Lúthien Tinúviel

Lúthien Tinúviel

"-for Lúthien was the most beautiful of all the Children of Ilúvatar. Blue was her raiment as the unclouded heaven, but her eyes were grey as the starlit evening; her mantle was sewn with golden flowers, but her hair was dark as the shadows of twilight."

Classic Finwë behavior to get Curufinwë right and then get Nolofinwë and Arafinwë backwards. Noble Finwë isn't the one who duels Morgoth and Wise Finwë isn't the one to heed the Doom...okay man.

War of the Rohirrim spoilers:

I understand that Hama had to die. I do. I understand that he absolutely had to die in the specific the way that he did, because Hama as a character represents the valor and honor of the people of Rohan (exemplified in his mastery of song, which is how those values are upheld in the community and passed along to the next generation), and Wulf, who rejects these values, had to kill him in a dishonorable way to represent his attempt to destroy the values of the Eorlingas and prove that valor and honor are worthless. And I understand that Hama’s instrument being passed to others represents that that valor and honor did not die with him, and could not be destroyed by Wulf. I understand this! I do! But also, have you considered: it made me sad

What Does Your Mad Uncle And A Broken Clock Have In Common

The reality of my Silmarillion fan experience is this: Yeah, sure, I feel the tragedy of the Fëanorians and like Maglor with the best of them but... but... look, there's this other elf to be found on the seashore. He's a procrastinator. He's a bloody procrastinator who had a mission from his king and yet spent years hanging around a place doing nothing because he liked the nature there. And then he got his ass kicked by the sea and lost all his companions. And somehow that did not make him bitter and when he was told by a random human on the shore that he needed to go to the secret city because Ulmo, the Vala of the sea, told him to, his reaction was "Okay, we're going."

As an adult, I guess the reality of my Silmarillion / Unfinished Tales fan experience is that Voronwë is the ADHD hero I needed in my teenage years.

“[Galadriel] was the greatest of the Noldor, except Fëanor maybe” that feel when your mum drains her entire immortal life force to make you maybe better than your random niece 😔

Fingon.

Thinking about Fingon all day long because he sang in defiance, your honor, and resolved to heal the feud that divided the Noldor, and he won great praise and then in sorrow took the lordship of the house of Fingolfin. A shadow of doubt fell upon his heart, and even still, his heart was uplifted, and he shouted aloud: ‘Utúlie’n aurë! Aiya Eldalië ar Atanatári, utúlie’n aurë! He sought not his own, neither power nor glory, and death was his reward.

What am I to do with this guy.

I'm crying????

Also currently crazy about the idea that Melian (who is at least partly affiliated to Irmo Lorien) sometimes visits her descendants in dreams. Not terribly often, it would seem — there are too many of them — but if she happens to be aware of something she might warn of, or at times, to give advice...

Newly orphaned children around Gondor and Arnor, and where their peoples mingled with others, sometimes dream of a woman with eyes like stars and a motherly manner who holds them close and whispers that everything will be alright.

LEGENDS OF THE QUENDI

LEGENDS OF THE QUENDI

Private commission, from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Pen and ink, watercolor, 24 K gold.

Gandalf/Olorin, Cirdan, Celembribor, Gil Galad, Melian, Galadriel, Elrond, Arwen, The Elven Rings, The Elessar, and a symbolic Belt of Melian.

No, I'm not playing hooky on Good Omens, I get about 20 minutes a day to work on other stuff.

I was getting a half hour a day, but even that's too much at this point.

And yes, at roughly 25 minutes a day, a piece like this takes a really long time. Months.

I'm a big believer in making sure you pick at something else even while working on a big project, even if you only use that time for warm ups. Keeps you from crumbling under the weight of the main project.

Celegorm canonically speaking animal languages is so funny because how many times he went to his brothers and told them "A little birdie told me" to embaress them with some gossip and then watch their house descend into complete chaos as his brothers try to figure out who exposed them

And it was really a little birdie, a real bird, with whom he spoke, because he understands his language

Between the curse of Mandos that loomed over every exile and Turin's own doom Beleg never stood a fucking chance. Gwindor and Turin meet for the first time and the force of their collective inability to keep a love one alive was so strong poor Beleg immediately exited the narrative

The Feanorians like to scare each other just for the hell of it but not one of them dares to try and scare Maglor. Maedhros warned them all the one (1) time he did, Maglor screamed so loud and powerfully that every piece of glass in the house within fifty feet shattered

The arrow is kind of random because I didn't want to give swords to both of them. Don't judge me!

And Maedhros answered: 'But how shall our voices reach to Ilúvatar beyond the Circles of the World? And by Ilúvatar we swore in our madness, and called the Everlasting Darkness upon us, if we kept not our word. Who shall release us?'

'If none can release us,' said Maglor, 'then indeed the Everlasting Darkness shall be our lot, whether we keep our oath or break it; but less evil shall we do in the breaking.’

a list of some of my favourite, most ExtraTM Fëanor moments :

showed up to his dad’s house in full military gear just so he could throw a hissy fit at his brother in a public square , sword-waving theatrics and all

straight up slammed a door in Morgoth’s face , after quite literally yelling at him to get the fuck off his lawn

“Fëanor, lending us your Silmarils to save the Trees could prevent the world from plunging into complete darkness” / “And then what , do you waNT ME TO DIE is that it”

“So dad , are we going back for Fingon now?” / *manic laughter* “Oh, Maedhros, my sweet summer child,”

pulled a total Patroclus and charged on the gates of Angband without waiting for backup , then promptly got into a swordfight with a bunch of Balrogs

couldn’t help being dramatic even in death and turned into ashes on the spot before his sons could bury him

if you ever feel like your job is hard , just remember that Mandos is gonna have to put up with this dude camping out in his office until the end of Arda

Family Happiness

Evening had fallen upon Tyrion, but Finwë's chambers were alive with light. The king listened with delight to young Macalaurë's new work, a quiet but surprisingly profound motif that spoke of longing for distant lands and the majesty of Aman. Finwë, now free to consider himself a musical expert, was immensely proud that his grandson could express his feelings so skilfully through melody.

Next to him sat Maitimo, the eldest of the grandchildren. He studied the map intently, tracing the winding lines of the roads with his finger. Plans and dreams of wanderlust stirred his thoughts, and Finwë smiled warmly at the eagerness in the eyes of a grandson who knew the world only through stories.

Finwë felt at the pinnacle of happiness. His son, Feanaro, had found someone who shared his passion and thoughts, and now, sitting on the terrace with Nerdanel, they quietly discussed plans for a new journey through Aman, where every corner held ancient wisdom and every stone held its secrets. They planned to visit places hidden even from prying eyes, ancient rock formations to which they were both drawn as craftsmen and creators.

But the king suspected there was more to these plans. Feanaro's eyes shone with the same brilliance as they had years ago when he first met Nerdanel. Though they discussed routes, Finwë noticed how their voices sometimes fell silent, and the same spark that ignited when someone dear to him was near.

As if chuckling to himself, Finwë wondered if he might soon have a new grandson.
