‘Almost’, the most depressing word in my dictionary. If you want to know the reason behind it, we’ll have to go back in time.
Our grade 1 teacher had suggested to fix our seats alphabetically. That didn’t sound bad to me. Because Jungkook and I were the only students with the initial J for our names. Or at least that was what I thought.
“Jessie” my teacher called me to seat at the very back of the first row. I smiled at Jungkook and went over to take my seat.
“John” the teacher called next.
“Who the hell is John?” I thought while the new boy in our class came to sit beside me.
“Now Jungkook would sit at the very front of the second row” the teacher announced.
Jungkook went to his assigned seat and looked back for a moment to catch my eyes. It was a signal for me to persuade the teacher to let us sit together.
I knew I had to do it. Because Jungkook would rather die than argue with the teacher on any matter. I, on the other hand, searched for every single chance to contradict my teachers. It was something I found really amusing.
As soon as I put forward my request, our teacher replied with, “Who would complain on such a peaceful organization of the seats other than you?”
The other students started to laugh. As much as I can recall, we had some minutes of argument when finally the teacher said, “Alright! Let’s ask Jungkook on what he has to say about it.”
Then he turned to Jungkook and asked, “Do you want to go over to the back to sit with her? Or are you happy with my decision?”
Jungkook nodded his head and said, “I’m fine, here” like a complete idiot.
I remembered how his reply had hurt my pride and since then I had never sat beside him in any class, not even when we had gone to the high school. We were almost going to sit together for a whole year and more to come. But no!
None of us would introduce the other as the best friend. Nonetheless we had the closest bond than any best friends’ duo of our class. In fact, we were more than friends. We knew it and so did everyone else.
Some people couldn’t understand how we ended up together while others would say, “opposite attracts.”
We were totally opposite in terms of our personalities. I was wild, adventurous and free-spirited while Jungkook was shy, introverted and conserved. But these were merely what appeared on the outside. I believed him to be more like me spiritually. He just had been taming the animal within himself.
Perhaps I was the only one who could see that. Whatever it was, nobody would deny the fact that we were surely an unusual couple.
The next incident also happened at the farewell party of our Elementary School. I was talking with a bunch of boys and joking around.
I knew Jungkook would not join us since he didn't like the crowds. So I didn't bother calling him either.
The party was over and we were walking home together. Suddenly he said, "I didn't like seeing you there." he paused for a moment and added, "With THEM."
I laughed, "What are you talking about?"
"You know exactly what I am talking about"
"Okay, I understand." I said. "You were probably lonely in there. But hey! We are going to the same High School. But some of the boys are leaving the town. I will get to meet you anytime I want. But not them."
"Whatever!" Jungkook sighed in exasperation.
"Why are you making such a huge deal out of it?"
"Because, I don't want to share you with anyone."
"Why?" I asked, rather shocked.
"Because you're my..." Then he abruptly stopped.
I stopped walking. "What?" I urged him to continue.
Jungkook went red on the face but didn't say anything further.
"For God's sake, Jungkook, just say it." I wished to myself.
"Let's hurry!" He said, "We’re already late."
And that was it. Jungkook almost called me his girlfriend. If only he really did, I would have gladly accepted that. Perhaps then, our relationship could have gotten a tag.
We were only 13 back then. I had sneaked a bottle of whiskey from the kitchen cabinet where my father usually kept them. I was always curious about adult drinking that I wanted to try it myself. But doing something this big alone didn’t sound exciting at all.
Of course, I had told Jungkook earlier to sneak out of his house at midnight to meet me at the little junkyard. Reluctantly he had agreed. He actually showed up even though I doubted that he would.
“Guess what I have with me?” I asked him.
“Umm…” he went on to his usual loading mood.
I didn’t have any patience left so I showed him the bottle right away. Jungkook gasped as soon as he saw it. His reaction made me feel more proud of myself for accomplishing the task.
Jungkook tried to persuade me not to drink it. But it was hopeless as I was too determined. As soon as I sipped directly from the bottle I spited it out.
“Yuck!” I shouted, “How can people enjoy drinking this thing?”
Jungkook started to giggle at my reaction. I wasn’t feeling confident anymore. I had to try something else to prove that I was braver than him.
“Stop laughing!” I said boldly, “as if you’ve ever done anything fun in your life before.”
“You didn’t do anything to boast about either.” He said as a matter of fact. "You’re all talk.”
