Xeno's ultimate knight
im not the one who asked this but oh gods you are so much better than my chem material fr š need a teacher like you brou
Can you explain aromaticity in organic compounds? It is a fairly huge topic so it's completely understandable if you aren't up to the challenge.
(p.s, I love ur blog <333)
āNot up to the challengeāā Iāve reverse-engineered antibiotics from rocks. Explaining aromaticity is just an appetizer. š
Alright. Letās break it down before I spiral into orbital hybridization graphs and never return:
AromaticityĀ is a chemical property of certain cyclic (ring-shaped), planar (flat) molecules that results inĀ unusual stabilitydue to the delocalization of Ļ (pi) electrons.
For a molecule to be consideredĀ aromatic, it must satisfyĀ Hückelās Rule:
Be cyclic
Be planar
Have a continuous ring ofĀ p-orbitalsĀ (i.e., itās conjugated)
ContainĀ (4n + 2)Ā Ļ electrons (whereĀ nĀ is a whole number: 0, 1, 2, etc)
Why does that matter? Because when those Ļ electrons are delocalizedāspread evenly over the ringāthey stabilize the moleculeĀ way moreĀ than you'd expect based on normal bonding. Thatās why aromatic compounds donāt behave like your average alkenes.
Classic example:Ā Benzene (CāHā)
6 carbon atoms in a ring
Each contributes 1 Ļ electron ā 6 Ļ electrons
Follows Hückelās Rule (4n + 2 = 6, n = 1)
Super stable, flat, smells weird
If it had 4 or 8 Ļ electrons instead? Boom: not aromatic. PossiblyĀ antiaromaticĀ (less stable), orĀ nonaromaticĀ (no delocalization at all).
So yeah. Aromaticity isnāt about smell, itās aboutĀ stability through electron delocalization in a planar ring system.
Chemists spent centuries freaking out over why benzene wouldnāt react like it should. Turns out, electrons were just vibing in a resonance loop the whole time.
Thanks for the blog love, by the way. Iāll keep posting if you keep sending non-stupid questions. š
i just know senku was internally sweating seeing that gen wasn't called onto the ship yet that he had to check for spoilers
ok jk i know this was for ginro too but as i've mentioned before, the stark contrast in his reaction for ginro saying no vs gen saying no is so funny like
"yeah it's chill bro it's ur choice anyways the development team is needed too" š«¶š«¶š«¶
vs
"shut up and get on the ship with me mentalist"
like.... all of a sudden the development team isn't as important anymore im crying
a wonderful ao3 author note
cinematographers need to stop being so afraid of lighting. like i get it your movie is grim and serious, but i promise it would be even more grim and serious if i could actually see what was happening
i used to hear Deku when i saw GinrÅ but now i hear GinrÅ when i see Deku
Gen trying to be mischievous revealing another twisted plan, meanwhile Senku is on cloud 9 having not so innocent thought's šš
Sharing this here, too! Let's make it happen !!
And nothing bad ever happened.
