The Cordelia Pamphlet

In the early morning of the year of 2005 whereas people all over Camp Jupiter and New Rome were reading a four-page pamphlet. A few people were gossiping about the four-page pamphlet until it became a spread news all over the camp and city. Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano (who was the protégé of Praetor Lyria) and Flint Donovan Vance (Current male Praetor) were reading this four-page pamphlet in anger but also in pain for their closest friend in Camp Jupiter. Lyria Eclair Graham de Vanily and Echo Olympia Butterfly were also reading this terrifying pamphlet that was spreading like wildfire throughout the camp and city in the Great Hall of Hogwarts. Both girls were afraid of Octavian Marcus Tabullo's reaction once they were reading it. They quickly packed their clothes and light traveled (Lyria) and love traveled (Echo) straight to San Francisco, California. Meanwhile, Octavian locked himself inside his office in silence where Reyna and Flint heard him scribbling from paper to paper with his pen. So far nothing unlike outside in the city. Bernice Gonzalez, Emilie Jade, and Nala Bank were grinning devilishly as they spread the news of the pamphlet.

 People all over the camp and city were reading the four-page pamphlet in shock as May reveals that she had an affair with Phoenix Cordelia. This young Cordelia man was known for being a notorious liar and a player all over Camp Jupiter and New Rome. He was also known for sleeping with many men wives in order to obtain high payment. Madeline Sophia was glad to cooperate with Daisy Cordelia in order to pay almost two thousand in cash to keep the affair a secret. Though the secret didn’t last long when Emilie and her two sidekicks (Nala and Bernice) accuse Octavian's girlfriend of embezzling money from the Nutella Company, which was the main source of money for the Romans. Though that wasn’t the case so instead May decided to reveal her affair on a four-page pamphlet before letting it be published for the entire city and camp to read with their own eyes. Emilie couldn’t think that her dream had finally come true. The girlfriend of Lyria and Echo's right-hand man, has suddenly fallen down by her own doom. Lyria was the daughter of Apollo, Princess of Olympus, the Sea, and the Underworld, Ghost Queen, Princess of the Shadows, Heir to Jupiter, Juno, Neptune, Ceres, Mars, Minerva, Apollo, Diana, Vulcan, Venus, Mercury, Bacchus, Vesta, and Pluto, ex-Centurion of the First Cohort, Praetor of the Twelfth Legion Fulminata, Friends to Major and Minor Gods, The Three Fates, and Thanatos. Echo was the daughter of Venus, Centurion of the First Cohort and the right-hand woman of Lyria. Both girls were Friends to Chaos, Top Commanders of the Chaos Army, Lyria the First and Echo the Second.

The Venus and Apollo descendants were reading the four-page pamphlet themselves. Tears were streaming down their faces as Reyna and Flint comforted all of them with loving open arms. They glared at May for this cruel betrayal that she brought upon her own family. The children nearly broke down in Reyna and Flint's arms as they escorted them away from the crowd that formed between May and Emilie along with Nala and Bernice. The three women continue to spread the pamphlet along with the crowd as they booed at her. Rose Sophia couldn’t even look at her own full, older in the eyes ever again.

Rose and the other Venus descendants were escorted as well by Reyna, who glared at May with pure hatred. She couldn’t believe that May could just stab Octavian in the back, in the end, she did. Reyna feared for Octavian's mental state, wondering if he was doing something that Reyna feared the most. Echo arrived first because Lyria was intercepted by Mercury to be at Olympus for an emergency meeting about the affair. Echo and Reyna escorted the Venus and Apollo descendants to their cohorts, before rushing towards Octavian’s office in the First Cohort. Echo wanted to beat the schist out of her sister because of her fatal flaw; Excessive Wrath, but thought better of it. Octavian needed his closest friends.

Meanwhile, May looked down in shame as everybody continued booing at her nonstop. Not to mention that Emilie, Nala, and Bernice kept on taunting her as May finally came crashing down by her own hands.

Emilie:

Emilie, Nala, and Bernice cruelly laughed at May in the face as people kept on speaking ill at her. Everyone in Camp Jupiter and New Rome that knew Octavian personally as good friends nearly wanted to smack the young Spanish-Australian girlfriend in the face but they held back. Soon the crowd began moving away from May, who assumed that they had enough poking their fingers at her for the humiliation that she caused for herself and Octavian. Though the crowd didn’t move away but instead made room, the people of Camp Jupiter and New Rome had made room for their Praetor, friend, and sister. Lyria, who made her way through the crowd before staring at May directly in the eyes.

