Sticker Designs for Palestine

For those who haven't seen my posts yet, I am raising money for my Palestinian best friend. ALL PROCEEDS will go to help his loved ones through this war and to help his girlfriend afford to join him safely in America. He is the sweetest person in the world (and a truly brilliant scientist, like an actual genius) and he deserves so much better than this. All designs found here.

I'd like to point out now that my stickers generally have the highest profit margin, and if you buy 10+ you get half off all of them but I still receive the same amount (edit: nevermind, I think I still get a flat percentage but also the 50% sale is less than 50% if Redbubble is running another sale at the same time. Still, bulk always costs you less and I make a high percentage on stickers!). Here is a small sample of my stickers (including 3 I haven't posted here before):

As always EVERYTHING I RAISE is for my best friend, a Palestinian grad student living in America. The money is sent home to support his friends and family in Palestine and around the rest of the Levant who are being hurt directly and/or financially by the attacks on Gaza, the raids and economic devastation in the West Bank and the collateral damage in surrounding countries (at the moment displaced friends that his family in Lebanon are hosting need groceries and basic supplies, that is likely where this month's funds are going).

Palestine Designs

My Palestinian best friend is an absolutely brilliant scientist and all around amazing person. He genuinely tries to help everyone he meets. It is heartbreaking seeing my dearest friend in so much pain. I wish there was more I could do to help.

A lot of his friends and family all around the Levant are being hurt directly and/or financially by the war. ALL PROCEEDS from the Palestine designs I have been selling will go first and foremost to helping his girlfriend afford to join him in America safely, and after that helping his other loved ones weather this war.

I know it's not much but my hope is to at least ease the financial toll this will take on him, grad students don't have much to begin with and having to stretch what he does have to protect those he loves is going to be really tough as this conflict drags on. I don't want him to have to leave his research, I can't tell you much for his privacy but I assure you it is brilliant work and he loves it so much. No scientist should have to choose between their passion and the safety of their family.

Mostly made with stickers in mind, though you can also find it on shirts, notebooks, hats, etc. There are 5 more versions of a map with a keffiyeh pattern waiting for Redbubble's approval now. We should hear back from the student we're trying to help by the end of this week hopefully, to know if their family figured out passage to Egypt (money is not enough, they have to get approved to leave and I think whatever agency they were originally working with stopped functioning so they're trying to figure it out now). If that works out the money will probably go there, if not it will continue to fill more basic food needs for his other loved ones for now. His friends and family are generally spread through Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon and all over the West Bank, so they are varying levels of in need/accessible for help/contactable, the situation is always in flux and we send the money where it seems to be needed most each month.

I realize the template I use for these posts has gotten pretty formulaic recently and I haven't updated on how my friend himself is doing in a while, so here's a little update. He's still quite sad of course but he seems to be managing it better. It looks to me like he's put a little weight back on. He's going to start seeing a therapist soon which is a huge step for him, it's something he was very resistant to for many months. He's been regularly hiking again which is something that was a huge part of our friendship before the war that he was too sad to do much of for a long time. He's also still doing amazing things with his research and is on track to graduate on time with at least one very early post doc offer already (and he's been a wonderful mentor to the undergrads in his group throughout everything). I'm very proud of him. He's very touched by all the support and kind messages he's received from all of you!

These two photos, of an iris and poppies (both flowers that are commonly used to represent Palestine) come from the Library of Congress's "Wild flowers of Palestine" collection. There's a bunch of other old flower photos on there too but I picked these because they are particularly common symbolism. I tweaked the contrast a bit to make them pop more and added the "فلسطين" label to each so the meaning of the photo is more apparent when you stick them on things. They're small photos so only available as stickers and magnets, here and here.

As usual ALL PROCEEDS from my shop are for my Palestinian best friend, to help him support his girlfriend (though she may attempt to travel back home soon, her immediate area has been fairly safe recently and she wants to be near her family) and to help his friends and family in Palestine and around the rest of the Levant who are being hurt directly and/or financially by the attacks on Gaza, the raids and economic devastation in the West Bank and the collateral damage in surrounding countries. He will donate anything his family doesn't need to the Palestinian charities he works with. He's hoping to donate most/all of it if possible (plus more of his own money) but I want to make sure he has a financial safety net himself first until things are more certain. Grad school pays like shit (which is why I started this shop in the first place, I just switched it from raising money for me to him haha) and so many people he loves are in precarious positions.

The watermelon first emerged as a symbol of Palestine after the six day war in 1967. Israel made public displays of the Palestinian flag illegal so Palestinians would circumvent the ban by using the watermelon, which has the same four colors. I figured it was about time I added a watermelon to my collection, it seems like every shop in this niche has their own version of it. Also the friend I am fundraising for absolutely adores watermelon, he'll eat a whole big one a day during the summer. We grabbed one last second for a hike one time and ate the whole thing with our bare hands out in the woods, it's a really nice memory. So this seems extra fitting.
