(i apologize for any formatting issues, im on mobile)

the finished drawing of the photo described below, with slightly more dramatic perspective and harsh, black and white shadows. details that were lost were redrawn with a white gel pen, and pale clouds were scribbled in the background

this took a few weeks of drawing on and off to finally finish, since the paper is i believe about 3 x 2 feet

halfway complete shading, done only in black and white. the light source is above and slightly behind the building
lineart of the drawing, with corrected perspective and intricate detailing
a sketch of the photo, though the perspective is skewed, especially on the pillars

i used a mechanical pencil for the sketch, which might have been the most time consuming part. in the sketch i messed up the perspective and proportion while trying to make it more dynamic, which i had to fix when i did the lineart (with tombow ink pens).

i did the shading in only a couple hours using greyscale alcohol markers. i didn't use the reference image for the shadows, because i wanted to be particular about the lighting

an image of the Canterbury Cathedral, a large, ornate building made of almost golden stone with large spires and intricate windows. the base is inlaid with many statues

the final piece is still a slightly different angle than the original photo (of the Canterbury Cathedral, found on Britannica), and while it was on purpose, i still need more practice with the execution

rendered version of the digital redraw of Merlin cradling Arthur in his lap after he died. Merlin is wearing his brown jacket and red hankerchief, and has brown hair. Arthur is wearing his armour, though i dont show the difference in plating vs chainmail in this piece. the yellow lighting comes from behind them, casting them mostly in shadow.
the non-rendered, flat color version of the piece described above.

vvvvv SPOILERS UNDER CUTOFF vvvvv

the original screenshot from BBC's Merlin that i referenced when drawing this piece.

merlin and arthur screenshot redraw

i know this show is older now, but his death still destroys me and i had to do something for it

i didn't do the chainmail texture; i might come back to it sometime, but for now im happy with it, especially since i just drew it on my phone

an alcohol marker drawing of a mortuary, with a realistic portrait of Will Graham from Hannibal in front. one of the body drawers is open on the bottom right, and you can see part of a clock on the far left above the door

mortuary

fanart of Will Graham from the Hannibal tv show. my prompt was mortuary, so that's the setting he's in. the background is drawn with alcohol markers, and Will is drawn with pencil on a separate paper that can be moved

a digital drawing of Shadow from the third Sonic movie. he's on his motorcycle, sort of skidding down the road at night. he's lit by fire on one side and by a neon pink sign on the other.

i binged all 3 Sonic movies the other weekend, and I'm absolutely obsessed, so i drew Shadow

ART PROGRESS:

greyscale drawing improvement from October 2023 to April 2024 (6 month difference)

a pencil drawing of a robed hand holding a skull, with a cartoony ghost coming out from its mouth
a pen and ink drawing of creatures and scenery from the video game Bloodborne. in the foreground is a man with many snakes bursting from his head, crouching in agony and surrounded by alienlike eggsacks. in the midground is a large tree with human figures within the bark, a gravestone, and more eggs. in the background are two massive headstones leaning onto eachother over a path, and within the shadow is another snakehead. behind everything is a large, ornate building, and the night sky

while the first drawing is in graphite and the second is with alcohol markers, they are both in greyscale and focus on fantasy subjects. i have more confidence to draw backgrounds in general, and more creative inspiration: the first is based on a stock photo of a person holding a skull, and the second is based on various creatures and scenery from the video game Bloodborne. i pieced it together using my own imagination, only using reference for the actual design of the snakeheads

as for the shading, i have a better understanding of depth, lighting direction, composition (especially background / midground / foreground), scale, and lineart. i took more time and added tons of details and textures, making the piece feel more realistic and natural

an exaggerated drawing of a clown or fool, with a large 3-pointed and multi-patterned hat, large crazy eyes, and an oversized mouth with a long tongue poking out
same drawing but without color, just hatching for shading

a fool! i used sharpie and tombow pen to line and ohuhu alcohol markers to color

Sans sitting on the ground, arms behind him propping him up, with one slipper falling off and his jacket open revealing his glowing blue soul
GIF of Sans walking to the side with a very low framerate

Sans sitting (image) and Sans walkcycle (gif, not laggy just low framerate)

the animation is very simple and was my first test of the Krita animation features! i dont animate much, because i dont have a lot of practice with it and im just not used to spending so much time on a piece. but lately i did a couple Undertale animations to try to get back into it and they were very fun!