Lyria:

I came as I soon heard

Emilie:

What!?

May:

Lyria

Emilie/Nala/Bernice:

All the way from Scotland?!

Damn!!!

May:

Lyria, thank the Gods

Someone understands what I’m

Struggling here to do

Lyria grabbed May harshly by the collar of her purple SPQR shirt as she tightly held her with just one hand. May feared for her life at the moment as the Princess of Olympus and many other titles aggressively grabbed her by the collar of her shirt. Glaring deeply into her frightened eyes before Lyria harshly whispers into her ear.

Lyria:

I’m not here for you

“Ooooh” the people whisper in shock as they hear Lyria whisper in such an aggressive way where they didn’t interfere with her and May. Bernice looked away from the unfortunate conversation while Emilie and Nala watched this incident with pure satisfaction. They chuckled devilishly underneath their breath just waiting for the perfect that May Sophia deserves for not only confessing she had an affair behind Octavian’s back but also revealing it for the entire city and camp. This is just a perfect day for Emilie Jade as she slowly watches her enemy slowly falling down.

Everyone knows that if you mess with Lyria, you will suffer immensely. Lyria held more than 1% of what a regular Roman descendant can ever have. She could kill anyone in a second or less with her bare hands, or she could use her powers and kill you in the slowest, painful death. Lyria has the Gods; Major and Minor, Three Fates, Chaos, and Thanatos behind her back. Let’s not forget the entire Chaos Army, which are personally trained by Chaos, Lyria, and Echo. 

Lyria:

You will never anyone as loyal nor as kind

I love my brother more than my own life

I will choose his happiness over mine every time

Lyria roughly pushed May away from her before raising her fist in the air. Bernice closed her eyes as she heard a crack echo in her ears. Knowingly that her ex-cohort mate's long time friend has punched her greatest enemy.

Everybody else watches with pleasure as Lyria punches May hard twice in the nose and stomach. May fell down to the ground wondering if maybe somebody will have sympathy in their hearts and willing to scold Lyria for punching her. Though none of them as they insisted that May Sophia had it coming.

Lyria:

Put what we had aside

I’m standing at his side

You could never be satisfied

Gods, I hope you’re satisfied

Lyria cold-heartedly left the poor woman in their regular SPQR purple shirt and leggings helpless who was crying on the ground. Tears were streaming down May’s face as she held her bleeding nose and hurting stomach that stung greatly in pain. Everybody began walking away from her but Emilie kept glaring at her with pure satisfaction now she saw May Sophia fallen down into the pitch black darkness of her failure. Causing her reputation to be ruined in New Rome and Camp Jupiter.

Emilie/Nala/Bernice:

The Cordelia Pamphlet

Have you ever seen somebody ruin their own life?

Octavian Tabullo had locked himself in his office as he read the four-page pamphlet. Tears were streaming down his face whereas Reyna, Flint, Echo, and Lyria were banging the door harshly. They attempted to open the door but as expected Octavian has a habit of locking his doors while working. Though this time they knew that Octavia isn’t working at all but instead they know that Octavian is crying in pain, anger, and humiliation by the thought that his beloved May has cheated on him. In which he and everybody else in New Rome and Camp Jupiter never expected May to do such a notorious act but in the end she did. Cruelly stabbing Octavian in the back nonstop. If it were Camp Half-Blood Lyria and Echo would have broken through the door or teleported in the room using their strength or powers, but it was different at Camp Jupiter and New Rome because the doors were enchanted to only be forced open only by an immortal and that there were double doors.

Tears continue streaming down Octavian’s face before Lyria and Echo somehow manage to get the double doors to open. Everyone looked at Octavian in relief as they saw him still alive and well. Although, Lyria would know if Octavian was really dead or not. 

The Puerto Rican girl hugged the freckled-acne scarred-tan American, who broke down inside her arms. Reyna and the rest did their best to console Octavian's broken heart.

Author's Note:

Emilie, Nala, Bernice, Reyna, Flint, Phoenix, Daisy, Lyria, Echo, and Octavian are part of the First Cohort.

