Chuuya Using Dazai As A Human Shield Will Always Be Funny

Saiki K has this interesting sort of chill atmosphere and monotony about it. It's called "the disastrous life of Saiki K" but the disasters are often like... him not having enough pocket money for something, or having to get through a sports festival. Occasionally the disasters are him having to save the world or his brother being an actual freak, but the show treats these times almost with the same stakes and importance as everything else.

I find this really interesting because what just feels like a "vibe" at first becomes an actual plot-point later on, with Saiki rewinding the Earth every year and repeating the same stage in his life over, and over, and over again... nothing has any real consequences, it's as dull as it is funny, and while it is a comedy I feel like there is this quiet sense of horror underneath it all. The intro with the flower petals falling and then being rewound kind of illustrates this for me - Saiki constantly controls everything around him in an attempt to hold it in some kind of stagnant peace, slowly growing accustomed to the people around them but none of them truly moving forward, like everyone is being held in a dream.

I don't really know where I'm going with this, it's really hard to put into words, but does anyone get what I'm talking about? Is this coherent in any way?

OKAY EDIT because multiple people have mentioned it: IM SORRY book snufkin was only depicted with a harmonica. he has an accordion in some of tove’s standalone illustrations and i chose to draw like a very specific snufkin ive seen in a few drawings from her. the accordion was only for a fun comparison and also because accordions are awesome buut that wasnt a very good representation of general book snufkin my apologies

I have some opinions on this official art

I saw it brought up quite a lot when Dazai “died” last year but now that kunikida is “dead” (no I won’t admit he is dead without more proof, I learned my lesson) it’s being brought up a lot more. I feel like it doesn’t quite fit that this is the forshadowing for either Dazai or kunikida a “death” bc both of them were at the hands of Fyodor. And based on my perception of the story, the port mafia is not really teaming up with Fyodor. I mean they were against them during the Canibalism arc and I don’t think Mori took very kindly to being almost murdered.

So, due to Saiki's manipulation, humans are stronger and more resilient than they otherwise would be. Saiki says that in his world, small people can defeat much larger opponents in physical combat, so it's not like this rule only applies to already strong characters. Kurumi is small and thin and can still effortlessly throw a table. Despite everyone's strength being multiplied, Kaidou is still incredibly weak. He can hardly throw a ball two feet and his punches feel like tickles. Would Kaidou have been even weaker if it weren't for Saiki's manipulation? His lack of stength is already significant by real world standards. Was Kaidou supposed to have chronic asthenia and/or a condition that causes weakness?
