You came to miss Wriothesley these past two weeksâso terribly much that you decided to switch up his morning routine just a teensy bit to keep him from leaving your cozy little apartment so soon and make his return back to the Fortress before the sunrise.
Heâs been working double-time recently, something about Fatui spies on his territory so you were patient and understanding while he handled the urgent matter to get it under control. But you quickly came down with an extreme case of the loverâs yearning syndrome because you havenât spent any proper time with him. And no, the few fleeting moments youâd both share where he carefully scoops you up in his arms when he comes back to you in the middle of the night, and him pressing a tender kiss to your forehead murmuring good morning to you before he disappears again hardly counts.
And comes the promised sunlight streaming through the windows laying a warm caress on your cheek, and you peek behind your comforter at the sound of Wriothesley moving around in your home. Heâs already handsomely dressed, except for the large missing coat which heâs searching for now. And he doubts it ran away on its own from where he last tossed it onto the chair. His suspicions are further confirmed when he catches a glimpse of you playing pretend in his peripherals.
Thereâs a knowing smirk on his face as his weight dips on the edge of the bed, and he watches you shift in your sleep in a cute mess of limbs with the blanket following your movements. âSweetheart, do you have any ideas where my coat has gone?â He reaches out to push away the stray strands of hair from your eyes, and heâs a little amused at how youâre playing coy when you give him the same sleepy hum like you usually do.
Oh, arenât you so adorableâhis little troublemaker of a sweetheart. Stealing the Dukeâs coat and stowing it away somewhere safe because you just want him all to yourself, donât you? Even if just for a few more minutes youâre more than happy to cherish every precious second in this circumstance, until you decide you want more of course. And now heâs running late, whatâs he gonna do with you?
âYou know, Iâve got a pretty good idea who the culprit is.â Even as he teases, thereâs a gentle fondness in his gaze at your endearing display. Though that seemed to rouse you out of your peaceful slumbering state, and your eyes slowly flutter open offering him another hum with a tilt of your head.
âWhatâs this talk about culprit so early in the morning~?â He chuckles softly, but he can reserve a moment to appreciate the soft glow of the morning light casting over you. He missed seeing you like this along with your beautiful smile that matches the warmth of the sun, even if thereâs a bit of mischief along the curve of it.
âThe culprit as in, I have my reasons to believe youâre the mastermind behind my coatâs disappearance.â
âWhat makes you think I had something to do with it? Didnât we learn anything from the collection of law books Clorinde gave you where you need to provide evidence if youâre accusing someone?â Youâre toying with the fabric of his tie and your avoidant gaze only adds to your guilty-looking form. He sighs in amusement, you are making this way too easy for him to see right through youâand he actually likes the fact that youâre one terrible liar.
âCall it a hunch,â he replies with a small tug of his lips. âBesides, thereâs only you and I here so the evidence points to you. Now, will you tell me where it is, darling?â
âOh, alright~â Since he asked so nicely. You pull yourself upright, crossing your arms over your chest with your teeth gently biting down on your index finger with furrowed brows as you try and recall where you had last seen it. âHm, seems we have a little problem. I just canât remember where I placed it. Maybe a kiss would help jog my memory?â Thereâs a teasing glint in your gaze as you look back at him with innocent doe-like eyes, but thereâs no denying the smirk on your pretty lips.
Wriothesleyâs laugh is full and affectionate, unable to help himself at your words. So thatâs what youâve been scheming, wasnât it? Cute. He didn't account for the fact you'd admit to your crimes so quickly. There's never a dull moment with the love of his life, and he wouldnât have it any other way.
âTime is ticking~ And Your Grace has places to be, doesnât he?â He feels the clement pull of his tie and you eagerly close in on the distance between you and him as your warm breath fans over his skin.
âA kiss, you say? You drive a hard bargain.â He murmurs teasingly and his hand settles on your hip, giving you a light and playful squeeze. âAnd where shall I give you the kiss then? Here, perhaps..?â He presses a quick chastise kiss to your forehead. âOr here?â He says now while kissing your nose, and you giggle when he peppers two more on either side of your cheeks.
âOr even hereâŚ?â He draws back slightly, the pad of his thumb running over the supple flesh of your bottom lip. With the brush of his knuckles against your skin, his hand moves to the back of your neck as he leans in once more and gently coaxes your lips with his own in a blissful exchange. At the pleasant feeling of you smiling against the kiss, his arm encircles your waist and he easily hoists you onto his lap and steals your breath away with a growing fervor when heâs reminded of how you taste.
Itâs familiar and sweet and intimate. He exhales breathlessly with flushed cheeks when you both have to part to fill your lungs back with air and you notice the soft upward quirk of a smile at the corner of his lips as he rests his forehead against yours. He could never blame you for wanting a little bit more love when he has been missing you just as much, even if you think heâs better at hiding it.