Echo is the Echo from the myths. She was adopted by Aphrodite. Therefore, Echo has ADHD and Dyslexia.

Lyria and Echo has been at Camp Jupiter and New Rome since they were 5 years old. Both girls swore on the River Styx not to tell either side, until both Romans and Greeks knew of each other’s existence. 

Lyria has been Praetor since she was 9 years old (she’s 11 in this story), Flint has been Praetor when he was 10 (in this story he’s 13), Echo has been Centurion since she was also 9 years old (she’s 11 in this story), Reyna had been at camp for 3 months (she’s 13 years old), Octavian has been Centurion when he was 10 (in this story he’s 15), May, Emilie, Nala, and Bernice are also 15 years old. Daisy is 25 years old and Phoenix is 26 years old.

Lyria and Echo are both in Gryffindor. Both were almost sorted into the other houses; Lyria in Hufflepuff more and Echo in Ravenclaw, and Slytherin because Greek demigods are cunning and sly. But considering their pasts and present, the Sorting Hat sorted them both in Gryffindor.

1755-01-11: Olivia and Alexander Hamilton’s Birth - Olivia and Alexander were born in Charlestown, St. Kitts, and Nevis.

 1765-01-16: Hamilton’s Father Left - James Hamilton, Olivia and Alexander Hamilton's father, and a Scottish Laird, left Hamilton and his family, most likely due to the fact, Olivia, Alexander, and James Jr. were his illegitimate children. It was a relief for the children because he would always beat up James Jr. and Olivia, trying to protect their youngest sibling.

1766-02-17: Hamilton’s Mother Dies - Rachel Faucette Buck, Hamilton's mother, died on February 19, 1768. Cause of death: Yellow Fever. After her death, Alexander and Olivia moved to live with their cousin for a year. Before she died, she gave Olivia the Hamilton ring (gold ring, amethyst pearl-shaped center, and small emerald cut emeralds) that was said to be passed down from generation to generation and a navy blue and dark purple diary, she gave Alexander her necklace from George (5 sapphire petals, a red ruby center, and a thin gold chain).

 1766-02-20: Hamiltons In Court - John Lavien (Rachel’s husband) arrived wanting a divorce decree. He wanted the court to reward the entire estate to his son, Peter because the twins were illegitimate. Alexander and Olivia had their uncle, James Lytton, sign a false birth year for court documents that had them add two years their senior. The only thing they got was books taken from Peter, thanks to their uncle.

 1767-02-17: Hamilton’s Cousin Committed Suicide and James Jr. Left to Become a Carpenter- Peter Lytton committed suicide over the death of his wife. Alexander and Olivia are now, with no money and family, or destitute orphans. James Jr had to leave the twins behind to become an apprentice of a carpenter.

 1771-01-16: Alexander In Charge Of A Trading Charter - Since girls couldn’t work, Alexander had to. Turns out, that Alexander had the perfect “age” for jobs.

 1772-08-31: Hurricane Maria Hits - Hurricane Maria hit St. Croix, where Alexander was working and Olivia was nearby to look out for her younger brother.

 1772-09-06: Alexander Writes About Hurricane Maria - Alexander wrote to his father describing the storm and gained the attention of the island’s elite. He “wrote his way out”.

 1772-12-01: Olivia Receives a Letter That Alexander Died - Somewhere between these months, Olivia gets a letter that the ship Alexander was on sunk and there were no survivors. She was then sold to a family in Setauket, Long Island as a slave, where she meets Benjamin Tallmadge, Anna Smith, Abraham Woodhull, and Caleb Brewster.

 1776-09-15: Olivia Gets Freed - Thankfully Olivia was considered white, so she was taught how to improve her grammar, writing, healing, cooking, etc. She still had her Nevis accent, but Olivia could play it off by saying Spanish was her native language. Speaking of languages, Olivia was fluent in French, Latin, Greek, Italian, Danish, and Hebrew. 4 or so years later, Olivia was a free woman.

 1777-04-27: Olivia Reunites With Alexander - Olivia gets assigned as a spy for the continental army. The rest of the army gets word that she had the same last name as Alexander’s. After being reintroduced to each other, Olivia forces Alexander to take more care of himself (eating, sleeping).