“Who said that? I’ve done quite a lot of things.”
“Like?” he was mocking me at that point.
I quickly tried to make up a lie to get away from the embarrassing situation, “Like I already had my first kiss?”
“What?”
The shock on his face was satisfying. So, I continued, “Yeah, of course, dummy.”
Jungkook frowned and asked, “Who was it?”
“Why would I tell YOU?” I started to tease him now, “I bet you have no idea about these stuffs anyway.”
“I don’t believe you.” He said.
I walked closer to him and said, “Why? Do you want me to prove it?” Jungkook took a step back and I started to laugh.
“I know about these stuffs as much as you do, okay?” he tried to argue.
“Then prove it.” I said in a very serious voice.
Jungkook remained quiet. I slowly walked toward him. He took two steps back causing him to be pinned to the nearby broken car. I rested one of my hand on the car to his left.
Through the moonlight, in the otherwise dark night, I could see Jungkook’s face clearly now. He had shut his eyes closed. I leaned to close the distance between our faces. Our chests were already touching and I could feel his heart beating fast. His trembling lips were parted a little.
I was almost within the reach to feel his breath on my lips, when I realized, he might be frightened. And I moved away. Jungkook opened his eyes and looked at me in confusion.
“I lied,” I said, “I never kissed anyone before.”
I’d had enough. I wanted to get rid of this unestablished relationship I was in with Jungkook. I finally decided I would ask him to be my boyfriend. I had even saved enough money to buy him a nice watch once we were official.
“I have something to tell you.” I said as soon as we met.
“Me too.” Jungkook replied.
“Okay, I'll let you go first.” I was shocked at his calm voice, “Mine can wait.”
Jungkook bent his head down and he said, “I've got accepted.”
“What?”
“You remember about the audition, right?”
“Oh yeah, right!” I said, remembering, “The audition. So, what now?”
“They had called me to sign the contract and go stay in Seoul.”
I didn't know what to say. I never really thought about what was going to happen if he got accepted by the company.
I asked hopefully, “But you'll come back again right?”
Jungkook was too quiet. Something felt wrong. That time, I knew it was the end. He was never coming back to me. A new life awaited him. How could I stop him now?
I smiled, "I knew you would do well."
“But I don't want to go away.”
I could see tears were forming in his eyes. My own tears threatened me to burst out at any time. I still managed to hold it back and said, “What are you talking about? It's a life changing opportunity.”
Jungkook wiped away the tear that just fell from one of his eyes. He slowly nodded his head. He understood.
“Jessie!” he called.
“Hmm?”
“Didn't you want to say something earlier?” he asked.
“Yeah.” I said, “I want to buy you a watch. Consider it as a goodbye gift.”
That’s how our story ended with yet another almost. It could have gone differently. If only I could bring myself to ask him to be mine, could he refuse? Didn't he loved me enough to leave behind everything to be with me? Apparently I never found out.
It had been ten long years. By the time, I had witnessed Jungkook growing up little by little on screen. I had been his number one fan since day one. He along with his group had gone so far now.
I was really grateful to all of his hyungs, who had been there for Jungkook all these years. They had made him who he was today. They had helped him to grow and come out of his shell. I was more than just proud of him.
My life had been different than what I had imagined it would be like. Nonetheless I was doing okay. However, one day, something really unexpected occur.
I saw Jungkook for the first time in ten years. He had come to the store I work in to buy his all-time favorite banana milkshake. He was wearing a cap to hide his face, so that no one could recognize him at a first glance. But how could I not? He was my first, if not last, love.
I was a little shocked when he put the milkshake in front of the counter. Our eyes met for a split second. Jungkook quickly looked away and handed me the cash and said, “Keep the change.” Then, he was gone.
He didn’t recognize me. I doubted he would have. I had shorter hair than him, too many piercings on my ears and nose, tattoos on my arms, neck and even face.
Life almost gave me a chance to be reunited with my Jungkook, only to snatch that hope away in the end.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Chapter 7 - Chapter 8 - Chapter 9 - Chapter 10 [Complete]
The sirens went off, making it hard to hear one another properly. They had come out of the tunnel. But there were guards and wizards all around, coming at them with their weapons.
Namjoon turned to Yoongi and shouted through the deafening noise of the alarm, “We will fight them. You search for Hoseok.”
