This Might Be A Good Explanation For Why Klaus So Pointlessly Sacrificed Both Elijah And Himself.

This might be a good explanation for why Klaus so pointlessly sacrificed both Elijah and himself.

I think another thing that plays into it is Klaus's promise to Hayley that he would do ANYTHING to save their daughter, and now that there's a chance for him to fulfill it, he takes it. They could have killed Hollow through so many other ways, but no, this is the one Klaus settled on cause it was his only way out of his own misery and to see through his vow to avenge Hayley.

( Reminds me of how in Castlevania we find out that Dracula's whole destroy the world campaign is just a grandscale suicide act after the killing of his beloved wife.)

But of course it goes without saying that if it actually came to sacrificing himself for Hope he would gladly do it, especially if it's a way to keep both his daughter and the mother of his child safe.

All in all, though, as I have said so many times before to him, Hope and Hayley are a static pair. Both of them or not at all, it's non-negotiable to him. (An example is when he exiles Hayley and binds her in her wolf form, we see mainly Freya or even Elijah care for Hope, and while Klaus is present, he isn't as involved)

What's for sure is that he loves Hope and Hayley the most and to extreme lengths, which are at times overwhelming.

Klaus did NOT die for hope

Klaus was stuck in a torturous loop of self loathing and self destruction

He had lost everything he had, was completely estranged from the only people he actually felt safe with, people that made him feel less lonely (his biggest fear)

Hayley's death sent him over the edge and he felt responsible for what happened, he had admitted to staying away from her for the simple fact he felt like he was failing her and hope, and fear he'll only hurt them more and he only realized staying away did more harm than good far too late

Had it been about hope he would've either 1) not have killed Elijah because that was pointless, he left hope an orphan and Elijah was the only perfect person to look after her and Klaus was more than okay with killing him proving he no longer really meant shit to him after his indirect role in killing Hayley (he was ready to die for him every other day in the previous seasons)

And 2) since he gave no fucks about Elijah he could've let him die alone and stay with his daughter who he admitted clearly needed him

Instead he hit two birds with one stone, he gave Elijah what he thought he deserved and he died to simply get out of the responsibility of actually caring for his daughter, he knew he had nothing to offer her especially without Hayley there to help him so he thought the only thing he might give her is his death

Till his very last breath he was running away from facing his fear of turning into Mikael and failing as a father

And Hayley who was the biggest part of parenthood to him was lost so he had ultimately nothing to stay for

When do you think Klaus first realized he was in love with Hayley?

That's a tough question, really cause I think there were several moments through all seasons where you can tell that he was clearly and irrevicably in love with her but then they both go back to hostility so it's impossible to maintain consistency of it but only when we look at the words. The action, each and everyone is the greatest proof that he loved her since the first season.

He had initial attraction towards her when they had a one night stand. But they deepen their bonding, especially when he finds out she's like him, a cast away who learned to fight . And the intimacy blooms until Elijah Mikaelson yours truly, ruins everything and makes Klaus reserved and cold again but by the nothing true scene Klaus's feelings have definitely deepened to what we call love and it's most clearly visible after the witches kill Hayley and kidnap Hope but Klaus stays there holding Hayley's lifeless body with the most pained expression anyone can ever have instead of chasing after the witches. (So yeah he loves her for sure by then)

In season 2, we see his love less openly and frequently as the number of obstacles have multiplied in the form of previously Elijah, now Jackson. But it's visible when he threatens to deposit Jackson's head on a pike if he betrays Hayley, also when he has the most resigned and defeated look possible on his face during Jackson and Hayley's wedding and lastly when he curses her pack into wolf forms instead of slaughtering them even though in Klaus's eyes taking Hope away is like the highest of crimes simply because no matter how much he loathes the action, he can't bear to see Hayley dead.

Season 3 though? Klaus might as well be yelling I LOVE YOU HAYLEY every five minutes. Verbally humiliates him, physically hits him, Klaus's can't even hit back. Sees Hayley hug hope after so long and is literally oozing guilt, like hello since when does Klaus feel guilty for punishing someone. Apologizes to her, saying he was wrong, tell her he trusts her for the second time(HAS NEVER SAID IT EVEN ONCE TO ANY OTHER CHARACTER) , literally thanks her for not abandoning him even though he gave her a thousand reasons and now the chefs kiss KNEELS FOR HER, to save her , and we are talking about the most proud being in entire tvdu.

Counts on her to save his family and him and raise Hope and fully relinquishes his life, the lives of his siblings to her when they are all on the verge of death.