 1777-09-11: Olivia gets shot in the side during the Battle of Brandywine.

 1777-10-18: Olivia And Alexander Presumed Dead - Both Hamilton twins jumped in the Schuylkill River and swam deeper, hoping the British Cavalry presumed them dead. They were washed down miles going with the current of the river. Alexander carried her unconscious body to the Patriot camp. Hercules Mulligan found the twins and helped them get to their destination quicker.

 1777-10-19: Washington Finds Out The Twins Are His - Olivia woke first and told Washington to read her diary for answers because she was too tired. He found out about Olivia’s life story and found out Olivia Rachel and Alexander James Hamilton were his biological children. Washington then found out about the Hamilton family ring and Rachel’s flower necklace. Olivia and Washington swore to never tell this to Alexander and to any human being (not a certain diary written in code that no one, but Olivia and Alexander can understand).

 1777-10-20: Olivia sneaks off to the Battle of Paoli, instead of resting.

 1777-10-21: The Locket - Washington gave Olivia a gold locket engraved with ‘Together In Mount Vernon, Virginia’ complete with a gold chain. Inside was a portrait of the Hamilsiblings (Alex, Olivia, Ben, and Laf) on the right and a portrait of the Washington couple on the left.

 1778-05-25: Olivia Comes Back - After disguising herself as a black-haired, Dutch woman, named Denise Melody, she returned to Washington about the British army. Olivia resigned as a spy because she didn’t want to come back to England ever again. But mostly, she was afraid that King George III would force her to marry him.

 1778-05-26: Olivia Becomes The First Woman General - After listening from every soldier in the Continental Army, General George Washington makes Olivia a General. The only difference is that she would be traveling with the main camp because she doesn't have enough experience to lead her own army. She helped train the under-trained soldiers, sewed clothes for those who were practically naked, negotiated with wealthy families to give the army food, helped with the battle plans because of her knowledge as a spy, and her overall kindness and empathy to everyone helped her rise to the top to not only the soldiers but to the rest of the people in the Colonies.

 1778-06-28: The Battle of Monmouth - Olivia saves Benjamin Tallmadge from William Bradford when Charles Lee ordered him to. The rest of the army arrives behind Washington. Olivia participates in the Battle of Monmouth. 

 1778-09-15: Olivia And Lafayette’s Relationship - In Olivia’s diary, she didn’t specify the date because she wrote “I believe it is the 15th of September 1778”. In the entry, she wrote about her and Lafayette’s relationship began as platonic but over time, it became romantic.

 1778-11-01: Olivia Joins The Culper Ring - After begging and pleading to her father and Commander in Chief, Olivia joins the Culper Spy Ring with the rest of the members: Benjamin Tallmadge, Caleb Brewster, Anna Strong, Abigail, Abraham Woodhull, and Robert Townsend. Olivia gets a golden band from Apollo that helps disguise her appearance with the use of the mist, she gives the other rings to the other members. They created a cover that the golden rings were from their deceased family member. In reality, they used it to signal the others when they need help or have information about the British.

 1778-12-15: Olivia As a Maid - Olivia disguises herself as a beaten and branded girl as a Caribbean slave, even though she was white by the Continental Army to John André's home to spy on him. She later resigns from her post before her next battle.

 1779-07-16: Stony Point - Olivia helps capture Stony Point, New York with the army.

 1779-11-17: Olivia And John Get Married - To keep the relationship between John and Alexander less suspicious, Olivia proposed a marriage proposal to John’s father; Henry, who knew about their secret relationship, agreed. Even though both adults were married, they had no love for the other than familial love. They agreed that their marriage was only public and behind closed doors, they would seek out their paramour (John-Alexander and Olivia-Lafayette).

 1780-06-17: Olivia’s Quadruplets - 9 months later, Olivia gave birth to 4 children: Rachel Olivia, Alexander John, George Benjamin, and Elizabeth Gilberta Laurens from oldest to youngest. The godparents of each child were Olivia-Martha Washington, Alexander-George Washington, George-Benjamin Tallmadge, and Elizabeth-Lafayette. Because of this, Olivia took a break from the army for a while.