also im super proud of the style i did for the drawing of him sitting. the lineart is chunky and solid, and the highlights overlap with it to give an almost painterly feel, like in the rib area

a few days later, I've embroidered the majority of the back panel. i still want to add things like shooting stars, more details on the luna moth, more stars behind the ferns, etc, but here's what I've gotten done:

a photo of the nearly finished back panel. the black ferns on the bottom are complete, and above them are a bunch of stars and planets made of colorful fabric and thread
a photo of the finished back panel attached to my vest with safety pins. the Luna moth has been embroidered on by the ferns with pale blue and green thread, and ive sewn on a patch under the collar of a moth and the phases of the moon

I've also sewn on a moth patch that my best friend gave me a while ago - I've finally found a place for it!

and I've turned one of the front pockets into a cute monster mouth, an idea that i got from a patch somebody showed on Pinterest. instead of just a patch, it's a functional pocket! the teeth didn't quite turn out how I'd hoped, but i can clean them up a bit later

a photo of one of the upper chest pockets on my vest. i've sewn on a forked tongue made of pink fabric, and some wonky white teeth. above the pocket, i embroidered a pair of blue, slitted eyes
a photo of the same pocket but opened. now you can see that the teeth are sewn onto the edge of the upper flap, and the tongue is sewn onto the edge of the lower pouch.

i might add more details to give it more of a body, and not just a mouth with disembodied eyes. if you have any ideas, please comment or leave them in the tags!

the latest things i've added are a panel on the inside of my vest under the collar, and some stars on the ends of the hood strings, both using the same blue flannel i used for the pockets.

a photo of the inside of my vest. on the upper, inner panel, right below the collar, i've added a panel of blue flannel fabric. i've seen many denim vests and jackets with a pattern in this spot, so i added my own
a photo of the vest's hood, detached. i've added a large star on the end of each of the hood strings, both made out of the same blue flannel fabric

i'll continue updating as i work on it!

for about a week now I've been working on a DIY vest. it's not a battle vest, but i am taking inspiration from some of the patch ideas and maybe adding spikes

here's my process so far:

(EDITED with image descriptions - thanks for the reminder in the tags!!)

photo of a pale blue denim vest in a bucket in a bathtub
photo of the vest now dyed dark grey

i dyed a pale blue vest with one full bottle of graphite synthetic dye. it's still sadly a little blue, but it's dark enough that it isn't super noticable, so I'll live. if you have any questions about the exact process, ill answer them in the comments!

photo of my hand in the vest's pockets to show how deep they are
photo of the vest's pockets from the inside to show to fabric i used - blue flannel
photo of an inside pocket i made for the vest. it's white fabric with words embroidered with black thread. i embroidered snippets from a post on Tumblr by turboennui. it reads "Laika's still up there. Not her body, sure, but her soul is. Up there the stars are a great big field. And look, she's running so fast - godamn, look at her go."

i then added two regular pockets after seam ripping the fake ones - why do they even put fake pockets on these - and two inner pockets using the shape of the upper pocket as a guide. one of them is embroidered with quotes from a post by turboennui on here about Laika, the first dog in space sent from Russia

photo of the inside of the vest where you can see the grey hood is attached to the inner collar by six black buttons

then i added a detachable hood taken from an old sweatshirt, which is attached to the vest via six buttons. i get anxious when i don't have a hood on my clothes, so if i don't wear this vest over a sweatshirt, i still have the option to have more comfort

digital drawing i did of my plan for the back panel of the vest. it shows a bunch of curling black ferns in the foreground, a large moth in/on them, and behind them all is a night sky full of colorful planets, stars, and meteors.
photo of the beginnings of my embroidery of the back panel - a single curling fern, sewn with black thread on black fabric

yesterday, i planned out and began embroidering the back panel. it will be a detachable piece of black fabric from an old button up shirt, connected only with safety pins so i don't have to commit to a theme and instead have multiple artworks to swap out. this one is a few black ferns and a pale blue moth (type undecided) atop a starry night sky background

if you guys have any ideas of stuff to add or embroider, or tips for making a denim vest in general, comments are greatly appreciated! ill post another update once the vest is finished

another Merlin drawing

the fully rendered version of my drawing of the screenshot describes below. i shaded and highlighted Merlin and Arthur, and their clothes - whereas the flat colors are just flat.

according to IbisPaint, this took me about 7 hours. i did it all on my phone, though i didnt sketch as much as I'd normally do, and instead used the reference as a guide. i exaggerated their proportions, simplified the armor, and created the colors and rendering entirely on my own to give my desired effect, not really following the lighting in the original picture

the flat colors of my drawing of the screenshot described below. the colors are vaguely like they are in the photo
a screenshot of the Merlin BBC TV show, showing Merlin helping Arthur with his armor at some sort of outdoor knight event, presumably