When Yoongi was about to leave, Namjoon grabbed his hand and added, “Look for Seokjin too.” Yoongi nodded and ran towards the stairs.
Namjoon looked at the remaining members by his side, the latest to join their team, ‘the golden trio’ as they liked to call them. He tried to put on a smile on his face as he said, “No matter what happens today, know this; if we go down, we go down fighting!”
“Fighting!” Jimin and Jungkook shouted in union while Taehyung, being in his wolf form, howled. Then they all jumped on their enemies.
Namjoon spread out his huge black wings and took a flight. From above, he could clearly see everyone’s position. Even though inside a building, it looked like a battle field. He thought to himself, “So, this is how it feels to be in a real battle.”
Jungkook aimed for the guards with the wooden arrows first and started to disarm them one by one. Because of his amazing speed, the guards failed to catch up with him. But, the number of guards were too many for a single vampire to handle.
Namjoon got down with a huge force and caused some guards to fall back. He used his wings to disarm a bunch of them all at once. Jungkook looked at him in awe for a moment before going back to fight again. Despite their situation, it brought a smile on Namjoon’s face.
The wizards and guards were mostly focusing on Jimin. But his swift movements helped him to escape their traps. He dodged almost every bullets being fired at him.
Taehyung, on the other hand, jumped at those Jimin had failed to notice. He attacked them suddenly, making them miss their targets.
They were handling it well until the ‘Master of Shadow’ appeared. They didn’t notice his approach. He made his way directly to Jimin through the messy fight. Then, he placed his thumb on Jimin’s forehead, making him still instantly.
Jimin looked around in panic as his surrounding changed abruptly. Wherever he looked, all he could see were large trees. It didn’t make any sense to him. How could he be teleported into a whole different place in a second?
“Jimin-ah!” a familiar voice spoke from behind him.
Jimin looked back at the owner of the voice. Even before he saw the face, he knew very well whom it belonged to. “Sarang?” he called, disbelief spread on his face as he looked at the person he once used to call the ‘love of his life’.
The girl raised her hand towards him. Jimin reached to touch her hand, doubting that his hand might go right through it. But it was solid as it could be. Jimin sighed in relief.
The girl slowly led him out of the forest into a path. “Where are you taking me?” as soon as the question left his mouth, he knew the answer immediately.
He knew exactly where she was leading him to. He knew exactly what was going to happen next. He had lived this precise moment. He had lived it more than a hundred years ago.
“No!” he wanted to scream. He wanted to stop walking. He wanted to take away his hand from her. But none of his actions seemed to belong to him anymore. He was, as if, a puppet made to do whatever the puppeteer wished to be done.
He was brought to the middle of the bazaar of a village. The girl let go of his hand and ran away to a nearby house. One by one, the villagers appeared in front of him, each holding a torch made out of fire. Jimin was surrounded by monsters. He was surrounded by humans.
The leader among them shouted, “Let’s free our forest of this monster’s control. Let’s burn the Gumiho down.” And they all raised their torches towards the sky before coming at him. He was going to be burned. There wasn’t enough time for him to make it rain to stop the fire.
Suddenly, Jimin remembered. These people belonged to the past. They were all dead now. Jimin, himself, had killed them. He had made his escape from them, burning the whole village down in the process.
Jimin forced his eyes shut and concentrated really hard. A memory suddenly peaked at his mind’s eyes. It was of him and the ‘Bulletproof’ boys on a cold snowy day. They were gathered before the fireplace, all wrapped up inside a single huge blanket.
He remembered that he was supposed to be at the OHA facility with his friends, fighting a new group of humans. He needed to come back to reality. He needed to save his friends and himself.
Jimin opened his eyes.
Yoongi kept searching aimlessly through the empty second floor corridor and the rooms within. It seemed like every member of the OHA had gone to fight his friends.
He was worried about them. But mostly, he was worried about Hoseok. He had promised to protect him at all cost. But those monsters had taken him away in front of Yoongi. And Yoongi couldn’t do anything about it.
He kept muttering the freezing spell under his breath in case any guard showed up. He stopped abruptly in front of a seemingly empty room. Hoseok was lying on the floor, eyes closed, in a pool of blood.
Yoongi immediately ran towards him and kneeled down. Blood stained his arms and clothes. As he took Hoseok’s head on his lap, Hoseok opened his eyes slowly. Tears were glistening on his eyes and cheeks.
“You came?” Hoseok said, his voice merely a whisper.
