One thing I worry about in society is how autistic people seem to be more at risk for getting in trouble for things they didn’t even do all because of not understanding the situation in the first place

For example: I remember one time I was shopping at a supermarket, and after paying, a staff member walked up to me, and without explaining why, asked me if they could look inside my bag. I was only aware they suspected me of shoplifting (which I hadn’t) because of a previous post I’d read about another autistic in a similar situation. Imagine if an autistic person, unaware of the hidden context, declined to let them look inside the bag. They’d already be deemed as suspicious when in reality, they just didn’t want someone to look inside

Another time I was about to go to a university party organised by the university itself. I was carrying an empty Coca-Cola bottle ONLY because I was drinking one beforehand, and couldn’t find a bin. Without warning, a staff member grabbed my empty bottle and took it away. At first I thought they were just being helpful until I saw the stern look on their face, and then I was confused (only later did I realise they might have thought I would refill it with alcohol later on or something). When I was unable to get in due to not having enough money, I had a shutdown due to the noise and confusion, and was then screamed at to get out despite the fact I did nothing wrong

This is the kind of thing autistic people have to deal with. Society has to learn to understand that just because a person isn’t reacting the way you expect, and seems “suspicious”, doesn’t mean they are. There’s a high chance they’re an autistic person who may not be fully understanding of the situation at hand, especially when the other person isn’t explicit about what’s going on

Kinda fucked up that we all coo and sympathize with "former gifted kids" but never talk about the students who had to stay late after school or over the summer for remedial classes/clubs, who struggled to get above a C, who were given up on or punished. Who tried so hard to understand or just couldn't. Who were grouped with the "stupid kids" (a classmate called us that in remedial math btw)

Autistic kids and adhders who can't relate to their gifted peers and are constantly alienated by them. Kids who struggled in school due to dealing with a chronic or mental illness or physical/learning/developmental disability. Those of us who have had to drop out of highschool or college. Kids who worked so hard and wanted to be seen as smart, but never were. Who watched as their peers seem to fly by them in school, while they were left behind. Who were bullied and put down by those in the gifted and honors classes. Whose confidence was absolutely destroyed by education.

I love you all and I'm so sorry the school system failed you. I'm sorry you weren't properly accommodated and given the education you deserved. I'm sorry people put you down for something that they never had to fight for.

Can you explain aromaticity in organic compounds? It is a fairly huge topic so it's completely understandable if you aren't up to the challenge.

Alright. Let’s break it down before I spiral into orbital hybridization graphs and never return:

Aromaticity is a chemical property of certain cyclic (ring-shaped), planar (flat) molecules that results in unusual stabilitydue to the delocalization of π (pi) electrons.

For a molecule to be considered aromatic, it must satisfy Hückel’s Rule:

Be cyclic

Be planar

Have a continuous ring of p-orbitals (i.e., it’s conjugated)

Contain (4n + 2) π electrons (where n is a whole number: 0, 1, 2, etc)

Why does that matter? Because when those π electrons are delocalized—spread evenly over the ring—they stabilize the molecule way more than you'd expect based on normal bonding. That’s why aromatic compounds don’t behave like your average alkenes.

Classic example: Benzene (C₆H₆)

6 carbon atoms in a ring

Each contributes 1 π electron → 6 π electrons

Follows Hückel’s Rule (4n + 2 = 6, n = 1)

Super stable, flat, smells weird

If it had 4 or 8 π electrons instead? Boom: not aromatic. Possibly antiaromatic (less stable), or nonaromatic (no delocalization at all).

So yeah. Aromaticity isn’t about smell, it’s about stability through electron delocalization in a planar ring system.

Chemists spent centuries freaking out over why benzene wouldn’t react like it should. Turns out, electrons were just vibing in a resonance loop the whole time.

List of explanations for why Senku’s clubmates thought Yuzuriha would reject Taiju’s confession:

They simply did not know Yuzuriha at all and only perceived her as a pretty girl who was out of Taiju’s league. Most plausible, but also the most boring.

Yuzuriha was very subtle about her own feelings for Taiju and so no one but really close friends knew about her crush. Also pretty plausible, adds a bit of characterization, but not very interesting.

Yuzuriha has rejected boys “at full power before.” Slightly more interesting, implies Yuzuriha was popular enough to get asked out and felt strongly enough to reject them in an intense way. Perhaps these boys disparaged Taiju and Senku, or made fun of her interests?

Inagaki didn’t really think much of writing the boys betting Taiju would be rejected because that’s just how a lot of fictional background characters react to “dorky boy asking out cute girl who must be totally out of his league.” Dullest explanation ever, but we’ve all read something involving a romantic thread where the author is clearly just going through the classic tropes. Frankly Taiyuzu would be very boring as a ship to me if I did not immediately fall in love with their characters and their dynamic with Senku, and I kind of stumbled into that. Like, all we know about Yuzuriha for the first few chapters is that Taiju is madly in love with her enough to motivate him to stay awake for 3,719 years, and she made fun of him for the sparrow thing. If it weren’t for that bit (which seems to be early-installment-weirdness since she doesn’t really act like this again), then up until the hostage scene Yuzuriha could practically be replaced by a cute lamp. Hm. This kinda turned into a mini-rant about how easy it is for authors to not bother putting in the effort to write convincing romantic hooks because everyone can see the tropes. Oh well. Y’all know I love her.

The boys were surprised to hear Senku specifically betting on Taiju not getting rejected because they thought Yuzuriha was in love with him. Hilarious concept, I’m outlining a fic for it now.
