I could feel my heart racing as Byakuya sat across from me, his gaze unwavering, like a predator watching its prey. He placed a small, neatly wrapped box on the table between us, his eyes glimmering with a mixture of determination and frustration. I couldn’t bring myself to look at it, not again.

I had always been this way—hesitant, unsure, anxious. Every time he gave me something, I couldn’t help but feel like I wasn’t worthy of it. I wasn’t the kind of person who deserved such extravagant gifts, such attention. And the more I refused, the more his patience seemed to wear thin.

“Y/N,” his voice was sharp, cutting through the silence. “Why do you keep refusing me?”

I shifted uncomfortably, my fingers curling into my lap. I didn’t want to hurt him, but I couldn’t help the knots of anxiety tightening in my chest. “I… I don’t know, Byakuya. I just… I don’t know how to accept things from you.”

His eyes narrowed, his brow furrowing slightly. “Don’t be ridiculous. I’ve been more than clear about my intentions. I don’t give you things out of obligation. I give them because I want to. Because I care.”

I flinched, the words settling in my mind but not fully sinking in. I couldn’t understand how someone like him—someone so powerful, so certain—could want to give me anything at all. I wasn’t like him. I didn’t know how to accept things without feeling like I was taking advantage.

“I don’t want you to think I’m… I’m just taking what you give because I need it,” I said, my voice small. “I don’t want to seem like… like I’m using you or something.”

Byakuya leaned forward slightly, his gaze becoming more intense. I could feel the heat of his presence, even though he was still sitting across the table from me. “You’re overthinking this,” he said, his tone now firm. “I’m not some charity. If I wanted to give you something, I would, regardless of what you think you deserve.”

I swallowed, unable to meet his eyes. My breath caught in my throat as I fiddled with the hem of my sleeve, trying to gather my thoughts. It wasn’t that I didn’t appreciate his gifts—it was just that I couldn’t believe I was worthy of them. I wasn’t worthy of him.

“I… don’t know how to accept things from someone like you,” I whispered, my voice barely audible.

The silence between us stretched, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flash of something softer in his eyes. But before I could dwell on it, he stood up from his seat and slowly walked toward me. My heart skipped a beat as he stopped beside me, his towering presence overwhelming. He reached out, his fingers brushing against the box, and for a moment, I felt a strange mix of warmth and tension.

“Take it,” Byakuya said, his voice low but commanding. “Stop pushing it away. Stop denying me.”

I looked down at the box in my lap, my hands trembling slightly. I wanted to accept it, wanted to believe that maybe, just maybe, I could allow myself to be loved this way. But the walls of insecurity were so high, and I didn’t know how to bring them down.

“I can’t… I don’t deserve it,” I whispered, my throat tight.

He exhaled sharply, as if his patience had finally worn thin. He reached down, lifting the box from my hands and slowly opening it. Inside was a necklace—simple, elegant, but with a beauty that took my breath away. I stared at it, unsure of what to say. I didn’t feel like I deserved such a thing, but the thought that he had chosen it for me, that it was from him, made something twist in my chest.

“Y/N,” he said, his voice softening, though there was still that commanding tone. “You don’t have to deserve anything. I’m giving this to you because I want to. Don’t make this harder than it needs to be. Just accept it. For me.”

My breath caught as I finally looked up at him. His expression had softened, but there was still that intensity there—still that unspoken demand for me to trust him. To trust that his love was genuine, and that his gifts weren’t something to be afraid of.

I slowly nodded, my fingers shaking as I took the necklace from the box. I met his gaze, my heart pounding in my chest. “I… I’ll try,” I whispered, my voice barely a sound.

Byakuya’s lips curled into the faintest of smiles, a rare glimpse of something tender hidden beneath his usually cold demeanor. “That’s all I ask for,” he murmured. “Now, let me put it on you.”

I nodded, unable to find my voice, and lifted my hair, exposing the back of my neck. His fingers brushed against my skin as he fastened the necklace, the simple touch sending a shiver down my spine.

“Beautiful,” he whispered, his breath warm against my ear.

I turned to face him, our eyes locking, the unspoken tension between us palpable. My heart raced, and for a moment, the world outside our bubble ceased to exist.

“Y/N,” Byakuya began, his tone softer than I’d ever heard, “I need you to trust me. To accept not just my gifts, but my feelings.”

Tears welled in my eyes, a mix of relief and vulnerability washing over me. I stepped closer, closing the distance between us, and placed a tentative hand on his chest.

“I do trust you,” I whispered, my voice barely audible.

Without another word, he cupped my face gently, his thumb brushing away a stray tear. Slowly, he leaned in, our lips meeting in a kiss that was tender yet filled with an undeniable passion. The world seemed to fade away as we lost ourselves in the moment, the kiss deepening as our emotions intertwined.

When we finally pulled away, breathless and with hearts racing, Byakuya rested his forehead against mine.

“Thank you for trusting me,” he said softly.

I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through me that had nothing to do with the necklace around my neck.