And believe him when he says that heâd much rather have you right here where you are sweetly wrapped up in his arms to hold and kiss all day long if he didnât have pressing matters that require his attention. But fortunately for you, the Fatui case was nearing its end and youâll have him all to yourself to do with as you please and he intends to spoil you endlessly for being so incredibly patient with him.
âYou are quite the handful. Just couldnât resist, now could you?â He leans in for another lingering kiss. âI appreciate the thought of you wanting to keep me here with you a bit longer, but you know you couldâve asked⌠Or did you just want to make trouble?â He raises an eyebrow at you, and takes your sheepish laugh as your guilty admission and affectionately nips at your jawline.
âIâm just doing what I do bestâwhich is keeping you on your toes." You say with a playful quip, a bit mesmerized when you stare into those stunning blue eyes of his. âOh, right⌠before I forget, your coat should be outside hanging from the balcony.â
Toshinori Yagi wanted to be a hero, wanted to help people ever since he was a boy
and with Nanaâs help, the quirkless kid got his wish.
But being a hero isnât for the weak of heart. Youâre going to fail. People are going to be hurt. And ultimately, youâll be alone. Toshinori had to learn this quickly in his life as Nana, his mother figure, died for him at an early age.
The other person in his life, Gran Torino, trained him to the best of his abilities, but was a no nonsense, brutal teacher.
His methods were effective, but scarring, as Toshinori has been terrified of him ever sense.Â
He was sent to America on his own to develop his quirk, where he eventually learned to become a hero. But again, that meant work was his life, and he had no social life. Sure he was popular with the media, but as far as developing a lot of personal relationships, he wouldnât have time for them. Plus, as typical of a hero, in order to keep everyone safe, All Might couldnât be seen with people he was close to. He most likely kept himself busy the majority of the time to keep from being lost in his own thoughts. People need companions, itâs part of our make up. Toshinoriâs surely had to have been a very lonely life.Â
And then All for One happened. And defeating him almost killed Toshinori, in fact, thereâs no good reason heâs still alive, other than to pass on One For All, he should be dead. *Warning graphic details following*
All for One said himself (English Translation), âA wounded hero is a most frightening animal. Do you know that even now, I sometimes dream of you charging at me with your entrails strewn across the ground.â His entrails. His internal organs. All Might was gravely wounded, yet he still forced himself to fight All For One, even while the hole in his side freely leaked his own bodyâs contents. In the picture above, All Might kneels above All For Oneâs lifeless body in a pool of blood, a mixture of both their blood. AFOâs head crushed.
I cannot stress enough the mental impact of this singular event. All Might stood for absolutely NO killing. He would resolve conflict while being careful NOT to kill or even critically hurt anyone. But in this instance, Toshinori killed a man. And the way he did, crushing a manâs head with his bare hands until the skull gave way and his brains were scattered on the pavement below. For someone who believes in no killing, this was a brutal execution. One that, unfortunately, had to happen for the safety of the world, and only All Might was capable of doing it.Â
This alone must have severely messed with his head. While he lay in hospital, only capable of healing, AFO haunted his dreams and thoughts. He took another life, blood permanently staining his hands. And now he has to mentally pretend this never happened and act as if everything is fine to the public who hadnât heard of this fight.
Despite the mental trauma from this, the physical trauma was worse. While he could fake the emotional lasting effects, he couldnât hide the physical.Â
This injury took a lot more of him than just his mental stability. It took his stomach, a lung, most likely his spleen, and perhaps more internal organs. Living like this now means lots of medications. Supplements to make up for the lack of stomach, drugs to protect against infection, and pain medication to list a few. Something that big has to hurt like crazy. And all that scar tissue pulling while you try to fight? Torture. Heâs most likely had countless corrective surgeries from the scar tissue alone, which only reopens the wound and leaves less and less skin to work with. You can see how caved in the scar is, indicating just how much of his body is missing. His destroyed respiratory system forces blood to fill the remaining lung he has left when he overexerts himself, which is all the time. He probably has to have blood tranfusions regularly to make up for the loss, as well as other injections to assist his body in running properly. Thereâs probably an oxygen tank by his bedside to help when heâs choking on his own blood in the middle of the night. His body wasting away until his very skin stretches like plastic wrap over nothing but bones. Muscles being eaten away in replacement of food.
But what sucks the most? The time he can be All Might is decreasing more every day. The one thing heâs wanted his whole life, to help people, is starting to become difficult to do. He has to hide his true form from the public, he doesnât want them to fear for their lives if he canât help anymore. Now he spends more and more time in his own mind because he canât distract himself anymore. And whatâs worse than the mental pain is the physical accompanying it.
Now BESIDES all this happening, we also have Nighteyeâs betrayal. Sir, the man who was his sidekick for years, the guy heâs probably been able to grow the closest to, betrays All Mightâs trust and looks into his future. And what does he see?
