Okay let me add my five cents to the Zaunite au, where Viktor didn’t make it to the academy and remained in Zaun.

He was trying to invent on his own, but he desperately needed money for his research. And that’s when Silco appeared…

luke skywalker is kind of an outlier in terms of male protagonists considering his core character trait is sacrifice. he wants to leave tatooine so bad it makes him look stupid. and yet, despite yearly arguments with uncle owen he stays. until there’s nothing left to stay for. he chases after the breadcrumb trail that might leave him just an inch closer to the idea of his father with a desperation bordering on stupidity. and he abandons it the second his friends are in danger. at great personal cost. he gives up what he wants over and over without even thinking about it. idk it’s just fascinating

This is every time I have ever seen George Lucas talk about attachment in Star Wars and every time he has consistently, repeatedly tied attachment to possession, fear, greed, the desire to control people, the dark side, and the inability to accept that life is transitory, that you can’t hold on to people, you can’t keep them, you can’t possess them.  That if you refuse to let go, which is one of the central themes of the movies, it directly leads to the dark side. That, when the Jedi say attachment is forbidden, they are saying that you can’t want to hold onto things so badly that you’ll slide to the dark side and be willign to do anything just to stop yourself from feeling that fear of losing them (which wouldn’t even work anyway). This isn’t only part of the definition of attachment, this is every time attachment is talked about, it’s synonymous with the dark side.  This is the full context of what attachment means in Star Wars and to the Jedi.  Attachment = greed, possession, fear, the inability to accept the nature of life, full stop.  That’s it, that’s the definition in the galaxy far, far away. : (Bolding is mine for drawing the connections between everything said here.) So that you can be compassionate and loving and caring, but not be possessive and grabbing and holding on to things and trying to keep things the way they are.    “The thing with Anakin is that he started out a great kid he was very compassionate, so the issue was how did he turn bad. How did he go to the dark side? He went to the dark side, Jedi aren’t supposed to have attachments. They can love people, they can do that, but they can’t attach, that’s the problem in the world of fear. Once you are attached to something then you become afraid of losing it. And when you become afraid of losing it, then you turn to the dark side, and you want to hold onto it, and that was Anakin’s issue.  Ultimately, that he wanted to hold onto his wife who he knew, he had a premonition that she was going to die, he didn’t know how to stop it, so he went to the dark side.  In mythology you go to Hades, and you talk to the devil, and the devil says ‘this is what you do’ and basically you sell your soul to the devil. She’s been the protector all her life, the one her siblings looked up to, the one Vander looked to in order to keep the kids safe. Then she loses everyone in a single moment, spending the next almost decade ruminating in that guilt. Then she gets Powder back, until she realizes Powder doesn’t exist anymore. She gets Caitlyn, but loses her too.

She seemingly gets part of her family back with Jinx and Warwick/Vander and Isha, only to lose them all too.

And she was supposed to protect them. I can’t see her viewing herself as anything but a failure after having lived with that pressure and guilt for so long.

Okay but imagine Viktor getting a chance to show his undercity roots

They get locked out of the lab and Jayce is like fuck this is Skys day off and she has the extra key set how tf are we getting in and Viktor just starts picking the lock. Jayce hasn’t even gotten through his out-loud thinking process and Viktor already has the door open. He’s so confused. He even designed the door to not get broken into.

They go down to the Zaun markets for things they can’t find in Piltover and Viktor easily haggles down the prices to what they should be and not what they’re trying to charge Jayce. (He does pay full prices for people who actually need the money in Zaun).

Viktor easily charms people for information. Jayce needs help in the council with something and Hoskel is not being helpful at all. He can't go to the other council members. Viktor manages a meeting with him for coffee/drinks and he comes back two hours later with all the information Jayce would need. He had Hoskel eating out of the palm of his hand. He still has no idea how he did it.

Viktor trips people on purpose all the time. Some guy insulted him passing by at a gala and a few minutes later the man tripped and fell into the champagne fountain. Viktor didn't even change his facial expression, no one knew it was him except for Jayce. (Jayce was proud, thought it was funny).

Viktor can pick-pocket. (Sky can too). They have a game of "who can steal the most off Jayce" when they're all in the lab together. Mel has gotten in on it by giving them challenges like adding pins and stickers. Jayce is so confused. He is covered in pins and stickers. Someone help him.

Viktor has the street smarts in addition to his actual book smarts. He and Sky have helped to teach Jayce how to spot things like people getting ready to fight (the physical signs) who to avoid and why, how to get out of a spat in the bad parts of town, and how to use these skills in Piltover (avoiding drunk gala attendees, fighting outside of wine clubs).

Viktor can hold his own in a verbal spat. He's also got a temper when it comes to someone trying to break down his morals or is being just an outright ass. Once got into an argument with a store owner who was being ableist and downright insulting about him being from Zaun. He was gonna let it go but then the guy turned on Jayce and his family. Jayce had to drag him out. Viktor is now banned from the shop.
