ you thought.

You completed all works that was needed to be done and ontime. You left for dinner to meet up with the others.

“Hey [y/n], wait up” You heard Jesse call from behind you.You turned with a smile on your face as you waited.

“Jesse Hey” You conversed with Jesse while you walked to thedinner hall together.

“I take it, Genji still hasn’t come back from the missionthen” He said noting the absence of your partner in crime.

“Yeah… they said it’ll take a day but …” You began as youlooked ahead.

“Ya know, you should tell ‘em” Jesse said, which caught youoff guard and stumbled in your step. Jesse laughed.

“Tell who what?” you questioned, trying to hide thepainfully obvious blush.

“Ya know who [y/n], it’s quite obvious to everyone around ya” he pointed out and as you entered the dining hall.

You began pondering about what Jesse had said, aboutconfessing. You felt flustered at the thought of telling Genji about yourfeelings.

After dinner you left to clear your head and get fresh air. Thecool night air was refreshing and provided a soothing comfort. You climbed tothe roof, which provided a great view of the star filled sky. You laid down withyour arms crossed behind your head and you fluttered your eyes shut. A contentsmile graced your features as you enjoyed the stillness of the night. Momentshas passed with you quietly enjoyed the company of the wind and coolness. Until…

“I knew I’d find you here” A gentle Japanese accented voice calledout and your ears perked.

Your eyes fluttered open as you sat up looking over to theowner of the voice. Genji’s from was illuminated by the moonlight which madehim seem magnificent and otherworldly. A smile instantly crept to your face.

“You’re back” You stood up and embraced him.

You wrapped your arms around his lean torso, despite hisbody consisted of metal plating’s, his body emitted a calming warmth. His armssnaked around your smaller form and hooked around your waist.

“Seem like someone missed me” He laughed, his bodyreverberating. It made your heart flutter against your ribs in an excitedmanner.

You giggled as you pulled away and lightly slapped hischest.

“It’s not fair, I was stuck with paper work whilst you wentout for a mission” you complained as you took a seat where you previously hadsat. Genji followed shortly after.

“Hah, neither was that time when you got the last pizzaslice last week. So I guess we’re even” He said, teasingly poking your poutedcheeks.

You angrily huffed and leaned against his form. You gazed atthe sky. Millions of sequined stars stitched against the deep vastness of theeternal dark sky, illuminated all creations under its presence. It brought youcomfort and wonder.

“It’s a beautiful night” You said, smiling.

‘Not as beautiful as you’ Genji thought, but too shy to sayit out loud.

“It is” he softly agreed.

Then, the words Jesse had said to you earlier echoed in yourmind.

‘You have to tell him [y/n]’ his voice sounded.

You turned to look at Genji, who was lost in thought gazingat the sky. Then his gaze abruptly turned to you as if he was about to saysomething.

“[Y/n]… I have something to confess” at the sound of this,you heart began to race. Suddenly, feeling very anxious for the next collectionof words. His hand reached for yours, intertwining your fingers with his.

“I…” He began but couldn’t form the immense number ofthoughts clouding his mind. The ninja sighed and looked down at yourintertwined fingers.

“Genji…” you began, giving him a reassuring squeeze toprompt him to continue.

“Ever since the first day, my whole being…felt different. Asin, I feel the need to be with you always, to feel your hugs and see you smileover my corny jokes and just…” he began trailing off and avoiding your gaze.

A shy smile graced you features as you gazed at him. A sighescaped his lips, and he pressed the buttons on his mask to release it. You hadseen his face before, as you were one of the few he was comfortable to show histrue identity to.

“Genji-“

“I just really like you [y/n] and I wish for you to be mine”He said sincerely whilst gazing into your soul, his deep dark eyes bore intoyour soul.

You let out a relieved sigh and launched yourself at theninja, starling the poor boy. You wrapped your arms around his neck and buried yourhead in his chest. Still surprised, genji tightly wrapped his arms around youand laid back down with you on top of his form. You pulled back and stared athim with a soft smile.

“I’ll be yours until all the starts fall out of the sky” Yousaid smiling, as you cupped his cheek.

Genji smiled up at you, leaning forward and melting intoyour touch, he placed his hand on top of yours.

You began leaning closer and closing your eyes until you closed the gap. The feeling of his lips against yours, wasdelicate and filled with passion you both shared for each other. Your handsoftly caressed his scarred cheek as you felt your heart begin to race form thecontact. You had been awaiting this moment for a while and it’s almost surreal,feeling the person you love reciprocate their feelings. You felt Genji smileinto the kiss as you began to pull away.