 1780-09-23: Caleb Brewster and Olivia Find Out Arnold's A Traitor - After talking with Anna Strong, Brewster and Olivia ride full speed towards West Point, NY to deliver the message to George Washington. Ben and Olivia tried to shoot Arnold, but due to their closeness, they couldn't.

 1780-10-02: John André Hanged - André was born a child of Athena and knew about the Greek Gods. He knew that Olivia was spying on him, but didn't comment on it until they were in private before his execution. The Fates had cut his string in front of him when Olivia posed as a maid and had demigod dreams of his death. John knew that Olivia was a legacy of Apollo and Athena, he didn't want to hurt his family.

 1780-12-14: Alexander and Eliza Get Married - Eliza accepted John’s relationship with her husband as long as Alexander doesn’t cheat on her with other women.

 1780-12-15: Olivia Boards L'Hermione - Olivia joins Lafayette to bring down turncoat Benedict Arnold. They join 1, 200 troops and sail south to Virginia.

 1781-05-20: Abraham Boards L'Hermione - Abraham gets captured by the French and gave information to Lafayette, but before anything else happens, the ship gets attacked by cannons. When Brewster and Olivia identify Abraham as a spy for the Culper Ring named Samuel Culper Sr, they sail to Yorktown, Virginia.

 1781-09-28: The Battle Of Yorktown - Olivia gets shot 3 times during the battle but recovered soon after. Lafayette soon bid Olivia farewell to sail back to France. Olivia gives him her very long lock of braided hair inside a portrait locket necklace of her for him to remember her by. He also gives her a braided lock of his hair and a portrait locket of himself.

 1782-01-22: Olivia Becomes An Aunt - Phillip Hamilton was born.

 1782-08-27: John Laurens Dies - Olivia, Alexander, Hercules, and Lafayette get letters from Henry Laurens that John died in South Carolina. In her letter, Olivia receives her husband’s wedding ring. Heartbroken, Olivia vows to never marry again.

 1782-09-01: Olivia And Alexander Return To New York - Olivia gets a house in Harlem near her brother and his family. She led a quiet life with her children, unlike Alexander, for a while.

 1783-01-01: Olivia Bids Angelica Farewell - Over the course of the years, Olivia and Angelica became best friends. She hated the fact that Angelica and her family would go back to the same country they fought for years.

 1783-06-20: Pennsylvania Mutiny - Olivia watches the 10 leaders of the Pennsylvania Mutiny be gunned down by their own men beside Alexander and Ben.

 1783-09-03: The End Of The Revolution - The Treaty of Paris was finally signed which negotiated between America and Great Britain, ended the revolution, and recognized America as an independent.

 1787-10-?: Alexander Asks Olivia To Co-Write The Federalist Papers - Sometime before the writing of the Federalist Papers, Alexander asks Olivia to co-write it with John Jay, James Madison, and himself. Olivia politely declined because she believed that the three men could do it without her.

 1787-05-25: The Twins Go To The Constitutional Convention - Olivia Hamilton Laurens and Alexander Hamilton were one-half of the New York delegates. The former was the only woman to go to the Constitutional Convention. Though the twins did little in writing the Constitution, they signed the paper anyway.

 1789-02-04: Olivia Becomes The First Woman Vice President - Olivia ran for President all in good fun. The results were unanimous because she was one of the contributing factors that helped America become independent, only second to George Washington, and became the Vice President of the United States.

 1790-03-22: Olivia Meets Thomas Jefferson - When Jefferson and Olivia met, let’s just say that they will forever be enemies. This is partly the reason why Alexander and Jefferson were also enemies.

 1790-06-20: Olivia Refuses To Go To The Jefferson Dinner - Olivia doesn’t go to the dinner with Jefferson, Madison, Alexander, and a few others saying she had other things to do. But she doesn’t go because she didn’t want to be caught in the middle of a verbal fight between Alexander and Jefferson, again.

 1791-07-05: Olivia Finds Out About Alexander’s Affair - Alexander needed to speak to someone about his affair with Maria Reynolds, so he went to Olivia (naturally). Olivia slaps him and tells him about his promise to Eliza when he married her. She tells him if her husband finds out and tells/writes you to give him money to keep the affair a secret, he himself would pay entirely.

