EARTH, A PLANET? WHEN!?
When the Earth was first proven as a planet cannot be set to one date. The Greeks in the 6th century BC had discussed how the Earth was a sphere, but how large? Eratosthenes in about 240 BC discovered that it was 250,000 stadia, or about 40,000 km (25,000 miles) by measuring shadows at noon in Syene and Alexandria. From the angle and distances, he used trigonometry to determine the size. It was speculated until the 7th century AD, when the flat earth theory finally disappeared. However, it took until Columbus in 1492 proved with hard evidence that the earth was round, and finally the way to India (the Philapines), by Magellan about 1521. Surprisingly, he knew that.

”In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue”, or so you may have remembered. Well, he quit the Santa Maria when reaching the New World, after it sank about 12 miles off of Haiti. This was announced in a New York boat club recently, a few days ago. The Santa Maria discovery may have been named too soon, though armaments, wooden ship items of the era and planking was found where it had been recorded by Christopher Columbus, then. It is believed to be so. Found from a written record, this was released. . Who knows what remnants of that time will be recovered? Visions of pirate bones, treasure and doubloons swim in our collective heads. This important discovery has the government involved.

TV today is Full of Threats
Watch many afternoon shows on the television and you will find there is no escaping the threat of dying from criminals or some person, possibly by accident. There seems to be no escaping it. Apparently the TV programers want the afternoons kept adult, because the kids are in school or napping. While I can safely say I am an adult, I most certainly would like to see less violence there.
