Struggle City, Population Jess Harper, pt 1
Somebody probably said this 50 years ago when the show was on air but the running gag of people getting starsky and hutch confused with each other is so interesting because at the end of the day it really doesn't actually matter which name you call. They're a pair. If you call starsky, hutch is gonna walk in right beside him and if you call hutch, starsky is there as well. Referring to them individually is just a formality because 85% of the time calling one is functionally the same as calling both.

s1:e4 - Fugitive Road
This episode has so many great quotes portraying the growth of their relationship, I'm not even going to analyze it. The dialogue speaks for itself.
------
JH - "Takes time to drive a stake deep." SS - "Eh, this is good country, Jess. Good land. It holds a stake firm once it's set in." JH - "Yeah, it's good country."
------
JH - "Let me get used to the bridle before you set the saddle, huh?"
------
JH - "One thing I never learned how to do was swim." SS - "How'd you like your first lesson?" JH - "Fine. Except, never figured you'd be here to give it to me." SS - "I'm full of surprises. Like I got three horses waiting back up the trail."
------
JH - "It ain't good when a friendship makes a man go against himself." SS - "Yeah, well, sometimes a friendship, or a man, needs a test."
------
JH - "You reckon this country will take them stakes again?" SS - "It never let go of the other ones."