 1792-?-?: Olivia Receives Word About Lafayette’s Capture - Historians would never know the date when Olivia gets a letter that Lafayette fled from France and in prison because she only wrote the year and stopped writing in her diary for the rest of that year. They figured that she was extremely heartbroken to write.

 1793-02-25: Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf -  Olivia was poisoned by a loyalist named Micheal Key. Thankfully the poison was expired and went on to sit in Mount Vernon for hours talking about the establishment of the first U.S. bank. But due to Olivia’s frail and weak body for not eating and sleeping at the correct times, she became gravely ill. She sent her four children to Setauket with Abraham Woodhull. the week before. The four mentioned people came to her room in Mount Vernon. minutes before Olivia died. She gave Washington the locket he gave her all those years ago, gave Benjamin her sun hair comb he gave her when the war was over and her golden spy ring, gave Eliza her and John’s wedding rings and gave Alexander the Hamilton family ring and her diary (she instructed him to only read the entry about their true heritage when he is on his deathbed). She then instructed Ben to give Lafayette, her one true love, to give the gift he gave her when they started their relationship, a sapphire bracelet when he visits America once more. Olivia told the three to forgive her for leaving too early, she remembered the time she gave Washington piano lessons (which failed), the time where she forced Alexander to eat and sleep more regularly, and the time where she helped Eliza with her pregnancy with Phillip and her other children. She sang, “Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf,” which she does when she tries to reassure those around her. Olivia’s last words were, “I’ll see all of you on the other side, John, my love, I’m coming.” She was buried in Trinity Church Cemetery with a large monument. Victor’s Remarkable Evolution

I was watching (okay okay rewatching for the billionth time) Yuri on Ice, and something struck me. Specifically something about Victor. Namely, the slow and soft march of Victor’s evolution in the series, from the self-absorbed icon to a vulnerable and loving partner and coach.

At a press conference, when asked about whether Victor went off to become Yuuri’s coach, Yakov shouts: That man only thinks of himself!

And honestly? I agree. I think that the show’s creators wanted us to view Victor through that lens. He was bored. He was stagnant. He decided he wanted to try out coaching because that sounded kinda fun and cool. Yuuri Katsuki idolized him, and skated his routine beautifully. Victor could combine seducing the gorgeous Japanese skater who idolized him with taking the mental break from skating he needed to return refreshed.

This… is not the attitude of someone who is taking the coaching seriously. He presumes he can waltz into Japan, take this cute little Japanese skater under his wing and transform him into… a prince, all the while getting laid.

It’s why Victor squealed at the challenge that Yuri Plisetsky put forward: choreograph both programs and watch two skaters battle over… him. He got to choreograph the two skaters: one who represented his youth and one who represented his lust. 

Victor wanted to watch Yuuri seduce him on the ice (in one of his old costumes), and decided the way to score more points was to put all jumps in the second half. Even Nishigori called that choice spartan.

Yuuri suspected, talked to Minako about it, and decided even if this was some sort of Victor vacation, he was going to take full advantage, and Victor is lucky that Yuuri was the type who devoted everything to this experiment, to Victor as his coach, even knowing that Victor’s heart was maybe not entirely in it.

Indeed, throughout the beginning, Victor was enjoying playing coach without really being one. He teased Yuuri enough that Yuuri started to avoid him. Finally, Victor actually made an effort to connect. And… Yuuri let him in.

This is also one of the first times in the animation that Victor’s face is that soft. He’s having a real moment, not a manufactured one here. Talking to Yuuri does that for him, and for the first time, alone and out of the spotlight, you have to wonder if that felt kinda good. It makes it pretty clear that Victor was entirely serious about being Yuuri’s boyfriend, though that moment was probably also to put Yuuri off kilter, because that’s what Yuuri had done to Victor.

Unfortunately, by the regional qualifier, Victor is a little back to some of his bullshit, picking a flashy suit to advertise his debut as a coach. He made that moment about himself, not about Yuuri. Yes, thankfully he had moments where he actually gave good advice (that Yuuri needed to… pay attention to his fans), but mostly it was still Victor thinking mostly about Victor.

That though… started to change. When Yuuri did his free skate, he openly rebelled. He changed triples into quads without asking, and… Victor found himself watching Yuuri with interest. He started to see Yuuri, noting that he skated in time with the music, and that there was something about his impatience on the ice that meant Victor couldn’t look away. He even internalized that Yuuri’s rebellion to his instructions was a whole lot like him. This was the moment that Victor finally started to take coaching seriously.

