In danish. #mantelmomento #danielmantel #laurieandthestoryof (Never leaves my head...) #primeiroproximopasso (Same goes for him) #udenfilter #coffeebreak #sleep #realities #deepinside #falling #unwell #day #sleepingaway #howastateofmindorsomediseasecanmakeyoualmostunabletogetthroughaday (Usual one-off hashtag) #prose #danish (sorry, again...) Then it happened again. Again-again-again... I don't know how this will make my writing better. Wrong: It does, I just don't know how or why. (Laurie and me and the book we read, and the writer of that book, are becoming more and more clear. Fiction or not.) Anyway, it happened: At this place, I had a dinner that couldn't make it past 100 DKK / 12 €... Including main course of beef (a lot!!) with salad and 'batatas fritas', bread, half bottle of vinho tinto, desert, coffee, and an (old!) brandy that for sure wasn't small... And the couple that has the place, were simply nice. And yes, I know those unbeliable prices partly are a result of the 'crisis'. BUT! It IS also a cultural thing: Here in Portugal you live your life so much more on café's and restaurants. It's as simple as that. You don't stay in your home; you get OUT! The streets are part of your home. And, besides a lot of other stuff, it makes people less isolated. More a part of the local community. And that can only be a good thing! Period! (Why I put this on Instagram, I don't know. The picture isn't even anything special. So...) #cheapdinner #lisbon #minhaanita #calcadadaestrela #culture #livinglife #communityfirst #portuguese #portugueseculture #society #azulejos #wayoflife #restaurante #anotherlife #lifestyle #dinner #abetterway #whyorhowthishasanythingtodowithmewritingthatnovelireallydontknowijustknowthattheportuguesewayoflifeisaninspiration (Usual one-off hashtag... And you keep learning; the journey never stops. Not without you. Not with you. Thx for that.
part of being an adult is living with regret and not allowing it to consume you. the older you get, the more mistakes you make, the more opportunities you missed, the more people you’ve let down. forgive yourself. don’t beat yourself up. you’re still learning: this is a journey.
It's a combination; quite difficult to make work: I certainly prefer those writers, that are able to describe a person with personality and as much 'details' as possible; even 'complications'... Written in 2, 3, 5 lines... A few master that skill, a (maybe) surprising example: Georges Simenon, most known for the many "Maigret"-crime stories... But try reading some of his 'real' / psychological novels... Masterly "painting" difficult figures with few words. Also, almost ofcourse, and also one of my overall favorite writers: Jess Walter. Especially in the masterpiece 'Beautiful Ruins'. He can do the same, with adding changes of the figures as the story developes. Masterly! There's several others, obviously, but these two... :-) And I should add, that I'm a writer, but thru the years have read quite a lot. :-) (Can't tag Jess Walter...?!?)
I have a question for you guys.
When reading a book, do you prefer detailed descriptions of characters or brief, vague descriptions? Reblog and put in the tags which you prefer, and whether you’re a reader, artist, writer, or whatever else.
Thanks!
Dengang engang. Skitse med fejl: Fremtid indsat.. Han havde absolut ingen idé om hvor de var. Jo, efter over et døgn uafbrudt raslende i et tog gennem Spanien, var de endt i Lissabon, Portugal.
There is an amazing skillful portuguese-guitar player, that has a view on the world not so far from mine. Some might say it is a rather pessimistic way of looking at things. If 'things' are how Europe acts within itself and with the world in general. And remember, the world is so much more than Europe. Which we have a tendency to forget, unless the subject is refugees... How sad! Anyway, we can agree on one thing, (among of lot others), that it might be too late for our generation. But we can only pray for the next, seemingly to be just a bit above profit and multinational earnings and expansions... Oh, and btw, he is a gifted by the Gods (who's or which ever) with his playing that guitar... Makes me cry. Seriously. That good. And also makes me so much more eager to continue my (judged by myself, admitted), final and all-orbiting (-can you even say that?) novel... Laurie is impatiently waiting! #fadonamorgadinha #fado #morgadinha #guitar #guitargod #alfama #lisbon #amaliarodrigues #generations #laurieandthestoryof (Somehow connected to...) #legacy #worldheritage #novel #prose #saudade #meandmystory #hopeisjusttofinishthosefewthingsthatyoureallywanttoandthenbesatisfiednotlessifyouareabletofinishyourlifeinaplacewhereguitarplayerslikethisoneplaysforfreeeverynight (Usual one-off hashtag... You must learn to let go. Release the stress. You were never in control anyway.

... And you still think you are. In control. Even when letting go...
Good art doing good...
And that IS all of us! 👍
Shoutout to the bookish people who;
Can’t afford special editions.
Don’t have fancy bookshelves with Christmas lights around them.
Are male, older, or poc.
Can’t afford a monthly box, like YA or Owlcrate.
Don’t even have a room full of books, or shelves worth, maybe you just have a handful stacked somewhere.
Prefer eReaders.
Might only have worn down, or mass market paperbacks, because they’re cheapest.
Because regardless, we all love the same thing. We’re all here for the same thing. Stories.
