hi! i just finished reading tts for the fifth time and i've just always wondered how you thought harry and louis meeting each other's families would go? family is obviously important to both of them throughout the fic so I just was wondering how it was for them to introduce that part of their lives to one another. Thank you and I absolutely adore you and your writing!

ok, i know you sent this a while ago and i’m sorry for not replying sooner. i have been thinking about this though and i have opinions. 

the way i imagine this whole thing going is that harry would be relatively chill about it all (normal meeting the fam stress but mostly excitement), while louis would be a nervous wreck about the whole thing and blow it wayyyyy out of proportion. like.... freaking the fuck out thinking it’s a bad idea, etc etc re: introducing HIS family to harry. i know, i know, it’s a bit of a role reversal re: their dynamic in the fic since louis is such a steady and strong figure in the story while harry is a little bit adrift (is louis a lighthouse amidst the troubled seas harry is drowning in????? yes. yes he is.) BUT it absolutely makes sense to me that it would be like this. here’s why. 

first of all, i think louis meets harry’s family first. a. because harry is so excited about it and really wants to make it happen relatively quickly and b. because THEY’RE so excited about it. they’ve heard so much about louis and they know how much he helped harry when he was struggling. they know louis helped him in ways they couldn’t because the pressure was somehow on. and they’re thankful and excited and eager to discover the person behind the stories. they’re very aware that this is a big deal and a big serious relationship for harry. because they’re so thankful and they kind of love him already through harry’s eyes and stories and smiles and improvements in general, it’s maybe a little less pressure ? and more of a welcoming into the family straight away kind of thing. i like to imagine maybe harry asks louis if his family could come and stay at the b&b and meet both louis and fair isle at the same time. so they do a little weekend with his parents and his sister so harry’s two worlds can collide. and it goes very well and it’s a pretty special bonding experience for all of them. louis and gemma become best friends pretty much instantly and cliff pretty much falls in love with anne. overall, a big big success. 

harry meeting louis’ family however... i can imagine that taking a little bit longer. the way i see it, i think louis being so protective of harry and his privacy, and not wanting for him to feel exposed or pressured, would want to delay the meeting a little. there’s a lot of youngsters in his family, teenage girls he now realises absolutely know who harry is and no matter how much he loves them and trusts them, it makes louis nervous. mostly, it makes louis nervous to think it could make harry nervous and he doesn’t want to put him in this position where he maybe doesn’t feel safe. harry, bless his heart, is blissfully unaware that that’s what concerns louis and kind of thinks maybe this is about some of louis’ homophobic more distant relatives that are mentioned in the fic. and he doesn’t want to pressure louis into putting himself in maybe a vulnerable position like that. meanwhile, louis just thinks that harry would be scared of being Exposed by the fans even though he KNOWS his sisters wouldn't do that, esp. if he asked them not to. but ofc, louis’ family don’t really know about harry at all, since he kept that pretty secret so while they know there’s a new relationship, they don’t really know the finer details. so it’s all a bit awkward and unsaid and there’s a lot of misunderstandings surrounding it. at some point, louis grows a pair and admits what he’s actually scared of and harry laughs. not his finest moment, but it’s a fond one, and he kind of admits it never even occurred to him to be worried since all the stories louis told about his mother and his siblings are wonderful. he trusts louis ergo he trusts them too. so they finally decide to pop for a visit. 

i can’t decide if i want louis to like... prep his family in a way that is completely ridiculous and over the top, with like a list of rules and questions they’re not allowed to ask and etc. and when harry gets there and everyone is kind of silent and awkward he’s like ????? until one of the oldest siblings admits there’s very little they can talk about under louis’ code of conduct and harry goes ‘oh fuck that’ which 100% endears him to everyone. louis’ mum goes ‘oh thank god, i thought you were ridiculously high maintenance and out of touch, but it was just louis being protective and stupid’. to which louis replies ‘i’m you’re child, you can’t call me stupid’ and she gives him such a scathing and judgemental look that he huffs and leaves the living room to go grab a drink. he pretends to be offended but by the time he’s in the kitchen by himself, he’s beaming. he doesn’t know what he was so worried about. 

OR..... there’s a part of me that’s like.... he wouldn’t tell them a single thing except ‘i’m bringing my boyfriend for the weekend’ and just show up with harry styles in tow, giving his sisters a fucking heart attack. one of them is literally listening to a harry styles song in her room when they show up. the music is way too loud and can be heard throughout the house. the words ‘i want to die’ are uttered out loud by louis and they haven’t even crossed the threshold yet. throughout dinner, louis glares at anyone who starts asking harry a question until harry goes ‘your face is gonna get stuck like that, what were you asking me about the brits?’ and the tension finally drops a little. one of the twins does drag harry up to her bedroom so he can sign her poster and louis has a mini existential crisis because there’s his shirtless boyfriend on her wall and he can’t believe he didn’t know. he feels mortified for 1.5 sec before he starts making fun of harry for the ridiculous photoshoot. 

yeah... i can’t decide but both is good. and both end well despite major drama (mostly made up by louis and his dumb brain).