A heavy blush formed on your delicate features as helovingly gazed at you.

“I love you, Gen” you smiled as you leaned to peck his lipsquickly.

“I love you too, my little blossom” He smiled.

I am currently am and I will not ignore this. I will answer because I like it and love it at the same time. 

His reaction was to return the hug, because why not? It would be rude not to return the favour. The hug lasted for a few minutes, maybe more than 5? 

Cayde would understands why they are embarrassed because they are not in his class. They are a Warlock and he is a Hunter but he doesn’t know that they have a massive crush on him. 

Of course, they were shy and act different around him. His mind process it all. He finally understands why. They like him. 

Not ‘I like him that you are awesome’ and all but more or of a ‘I like everything about you.’ 

He sense how they stutter or how they look away from him. Even how their Ghost would ask them to be brave for something. 

“It’s been awhile, huh.” He spoke aloud, notify them as he puts the Vex Teleporter down. He slowly makes his way towards them. Each step he put, sends them to a blushing frenzy. Their Ghost was happy and at the same time, being supportive. 

I mean, have you ever have a crush that actually return your feelings? No, well this is how they feel. 

Cayde returns their feeling by giving them a forehead kiss. It wasn’t that he’d embrace them and spin them around. It is because that he was embarrassed that it was his turn to confess. It’s been a long time for him, to have another relationship. 

Failsafe would be excited about those two. 

And now, he has a reason to be worry about their welfare to defeat Ghaul.

Tails - the one people would call 'a loser'

First one is Tails. Aside his twin tails (the most noticeable thing) he is not too different to me. He is cute, polite and friendly. Although he is shown to be a genius, I think he winks more to smart kids in school that are looked down by envious peers because their life is easier than the life of the other students, even if they have good personalities. Or to young kids who feel inadeguate for something. Tails is mostly very normal to me, but he is very relatable exactly because he is not 'over the top' and his traits are virtually shared with everybody.

The twin tails might represent some traits many kids have and are ashamed off, like freckles, buck teeth, red hair or protuding ears. Traits that most learn to love when they grow up. Just like how Tails learned to love his peculiar trait.

Tails doesn't have a hardtime to befriend somebody. He just needed to find confidence in himself.

Shadow - the one people would call 'odd'.

Shadow, he got a lot. I want to sayone thing about his outside look before: originally (SA2, for example) Shadow was not meant to look scary. He was meant to look cool. The first thing people noticed is how he resembles Sonic. Nobody in SA2 commented: 'How scary Shadow is'. Back then the only comment on his look were 'cute' (Rouge) or 'lame' (Sabrina) and the other characters talked to him the way they talk with everybody else. Not even in 'Shadow the Hedgehog 2005' people think he is scary, unless they don't see him with a gun in his hand (but, Cheese would be scary too if he had a gun). In Sonic Prime nobody fear Shadow because of his look.

The way he looks always made me think to those kids that don't follow the mainstream trend: metalheads, punk etc... Real life taught me that those guys are safer than many guys with a cleaner look.

I think the idea that Shadow looks scary was introduced in Sonic X and Sega lingered on it a lot when they decided Shadow had to be a edgelord.

The most noticeable thing in his behaviour is how socially awkward he is and how rarely he look at people he is interacting with. Even his friends. Did you notice how in Dark Beginning even Maria always needs to force his attention? She's so used to this she does it without thinking.

Is not like he is afraid. Male, female, important figures or regular people, the treat them the same. He truly has no idea about what to do or how to deal with social stuffs. Is interesting how in early games but also in recent media like the movies, he let people approach him instead of being him approaching others. Sticking around is his way to allow people to get used to him. Then he can relax and attempt to initiate something himself.

Another thing is a long streak of Shadow's self loathing that virtually shows in all media, here and there: games (Sonic Battle and shadow the Hedgehog for example) Both Japanese and western comics (Archie, recent Shadow's manga), the movie, Dark Beginnings etc...

The impression he gives me is that he is not a true loner. Loners are happy to be alone. See Knuckles, he is a loner and he is cheerful, chuckling in his debut game. The rare moments you see Shadow being somewhat happy is always when he is with someone. Maria especially, but also Rouge and Omega. He doesn't like the crowd, he is still an introvert. But he also doesn't like being alone as much as people may think.