He stopped thinking of it as a performance, and starting thinking about himself and Yuuri as a team. He’d wear suits (he’s Victor Nikiforov after all), but it was no longer only the Victor show in his head.

Then Yuuri declared his love for Victor on a televised event. Victor’s facial expression says it all.

Yeah, he heard it. Ugly tie and all. Victor succeeded in scoring the adorable Japanese skater. Thankfully though, he’s in a much different headspace now than he was when he showed up naked in the onsen.

It does mean that the next time we see Victor, he is much more affectionate. On the way to Beijing, Victor is draped over Yuuri on the plane. He’s holding him while they watch the other skaters or run to hold each other at the kiss & cry.

China is also where Victor’s biggest breakthrough happens. Yes! He finally takes being a coach seriously. Yes! He roots for his pupil to win and believes in him. Yes! He tries to do his best for Yuuri, forcing him to nap (with snuggles of course, Victor’s self-control only goes so far…) before his free skate.

Then… Yuuri being on the edge of a nervous breakdown. Victor… doesn’t know what to do. He gets Yuuri away from other skaters to warm up, he forbids him from doing jumps in warmups (Yuuri rebels). And then…

Boy screws up big time. Trying to shatter Yuuri’s heart to motivate him. Victor admits he has no idea what to do when someone is crying in front of him, asks if Yuuri wants him to kiss him. (Um, no Victor. Not right now). Yuuri tells him what he needs.

It was probably one of the first times in Victor’s life that he really messed up, and really hurt someone he cared about. He feels stupid for not asking Yakov what to do, and looks pretty broken when they return for Yuuri’s free skate.

Luckily… Yuuri seems to be driven extra hard by Victor screwing up, deciding he’s going to add a quad flip to the end of his program. Something not even Victor has done. And well, we all know what happened next.

Before this moment, we see a lot of “fake Victor.” Even around Yuuri, he threw on that fake charm. But, after Beijing? Around Yuuri, the mask came off.

Victor and Yuuri were a team. Victor was Yuuri’s coach, and he loved it. And the change in the animation is stark. The fake looks were only when Victor was forced to mug for media. When he was looking at Yuuri? His face was as soft as when he said “you’re not weak.”

JJ Leroy ignores Yuuri and walks straight up to Victor? We see open hostility. Yuuri skates another wonderful one? Victor gets down to kiss his skate. Yurio shows off true agape? He’s genuinely excited.

And then Yuuri sends him back to Japan to be with Maccachin (who got into the buns.) Victor doesn’t even hesitate to run up to Yakov and ask him to coach. No ego, nothing. (I don’t think we need to ask why Yakov said yes. Because he recognized Victor as a coach now too… and Yuuri deserved it.) Just… doing the best he could to make sure Yuuri got through his free skate.

Yuuri did. And… this was their reunion.

You cannot tell me that the Victor we met at the very beginning would have done this. This is a Victor who lives for someone other than himself, who has found someone he loves more than skating. The person who opened him up and accepts him as he is… and runs just as fast and just as desperately to get back to him too.

Yuuri is the reason Victor changed, evolved, grew better. Yuuri is why Victor took coaching seriously enough to fall in love with it. Yuuri is the person Victor is entirely himself with.

It means we get to see his soft side. We get to see what a man on top of the world is like when he falls uncontrollably in love. Who’s opened his heart enough that it might break.

Yeahhh Yuuri is an idiot… (I wrote about that already), but if Victor were not this Victor, open and vulnerable, Yuuri would not have skated the program he was capable of (rising to the occasion and scoring higher than Victor’s WR), and would not have committed to staying in skating.

Victor is not going to give up coaching. He loves it, just like he loves Yuuri. He is less afraid of trying to climb to the top again, not when he’s found things that make him truly happy.

Victor changed, evolved, and in the process, he found the happiness and meaning he was always seeking. And in the process of that journey, he found a husband and his next calling.

I actually don’t think Victor ever wins gold again. But I also don’t think he cares. Yuuri getting a gold medal would mean more to him than 10 more for himself. It’s that sort of growth that makes this series so beloved. Because the growth was organic and natural, even as it was extremely profound.
