Day Ten - How I Wake Up In The Morning

Day Ten - How I Wake up in the morning

I feel not unlike a small boy, waking from a bad dream to find reality not much of an improvement. ~ John Byrne

I think I was probably born to hibernate; I find waking up to be the biggest challenge of each day, especially if I have nothing on my to-do list for that day. Usually I require the assistance of an alarm clock with several alarms set to ensure that I actually stay awake. Once I've been awakened by my alarm I have a minute or two in which to actually get up, if I don't - chances are I'll go back to sleep again until the next alarm wakes me.

I'm not adverse to getting up early - this morning (with help as usual from Amanda) I was up at 7.45 in order to go to a local market and for a previous job of mine I had to get up at 6.30 to get a train... which wasn't fun.

...anyways, that's today's topic roughly covered, more to come tomorrow!

Sounds delicious to me.

Sorry to ruin your strange little world but animals eat animals, this is the way of the world. Meat is not murder. When an animal has died for you - given up its chance of life so you can eat it and then you turn up your nose at its sacrifice - that is murder.

The willingness of either party in the exchange is a moot point because in the wild, do you think an antelope is in any way willing to let a lion/cheetah/leopard eat it? Do you really think that the plants you mercilessly eviscerate to put in your holier-than-thou salad particularly want to be shredded?

Okay, so we don't give the food we eat a fighting chance but I'm afraid that is just how things are and I really doubt it'll ever change, I certainly know what I'd rather eat given the choice.

But hey, the chances that you'll ever read this are slim and the chances that it'll in any way change your opinions are even slimmer, so for now I'll just say all the more for the rest of us.

Drug Rape Prevention: DrinkSavvy Color Changing Drinkware

Drug Rape Prevention: DrinkSavvy Color Changing Drinkware

The problem is that date rape drugs are odorless, colorless, and tasteless once they’re in your drink.  We all know not to leave our drinks unattended, but the reality is it’s impossible to keep an eye on your drink all night.  So what’s the solution?  With the help of Dr. John MacDonald, a professor of chemistry at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and with the help of Contract Researching Organizations, DrinkSavvy is developing material that will immediately change color to warn you if a drug is slipped into your drink.

image

Great!  But it doesn’t stop there.  Together, DrinkSavvy will have the funding necessary to fully develop the material and drinkware directly from this material, such as, Plastic Straws and Stirrers, Plastic Party Cups, and Glassware.

That means discrete, 100% effortless, and continuous drink monitoring throughout the night, because the same drinkware that you are drinking with…is also the color changing material that makes invisible drugs visible.

While DrinkSavvy’s initial goal is to perfect our design to make our products available online and free to select rape crisis centers, DrinkSavvy’s ultimate goal is to use the success of this campaign to convince bars, clubs, and colleges to make DrinkSavvy the new safety standard and eventually make drug-facilitated sexual assault a crime of the past.  So please, back DrinkSavvy to be a part of something that will change the world for the better.  Back DrinkSavvy to be a part of something that has never been done before, and back DrinkSavvy to prevent someone you care about from possibly being the victim of drug-facilitated sexual assault. Thank you all so much in advance, and remember, when you’re out drinking, drink smart, drink safe, DrinkSavvy.

when did you start playing minecraft?

October 2010 - back when Minecraft was only 10 euroes

how did you find out about minecraft?

Mostly through Owlet (a friend of mine) and after I watched a video he put up on youtube I knew I had to give it a go...

what was the first thing you built on singleplayer/multiplayer?

I built a castle on singleplayer - I've only recently starting playing smp and I don't tend to do so very often

what is your in game name/username in minecraft?

they call me darkora... *dramatic chords*

what was the biggest thing you ever built?

I'm currently in the process of building a huge trading post which will easily be the biggest thing I've ever built

what is your next project/creation?

I have no real idea... whatever strikes me next I guess...

what do you mainly build in minecraft? (for example: treehouses, minecart systems, etc.)

I couldn't say I build one thing more than any other, I guess if pressed I'd say bases, a variety of them...

which do you do that most: explore, kill mobs, or mine?

I build mostly really, though I do enjoy sperlunking trips... except when I run out of torches

last thing you built involving redstone?

I use redstone a lot, though I do tend to cheat because I use Ali4z's Wireless Redstone along with Feanorith's Redstone Advanced - last big thing I built with redstone was a gate system (several times) for my trading post

favourite ore and why?

I like diamonds the most - mainly because there's the whole adventure of trying to find them

least favourite ore and why?

hmm I suppose Gold is my least favourite ore, it doesn't seem to be anywhere near as useful as the others

do you often go to the nether (or aether if you have the aether mod)?

recently I've started going into the nether more and more - since Better Than Wolves gave Netherrack a host of uses, I've more reason to go there

what mods do you enjoy using?

Better Than Wolves is my favourite, though I tend to use an absolute ton - I think my current homebrew modpack involved something like 25 mods - I won't list them all here but if anyone wants to know they can drop me an ask

favourite texture pack?

I tend to switch through several - I like the stylings of the painterly pack but I also love Carlotta4th's Modified Portal textures - I plan to make my own at some point, but that may have to wait.

favourite mob and why?

Wolves, definitely would have to be Wolves

least favourite mob and why?

gorram creepers, they need to stop destroying my stuff

name some of your favourite minecraft blogs/websites

I only really use the minecraft wiki and the yogiverse along with the minecraft forums

who is your favourite minecraft commentator on youtube? why?

I'm not sure if they count as commentators but I follow the yogscast quite closely - I'm definitely a yognought though I also follow Etho

what are you looking forward to the most in the 1.8 update?

I suppose it would have to be the added depth to the game that notch puts into most updates, I'm glad to see the game expanding

what are your thoughts on minecraft being available on the xbox?

I think it should be good, not sure exactly how it'll work (and I daresay I won't buy it myself) but I'm glad that minecraft is getting the attention and expansion it deserves

sum up minecraft in a five-worded sentence.

"get excited and make shit"

a minecraft survey!

Day Twenty - Dinner

A rather random topic change, after the topics of previous days to suddenly depart to last night's dinner. Anyways, answering the question: my dinner last night was Spaghetti and Meatballs; was yummy though as usual there was too much of it :P

Day Two - Introductions

"I'd like to introduce a man with a lot of charm, talent, and wit. Unfortunately, he couldn't be here tonight, so instead . . ." ~Melvin Helitzer

Today's topic is introduction; how you introduce yourself to new people, unfortunately it's been a long time since I've had to introduce myself, perhaps that's a sign of how closed my social circle has really become so tbh I don't have a clue beyond the usual "I'm Nik, I'm not crazy, honest" - usually I'd only introduce myself after I'd been chatting to the person for a while and thus built up some kind of a rapport beforehand so it's less likely they'll be horrified by my terrible introduction and run a mile... or three.

So yeah, short post for today but hopefully I'll be able to make longer ones about some of the other subjects... that's the plan anyway.

Nik
