Did an #inked full body #commission of #rapunzel from #Tangled. It was a fun one, but hard to do at a con. This ones for @nathangreno ! #disney (at Nashville Music City Center)
Max: You see this? This is my 'I don't care' face.
Neil: That's your everyday face.
hi i love my son
Hi đ ! Again, I'd like to say luv luv your work!! And I'd like to ask. If it's okay...I wanna know your headcannon about something? I'm curious on what kind of moment everyone's realization would be at Varian is "growing up". Like these little things like "what?! he's taller than me now?" I'd like to imagine it would be like a proud/cute/feel old moment for them haha.
Thank you so much! Itâs always encouraging to get feedback!
I think noticing changes in Varian would be a bit more⌠tense. Like he was intimating enough as a small fry. I have no idea how long it will be before they see him again but if itâs going to be a while, they may very well come back to find him already looking different. I donât imagine it would be a âfeel oldâ thing, I mean Rapunzel is only four years older than him. In modern day that would be like comparing a high school freshman to a senior or college freshman. Technically, Rapunzel is still a teenager too.
Plus, it wouldnât be Varian if a new older design didnât involve a dramatic reveal. :P Smol bean became tol beanstalk.
So here he still has angst but instead of the emotional outbursts of an early teen, itâs the cold bitterness of a late teen. Sorry if my handwriting canât be read. XP
Rapunzelâs âTeenage Dreamsâ˘â nightmares.Â
@astrologista requested this and shes like one of the most hilarious ppl i know in this fandom so it was a pleasure ;} <33~*~**~~~

Iâm not trying to excuse any of what Varian has done, but this scene definitely had me shouting âOH CâMON!â at the TV screen on his behalf. I know they were just having a âthank goodness everyone is safeâ hug, but theyâre having that family moment literally mere feet from where Varian is breaking down at the feet of his fatherâs encased body after his latest failure to save him.
NOT. COOL.
Something went wrong, Varianâs crushing under the weight of his failure, and heâs seeing his friends get their happily ever afters while ignoring him and his plight. If thereâs a single scene that can summarize his journey to the dark side, this is it.
Re-watching âQueen for a day.â
This sweetheart loved his village I SwEaR.
Hi, itâs me, back at it again with another Varian post
I justâŚcan we talk about this for a second? This is a moment at the end of Ready As Iâll Ever Be thatâs very difficult to catch at a glance, but to me, it says a lot. These are all expressions that Varian makes just before the Final Battle- when heâs just finished preparing and is watching the automaton as itâs being lowered into the cellar.
In the first two images, he doesnât look nearly as sure of himself as he does throughout most of the episode. In the second one, if you look close, you can even see his gaze has drifted to the side as though heâs contemplating something; possibly wondering if all this is really necessary and whether or not heâs actually doing the right thing, here.
But then, by the third one, his resolve hardens. Heâs likely reminded himself of his (supposed)motivation to free his father and of the fact that heâs already come too far to change course. And we know what happens from thereâŚ
Weâve seen this kind of thing before, though; In the Alchemist Returns, he seems to be second-guessing his actions just before turning on Rapunzel:
Itâs already made pretty clear that Varian is neck-deep in denial about whoâs really to blame for his fatherâs condition, but he also appears to be wavering a lot in his resolution for solving the issue. Despite the bravado he uses when confronting the king and Rapunzel - bragging about how theyâre ânot in a position to demand anythingâ - any time he really stops to think about what heâs doing, his expression suddenly becomes hesitant and unsure.Â
This, to me, reaffirms that the only real motivation he has for his actions is anger. Heâs not thinking clearly; the logical side of him is still not completely sold on the course of action heâs choosing, but heâs letting his emotions override it (as distraught teenagers often do). Varian is not all-in with seeking revenge against Corona, but at this point in time, he views it as his only choice. Not because it makes the most sense, just because it satisfies his desire to deflect and refocus his anger on something(or someone) else.
Because where would he turn it on otherwise? Probably, himself.
Man, I just⌠realizing that Varian is eventually going to have to come face-to-face with his own guilt and accept the blame for everything thatâs happened⌠Varian may be a villain (and I do personally believe he can be referred to as a âvillainâ at this point), but at the end of the day, heâs still just a grieving kid whoâs too afraid to admit that his mistake may have cost his dad his life.
I truly hope heâs able to reconcile his relationship with Rapunzel and save his father. And when he does, I hope itâs his decision to make.Â
I really want this boy to make a turn around of his own volition. Because, deep down, he knows that what heâs doing isnât what he wants to do- what his FATHER would want him to do. And he needs to come to terms with it, and set it right (just as he said he was going to do in Let Me Make You Proud.)
Iâm happy to finally do this meme
Sorry... Princess. But I know firsthand how well you keep promises.
