TLOU Advent fic #16 for @elpickett
Ellie paused. βIf all the seas were dried up, what would Neptune say?β
There was a confused beat. βWhat?β
βIf,β Ellie repeated, slower, βall the seas were dried up, what would Neptune say?β She looked up, a gradual, smug smile spreading across her face.
Joel sighed and rubbed his eyes. He wasnβt so quick at picking up when she was joking around, or maybe she was just too good at disguising puns in regular conversation now.
βI donβt know. What.β

Excellent - mine came out denser than expected but I'm worried my self raising flour isnt actually self raising. My partner is going to have to eat plenty of honey cake I guess
this evening's activity has been making a honey cake inspired by the latest chapter of @hypnotisedfireflies story, where Joel and Tess try wedding cake flavours. I read it this morning, finished my classes, and dragged my partner to the shops on the way home for ingredients.
cake notes: somehow needs more honey, despite having almost 400g of honey in the cake you see above. this may be because I didn't use the really nice honey, but that is like Β£10 a jar and I don't have the budget to recipe test with that. recipe testing is also potentially a generous statement here given I just winged it. and then had to go to the shops again because I forgot icing sugar the first time. oops.
some of my faves recently!
for science, I second bobbybroccoli! Loads of very cool science videos
for (pre-)history: Dan Davis History (amazing, fairly European focused as that's his specialty), Stefan Milo (more science-y side of archaeology, pretty gloabl), and Milo Rossi, for American (including lots of indigenous) history and pseudoscience
for religion/history, esoterica is great. I don't have the background to even begin to understand some of the videos, but those I can get into are incredible, it's a channel devoted to non-dogmatic early abrahamic religious history (think origins of the abrahamic god, the two part (so far) series on Yahweh is awesome). Presents detailed academic research in an approachable way, and I really like the religious history without the trappings of religious dogma as part of it.
some other faves;
for tv analysis, Harbo Wholmes is amazing for doctor who analysis (and is doing an episode by episode analysis for the current season)
for philosophy, philosophytube is great and generally well explained
hi do you have long video essay recommendations
sure, ill give you some channels
but: they wont be anyone you havent heard of before, only some of them make truly long content, many will cover different topics, and i cannot necessarily attest to the true quality of all of the content or the creators- i tend to put on long videos to work to, and dont pay particularly close attention to them. these are really just people that pop up in my recommended often
im not ever on an active hunt for niche creators on youtube. maybe i should be
green means i like this persons work particularity. like i actually pay attention when its on

i also recommend old episodes of Unsolved Mysteries or even some of the stuff History Channel uploads (old eps of Ancient Aliens and whatnot) if youre just looking for some background noise. fair warning for those, though, in that theyre both old and sensational by nature. im sure you know that, but i wouldnt sleep right if i didnt offer the disclaimer
ill add more channels if i can find or think of any
i found a post once with some good specific videos linked on it, ill see if i cant find it again for you
okay I just saw guys and dolls last night, but like this is perfect!!!
Tess as Adelaide (has been waiting 14 years to get married, which mirrors her and Joel's long relationship with no actual communication of what they are)
Joel as Nathan (loves Tess, but also loves his job which just happens to be highly illegal)
Tommy as Sky (ex highly illegal job, learns to do better after he meets Maria, would think flying from New York to Havana for dinner with a woman he'd met earlier that day was a good idea)
And Maria as Sarah (actually put together, learns to chill out when she meets Tommy)
ugh it'd be perfect thank you for putting this is my head!!!!
broadway theatre x tlou au where all the cast is part of les mis or something
I saw this, went 'cool photo' only to realise it was in fact a painting. This is actually insane

So uhh I have one friend I regularly call babes, he recently decided we were married (nice!) and a large portion of our relationship is over the top flirting. Despite this, our relationship is platonic. Yes, it's weird. But it works for us.
it snowed here last weekend (we made two snowmen and a snow dalek) and leia discovered snow for the first time! the front door was open so she wandered out to see what was going on, immediately got cold, and then saw that everything was white, panicked, and ran back inside. in conclusion, leia is not a fan.
Cats and snow donβt mix
I came out as queer at 13 because even then I knew that bi wasn't quite right - it took five years before I clocked that I was arospec as well. And you know what? Queer worked perfectly well throughout that time!
[ID: A modified Marie Kondo meme. The first panel shows βthe vagueness of queer as an umbrella termβ, and she remarks βThis one sparks joy.β End ID]