I could talk about this for ages but here's the gist, Klaus began to love her when she stood up against Mikael for him, his father who made Hayley hear every horrible profanity he could attach to Klaus and yet she looks him in the eye and says Mikael said nothing true with so much sincerety that Klaus is at a loss of words. And he spends the next episodes and season trying to stifle the feeling but by season 3 it was basically a public declaration. Sorry for not giving you one specific moment cause they all kind of contribute invaluably. (Thanks a ton for asking this question, one of the best ones)

WHO HERE THINKS THAT WE SHOULD'VE GOTTEN MORE ANNABETH AND POSEIDON MOMENTS? You know how Athena disapproves of and threatened Percy? Well………….DO THAT WITH POSEIDON AND ANNABETH! Let them meet. Let Annabeth squirm. Let Poseidon smile, but let it not quite reach his suddenly cold green eyes. Let him size her up, and let her be found wanting. LET HIM SILENTLY THREATEN HER NOT TO HIT PERCY AGAIN! Let him disapprove of Annabeth's nickname for him! Let Percy defend it, defend Annabeth from Poseidon! Let Poseidon tell Percy that if things don't work out (in a way that he implies that he hopes it doesn't work out) that he can hook up with a sea nymph or naiad or something! I just feel like this was SUCH a missed opportunity. To show that Poseidon loves Percy and thinks that he can do better than a plain daughter of Athena! (At least Poseidon thinks so).

Can someone write this, please? I would, but I already have something else going on.

I wish Rick would do this in the show.

@lady-menrva, how do you like this one?

After Son of Neptune and except for the Tartarus bit, Percy personality change was so radical and absolutely out of character for him, and the Fandom doesn't talk about it nearly enough. It's literally the character assassination of the main character. How do people not talk about it?

Is...Rick Seriously Implying Percy 'fatal Flaw Is His Loyalty To Friends' Jackson Would...literally Prefer
Is...Rick Seriously Implying Percy 'fatal Flaw Is His Loyalty To Friends' Jackson Would...literally Prefer

Is...Rick seriously implying Percy 'fatal flaw is his loyalty to friends' Jackson would...literally prefer being captured and put in chains and taken to be sacrificed to Gaea...just so he and Annabeth can be together still??? Keep in mind, Percy KNOWS Hedge would have been sold to Cyclops as food (so one friend would be killed) and that Chrysaor would have sold Hazel and Piper to Circe (depending if this is just Rick forgetting Circe got defeated in Olympians or Chrysaor is unaware of that) and given he had no use for Jason (and likely Leo and Frank), its likely he would have killed three more of Percy's friends. And therefore, you think Percy would be happy his friends are safe from that shit, given his fatal flaw.

But...no, Mark Of Athena decides he suddenly would have preferred all that happening just so he and Annabeth won't be apart, meaning Rick wrote Percy forgetting the danger his friends would be in in that situation in favor of Percabeth...which in itself is weird as uh, I know he's got faith he and Annabeth can figure it out, but like, he really wishing he and Annabeth would get into that danger with Gaea??? For someone whose fatal flaw is loyalty to his friends, it really did not pop up here.

You do not need to remind me how precious my cargo is. (Hayley and Hope)

I miss her too, more than you know.

I wish for Hope to grow up to be as strong and beautiful a woman as her mother.

"I was looking for your mother?" "Mom's missing." "I am on my way."

I am going out of my mind here, look at what they have done to Hayley.

My brother is dead to me. He let Hayley die.

Saying I love you without saying I love you:

I do trust you, more than you know.

I'm beginning to think we're a lot alike, you and I.

I've got you, love. I've got you.

I knew you were tough, I knew you were cunning, but I never knew you were a queen.

That's no way to treat a lady.

"You said you saw my father. What did he say to you?" Nothing true.

I want to believe in you.

Klaus it's too dangerous, let me come with you.

Believe it or not, Hayley, I would actually like you to be here.

It's not your fault, Klaus. I know that you fought for us.

I'm talking about Hayley. For some reason she cares about you. Enough to risk her own life. Do right by her.

"You know, when I left last, I thought for sure you'd hate Klaus forever." Oh, I will, but even when you hate him... you still love him.

You're all right, love. You're all right.

Klaus isn't doing it out of the kindness of his heart. He is doing it for you.

We fight for each other.

We keep going, together.

Being kind doesn't make you weak, Klaus.

I've given you a thousand reasons to abandon me, but you haven't...yet. Thank you.

I'm not giving up on you, Klaus.

I don't know what to do. And I really wish that you were here to tell me.

