There’s A Charming Treehouse Colony In Germany, Calling Your Name

This is Robin’s Nest Hotel in Hessen, Germany. It’s far from civilization: You’ll have to travelsnaking roads up a mountain until you reach the forested alcove of incredible treehouse structures. Owner Peter Becker built them as a hotel after realizing he was “missing something” in the busy city, as he told online magazine iGNANT.

Meet The 13-year-old Who Just Built A Cheap Braille Printer Out Of Legos

Meet the 13-year-old who just built a cheap Braille printer out of Legos

Whatever you were doing in eighth grade, it probably wasn’t as awesome as what Shubham Banerjee has been up to.

The California 13-year-old wanted to know how blind people read, so he searched online and was shocked to find Braille printers cost up to $2,000.

“I know that there is a simpler way to do this.”

UK top government official: human rights no longer a "top priority"

UK Top Government Official: Human Rights No Longer A "top Priority"

Sir Simon McDonald, Permanent Secretary at the Foreign Office – the country’s most senior Foreign Office official – told MPs that his department had sidelined human rights work in favour of global trade agreements (the same agreements that allow sovereign wealth funds from the world’s most brutal, oppressive states to buy huge swathes of the UK’s public institutions at knock-down prices in the Tories’ great sell-off of public assets).

It’s called the “prosperity agenda” – promoting business at the expense of human rights. For example, Chancellor George Osborne just conducted a trade-mission to China where he didn’t raise human rights issues at all, because “we have different political systems.”

It used to be that globalists argued for liberalised trade with criminal states because it would somehow lift their populations out of forced labour, mass incarceration and totalising surveillance. Now that these values have been exported to the “free” world, the pretense of a human rights agenda for global trade has been abandoned. Now we’re told thatthe spice must flow because it will make the country rich (just don’t look too hard at who in the country is getting rich).

Project Monsoon  Clever colorful street art that only appears when it rains

After the Superhydrophobic Street Art, which uses a superhydrophobic coating to create designs which appear only in the rain, here is the Project Monsoon, which uses the same concept, this time with hydrochromic painting, which reveals its color only when wet. This amazing and clever project was designed by a Korean team of designers, in collaboration with Pantone, to provide color to the streets of Seoul during the rainy season, while paying tribute to the Korean culture. A brilliant idea! Source: ufunk

Paint Job Transforms Walls Into Sensors, Interactive Surfaces

Paint job transforms walls into sensors, interactive surfaces

Smart walls react to human touch, sense activity in room

Walls are what they are – big, dull dividers. With a few applications of conductive paint and some electronics, however, walls can become smart infrastructure that sense human touch, and detect things like gestures and when appliances are used.

Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University and Disney Research found that they could transform dumb walls into smart walls at relatively low cost – about $20 per square meter – using simple tools and techniques, such as a paint roller.

These new capabilities might enable users to place or move light switches or other controls anywhere on a wall that’s most convenient, or to control videogames by using gestures. By monitoring activity in the room, this system could adjust light levels when a TV is turned on or alert a user in another location when a laundry machine or electric kettle turns off.

“Walls are usually the largest surface area in a room, yet we don’t make much use of them other than to separate spaces, and perhaps hold up pictures and shelves,” said Chris Harrison, assistant professor in CMU’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII). “As the internet of things and ubiquitous computing become reality, it is tempting to think that walls can become active parts of our living and work environments.”