Yoongi stared at him silently. It was too late. They had cut off his wings. Yoongi had failed his friend once again. At that precise moment, nothing seemed to matter to Yoongi anymore. He would have gladly ceased to exist if given the chance.
“They had taken my wings away.” Hoseok said, as if he was informing about someone’s death. A moment of silence passed between them. Then, Hoseok continued, “Go get him before he uses my wings on himself. He would hurt you once he became too powerful.”
A tear fell from Yoongi’s eye. How could Hoseok think about them being hurt when he, himself, was surrounded by his own blood?
“It’s all my fault.” Yoongi said, “I shouldn’t have brought any of you to fight these monsters.”
Hoseok raised his head closer to Yoongi’s chest. He hugged Yoongi around the neck and said, “Thanks to you I realized that some things are worth fighting for. I fought for my friends. And I’m glad that I did. Even if it caused me to lose the most precious part of myself.”
Hearing Hoseok saying those words hurt Yoongi even more. He couldn’t control himself anymore. He hugged onto Hoseok and started to sob, whispering softly, “I’m sorry, my friend. Please, forgive me for I couldn’t keep my promise.”
“Don’t you worry, now. I’m not afraid anymore. I’m happy to die on my friend’s arms.” Hoseok whispered back.
Yoongi shook his head, wiping his tears with one hand and holding Hoseok tightly with the other, “No! You’re not going to die. Not today!”
Jimin opened his eyes only to find himself being chained up and sitting on the floor. The sound of the alarm and that of the fighting had stopped. The sudden silence scared him. He looked around for his friends.
Among some dead and unconscious guards and wizards lying all around, Jimin saw Jungkook. He was bleeding through his arms, where an arrow was still stuck inside. Namjoon was by his side, spreading his wings around in an attempt to shield him from the approaching guards.
Jimin’s eyes desperately searched for his best friend. How could he not notice the big black wolf in the crowd? Then, he saw him. Taehyung, in his human form, was lying on the far corner. His body showed no movements at all. It was hard to tell from Jimin’s place if he was still alive or not.
Jimin tried to get rid of the chains. But the more he struggled to free himself, the more the chains seemed to be tightening around his hands and legs. A faint glow of red light appeared from it every time he moved.
“It’s no use.” The ‘Master of Shadow’ announced, making Jimin yelped as he didn’t notice him in front of him all this time. “Only someone who’s not bound to those chains can free you.”
Then, the Master looked around. The place looked exactly like an aftermath of a huge battle. He shook his head, “What a pitiable state you’ve landed yourselves in!”
“Let them go.” Jimin stated, “You need me the most. I promise I won’t try to resist to anything you do to me. But in return you have to free them and never go after them again.”
“That’s right!” The Master sighed heavily, “We need you. But it’s only a matter of time before you’ll be killed. Can’t you see? You’re in no position to negotiate.”
“I beg you, then.” Jimin pleaded, almost tearing up at the thought of his friends being hurt, “Kill me if you have to. But let my friends go. You have no use of them anymore.”
The ‘Master of Shadow’ continued as if Jimin hadn’t spoken, “Your friends, on the other hand, will answer for all the damage they had caused us.”
“Bold of you to assume that we’re done already.” Someone shouted from behind the ‘Master’. Before, he could look back, a rope pulled him with an incredible speed, making him sit on a chair with a heavy thump. Then, he was tied up to the chair by the rope in a flash. “As far as I know, not even the strongest wizard can cut through the rope of Hestia.”
“Seokjin!” Jimin called in excitement. Seokjin smiled at his friend but couldn’t greet him back as the guards those were guarding Namjoon and Jungkook, noticed him. As soon as they did, they started to fire aimlessly at Seokjin.
But he moved away instantly from his friends. And the guards followed. When they had gone into a minimum safe distance from the injured creatures, Seokjin took out something from his pocket and threw it at the guards and wizards. Immediately there was a huge blast and the smoke took over their surrounding.
Seokjin made the best of the brief moment. He quickly unchained Jimin and they both ran towards Taehyung. “Can you carry him out?” Seokjin asked Jimin and he nodded.
Namjoon and Jungkook were already on the move. At that time, others came running through the stairs. They were afraid that more guards had come to stop them.
But to their surprise, they saw that those were the previous prisoners of the OHA. Seokjin had released them, one by one, all this time while his friends were busy fighting the OHA. They saw that with the prisoners, were their beloved friends. Yoongi was carrying an unconscious Hoseok in a bridal way.
