I like how when doing a threat display, some owls will adopt an extremely wide-eyed, threatening facial expression

I Like How When Doing A Threat Display, Some Owls Will Adopt An Extremely Wide-eyed, Threatening Facial

But some other owls won't change their expression at all, and will just be like "bro really c'mon i'm very big u really want some of this?"

Do you have any Swoobat facts?

I love Swoobat so much it's the cutest

Swoobat Facts

Do You Have Any Swoobat Facts?

-The scientific name for Swoobat is "Cardilorus gobelinus" which roughly translates to "Courting-heart goblin"

-Swoobat are Chiropterans, with their closest relative being Crobat. Despite their obvious differences, they share many similar traits, l8ke both being cave dwelling and both using echo location

-While the ultrasonic waves they produce can be quite harmful, they rarely use them since it takes a lot of energy, and using it too much leaves them unable to fly for a while

-Swoobat's eyes are almost completely useless in the dark, and they rely entirely on echo location to help navigate the area they're in

-In Unova, Swoobat are often symbols of Valentines day, and many valentine's day decorations will include Swoobat on them

-Male Swoobat will often have multiple partners at a time, with the entire colony caring for their young

-Swoobat berries, fruits, and insects. Often times, they'll leave their caves at night to go hunt for fruit, but there have been Swoobat colonies thst survive purely off of bugs in their caves

-Swoobat sleep upside-down with thir tail latching onto something to keep them in place

Do You Have Any Swoobat Facts?

-The average lifespan for a Swoobat is 35 to 40 years

-Swoobat have very good hearing, which is amplified by their sound waves

-When a Swoobat likes you, they'll often stamp you with their nose or wrap their tail around your arm

-Both Woobat and Swoobat are very cuddly and their fur is very soft. Because of this, and their ability to create a calming effect with their soundwaves, they are often used by therapists

-While the pokedex doesn't mention it, Swoobat still keep the suction cups on their noses. They don't roost by applying them to cave walls however

-In some parts of the world, Swoobat's nose is seen as a good luck charm, and they'll chop it off to get it. This practice is seen as unethical in most parts of the world

-Swoobat's overbite helps them keep bug types in their mouths from escaping

Any Woobat/Swoobat facts? <3

I already did Swoobat facts, but I haven't done Woobat yet!

Woobat Facts

Any Woobat/Swoobat Facts?

-The scientific name for Woobat is "Cardilorus Chiroptera" which roughly translates to "Courting-heart bat"

-Like their scientific name suggests, Woobat are chiropterans, and their closest relatives are Zubat

-It's a common misconception that Chiropterans don't bump into each other in the dark. That isn't true. Zubat bump into each other constantly when they're not using their echo location. But, Woobat bump into each other a lot less in larger colonies. Researchers believe that it is their psychic abilities allowing them to sense the other Woobat easier

-It's also a common misconception that Woobat don't have eyes, however, this isn't the case. Woobat have beady little eyes under their fur, but they dint have very good eyesight, so they instead use echo location and psychic abilities to navigate their surroundings

-It was a common belief in Unova and Galar that the heart-nose that Woobar has is good luck. In Unova, it's still a common practice to try and get a Woobat to stamp something in order to bring good fortune to thst item, so many people will try to have a Woobat stamp their forehead in hand. In Galar though, this belief made people in Galar hunt Woobat in order to take their nose

-Woobat crossbreeds are very common since Woobat aren't at all picky with their mates

-Woobat sleep by sticking their suction-cupped noses to a surface and sticking there. They always leave a heart-shaped mark when they are done. When it's cold, Woobat will huddle close together to keep warm. It makes them look like a giant ball off fluff, and leaves a clump of heart-stamps wherever they slept

Any Woobat/Swoobat Facts?

-Woobat live in large colonies in either caves or forests. The ones I. Galar are more likely to be found in caves (I think it was to avoid being hunted)

-When a male Woobat courts another pokemon, they will bring them food, flutter around them, and emit ultrasonic waves from his nose

-While Woobat shoot their psychic powers through their nose, their psychic abilities don't come from their nose. Their psychic abilities come from a part of their brain known as the psycholobe, but they just shoot the beam through their nose bcuz it's there

-Some old civilizations mistook Woobata for baby goblins. I blame Swoobat'a appearance for that

-Despite bats like Zubat and Noinar hibernating, Woobat and Swoobat do not hibernate. Instead, they'll gain a lot of fluff and fat during the winter and scrounge for the food they can

-While many people find Woobat and their antics annoying, Woobat are actually very good for the environment. They eat pests, and their waste is good fertilizer. Many farmers enjoy Woobat a lot, and some farmers will purposely try to attract woobat to their farms

Gregor the Overlander

The cover of Gregor the Overlander by Suzanna Collins

When Gregor falls through a grate in the laundry room of his apartment building, he hurtles into the dark Underland, where spiders, rats, cockroaches coexist uneasily with humans. This world is on the brink of war, and Gregor's arrival is no accident. A prophecy foretells that Gregor has a role to play in the Underland's uncertain future. Gregor wants no part of it -- until he realizes it's the only way to solve the mystery of his father's disappearance. Reluctantly, Gregor embarks on a dangerous adventure that will change both him and the Underland forever.

Okay I'm aware the audience for my Tumblr blog is not quite the same as the audience for middle-grade portal fantasy, but if this website is still talking about Percy Jackson then I can talk about this one. I read a lot of 6-to-8-book middle grade fantasy series and I can say with one hundred percent certainty that this is the best one. It's brutal. It's weird. You'll cry about a cockroach the size of a dog. You'll question the nature of fate itself. If any of you know any 8-12 year olds who haven't yet been scarred for life by a book series that will change their brain chemistry forever, do them a favor and pick them up this book.

Also, if you liked the Hunger Games, it's the same author. Did she tone it down when writing for younger audiences? Not even a little.

Neither did I! It's in the OP's last fact sheet; Tadarida brasiliensis (TABR) is the scientific name for the Mexican free-tailed bat. Or, rather, the Brazilian free-tailed bat, of which the Mexican freetail is a regional subspecies thereof (Tadarida brasiliensis mexicana).

Fun fact! TABR are the fastest flying animals, clocking in with a level flight speed of almost 100mi/h - or roughly 160km/h. While the peregrine falcon is capable of sustaining higher velocities, that is in a dive and thus gravity-assisted - not sustained level flight. (and if some fellows might want to banter on about that somehow counting against the Molossidae, well... an individual has the option to reference STS-119.)

They also smell like corn chips / tacos. No, that's not a joke. https://batworld.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/free-tails-smell-like-tacos.pdf

Vegans of tumblr, listen up. Harvesting agave in the quantities required so you dont have to eat honey is killing mexican long-nosed bats. They feed off the nectar and pollinate the plants. They need the agave. You want to help the environment? Go back to honey. Your liver and thyroid will thank you, as well. Agave is 90% fructose, which can cause a host of issues. Bye.

live reaction: "...That's a frugivorous species, a fruit bat, of the Artibeus genus. not a carnivorous bat. might have a nose leaf and sharp teeth but they're not like a Chrotopter- oh, it's pregnant."

congrats to the lil'bat, and blessings upon the even lil'er bats!

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day

What's better than one eastern red bat? Three eastern red bats! Female Lasiurus borealis give birth to litters of 2 or 3 pups, with some outgoing mothers giving birth to as many as 5! This is highly unusual amongst bats, as most other species typically only give birth to one pup per season.

An eastern red bat hanging upside-down from a twig. It is about the size of a large maple leaf, and its fur is dusty red. Its face is slightly smashed in, and is framed by short, rounded ears.