By reading comments on YT, Shadow (when he is not characterized as an edgelord) reasonates with troubled kids, with people suffering either from depression or from autism. But also with people who are simply introverts. For the latter, I've read on one comment on YT long ago about one introvert who was able to find his friends because he got inspired by Shadow, and after two decades his life is going fine and the friends he meet as a kid are all still his friends.

Tails and Shadow are two outcast, but they're different and reasonate with different people.

Florence Castle's HEROES OF CYBERTRON - Episodio Speciale 01: DINOBOT

Buon compleanno Beast Wars ma - soprattutto - buon compleanno anche a me, poiché entrambi quest'anno compiamo ben 25 anni. Perciò festeggeremo tutti insieme con questo speciale che tratterà l'icona numero uno di questa serie TF "bestiale"...

SPECIALE 1: DINOBOT, l'onore di un guerriero

«Forse ho trovato la risposta alla domanda che mi assillava da tempo: il futuro non può essere mutato, siamo noi che decidiamo le nostre scelte. Ma, ironia della sorte, soltanto ora scopro di non poter scegliere affatto. Io sono un guerriero... e il mio destino è combattere!».

Con questa bellissima e commovente citazione tratta dalla serie TF che quest’anno spegnerà venticinque candeline, introduciamo un’altra stella del firmamento robottiano che ha segnato profondamente i nostri cuori fino alle lacrime (per alcuni letteralmente!). Da non confondersi con l’omonima squadra Autobot dall’altmode sauresco, DINOBOT è indiscutibilmente il beniamino delle masse per il suo acuto senso dell’onore e quel carisma tale che morirebbe gloriosamente in battaglia pur di proteggere chi ama; il tutto armato dei suoi inconfondibili spada e scudo rotanti e uno sguardo laser à la Superman per gli attacchi a lunga distanza.

È impossibile non ricordare quel velociraptor Predacon che crede nella ricerca di una gloria imperitura, e che già all'inizio della serie Beast Wars inizia a mettere in dubbio i metodi di Megatron accusandolo di aver condotto il resto della ciurma su un pianeta sbagliato dopo il furto del Disco d'Oro, una preziosissima reliquia di Cybertron. Verrà quindi scacciato da disertore e si unirà successivamente ai Maximal nonostante il suo tentativo fallito di “spodestare” Optimus Primal dal ruolo di leader, ed è per questo che si distingue dai suoi neocompagni proprio per la sua famigerata lealtà ballerina: un Predacon resta pur sempre un Predacon, dopotutto, ma – parafrasando Nightmare before Christmas, uscito al cinema tre anni prima di ciò che in Italia conoscevamo come “Biocombat” – ti decanterà Shakespeare a memoria!

Ebbene sì: Dinobot viene dipinto come un guerriero romantico, nell’accezione di tragico, un antieroe che lotta disperatamente per la sua libertà e sempre contro l’inevitabilità del destino; esattamente come fanno gli shakespeariani Macbeth («Ahimè, povero Tarantulas! Lo conoscevo, Cheetor...») e Amleto (il celeberrimo «Essere o non essere, questo è il dilemma...», oppure quel «Il resto è silenzio...» detto in punto di morte), entrambi in perenne lotta contro la natura “bene di madre e di voler matrigna”. E come tutti gli eroi tragici di questo genere, anche il nostro ha amiconi del cuore che lo rispettano, come quel Rattrap con cui condivide una divertente rivalità per i motivi di cui sopra.

Il suo canto del cigno avviene nella Stagione 2, nel memorabile episodio Un Grande Eroe, in cui lo vediamo affrontare l’intero entourage di Megatron tutto da solo fino alla fine delle sue forze – arriva persino a mettere KO lo spietato capo Predacon con una rudimentale ascia. E quando i suoi compagni Maximal arrivano troppo tardi a vedere cos'è successo, Dinobot ha già abbracciato il suo destino e chiede umilmente loro di raccontare la sua storia ai posteri, poiché “non c’è nulla da recriminare” nell’aver salvato la valletta da cui nascerà la razza umana: «Dite loro la verità. – egli dice – I miei tradimenti e anche le mie imprese... e lasciate che mi giudichino di conseguenza. Ora lasciatemi in pace...». Questa è la fine di Dinobot, “vissuto da guerriero e morto da eroe”, ma non per quel mostro di Megatron sempre volenteroso di manipolare le menti dei nostri amici Biocombat con le sue intricatissime trame.