“Make it quick.” Seokjin urged them to go out before the guards and the wizards gain their stabilities back.
They all run through the exit door and come out into the open. “C’mon! Through the forest!” Seokjin directed them forward, trailing behind them as they go.
He took a one last look at the OHA facility before pressing the button on the remote in his hand, making the whole building explode with an ear-splitting roar.

Hello there. Can you please write a riot club imagine? There the reader will be Guy's sister and has a crush on Dimitri. Dimitri knows it and flirts with the reader. The reader wants Dimitri to take her out.
That Time:
I was looking forward to this Christmas vacation. Not only because I was meeting my brother, Guy, after a while, but also because I was gonna meet someone I really adore.
He was Dimitri, my brother’s best friend since school. I’ve remembered meeting him on many occasions. I have always liked him a lot. The way he talks in a Greek-English accent, the way he often fixes his hair, even the way he swears while he talks, impresses me to a great extent.
I feel like Guy had noticed my growing feelings for Dimitri. He always keeps on saying how Dimitri always spoke of me as if I was his little sister, which annoys me a lot. I am only three years younger than him. That doesn’t make me little.
I was waiting by the door to receive Guy and Dimitri as they arrived. Guy gave mum a quick kiss on the cheek and hugged me gently.
“You’re still studying hard?” Guy joked. He always jokes about me being a nerd and all. I ignored him and shook Dimitri’s hand.
“GOD!” Dimitri exhaled, “You’ve grown so much since I saw you last.” I couldn’t help but blush.
“You must be really tired, boys.” my mum called them inside.
We had dinner together. Mum talked with them all the time. Dimitri told her about how he ended up deciding to come to our house while his parents went to Greece that year. I found myself looking at him at times. It felt like the more I look at him the more I fell in love with him.
But he simply ignored me through the dinner and talked to my mother instead. When mother left us to talk after the pudding was when Dimitri actually cared to look at me.
“I didn’t think you’ll grow up to be this gorgeous,” Dimitri smirked, “I mean, look at Guy, surely he can’t be your brother.”
The smile on my face died as I looked at Guy’s irritated expression. “She’s only 16. mate.”
“Exactly,” Dimitri said, still smiling.
I opened my mouth to say something but Guy interrupted me and said “Y/N, you can go to your room now.”
“But...” I tried to protest. But this time Dimitri stopped me, “It’s okay, Y/N. He’s just playing brother here. I’ll handle it.” He winked and turned to Guy.
I left the room quickly to stop myself from giggling.
Really love that Arthur is the Once and Future King because we imortalize him. We keep bringing him back through our stories.
Rating: 5/5
Summary: The story is set in 1920′s and it is fully narrated in the first person. Nick Carraway moved in to the Long Island in hope of starting a new life. What he didn’t notice was that the mysterious, wealthy and the host of the best parties, Gatsby, is his neighbor. And one day, he received an invitation, (which is very rare as people went there without invitations) to one of Gatsby’s exclusive parties. Little by little, Nick got to know Gatsby more and he was definitely not the kind of person one presumed he was.
My Opinion: This is one of the books I will never forget. Beautifully written, this book has both luxury and romance in its best form. The story is very simple but gripping. I think, everyone should read this book as it is one of the best classics of American literature. It is humorous as much as heartbreaking. The characters are very developed and relatable. I could find similarities of those characters with the people I know. The ending of the book broke my heart, as it will break anyone’s. Still I’ll never stop recommending this book because the heartbreak is worth it.
Favourite Character: Gatsby is definitely my favourite character among all. His determination and hard work is truly inspiring. His loyalty to a friend and the sacrifice he was ready to make for a love made me fall in love with him. He deserved a lot more than this.
Favourite Quotes: “He smiled understandingly--much more than understandingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life.”

Summary: Spending the summer vacation with an ill grandma in a remote village turns mysterious...
I attempted to write down a rare experience I got to have while I visited my late grandma’s village. The story I am about to tell is no ordinary tale. It is, in many ways, unbelievable too. So, I would rather let my readers decide upon believing it.
It was the summer of 2017. My grandma was diagnosed with a deadly disease and the doctors feared that she wouldn’t make it till the next year. I had a long vacation of two months from school. I didn’t have any plans either. At that moment, my only desire was to visit my grandma for the last time on her deathbed, even though it was said that she couldn’t recognize anyone.
