why do people keep using “internalised [prejudice]” when not talking about minorities?
internalised homophobia for example means that you, a LGB person, have been socialised to believed negative things about LGB people and are struggling with feeling like your own queerness is something negative
if a straight person sees being LGB as something negative that’s not “internalised homophobia”, that’s just homophobia
“internalised” means internalising negative views about your own minority
I keep seeing people saying stuff like “we all have internalised transphobia because we grew up in a transphobic society”
no. trans people have internalised transphobia. everyone else just has prejudice towards trans people.
please let’s be careful about how we use language!

Terrifying. What measures can we take to avoid this?
the way people would fight for their lives to let the world know that bi women who prefer men are still bi!!!! but as soon as a bi woman prefers women it’s “are you sure you’re not a lesbian?” “have you heard of comphet?” because you can’t imagine a woman being attracted to both sexes but choosing women.
