Over The Past 500 Years, France Has Been A Major Power With Strong Cultural, Economic, Military And Political

Over the past 500 years, France has been a major power with strong cultural, economic, military and political influence in Europe and around the world. During the 17th and 18th centuries, France colonised great parts of North America and Southeast Asia; during the 19th and early 20th centuries, France built the second largest colonial empire of the time, including large portions of North, West and Central Africa, Southeast Asia, and many Caribbean and Pacific Islands.

______________

Bastille Day is the name given in English-speaking countries to the French National Day, which is celebrated on the 14th of July each year. In France, it is formally called La Fête Nationale (The National Celebration) and commonly Le quatorze juillet (the fourteenth of July). It commemorates the 1790 Fête de la Fédération, held on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789; the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille fortress-prison was seen as a symbol of the uprising of the modern nation, and of the reconciliation of all the French inside the constitutional monarchy which preceded the First Republic, during the French Revolution. Festivities and official ceremonies are held all over France.

Listen, I’m Not A Fan Of The ‘Arthur’s

WW2 photo studies with a touch of color by yours truly
Listen, I’m not a fan of the ‘Arthur’s grumpy all the time’ hc but WW2 was rough on him. That’s why I believe he tremendously appreciated Matthew’s presence.
Matthew was one of his main pillars of strength, not so much in terms of reinforcements (though those certainly shouldn’t be overlooked) but in terms of emotional support. He was the one who knew how to deliver bad news and maintain his presence of mind in the face of them.
Alfred on the other hand went into the war a bit shaken up but quickly regained his composure and even more quickly turned it into confidence. I imagine Arthur acted annoyed at his cockiness but deep down found it reassuring.
ps The second reference I used was a photo of Roosevelt and Churchill and man those two are a treasure trove for Alfred and Arthur vibes.

“Run! To the bunker!”

image

Last days of the uprising. The greatest and the most despicable all leaps for freedom. He swore he voted against it and yet his honour did not let him abandon the men and women he had fought for for the last five years… and of course he joined the fights. How could he not? It was his duty. Somehow, on those chilly September days he found himself reminiscing about his life and his choices. The good and the bad, the ones he regretted and the ones he had found joy in. Just an old man reflecting on his decisions even though they did not matter in the larger perspective. In the end it all led to one September day. When t h a t  d a y came, paradoxically, he was and he was not ready. And yet, without a second thought he led his men through the flames into the bunker, as the sky fell on him. A single foolish Pole for whom the world had truly ended.

ah yes, did i mention he literally died in ‘44?

Historical Hetalia Week, day 1: Mistake

“This is all your fault”

“Shut up”

“The other will never let us live this down if they find out”

“I said shut up!”

The NA Brothers after Operation Cottage

I always feel a bit bad about laughing at operation Cottage but…

Historical Hetalia Week, Day 1: Mistake

These two share one brain cell and they both forgot it at home.

Fun Fact: The Current British Accent We All Know And Love Is Really A Recent Development That Came To

Fun fact: The current British accent we all know and love is really a recent development that came to be shortly after the American Revolution. There’s lots of speculation and nothing really clear why (that I found) but one source I read said it was because new money Brits who were once part of the working class wanted to distinguish themselves apart from their lower class beginnings and it just caught on and became the standard. So all in all generic American and Canadian accents are closer to the original pronunciation of English than the British accents.