It was the very first time I sat foot in that remote village. I had expected a lot from it since it was located far away from the city. But in reality, nothing about the village appealed to me. It was just an ordinary village with ordinary people.
My grandma didn’t come to greet me. When I went to meet her, she didn’t even bother to look at me. I could tell by looking in her eyes that she was in pain. But as always, my sweet grandma didn’t want to burden anyone with it. I spent three days in the house without getting out for once. Within these three days, I had constantly sat beside grandma and talked to her in hope that she might recognize her youngest granddaughter at some point. But that didn’t happen.
Finally, it was the fourth day when I got bored of playing offline games on my phone. Since the network connection wasn’t the best at that place, I decided to take a look at my surrounding areas. Like I had mentioned before, the village had nothing interesting to enjoy. There was no place for sightseeing.
After some minutes of aimlessly walking around I came to a stop near what looked like a ruin of an old garden. I spent a minute or two looking at its broken gate. Then I finally went in. Once again, I was disappointed after finding nothing but a bunch of wild plants growing all around the place.
There was an old well at the far corner. I felt like I should go and check it before I left the place for good. As I walked towards it I felt uncomfortable and strange. I remembered I was all alone in an abandoned garden with no house that could be seen or people that could be heard.
Yet I couldn’t turn back without a close view of the well. It was as abandoned as the garden itself. Vines and roots grew all around it. The huge stones had cracks. When I peeked inside I was shocked to see water that hadn’t dried out yet. I could see my reflection perfectly in the black water inside.
I was about to go away when I heard someone behind me. There was a little boy sitting on the ground, his back leaning against the well.
How come I didn't notice him in the first place?
He wasn’t wearing much clothes than necessary, I guessed it was because of the hot weather. He was dirty from his head to toe. I went closer to check on him. I found out that he was humming a tune while scratching his ankles.
“Hey!” I called him, “What are you doing here, all alone?”
He quitted humming at my intrusion and glanced at me for a moment. Then he looked down on his ankles and started to scratch them again. I felt an urge to stop him from doing that. His feet looked swollen and red.
Instead I asked, “Where are your parents?”
“They died… long ago,” he answered in a low voice.
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that!” I went closer to sit in front of him, “Do you live nearby?” There were no houses in sight that could suggest his home. But I still looked around for any sign of life.
In reply, the boy looked at the well behind him for a moment. Then, he looked at me and asked, “Are you a foreigner?”
“No. I came from the city.” I replied.
“So, you are a foreigner!” he stated. This time with a thrill in his eyes. So, I nodded my head in defeat. Maybe he considered everyone apart from the villagers a foreigner.
“You shouldn’t do that.” I said, indicating his merciless scratching.
“It’s okay!” he smiled at me, “It doesn’t hurt anymore.”
I studied his face for a while. Even though it was dirty, I could tell that the boy was really beautiful. He had big doe eyes with long eyelashes. His small mouth looked really cute when he smiled. Also, he had the kind of smile that makes others do the same at its sight.
So, I automatically smiled back at him.
“C’mon!” I stood up, “I’m going now. You shouldn’t be here all alone. This place is giving me the creeps.”
“You’re going away already?” the boy asked. The smile on his face was gone. His big eyes were filling up with tears all of a sudden.
“Aww, don’t cry.” I said, giving him my hand, “I'm not leaving you. I’ll take you to your home.”
“I can’t go.” he shook his head.
“Why?” I asked, rather astonished at the bold reply coming from an otherwise soft spoken little boy.
The boy retreated to his previous position. He continued humming the tune and scratched his ankles as well. I tried convincing him to come with me for some time. He started to completely ignore me.
I checked my watch. It was past lunch time. I knew grandfather was probably really angry by now because he doesn’t like delaying meal times. So, I told the boy to go home early and not to come to the place again. I had to leave him alone by the well.
I had almost forgotten all about it. But another meeting reminded me of my encounter with the little boy by the well.
I laid awake in my bed. The little boy sat at the furthest corner from me. I stared at him for some time, watching him scratch his ankles and humming the familiar tune.
When our eyes met, he let himself smile. "You're awake!" He stated.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him.
"I came because you didn't come to see me again." He replied.
"Did you wait for me?" I asked.
The boy nodded.
"Where?"
"Why? By the well in the garden!"