Nella Stagione 3 infatti, grazie alle possibilità offerte dalla tecnologia Transmetal 2, egli resuscita il caro e vecchio guerriero fondendo il DNA di questi e un frammento della Scintilla di Rampage, dando vita a un grottesco pseudo zombie/clone/mostro di Frankenstein. Con questa nuova veste, quindi, “Dinobot secondo” torna all’ovile dei Predacon nel tentativo di Megatron di avere tra le fila un soldato fedele e obbediente da controllare a piacimento, anche se il fantasma dei ricordi della vita precedente è sempre dietro l’angolo. La serie non ce lo spiega esplicitamente, ma si pensa che Rattrap abbia giocato un ruolo chiave per recuperare il “vecchio” Dinobot quasi in maniera analoga di Blackarachnia nei confronti di Tarantulas. Il suo sacrificio nel finale di serie lascia intendere che, seppur sia stato manipolato e riprogrammato contro la propria volontà, Dinobot è sempre disposto a tutto per andare fino in fondo e dignitosamente. Purtroppo, non sono mai state (finora) segnalate altre sue apparizioni in serie esterne alle Biocombat – esclusi i fumetti e l'omaggio nella recente War for Cybertron: Il Regno, in cui i Maxmal e i Predacon si contrano con i Cybertroniani G1 in un crossover non così brillante ma al tempo stesso un ottimo modo per festeggiare i venticinque anni delle Guerre Animali. Comunque, pare che l’anima di Dinobot si sia reincarnata in personaggi non così diversi dall’originale; i decani ricorderanno sicuramente la figura di Starscream concepita in Armada, ma il più vicino di tutti è forse il Decepticon Dreadwing della serie TRANSFORMERS: Prime, di cui abbiamo già discusso nella Puntata 4.

Per quanto sia stato un personaggio radicato esclusivamente nell’universo Beast Wars, Dinobot è divenuto popolarissimo e amato da pubblico anche attraverso i numerosi modellini susseguitisi negli anni. Primo tra tutti il Deluxe del 1996, che come tutti i colleghi di ondata aveva la gimmik della “testa mutante” – cioè una maschera con fattezze bestiali che segnava la transizione dalla forma animale a quella robotica. I colori della variante Hasbro non erano così eccezionali (il raptor era troppo rosa!) e il viso del Bot era appena abbozzato, mentre la variante Takara cercava allora come oggi di rimanere il più possibile fedele alla controparte animata. E ovviamente non mancano delle piccole variazioni, come il remold in Grimlock o la ricolorazione celebrativa del decennale della serie – il Deluxe del 2006, con parti dipinte con bei colori metallizzati e una valida alternativa al predecessore Takara.

Doveroso menzionare l’aggiornamento – se possiamo definirlo tale – in Dinobot Transmetal 2 del 1999, anche questo un Deluxe ed è tuttora una rarità della sua categoria dato che la distribuzione dei Beast Wars iniziò ad interrompersi coi primissimi Transmetal 2. Un Deluxe, dicevo, che da una parte da un senso di continuità, ma dall’altra cozza con la versione nel cartone, che già il primo Dinobot era secondo solo a Megatron come altezza, quindi dovevano farlo minimo come Mega o Voyager, occasione perduta qui nella sua incarnazione TM2, senza però contare che altre versioni di personaggi della prima ora come Cybershark e Blackarachnia ricevettero un upgrade di stazza da Deluxe proprio nei rispettivi Mega Transmetal 2, ma sono dettagli.

Ma un personaggio così popolare non potrebbe mai avere la possibilità di riapparire in modelli aggiornati negli anni successivi? Naturalmente sì, e così ecco un bell’Universe del 2008/09 nei panni di un velociraptor ispirato a Jurassic Park con una forma robotica più fedele alla controparte animata e con proporzioni più antropomorfe – oltre a una colorazione show-accurate se si prende l’omonimo Takara. Certo l’iconico scudo non ruota più, ma in compenso può sparare un missile che è anche l’altrettanto celebre spada. Il fascino delle Biocombat, però, si esaurisce in fretta e da quell’anno non se ne sente più parlare, a parte il Dinobot con altmode veicolare per la Timeline 2006 che purtroppo era solo il remold di Cybertron Longrack.