“Polished” Glamour Spell

Purpose:

To be a glamour spell that provides the caster with a polished, attractive, and glowing appearance and to help them appear to be more charismatic, confident, and powerful.

Items:

Your nails(preferably clean and cut)

Nail polish

[Optional] A cinnamon stick

Process:

Firstly, paint the nails of one of your hands(once the polish is on, you can incorporate the optional cinnamon stick by smoldering it over your nails before and\or during the chant). While your nails are drying, say:

May this increase my glamour And make all who perceive me instantly enamored. Whilst this dries, Let it solidify The attractiveness, charisma, and confidence inside of me. Repeat the above for your other hand. Then close your eyes and imagine a glow coming from your nails, and picture it highlighting all of the best features about you, as well as bringing out all of the characteristics mentioned before in the “purpose” section. Ok, I know you probably have this asked of you a lot but one thing that always stays on my mind after each re read of TTS is how H introduces L to his public life. I’ve sat there wondering so many times (especially after reading your extra writings) how, when, where it would play out and whilst imagining scenarios is entertaining I’ve always wanted to know how you picture them first appearing before the world?

oooohhh. that’s a really interesting question. and not one i think i’ve answered before? nor something i’ve thought about particularly.... when i think about them it’s always either before or after their relationship is announced to the world. that transition is not something i’ve clearly envisioned, either as i was writing, or even after when thinking about their shared future. but i can give it a go now! 

as always, these are just my today ramblings and aren’t meant to be official canon thoughts and if i write something here that contradicts something i’ve talked about before in relation to their future then oops. i don’t have all the asks i’ve ever answered about tts memorised hehe. so yeah, very much just a little thinking out loud type of exercise....

so my initial instinct is to think that it would take a while for harry to open up to the world about louis and their relationship. a lot of harry’s inner conflict in tts is this desire to be open about who he is and to have the things that he shares with his fans/the world be authentic but at the same time, he’s also struggling with this undeniable desire for privacy and to no longer be in this aquarium environment, glass walls everywhere, eyes everywhere, etc... so i think it would take him a little while to find the balance between those conflicting ideas within himself. and to decide how he wants to approach a public relationship that is real for the first time. 

i def. think that he would come out, without mentioning his relationship or introducing louis to the world, first. just as a step for himself. i actually think he probably does it right after the fic ends, somewhere in his new album promo cycle. i envision it as maybe he does like... one in-depth interview to promote the album and a few performances and that’s it, yk? something really lowkey. since he’s asked to be able to do this on a smaller scale for his mental health. and yeah, i think he would be as candid as possible in that one interview, talking both about his sexuality and his struggles with substance abuse, but since the relationship with louis is still very fresh, i don’t think he would touch on that yet. 

i do think he would talk about going somewhere isolated (without saying where) and meeting a really important friend whose support was crucial to him figuring out he still wants to be in the industry. so he would mention louis in a roundabout way but without saying anything re: the true nature of their relationship. of course, a lot of the album is filled with love songs so i think that would potentially invite some speculation and assumptions.

somewhere between the whirlwind of his new album and his new tour, they’d meet each other’s family and the relationship would get more and more serious. and harry would officially ‘move in’ the lighthouse when it’s the offseason and he’s not working. 

there’s a part of me that’s like... maybe they don’t tell anybody until like.... years later and they’re married and everything. like... not necessarily a ‘secret relationship’ but a super lowkey one. like.. harry doesn’t post about louis on social media or talk about him in interviews or anything like that. maybe it’s just known and understood that he’s in a committed relationship with someone not in the industry and that’s that. but that’s a bit boring. actually, the best way this would work is if it’s revealed super dramatically at an award show. like maybe louis sits with harry & his team at the grammys and no one knows who he is until harry wins and kisses him in front of everybody before thanking his husband in his speech and everyone is like /????????? SINCE WHEN ???????? and then there is an EXPLOSION of interest re: the b&b and their social media accounts, which louis runs half reluctantly with inputs from h & his sisters. unfortunately for him there ARE pictures of him on the website and IG so everyone pieces it together like little sherlock holmes and they all realise that’s the place harry went to find himself again and he found love there too. 

they’re booked for a solid year after that which louis HATES because he knows it’s just people wanting to meet harry and he doesn’t want his privacy and safety compromised. harry lowkey thinks it’s kind of hilarious because while YES he values his privacy more than anything, he does thrive on chaos. part of me thinks he’d schedule a mini-tour for their busiest season JUST to be a nuisance, but he’d never leave louis to deal with the extra work and the fallout alone. 

if we don’t go the dramatic route, then i’d think it would be super super lowkey. once he’s ready, h starts mentioning his partner in interviews and maybe sometimes louis shows up on harry’s ig and vice versa without it ever being a really big deal or an announcement or anything yk? just them living their lives and sharing what they’re comfortable with when they’re comfortable. 

i don’t know if that’s what you wanted/pictured, but that’s where i’m at today re: tts!hl and their public relationship <3