"You said you would protect me." and I will.

You will always have a home here.

I saw how twisted it really is. And maybe I can relate.

What could I possibly say to ease her pain?

You're Hayley, Klaus' wife.

Hayley's off limits.

She is exquisite.

See. There's your queen. Powerful, fearless... and unlike me, merciful. These people need to show you more respect.

My mother is wretched. She will target you in order to thwart me. And I can't very well save Elijah if I'm busy saving you. Can I?

I can't save her if they don't fear me.

The entire Fandom needs to listen to this:

Percy having a thing for Rachel was so absolutely deserved like he should have been head over heels for her. Here's why?

First meeting? Runs her through with Riptide, and where anyone would have spent the whole time yelling and arguing, Rachel quickly gauged the situation, helped Percy hide, deviated the skeletons from their orignal path all at the same time.

Percy is so awed and he should be and Rick Riordan doesn't do justice to the whole thing.

It ends on Percy saying he owes her one, almost an indication that they would meet again.

Yet Percy is terrified of running into Rachel again because he isn't sure if he could answer all her questions, most definitely because he doesn't want to drag her into the whole thing. So much so that when he sees her at Goode, he calls her "my redheaded nightmare " .

Not only has he thought of her since they last met, but he may or may not have dreamed about her, not to mention he remembered her full name after listening just once.

When he does meet her again she yet again warns him about monsters hence saving both of them.

The most important thing is Percy, who all his life has been judged blamed ridiculed, and mocked is for the very first time understood so instantaneously by Rachel. She who has been put in mortal danger every single time she meets him doesn't blame him, doesn't judge him for it, and openly takes the blame for the burning school. Even Annabeth's first response to seeing the smoke is blaming Percy despite being around him and knowing well enough for 3 years; she chooses to blame him as if she doesn't know that it's never Percy's fault. Yet Rachel, someone who he has met only twice and that too for meager few minutes, understands him and his situation so well.

All the people in the Fandom ask yourself this: Will Percy Jackson not for all that he is be absolutely head over heels and in awe of someone like that?

He can barely give her any answers at the moment, but she agrees to a death quest to help him save the world.

Throws a literal hairbrush at the Titan King and stands her ground.

Stays by him and comforts him through his depressive thoughts about dying due to the prophecy.

Falls in love with him despite knowing he has little time left.

Does her best to help him while still keeping his mind off from spiraling into dark thoughts.

Rides a literal helicopter mid-apocalypse to get to him just to warn him of the dangers?

Percy would be so absolutely over the moon in love with Rachel, were Uncle Rick not so fixated on Percabeth agenda.

The last bit is for toxic Annabeth stans:

Rachel is a genius too.

She is ambidextrous and can draw with both hands and legs; probably has exceptional memory, and her composure and quick thinking are on par with Percy himself.

I hate bringing this to looks, but I will if I get to shut up toxic fans. Annabeth is certainly beautiful, and her grey eyes are quite unique, but Rachel is the most underrated and definitely the most beautiful out of all Percy Jackson females.

The woman literally won genetic lottery with red hair and green eyes, and the only reason Uncle Rick doesn't rave about her beauty is to not make Annabeth insecure.

Also, for those overly concerned about the Oracle celibacy thing, I will address that in my next post and how it's not a problem at all. (Now posted link is here:

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THIS BOOK-

Yeah, hi, it's me again with my live reactions to the Wottg book preview. Kill me. Just end my suffering please, 'cause I cant anymore. BECAUSE WDYM ANNABETH WANTS TO THROW A PARTY AT HECATE'S HOUSE!?!?!?!?!? WTF ??? WHY!?

Like do I even have to say how OOC this is!? Especially for ANNABETH! Percy just told her, while pretty scarred, that he has a quest to house-sit Hecate's mansion. And THE FIRST REACTION TO THAT IS "LET'S THROW A PARTY" They KNOW how bad of an idea this is! Like- sure let's throw a party at the house of a goddess without her knowledge or permission! That definitely won't cause any issues! Definitely won't cause her curse us!

Like Jesus Christ Annabeth, you're supposed to be the SMART ONE!? ATLEAST USE SOME BASIC COMMON SENSE.

Grover was also super OOC, but honestly I expected that from the summary. Rick ofc also had another case of "I can't remember my own stuff!" with Grover and the "most satyrs depend on the mist to hide their goat legs" line. Because wtf were Grover's fake feet in TLT then Rick???