Quasi nel tentativo di aggiungere una pezza all’aspetto goffo e troppo poco fedele alla controparte animata dei modellini di cui sopra, nel 2018 anche Dinobot appare tra i Masterpiece e finalmente con le giuste proporzioni e altezza – o almeno, insieme agli altri personaggi della sottocategoria Beast Wars della linea. Tra le chicche di questo Dinobot spiccano dettagli stampati e la verniciatura antigraffio, rendendolo quindi molto più resistente. Certo, è dettagliatissimo e fedelissimo al cartone animato, ma può spaventare i giunti delle articolazioni alle spalle del Bot, troppo duri e fragili – difettino corretto con le copie successive, per fortuna.

Se proprio il Masterpiece è economicamente proibitivo, tre anni dopo arriva da War for Cybertron: Il Regno della macro-famiglia Generations un Voyager discreto e accettabile. È effettivamente un Masterpiece in miniatura e ci viene presentato come Predacon (ricordandoci che all’inizio della serie originale apparteneva a tale schieramento prima di disertare), ciononostante è anche un valido sostituto che manda definitivamente in soffitta il vecchio modello degli anni ‘90.

CONCLUSIONE

Poiché come le Beast Wars sono nata nel ’96, mi vedo costretta essere di parte: una serie animata che ha avuto il coraggio di nascere in computer grafica, tecnologia all’epoca pionieristica e sconosciuta all’infuori dei pochi cartoni che conosco, per esempio della neonata Pixar Animation Studios. Scelte audaci a parte, l’idea di avere Transformer con altmode bestiali era già presente nella G1 – come i Predacon e i Terrorcon – ma una serie che sia interamente sulle “guerre animali” è stata una vera e propria rivoluzione. E che ci abbia regalato trame accattivanti dei personaggi memorabili come il nostro Dinobot o Blackarachnia è un altro punto a suo favore. Grazie di tutto, Guerriero!

of course, he acts all smug around you— trying to impress you with anything and everything to get your attention. you're different from the other people he's messed with in the past

he falls for you really quickly, even if you try to ignore his advances and obvious adoration for you. the more you reject him the harder he falls, honestly

he's used to people being right at his feet as soon as he shows any type of interest in them, and you're a breath of fresh air in that sense

genji really does like you, even if he tries to play it off as just messing around. he knows he isn't, and it scared him, especially if you don't show any interest in him

he tries hard to get closer to you— beginning to flirt less as time went on. he knows that his feelings for you are genuine, and he wants to prove that to you too

it shocks you when he tones it all down and you worry about it, wondering if something happened. he's asking you about your interests, how your day was— taking the time to get to know you

you'd be lying if you said that his sudden kindness didn't make your heart flutter. he always played around as if he liked you, but you assumed it was just something he did with everyone

as soon as he dropped that act though, you began to open up more to him

he was so happy actually learning more about you. he's asking you if you want to learn the ways of the blade (he thinks you'll look cute)

he'll eventually let his crush on you slip to hanzo. he knew all along about his feelings for you, stating that it was obvious to him. genji swears it wasn't, but all hanzo does is shrug his shoulders

he asks you out on a proper date after a few months of hanging out as just friends. he'll take you to that arcade in hanamura that he loves so much, buy you dinner— trying not to overwhelm you with everything

he's shocked that you even said yes in the first place, but he's grateful for the chance you're giving him

unbeknownst to genji, you fell for him hard. you tried your best to hide it from him but as soon as he asks you out the "yes" flies out of your mouth faster than your brain could think

he abandons his playboy thing entirely after he meets you. he puts all of his effort into trying to form a real connection and relationship with you and it is the sweetest thing

he'll give you flowers and sweet gifts as a way to show his love and appreciation for you <3

he asks you to be his partner on your third proper date. it's all very rushed but he can't hold back on his feelings anymore. he sees a future with you, away from his families criminal dealings

he's the definition of a malewife in this part of your relationship. everything you do, he'll make sure you know he's proud of you

he tells you he loves you not too long after you get together officially. it slips out casually while you're laughing about something, and the room goes silent. you return it after a few moments and the smile on his face is so big

he kisses with so much love and passion. he can be a bit rough with it sometimes but you never mind it. he'll hold your face in his hands, his lips moving so gracefully against yours as he cradles you against him

his hands definitely wander a bit......... they do. he doesn't even think about it, either

okay getting into a little bit of angst...

