Bsd Wan 192: Dazai, Chuuya, Age Fourteen – If I Had The Power

Yes, it's the actual thing, and yes, it contains suicide methods that are described pretty graphically. However, it is not my intent, nor the author's, to show this stuff to encourage suicide by any mean. I know that some people are curious about what's in it, and so I simply wanted to do them a favour by sharing it here.

Dostoevsky's and Dazai's religious ideologies were like complete opposites and I was all for it when working on The Gospel.

I would've totally dug deeper into Dostoevsky but I haven't finished Crime and Punishment yet so everything on Dostoevsky's end is from my research, if any of you have read Crime and Punishment (or any of his works really), let me know if Google was correct.

So I'm thinking the reason why The Gospel is 130 whatever pages is because I'm digging in on an individual level, and then like I'm like also writing this as if someone doesn't know the entire plot of BSD. Well, ok, that was more necessary for like 15, Stormbringer, and the Dragon Head Incident just cause not everyone has read those, but I'm also using the manga for this analysis and I've noticed some differences between the anime and the manga so I'm coming across scenes that like I wasn't even aware of in the Prison Arc.

Also I try to differentiate when I'm talking about the real life author by calling the actual author by their last name out of respect and calling the anime character by their first name. So like with Fyodor I refer to the anime character as Fyodor but the author as Dostoevsky in my analysis. That's kinda hard to do with Dazai though so...you guys are just gonna have to figure out when I'm talking about real life Dazai and anime Dazai...sorry.

Anyway, quick update, enjoy these crumbs because I do have finals coming up so I won't be able to work as much as I want to on this. Progress will be slow and/or come to a complete halt in the next few weeks, but once I am free it is going to be WRITING time lemme tell you.

I'm about done with the Prison Arc, just covered Chuuya killing Dazai yesterday. Literally had to research the impact of bullet wounds in the shoulder thank you Chuuya. Then after that I actually plan on redoing the 15 arc completely just because my writing style really developed over the course of this analysis and I want to match that. Then onto proofreading and finalizing.

Chuuya: Driving around aimlessly. Dazai: Staring at the ceiling while thinking about ways to bother Chuuya.

Q: What kind of food do you like in the summer? Why?

Chuuya: Cold champagne after work, but only under the condition that Dazai is not there. Dazai: A drink after work while happily watching Chuuya drink the champagne that I switched out with vinegar.

Doesn't this song sound a bit like Dazai?

the thing about fem!dazai is that she would not look like that. she would wear the same exact outfits she wears in canon. she would not wear makeup. she would grow out her hair only because she's too lazy to cut it, and she would rarely actually brush it. (the messy look is part of my charm ;)) her nails would be bitten and picked at, and if she ever were to wear nail polish, it would have been forced on her by either chuuya or yosano. she wouldn't wear heels because she doesn't like pain. she wouldn't even have her ears pierced because she doesn't like pain. chuuya tried to convince her when they were teenagers and she kept coming up with increasingly absurd excuses for why she couldn't get her ears pierced. she wears socks with flats because it's more comfortable even though chuuya ridicules her endlessly because "don't you know how horrendous that looks". (why are you looking at my feet? dazai retorts is it because you can't see any higher than that?) the only times she's ever dressed up were for undercover missions in the port mafia, and she griped about being uncomfortable in her clothes and shoes and makeup the entire time. she doesn't even look at her reflection, so why would she spend hours curating the perfect look? she just throws one of her three outfits on and goes

Of course, he'd learn to hide it overtime, but sometimes, especially when he's angry, his accent comes out and it's disastrous.

Oh and also, there'd be Kouyou, with the classic posh accent, desperately trying to understand what in bloody hell Chuuya at 15 was saying cuz he spoke way too fast and his accent was too heavy. Bonus points if she was always trying to correct his pronounciation.
