Sissi – Das Musical

Sissi Das Musical (Also called Sissi – Liebe, Macht und Leidenschaft) is a German musical composed by George Amadé (music) and Jean Müller (book/lyrics). It premiered in Nanjing, China in 2008 followed by the European premiere in April 2012.

Fun Fact: It was commissioned by the Chinese government, reflecting the country's enduring fascination with the empress.

According to reviews, much like the Romy Schneider films, it lacks depth and is weighed down by excessive kitsch.

This is not Elisabeth das Musical, it's an opera-musical by Austrian composer Roland Baumgartner also based on Sissi's life.

The musical premiered in Mörbisch in 1991 and is one of the first modern musicals about Empress Elisabeth of Austria.

Costumes of Moulin Rouge! The Musical

Costume Designer Catherine Zuber, who has been nominated 15 times for a Tony Award (and has won 8 of them, including her nomination for Moulin Rouge!) created about 300 costumes for the spectacular musical.

The artisans at Parson’s Costumes in NYC have been known to create 793 unique pieces for the show by translating Zuber’s illustrations.

Although rooted in turn of the century Belle Époque fashion, the designs embrace contemporary influences, making concessions for a modern score and choreography.

From the colourful Can-Can skirts worn by the dance ensemble, Satine's crystallized corset, and the hand-painted costumes inspired by the artwork of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, every piece is truly a labour of love.

When Anya attends the ballet, she wears a pink gown during the initial premiere at Hartford Stage.

When the show moved to Broadway, Linda Cho reworked the costume referencing the Blue Gown from the 1997 animated movie.

This version has a fitted bodice with beading and sequins, off-the-shoulder straps with delicate crystal chains, a flowing skirt, and a long cape. It is paired long, elbow-length white gloves.

The Champagne Pink Gown with fluttery cape-like sleeves and short mesh gloves was featured in the initital Hartford run of Anastasia.

As many fans wanted to see the familiar blue gown from the 1997 animated movie, costume designer Linda Cho later reworked the costume for the subsequent Broadway run in 2017.