I- I genuinly don't think this book will be very good. Like from just the preview there were already 2 cases of Rick not remembering his own stuff, unfunny humor and jokes and 2/3 of the main characters just being unbelievably ooc. Praying that there will be SOME sort of explanation for this frankly braindead behavior on Annabeth's side.

you all misunderstood percy’s reaction to nico saying he used to have a crush on percy soooo bad. “percy was offended he wasn’t nico’s type” this “percy is so oblivious” that HOW have we all forgotten that nico literally wanted that man DEAD in the first series. and allowed percy to walk around with kidnapppng amnesia for most of the second. WHY would percy think he was nico’s type AT ALL why ON EARTH would he NOT be oblivious to nico having a crush on him???? he is certain that nico wants him homeless on the street at LEAST

It's really simple. The boon for one can be a curse for another is the phrase that comes to mind when Jason and Percy are involved. All the things that Jason deems as boons are akin to a curse for Percy. Things Jason wants and Percy does not want are denied to the former and thrust upon the latter. Destiny is inherently unjust to both of them.

Their lives are quite literally inverse and parallel of each other simultaneously.

Percy was initially hated and ostracized for what he was, while Jason was honored and revered.

Jason became the image everyone forced on him in hopes of finally earning genuine love, respect, and approval but was instead seen as doing what was already expected of him and was rewarded with even more expectations.

Percy who broke all preconceived and hateful notions about him by breaking records and creating miracles that the demigod world did not know existed and cemented himself as someone who would never be forgotten. He paid for all that in blood and pain, but at least he was rewarded with the love and loyalty of his peers for it. [Jason would call this a gift, a reward while Percy considers the price of love, respect, and loyalty of his peers was unjust and should have been given freely]

Percy's name is a gift and a prayer. It's the earnest symbol of Sally's need to keep her son alive and safe. Percy may be a symbol of a god's mistake once up on a time; but he is not a regret. No, he is a blessing in disguise.

Jason's name is a curse and a sacrifice. It is also a symbol of a god's mistake and, more importantly, a god's regret. He himself is a tool, a peace offering, and a sacrifice disguised as a gift. He can never be anything more in the eyes of his makers.

Percy is a symbol of love for both Poseidon and Sally. Jason was a symbol of status to Beryl and a bargaining chip to Jupiter against Hera. Poseidon would go to war with Zeus for Percy's sake while Jupiter would see Jason dead for his own agendas. And he did.

Jason desperately wants to be a legend that was woven around him while Percy wants to escape the legend he became and created.

Even their definitions of freedom are inverted.

To Jason, his freedom is being able to help the gods and his camp in whatever way he can and not be judged for it. His freedom is in the genuine love and respect of his peers and the approval of his father.

To Percy, his freedom is being left alone, without the watchful eye of gods on him, being able to do what he wants, whenever he wants. He cares not for earning the approval of any gods, instead he is the one that judges them to be worthy or unworthy of his respect.

Jason wants to be a leader while Percy is doomed to be one.

But by the end of it Percy is now the one saddled with responsibilities and expectations that he does not want ,drowning and chafing under the weight of such restraints that go against his nature while Jason's death despite it's unjustness has finally freed him from his shackles.

Jason is free, and Percy is not. Jason sees his death as punishment while Percy would think of his own death as freedom even though Jason's death is the actual freedom, while Percy's death would be the true punishment, after all he was so close to escaping his fate.

Their dynamic was perhaps the one with the most potential in the entire series, followed by Percy and Luke. The parallels, the contradictions, the mirrored philosophy, and mindset. All that golden potential and Rick squanders it on a superficial rivalry and poorly fleshed character motivations.

Jason who everyone believed would be great and Percy who knew that everyone except his mom believed he wouldn't amount to anything unless he proved himself. Percy who chose to make the Great Prophecy about him so Nico wouldn't have to bear more burdens after losing his sister. Jason who chose to confront Caligula alone so Piper would live after the oracle told him he or Piper would die.

Percy who believed he would die at 16. Jason actually dying at 16.

Imagine if Percy and Jason actually had the chance to have a genuine conversation about how being sons of The Big 3 hurt them in different but similar ways bc of what was expected of them and bc of how they were treated by people. Percy and Jason knowing that they can't really show weakness or insecurity or ever say that they were scared bc everyone at their respective camps were counting on their leadership.

Percy and Jason who had their own distinct journeys to be the heroes they became and both journeys were valid and important but did Jason and Percy ever believe for a second that they were important not for their parentage and achievements but because of who they are and actively chose to be

Percy is a dude from the category of screaming "what the hell did you do!" and solve all the problems in 5 minutes. Everyone would have been dead a long time ago if it wasn't for him.