In six to seven years, Toshinori will meet a villain, and meet a gruesome demise. The betrayal makes him and Nighteye go separate ways, losing a friend.
Now with his declining health and the death sentence hanging over his head, Toshinori has to think about what he hoped he wouldnât for years yet. He needs a successor. Someone to give this power to before itâs too late.Â
Insert Izuku.
A young, quirkless boy who just wants to help people. Sounds familiar. Izuku is an obvious choice despite everyone telling Toshinori heâs not the right fit. (Like Nighteye whom Toshinori tried to tell, but was only shot down.) So once he hands over One for All to Izuku, the problem, despite the boy destroying himself as he tries to use it and Toshinori being unsure how to help him, is that his power is decreasing even faster now. Which, of course, is to be expected, but that doesnât mean itâs easy to deal with. His time limit is drawn shorter and shorter until All for One starts to make a reappearance.
So not only did Toshinori not kill him, all the trauma he went through was for nothing, but now the world is in danger, again. And he doesnât know if he can help them. Which means he has to involve his young ward in this mess that killed his mentor, almost killed him, and could potentially kill the boy as well.
So he tells Izuku of the origin of One for All and All for One. But he doesnât tell the boy that by the time Izuku fights this guy, Toshinori wonât be around anymore.Â
He doesnât let on how much the power is draining out of his body, and doesnât enlighten the boy on his own upcoming death. Which unfortunately means he has to lie and give Izuku a false sense of security.Â
And then, All for One shows up.
And this time, All Mightâs true form is exposed to the public. His weakness. Now the world knows that All Might isnât invincible. Despite this, heâs still able to force his broken and exhausted body to beat All for One again, while using up the last of One for All, and leaving it up to Izuku.
Now heâs that quirkless boy who wants to help people again, only this time, he canât.
Now he canât be a hero, the one thing thatâs kept him going all these years. And people on the street who donât recognize him right away, criticize how he looks, which again, is out of his control. So he continues to hide himself in shame.
Gran Torino has told him heâs not being a proper mentor to Izuku, but the boy is already surpassing him with his schooling from other teachers. So, without heroing and mentoring, all Toshinori has left is being a teacher.Â
And unfortunately, Eraserhead has told him heâs also mediocre at that as well.
Then Izuku meets Sir Nighteye, and questions Toshinori about their relationship, while also questioning his own successor-ship.Â
Which leads to a very emotional scene of Toshinori telling Izuku exactly what happened all those years ago, as well as his death sentence that, oh by the way, is coming either this year or the next.
Toshinori is fairly emotionless while explaining this to the boy, I imagine heâs fairly disconnected with his own emotions by this point.
But seeing how upset Izuku was is enough to make him try and console the other that he wonât simply roll over and die, that heâll go down fighting.
And THEN, he gets word that Sir Nighteye is in grave condition and most likely wonât make it through the night. Even after their falling out, Toshinori goes to his friendâs side, and the resemblance is scary.
Now he can see why Nighteye looked into his future, to see if Toshi had any chance on living. Being put in this position, he can understand. You can even hear Toshinoriâs voice break (Japanese version) when he tells Sir that he needs to stay alive to allow Toshi to repent for his sins. But Nighteye canât stay. And when facing the man whoâs always been known for his smile, who canât do it anymore, Sir says to him: âSmile. Live on, Toshinori.â
But for what?
The most recent episodes have a relatively emotionless Toshinori.
Like in todayâs episode, the best he can give Izuku is a small smile, barely anything. He doesnât even emote when he catches Hatsumeâs stray baby.
He clearly still has the reflexes of a hero, but he canât physically be one anymore. His health is too fragile. *Manga spoilers ahead*
Then thereâs this scene with Aizawa.
He had long since accepted his own death, maybe even longed for it. But Izuku made him decide to try and live, even though heâs not sure how to anymore.
This poor man has been through Hell. And now he feels useless and helpless. Thank God he finally said something to Aizawa, but he needs more than just this, he needs to have a purpose again. I hope Aizawa and the others can help him find it again.

The irony of finding you asleep this time is not lost on him in the least. Heâs half-sure youâll wake at the sound of his landing, but you prove as heavy a sleeper as he.
What a place for a human to find themselves, he considers you mightâve slept-walked all the way across the bridge to return to somewhere you felt safe. Thatâs an odd thought, he acknowledges, very few feel safe that do not come from here. The otherness is off-putting, perhaps intentionally so.
But there is another option, he supposes, that no sleepwalking was required. You mightâve picked up your quilt and your feet all on your own and decided to come. He does not know what is worse.
Part of him, a very large part considers leaving you again. But you were able to observe him without him knowing for a while, at worst and he considers this opportunity to be a chance to repay it. He sit heavily in the grass, some distance from you and he watches as your chest rises and falls.