when you find out about what happened with genji and hanzo, you're beyond devastated. you regret rejecting him so many times in the beginning, you regret every time you didn't tell him you love him. you regret so much

you find hanzo and you're screaming at him through sobs, smacking at his chest with every word you say to him

his face is unreadable the entire time until he finally breaks down, his body wracked with sobs

your heart drops as soon as you see him on his knees, face in his hands— crying out for his lost brother

you sit there with him for awhile, hugging him. crying together. you knew hanzo was the one who committed the act, but you knew who was really behind it

you mourn him every day, thinking of every moment you shared with him as soon as your eyes open in the morning

during overwatch

if you meet genji after his cyberization, expect him to be incredibly distant. he has trouble trusting people at first, afraid of them getting hurt because of him

you're a new overwatch recruit assigned to blackwatch. you're a talented medic and warrior, and you were specifically brought into blackwatch because you offered something none of the other members had (soldier's words)

you have to initiate conversation with genji. he isn't too keen on making friends or getting attached to people and he doesn't want anyone in more harm than they already are

you continue to talk to him even through his unenthusiastic responses, and eventually he manages to warm up to the thought of you becoming a real friend outside of missions

he'll become more interactive with you, friendlier and nicer, too. it's nice to see him come more out of his shell and you can't help but to wonder why he's so standoffish in the first place

it takes a LONG time for him to actually consider you as a friend. he trusts you and cares for you a lot by this point

skipping forward

you develop feelings for him relatively quickly. after all, he's mysterious— tall, intimidating, you can't help but to be curious

it takes him a lot longer to realize his feelings for you. he only realizes when you save him in battle, your hand extended for him to take with a warm smile on his lips

he feels his heart skip a beat, even through the cybernetics that keeps him alive

he acts differently as soon as the realization comes through. he avoids you hoping to make it go away only for it to completely backfire

he doesn't want to give in to these feelings he has for you. it scares him. what if you don't like him? what if you're afraid of him? do you even think of him as a man?

when the fall of overwatch happens, genji leaves. he says goodbye to you, his heart breaking at the thought of never seeing you again

YEARS go by before you see him again. the two of you first reunite quickly after winston's recall

you're met with a happier sounding genji, one who seems content with his cyborg body and what it came with

you can't help but hug him as soon as you see him. his body is still cool to the touch, but your heart pounds and your face heats up

not a day went by where you hadn't thought of him, and those feelings you had for him remained tucked away in the back of your mind— hanging onto him and the memories you shared

you have a lot of catching up to do and he tells you all about zenyatta and how he helped him accept his body. he informs you of how he had so much conflict within himself during the days of blackwatch and it was part of the reason as to why he was so distant then

you eventually meet zenyatta and you thank him over and over for the peace he brought to genji. ever humble, zenyatta only laughs and insists to you that he was the one who made it this far

you rekindle your "relationship" after a little bit. his feelings for you hadn't gone away in your years apart. he still had his doubts and worries about confessing to you, scared you'll reject him

you don't, of course

you're pretty much inseparable. you go everywhere together. you train together, especially. he teases you a lot by telling you that you need to be quicker to catch up with him

it takes him a while to feel ready to show you his face

he worries about not being attractive enough for you, or scaring you away. he'll have to give himself a pep talk. he wants to kiss you so badly it's really getting to him

as soon as he reveals his face to you, your heart melts. it's covered in scars, but his eyes are a deep brown— warm and filled with love. the corners of his lips are turned upwards in a small smile as he stares at you, waiting for you to say something

you can't find the right words, and all you can do is extend your hands to his cheeks, your thumbs caressing them as gently as possible

his skin is incredibly sensitive, but he had been yearning to actually feel your touch for years. it's worth any discomfort

one of his love languages is quality time. he knows he isn't the most comfortable to hug or cuddle with, but to make up for it he spends a lot of his time with you even when he has something he needs to do

he'll buy you gifts every now and then or find something while out on a mission to bring back and give to you as a way to show his appreciation for you

it's very sweet

you can't believe this is the same man who was once so intimidating and distant all those years ago. he seems so different

he's happier. you're helping him though a lot more than you realize you are

he still has his anxieties, scared that you'll wake up and say that you deserve better— say that you want someone who can give you everything he can't— but you never do

you stare at him in adoration, and he feels his face heat up underneath his mask whenever he catches you

he's incredibly protective of you even though he knows you can handle yourself

you make him the happiest he's ever been

he never intends to let you go :)