I have mixed opinions on this. On one hand, Percy is the type of person to wait about for the problem to disappear by itself just so he doesn't have to deal with it. Cause even before he found out he was a demigod, he was 100% done with everyone's shit.

But I do agree that he would be able to solve all problems because through so many books we have seen that no matter how much prior planning Annabeth or the Seven or anyone else does, Percy always does his own thing at the end. And it works out mostly for the better than whatever initial situation anyone else had in mind because Percy thinks almost too well on his feet. Every time.

But Percy has such low self esteem that he sees the fact that he has to make so many improvisations more so as his plans never working as less so as an exceptional ability to adapt. Especially when at times he can easily sense that some titan/giant is too powerful so he maneuvers around a direct fight and ends up defeating them by pure strategy and still ends up thinking of himself as "Oh shit I seriously had no plans. I am so reckless and stupid".

His whole character arc could have been evolving into a more confident and self assured but still the usual sarcastic laid back version of himself who no longer doubts his own abilities and becomes the great leader he showed many signs of being. But no, Rick had to ruin it all because, for some reason, 10+ books later and almost all the characters are still the same, just decorated with even more trauma. Rick being Rick, and instead of showing characters working out their traumas and insecurities, he just slaps a relationship on them, and lo and behold, all is better again somehow.

I am kind of disappointed that we never got to see Percy or any other members of the Seven do any solo missions(aside from Annabeth in MoA) . She almost had the very quintessential realization about how she needs others and how her hubris will ruin everything if she doesn't keep it in check only for whatever she was doing in the later parts House of Hades and all of Chalice of the Gods to take away even that little bit of character development.

And cause solo missions working out perfectly well for Percy while most other demigods struggle a bit to make it work might finally make him realize that his plans don't suck and he is actually a really really good strategist and somehow an even better manipulator. (Though more on that and his observational skills later).

Or make characters like Frank and Leo whose unique abilities and perspectives on combat could have been shown off more, making them all become more self-reliant.

And even so we could finally get proper idea of limits of certain characters like Piper (cause charmspeak isn't going to get her everywhere) or Hazel (we so need more scenes of her surprising demigods and monsters with not only her unique jewel abilities and her magic.) Plus Nico's combat limits, Jason's stamina limits (no I am not considering his death part of canon, you can't tell me it's true, I refuse to stand by it), Thalia's character development as well as her honing her powers and combat abilities more.

So yeah, we really should have gotten a few solo missions instead of so many short stories and all. And a bit more cross-over highlighting the power levels between the Norse, Greek, Roman, and Egyptian demigods/magicians/Valhalla residents/Valkyrie and so on.

To sum it up, tons of missed opportunities by Riordan and even more tragic and terrible progression of previously great characters who just needed a well-made character arc or even some favoritism. (I am looking at Grover and Rachel, who both could have done so so much if Rick had only realized the awesome potential they had).

I have said it many times that it's #percy jackson supremacy. So hell yes everyone would be dead without him, and he is arguably the best protagonist out of any other fantasy action book series. All hail Percy Jackson, the master of sass, and the most beloved but somehow still the most misinterpreted character in the fandom. Really liked this ask, would love more of these regarding Percy or any other characters.

It was Annabeth's own quest, too. She is just jealous that she has to do stuff like punch Percy and tell him to ask her for a dance, stalk him all the way to his home to get to know stuff about him and find a quest to spend time with him, while Rachel just meets him twice and immediately gets his trust.

She gives him her number and Percy memorizes it, accepts her painting of him as a gift and shows initiative in spending time with her and going on a date with her, while Annabeth's wondering how Percy could be so blind and hurtful to her and her advances. The said advances include her being aggressive with him, passive-aggressive with him, demeaning his intelligence; constantly defending his enemy and not hearing his side of it, and immediately blaming him for things he had no control over.

Like Rachel who has met Percy for barely two minutes knows Percy couldn’t have done anything about being attacked at school and offers to cover for him while Annabeth immediately gets angry at him and puts the blame on him when she knows the situation could not have been instigated by Percy. This is one of the many examples.

I know Percabeth is considered a gold standard among ships, but I will never be able to see it.

Annabeth: *calls Percy Impossible For Not Being In The Mood To Empathise With A Guy Who's Tried To Kill

Annabeth: *calls Percy impossible for not being in the mood to empathise with a guy who's tried to kill him multiple times the last time being five minutes ago and then immediately insults the girl who's risking her life to help them just because she's territorial over the guy she refuses to confess her feelings to*
