19. “Why did you wait until I moved on?” 35. “I loved you. I loved you so so much but you hurt me."

"No. No, no no, this isn't allowed. I'm getting married tomorrow, Tsukki, I- I can't,"

"I'm not asking you to make any stupid decisions, Tadashi. I'm just- I'm just telling you," Kei says. He swallows, licking dry lips, and Tadashi looks at him with a mix of- of disgust, of horror. "I just needed to get it off my chest. I'm happy for you and Yachi, I really am."

It's a lie, and they both know it.

"Tsukishima Kei, you don't just confess to someone the day before they're supposed to get married and expect things to go on as planned. Are you fucking stupid?"

"I-"

"God. You're so- so infuriating. You always have to get the last word in, don't you?"

"Yamaguchi, I-"

"All these years and you still won't say my first name? You just confessed your love for me, and you won't call me Tadashi?"

Tadashi's words are sharp. Deservedly so. Even still- he feels sick to his stomach trying to process them all. This is going...worse than Kei anticipated. He'd expected denial, some annoyance and doubt, not- not anger.

"Why did you wait until I moved on? Why did you have to wait until it's literally too late? I don't- I used to love you, Kei, but I don't now. I can't." Tadashi chokes out, and oh no he's starting to cry. He's always been an ugly crier. Kei hates that he still thinks he's attractive even when he's crying.

Kei swallows again. Why did his throat feel so thick? It's getting hard to suck in any breath. "Why'd you stop? I- I was almost there, almost ready, when you started dating Yachi."

"Because I was tired of waiting, Kei! Are you-" Tadashi makes a strangled noise in the back of his throat, running his hands over his face and into his hair, mussing it up more. He'd started going for the purposefully-messy look after highschool, when he'd realized that if he can't fix his horrible cowlicks he could at least learn to work around them. "Kei, I loved you. I loved you so, so much but you hurt me. That night, Shouyou's first match with the Jackals, when we- we went and got drunk, and you were hanging all over me and then the next day you acted like it never happened...I- You told me how much you wanted to kiss me, and I told you to ask again when you were sober. You never did. And maybe it's my fault for believing you'd remember, but it fucking hurt. So I decided, fuck it, I'm not going to let myself get worked up over it and I fucking got over you. And now you're here. Confessing to me. The day before my fucking wedding."

"I'm sorry, Tadashi."

Upon hearing the crack in Kei's voice, seeing the tears in his eyes, Tadashi deflates and melts into his seat, scrubbing at his eyes. "Sorry doesn't give us back time, Kei."

"I know. I- I wish it did, though. Does that make me selfish?"

Tadashi snorts. "Obviously. But I'm not much better. I wish we had that time back too."

Yamaguchi takes care of cold-ridden tsukki 🤧💓

Part 2 of this fantasy AU Tsukkiyama !! Grown up Tadashi is a lot less wobbly- he’s taller than Tsukki with his antlers >:0 and a scout for his village !! Plot-wise, they get separated as kids when the fauns move deeper into the forest, and don’t find each other again until Kei is reluctantly Questing with Kagehina and stumbles into faun territory by mistake :O

I LOVE playing with seasonal animal traits! Tadashi’s design is based on Sika Deer, who shed their antlers and have spotty coats!!