"Didn't I tell you not to go there alone?"
The boy laughed at me, "But I live there, silly."
I didn't understand him. Suddenly I remembered I was sleeping and I hadn't really woken up.
How could I tell that I was dreaming?
"Oh no! You're gonna wake up now, aren't you?" The boy pouted his lips.
"How do you…" I couldn't finish my question. I was already awake. And as I checked, the boy was gone too.
I couldn't make myself go back to sleep again. It was already dawn. So, I walked around the house. I heard my grandma calling me from within her room as I walked past it. My eyes grew larger.
She remembered me!
"Oh, granny. My lovely, granny." I sprinted inside her room and hugged her.
"When did you come, my love?" She asked, a sweet smile on her lips.
We talked for some time. Grandma said that she felt a lot better and was so happy to see me. She wondered why mother didn't come. I said she was very busy with her work. I lied because I didn't want to worry her about mother's health. And I knew she wasn't the type to get hurt when someone couldn't manage their time. It is a cruel world, after all.
At some point, grandma was reminiscing about the old times. Long ago when she was young and not yet married. She used to live here, in this village, at that time. She talked as if her memory of her childhood was just a few days back. I felt like she had forgotten me at some stage and mistook me for her best friend of childhood instead as she talked.
At one point, I asked her about the old garden. I asked if it was in use at her times. She looked at me with dreadful eyes, "don't speak of it. Don't you know, it's a forbidden place to walk in?"
"Why is it forbidden, Grandma?" I asked curiously.
"Oh, dear!" She suddenly started to laugh, "I keep forgetting that it's you." and placed a kiss on my forehead.
"Grandma," I called, "Please, tell me about the garden. I wanna know."
"It was a long time ago. Even before I was born. There was a legend about the well in the garden." grandma spoke dreamily.
"What legend?"
"At the time when the first gypsies came to settle down in the land, it was a barren one. No river. No rain. Nothing. Nobody knows why the river gypsies chose to live in such a land after years of floating in water. But they struggled against this land. It wasn't habitable for life at all. They decided they'll excavate a well. After months of labor they did it too. But it was only a matter of days before the water dried out after the well was built."
"Why?" I asked as grandma stopped to take a breath.
Grandma nodded, "it was a cursed place. Everyone in the village had dreams about the well afterwards. An unknown entity would visit them in their dreams and ask them to negotiate with it. The negotiation was a human life in exchange for water.
"People were scared. They forbade everyone to go near the well. They decided to leave the place for good. Some of them even ran away from home in fear. But the nightmares didn't stop. The entity was hungry for human life. Finally, it got what it wanted.
"A little boy of a lonely mother wandered off to the well one day. When he returned home at sunset, both of his legs were found being chained. The mother walked along the long chains only to find that it led inside the very well her people had built. The more they pulled the chains, the more it grew in length, coming out of the dried well. No blacksmith could damage the chain, not even a little scratch could be made on it.
"The villagers started to see a different version of their same old nightmare. The entity now asked them the life of that little boy only. Then, started the gossip.
"The boy was an illegitimate child. His mother was not a very welcomed person in the community. They lived almost a separated life. Maybe the entity chose wisely. Maybe they should abide by its rule. Maybe the boy could be sacrificed for the sake of all.
"But the mother was a mad woman. She wouldn’t give up on her only gem. She would rather her son lived with the chains around his legs forever. The child cried. He cried all day and night. He said that his legs itched. And as he scratched them again and again, the skin had peeled off and left him wounded.
"'Mama, it hurts.' The boy pleaded with his mother to get rid of his shackles. But nothing could be done for his aid. The villagers, at one point, stopped even trying. The herbal remedy his mother gave him was useless.
"'Let me go, then.' The boy pleaded again. His mother denied.
"Finally, the boy decided for himself. When his mother would be asleep, he would go to the well again. He would ask the well what it wanted from him. And so he did. Nobody heard of the little boy anymore. Someone said that the boy had jumped off to the well himself. But nobody knew because there wasn't a body to be found.
"Since that day, there hasn't been any scarcity of water from the well. The well never dried off after. A beautiful garden grew around the land. No-one had any more nightmares. The gypsies finally overcame another adversary that was the most challenging in their community life. They lived happily ever after."
Grandma finished her story and looked at me with a smile.
"But Grandma," I spoke, "this isn't the type of story that ends with 'happily ever after'."
"Why not?" grandma asked, "the villagers, in fact, did live happily."
"What about the boy? And his mother?"
"Now," grandma stated, "they weren't the hero of my story, were they?"
"You've got a point," I said, "But don't you think that the boy could be the most tragic hero if it was said from his perspective?"
"He could be." Grandma thought for a moment, "Why don't you rewrite it in your own words then? Maybe you can do him some justice."
Before I left grandma for breakfast, I asked her one last question, "since everything is resolved, why did you say that it was a forbidden garden in the beginning?"
"Because, darling!" She looked at me as if it was so obvious, "the little boy can still be seen roaming around it."
I went to the garden that day. It was obvious what grandma told me was just a legend. And a legend can be a lie. Or at least partially. Maybe there was an incident of a boy's drowning. Maybe the nightmares originated from the collective superstitious belief of the gypsies. Or maybe, just maybe, there was an entity involved.
Whatever happened a long time ago, I could never know them for sure. I could only assume the story from my perspective and my beliefs in particular superstitions. But I didn't feel like I could rest till I saw that little boy again and demanded some kind of explanation. It might sound a little crazy to the readers but my mind couldn't make out any reasonable explanation of the boy's peculiar behavior at the moment.
I waited from morning till noon. But he didn't come. I didn’t know that some terrible news awaited me at home other than the fear that grandfather might be mad at me for missing another lunch.
Grandma was no more. My sweet, lovely grandma. The grandma who had talked with me just this dawn. I was told that the servant found her dead when he went to serve her breakfast. I almost didn’t believe it. But I accepted at last as we all do eventually.
I stayed till the funeral was over. Then I immediately packed everything to leave the place. I didn’t think I could stay at the house without feeling my grandma's presence.
But before I left, I had to solve something within myself. I had to see the boy again. I went to the garden for the last time. And as expected he was already waiting for me.
"Why didn't you tell me everything beforehand?" I questioned him, "Didn't you want me to know?"
"You know because I showed you." The same old smile on his face.
"But why me, of all people?"
He walked towards me and placed his cold hands on mine. It was the only time he had really touched me. He said hopefully, "You'll let them know, won't you? They'll finally know."
"Know what?" I asked, a little confused.
"The truth!"
I didn't understand him wholly that day. After years it somehow dawned on me. The little boy wanted the world to know. Not just the legend of the well in the garden. But the little life it took that made it possible.
Author's note: The story is inspired by a folktale my grandma had long ago told me that originated from her hometown. It was about how a pond was excavated and a child's life was offered for it to contain water. There are many versions of this story. The story is really memorable to me and honestly, I still get chills whenever I think about it. I made some changes to the plot to match the given prompt. I don't know if I could do it any justice. But I'm glad I made an effort to preserve one of the less known folktales of my country.
P.S. The country is Bangladesh…

I woke up in the middle of the night by the sound coming from my living room. The culprit was no other than Jungkook, who had been singing karaoke with much pleasure as I could sense from his voice. I checked my phone and found that it was 3 o'clock.
I have a habit of not being able to go back to sleep once I'm awake in the middle of the night. And I'm pretty sure Jungkook was aware of it. Thinking of giving him a good scolding, I walked to the living room only to find the mess he had created.
At least four cans of beer lay all around the floor. He was drinking from his glass very excitedly, his hair completely disheveled. Hearing me enter the room, he looked up and flashed a bunny smile.
Of course, I couldn't bring myself to say anything mean.
"Come here!" he mumbled like a baby.
I dragged myself forward and sat down beside him. Immediately, he hugged me by my neck and placed a soft kiss on my cheek. I could smell beer from his breath.
"What are you doing this late?" I asked.
Jungkook blinked at me innocently, "Did I wake you up, sweetheart?" I pouted and nodded my head sorrowfully to let him know what he did. To which, Jungkook gasped dramatically and clapped his hands to his mouth.
He spoke with remorse, "I'm so sorry, baby. I swear I didn't mean to. I only wanted to have some drinks. And suddenly I felt like singing. I forgot that you were already asleep. What time is it?"
"It's 3 in the morning!" I informed.
"Okay, baby! I'll stop now." He tried to get up but I pulled him back into the couch.
"No. Stay. And sing!" I requested, "for me."
He smiled mischievously and said, "I wuv U." He then turned on the music to sing, while I rested my head on his shoulder and ran my hand through his sexy messy hair.
